It was a cold morning on Cheyenne Indian Reservation, and there lived a little 5 year old named Nevaeh Clark. She is the daughter of Cheyenne Tribal Police Chief Mathias Clark. She got up excited. It's her first day in Kindergarten. Mathias also bought a house (picture above), because his apartment isn't big enough for him and Nevaeh. It's on a big piece of land, and it's nice. Nevaeh came out dressed. Mathias is already in his police uniform.
"Ready for your first day?" Mathias said.
"I am daddy!" Nevaeh said.
Nevaeh's mom up and left with out a trace, so it's up to Mathias to take on both roles. He got her eggo waffles toasted, and put syrup on them, and she was eating them.
"Daddy?" Nevaeh said.
"Yeah baby?" Mathias said.
"Where's mama?" Nevaeh said.
"I don't know my baby." Mathias said. "She's just gone. Better eat up. We don't want to be late now do we?"
Nevaeh ate her breakfast, and grabbed her backpack and walked out the door with Mathias behind. He locked up his house, and they got into his police SUV. He backed up a little, and turned around. Nevaeh is buckled in, and they're off. Mathias is on the phone.
"Hey Fox?" Mathias said.
"Hey Mathias we have Michael Eagle." Fox said.
"Put him in the cell." Mathias said. "I have to take Nevaeh to school."
"You got yourself a kindergarten." Fox said.
"I do." Mathias said.
"Ok. See you when you get here." Fox said. "Tell Nevaeh have fun in kindergarten."
"Will do." Mathias said.
Mathias hangs up and turns on Lotus st.
"Fox said have fun in kindergarten." Mathias said.
"Tell him I said I will thank you." Nevaeh said.
They pulled up in the parking lot of Red Water Elementary School, and parked. They got out, and walked into school. Ms. Long is her teacher. Nevaeh looks at Mathias as he knelt down to her height.
"I want you to do good." Mathias smiled. "I want you to behave yourself. And have a good time. I'll be here when school is over."
"Bye daddy." Nevaeh said.
"Bye baby." Mathias said.
A woman was looking at Mathias.
"I have never thought you'd be a father." Said the woman.
"Neither did I, Millie. But I am and I love it." Mathias said.
"Who's her mother?" Millie asked.
"Anna Lolita." Mathias said.
"She's my cousin." Millie said. "Where is she?"
"I honestly don't know." Mathias said. "She just up and left."
"I'm so sorry." Millie said.
"It's ok." Mathias said. "Sometimes it's meant to be."
"You're right." Millie said. "But all that matters is she has an amazing father."
"Thank you. I have work so I got to go." Mathias said.
That was the most emotional conversation he has ever had. He walked to his vehicle and drove off.
Nevaeh is at her desk, and Ms. Long had them draw a picture of their family. Nevaeh was drawing a pic of her and Mathias. Nevaeh finished coloring.
"Can you share your drawing to the class?" Ms. Long said.
Nevaeh nodded, and got in from of the class.
"This picture is a drawing of me and my daddy. He's the only one who's raising me. My mama just up and left. I don't know why she did but it doesn't matter. All I need is my daddy."
They all clapped and shared their pictures of their family. School ended and Mathias kept his promise. Nevaeh hugged Mathias and they went home. They walked into their home, and she put her backpack on the hook, and she put her shoes on the shoe rack. It started to rain.
"Why don't you play in your room while I cook dinner?" Mathias said.
Nevaeh went into her room, and she got her toys out, and started to play tea party with her stuffed animals. Meanwhile, Mathias was chopping up some hamburger meat, and got sauce and spaghetti noodles out. He hears Nevaeh talk to her toys.
"Mr. Peabody be nice to Ms. June." Nevaeh said.
Mathias came around the corner, and watched her play. He then got the sauce once it was cooked and the grease was removed. The noodles are in, and so he put the saucey meat on a simmer. He Stirred the pasta, and it's almost done. He went to Nevaeh's room and knock.
"Mr. Peabody." Nevaeh said. "What if daddy meets a woman and forgets about me?"
Mathias heart tore hearing that.
"Baby. I'm not gonna forget about you." Mathias said. "You are my number 1. Let's go eat dinner."
Nevaeh followed and they ate dinner. It was time for bed, and Nevaeh was in her pajamas. She got a story, and Mathias read until she fell asleep. Mathias locked up the house and fell asleep himself.
