Locked away in the Titan's Tower's evidence room was a was a worthless piece of time travel equipment… or so the Titans thought.

One specific piece of a future criminal's suit turned out to be an earth shatteringly powerful tool. They couldn't risk it falling into the wrong hands no matter what, so they removed key parts of the technology, making the device inoperable and useless, and therefore, theoretically harmless. However, to completely destroy such amazing machinery didn't sit well with some of the Titans. After a lengthy debate however, it was decided to be kept locked away in the secure evidence room, where it stayed safe and untouched for twelve long years.

Until one day it vanished.

The Tower's security system made it clear that it was stolen, but from whom remains unknown. The power of time travel was not to be taken lightly, and despite the piece being defective, the Titans knew anything was possible.

This was a very serious matter, and the Titans reacted as such, but with no indication of who could have stolen the piece, they had no leads. Every second they didn't have the piece was one more second the enemy had to learn how to activate it.

Instead of waiting for time to slip away from them, Richard decided on something desperate, and took control over the situation. Despite the idea of the plan being simple, the process was far from that. They were going to build their own form of time travel, travel back to just before they first put the piece away, and destroy it themselves the way they wish they first did.

Once he understood Richard was serious, Victor immediately contacted S.T.A.R Labs, informing them of the situation, to which they eager accepted. He worked closely with some of the most trusted scientists, and after months of hard work and many sleepless nights, they had a breakthrough.

The machine wasn't transportable, in fact, it was so big you couldn't even move it, but it was able to create a wormhole into the past, and that was all they needed.

The scientists wanted to do more testing, to make sure that this was safe. This was the first form of time travel with a machine that was built from their time, which left so many unknow risks.

But Richard knew they couldn't wait any longer. He originally was going to be the one to go, that was the plan from the beginning, but that plan changed once they saw the size of the wormhole. They might have created a wormhole to the past, but a five-inch sized hole was not taking anyone anywhere.

The scientist insisted if they had more time, they could make it bigger. But being that time was not on their side, Richard came up with a plan, and that plan involved Garfield.

Garfield was not thrilled about the plan. He wasn't qualified, and they didn't have time to properly train him. Going to the future was exciting, and was less easy to screw up. Going to the past on the other hand, was very problematic, as his leader explained to him thoroughly. One wrong thing could alter their time drastically, and that was a lot of pressure for him.

Currently, in the S.T.A.R Labs building, in a secure room, Garfield nervously stood in front of a large, noisy, highly advanced, machine.

"Let's go over the plan again." Richard said sternly.

Garfield let out a heavy sigh. "Go through the wormhole, hopefully into the past before we tampered with the device. Sneak into the tower, find the device, use it to get back to my original time, then we destroy it completely."

"And be careful not to do any drastic changes or the present could be significantly altered." Richard reminded.

"Yes, Dick, I saw the Butterfly effect." Garfield retorted.

"And what is rule number one?" Victor asked.

Garfield sighed again. "Do not have any contact whatsoever with anyone from the past, especially yourself."

Victor nodded his head before turning to the machine. He plugged in the specific date into the computer before turning back to his friend.

"Now remember, this might be the right year, but we don't know where this is going to take you. You might end up in China as far as we know."

"Super." Garfield drawled.

"Are you ready?" Richard asked.

"Nope." Garfield remarked with a nervous chuckle.

Despite his answer, Richard signaled for the scientists to start up the machine. They flipped dales and pulled down levers as the machine got drastically louder, before the four electrical robs lit up and began to form a small wormhole in the center.

Garfield took a deep breath, hopping on his feet and hyping himself up before morphing into a hummingbird, and flying through the hole.

Traveling through the wormhole was like walking through a doorway. The distance seemed insignificant for the amount of time you traveled.

Once Garfield existed on the other side, he morphed back into his human form. He quickly looked down at himself, making sure he was fully intact from the travel. He was both their only hope and the test dummy for this, and wasn't sure what kind of side-effects he might get from this.

After deeming himself whole and intact, he glanced around at his surroundings. He was in the middle of a grassy field, with no indication of where he was. He groaned heavily before morphing into a hawk and taking to the sky, looking for any identifying landmarks. He flew for what seemed like hours before he finally reaching a town.

While remaining undetected from bystanders, he was able to track down a newspaper. He quickly searched for the date, and was relieved to discover he was in the right year. The time machine worked, he just needed to figure out where he was.

He looked further before letting out a loud groan.

"Washington State." He whined. "That's like 20 hours from Jump City!" He shook his head, taking a deep breath. "No, it's fine, it's fine. It could have been farther. I'm okay." He quickly told himself. "I'll just fly 1,000 miles. No big deal."

He let out an audible groan before stretching his arms, morphing back into a bird, and taking to the skies once more.

He flew for hours, quickly growing tired, no matter how many rests he took. He just wanted to get this stupid device and go back home. After countless hours of flying, Jump City was a sight for sore eyes, and Titan's Tower was even more so.

Garfield watched the tower from afar, perched on a tree. He couldn't just walk up to the front door; he knew security was too tight for that. He needed to find a way in that wouldn't alert the secretly system.

Luckily, he spotted his line of entry. Kori had her bedroom window open a crack. Wasting no time, he flew up to the window, morphed into a large spider, and crawled into the room. He quickly skirred across her floor, carefully and quietly slipping by a young Starfire, brushing her hair in the mirror.

He climbed up the wall and into the air vent, where he knew he wouldn't be seen. He morphed into a mouse and ran down the vents, only occasionally peeking out the vent to see where he was in the tower.

Once he arrived at the evidence room, he crawled out of the vent before morphing back to his original form. He stood up from his crouched position, quickly glancing around the room, relived that they hadn't installed the security cameras yet. Without the risk of getting caught on camera, he was able walk around freely.

He rushed to the evidence cases, quickly searching for the case with the time travel device, but in the middle of his searching, he heard a noise and watched as the doors to the room suddenly swooshed open. Thinking fast, he morphed back into a spider and hid at the base of one the cases.

Beast Boy walked into the room, whistling to himself as he casually walked to one of the empty evidence slots. He tossed Control Freak's remote into the box and securely locked it up. He then turned around, before curiously looking at the ground.

"Man, do we need to spray for bugs again?" He said grabbing a magazine from the corner table and rolling it up. "Jeez, that's a big one too." He said swinging his arm.

Before Beast Boy could swing and hit the spider, Garfield morphed back, stopping him in his tracks.

"Wait!" He said, holding up his hands in protest.

Beast Boy dropped the magazine, staring up at himself with wide eyes, before screaming.
