Chapter 2: The New Pack
It had been a week since Alexander learned of his acceptance to U.A. When he arrived at the door in his new school uniform, his thoughts were filled with excitement. Not only was he about to learn from the very best, but he had also earned the top score on the entrance exam.
This wasn't to say that he didn't feel nervous. The wolf figured that because he'd gotten the highest score, he would probably need to give a speech or something. That thought alone terrified him because public speaking was something he hated with a passion.
Alexander could talk to one or two people fairly easily and had no trouble joining a small group in conversation or hanging out at a party, but crowds were another matter. The thought of everyone staring at him as he talked shook him to his core.
Still, he was going to be a hero and heroes often made public speeches and talked to news crews. So if he was going to be a hero, this was a hurdle he had to overcome.
With this in mind, the white furred canine steeled himself and entered the halls of the greatest hero school in all of Japan.
"Class 1A… class 1A," Alexander murmured to himself. "Oh, here it is."
He went to open the door, but before he could he heard a loud crass coming from inside.
"What the-!" the wolf barked as he jumped back.
He reached for the door again and opened it slowly, carefully peering inside as to not be noticed. What he saw was two boys arguing and the rest of the class either talking, ignoring each other, or showing off their quirks.
"Huh, guess it's just a normal class," Alexander said. "For a second, I thought it was gonna be full of crazy people."
As the wolf started opening the door, he heard a gasp coming from below him. He looked down and saw a boy with purple balls in his hair looking up at him in terror.
"Um… hi?" Alexander said awkwardly.
"Mo-mo-mo-mo-mo, MONSTER!" the boy yelled as he shut the door before running into the classroom.
"THERE'S A MONSTER!"
"A monster?!" the students shouted as they stood from their desks.
"A monster… me?" Alexander thought as he pointed to himself. "I know I'm no beauty but-"
The door suddenly shot open, startling the white furred carnivore and causing him to jump as his tail tucked between his legs.
"Whoa, it's you!" a familiar looking yellow-haired boy said with a big smile. "You made it to this class too?"
Alexander smiled as his tail started wagging and his right ear flickered. "I know you, you were one of the guys I met during the exam!"
"Sure am! Name's Kaminari! Sorry I couldn't properly introduce myself before."
The boy turned his head towards the other students. "HEY GUYS! That dude I was telling you about is in our class!"
Kaminari walked over to Alexander and threw his arm around the wolf's shoulder, walking him into the classroom. The yellow headed boy then pushed the large canine to the front of the class before introducing him to the others.
"This is the awesome wolf that helped me out during the exam!" he said cheerfully.
"Um… hi, it's nice to meet everyone," Alexander said awkwardly.
"Hey Alexander, over here!" a voice called out.
The wolf looked in the direction of the voice and saw Midoriya waving to him.
"Izuku!" Alexander barked excitedly, his tail wagging with joy. "Looks like you made it too."
"Yea, looks like it," the green haired boy said with a laugh.
"Wow, now we have a wolf in our class too, ribbit," a girl sitting on the far right said.
"Indeed," a boy with a crow's head said with a nod.
After greeting his friend, Alexander looked for a place to sit. He saw an empty seat next to a stoic looking kid with his arms crossed and made his way over. He was amazed to see that his body was mostly animal as well. Unlike Alexander however, this boy was a bat.
The white wolf took note of his features. First off, rather than having a flat face and nose like most bats, his was more akin to a canine's. He was covered from head to toe in black fur and had crimson colored eyes. His sclera were the normal white and he also had two long white fangs hanging out of either side of his muzzle. Finally, his school uniform was made to resemble a poncho so that it wouldn't get in the way of his large wings.
The bat looked a little scary, but then again so did Alexander. The wolf was glad to see someone who was similar to him. So much so that his tail started wagging from the thought alone. It made the canine want to be friends with the bat boy.
"Hey there, is it ok if I sit here?" Alexander asked.
The bat boy looked at him from the corner of his eye and shrugged. "Free country."
"Heh, sure is," Alexander said with a smile, his tail wagging happily.
"I'm Alexander, a pleasure," The wolf boy introduced himself as he extended his hand for a shake.
"Seteth," the black furred carnivore replied, not even acknowledging the canine's hand.
"You there!" a familiar voice said sternly.
Alexander looked up and was met with the blue haired boy from the entrance exam.
"Oh, it's you," the white furred carnivore said as he glared at the boy, his voice containing a growl.
The boy adjusted his glasses and spoke. "Yes, I expected that you would act apprehensive towards me and it is for that reason why I must apologize to you."
Alexander's eyes widened. "You want to apologize… to me?"
The boy nodded. "Yes, I do. What you said during the exam was correct. I acted shamefully in scolding you for no good reason and for interrupting Present Mic. I actually wanted to apologize to you much sooner, but since we were put in different test blocks, I wasn't able to."
"Ah, but where are my manners? My name is Tenya Iida and I look forward to seeing you perform."
"Um, thanks," the wolf answered.
Iida nodded to him and returned to his sheet.
"Friend of yours?" Seteth asked, still keeping his stoic demeanor.
"Not really. Just someone I got off on the wrong foot with," Alexander explained. "Honestly, I wasn't expecting him to apologize like that. Good to know he isn't as bad as I thought he was."
Seteth closed his eyes and shrugged. "I guess so."
"UHG, WILL YOU SHUT UP ALREADY!" a loud, angry voice shouted from the other side of the room.
The two looked to their left and much to Alexander's disbelief and annoyance, sitting on the other side of the room was Bakugou.
"As if the bird brain and the frog chick wasn't bad enough, now we've got a freaken mutt and flying rat as well! I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SCHOOL, NOT A FREAKEN PETTING ZOO!" the boy roared.
As Bakugou continued to berate them, Alexander looked around and saw the other two students the boy was complaining about sitting a seat away from them. The crow headed boy glared at Bakugou who didn't seem to notice before returning his gaze to the front of the class. The frog girl, on the other hand, looked like she wasn't paying attention at all.
Of the two, the girl was the one who caught the wolf's attention the most. Unlike him and Seteh, she was human. Her quirk seemed to only give her frog-like traits such as slightly bigger eyes, a bigger mouth, and webbed hands.
She was also sitting how a frog would and talked a little funny, but other than that she appeared mostly human, the exact opposite of himself.
The girl turned her head and saw Alexander looking at her. Rather than saying something, she just waved at him before introducing herself as Asui. Alexander waved back and introduced himself as well, giving her a friendly smile. She then waved to Seteth who pretended not to notice.
Bakugou, who was getting even angrier from being ignored, was about to yell again when someone suddenly appeared behind the teacher's desk, startling everyone.
It was a man with black hair and dark circles under his eyes. He was wrapped up in a yellow sleeping bag like a cocoon and had the demeanor of someone who just climbed out of their own grave.
"Alright problem children, that's enough," he said with disinterest. "I was hoping you'd all stop talking on your own, but clearly you're too energetic for that. Seems I'll have to fix that. Anyway, I'm Shota Aizawa and I'll be your homeroom teacher."
The class looked at the man in confusion. They found it hard to believe that someone who looked like a homeless person was their teacher. The tense atmosphere was shattered however when Izuku suddenly stood up with sparkles in his eyes.
"Y-You're him!" the green haired boy said as he trembled with excitement. "You're the pro hero Eraser-Head! The hero who's captured some of the most powerful villains ever!"
Alexander's eyes widened in surprise. Once again, he was in the presence of another hero who didn't seem to fit the part at all. It made him begin to question just what constituted a hero in this country. Especially when he considered that someone like Bakugo was accepted.
Once again, it had nothing to do with the man's looks, but rather how he presented himself. He thought heroes were supposed to be friendly and encouraging. But this man? He looked like he didn't even want to be here, let alone teach the class.
Before the white wolf could get lost in his head, Aizawa had Izuku sit down in a slightly annoyed voice before telling everyone to come up and introduce themselves. As well as explain their quirks before laying back down.
The crow-headed boy went up first and told the class his name was Tokoyami. He explained that his quirk was called Dark Shadow and that it allowed him to manifest a sentient shadow from his body to fight for him. He also explained that since it was sentient, it had a will of its own and can act freely without him.
Alexander was intrigued and made a mental note to talk to Tokoyami later.
Next up was a girl with pink skin, pink hair, and yellow antennae. She introduced herself as Mina and explained that her quirk was called Acid.
The white wolf made a few notes about her ability as she continued talking about it and understood that she was basically like a slug. This made her both interesting and dangerous as such a quirk could hurt people if she wasn't careful.
He also noticed that she had the same kind of super rare eyes that he did, something that made him happy. Having something like that in common could be a great ice breaker for a conversation and maybe even a new friendship. This thought alone made Alexander's tail wag like crazy.
The rest of the class continued on like that for a while with each student talking about themselves. There was Uraraka, a girl who could control gravity, Momo, who could create things out of thin air, Shouto, who had ice powers as well as fire abilities, Jirou, who utilized sound vibrations, Mineta, the boy with purple balls on his head and who called Alexander a monster, and so on.
The quirks and students all seemed normal for the most part, but there were some who the wolf boy found more than a little weird.
"Alright, thank you for sharing," Mr. Aizawa said in an unenthusiastic tone. "Next up is Alexander Talbain."
"Hi, my name is Alexander and uh… it's nice to be here," the wolf boy said nervously as he stood up. "My quirk is called Nordic Wolf. Obviously, I'm a wolf and so I get all the benefits that come with that."
"Stuff like heightened senses. Hearing, smelling, tasting, things like that. I also have what I call a spirit sense which is a little complicated to explain."
"I have enhanced physical traits such as strength, speed, and agility and have been training these for a long time. Um… oh, I should mention that I have a second quirk as well," he said as calmly as he could.
Everyone's eyes widened, it was almost unheard of to have two quirks. Even Seteth, who didn't have any interest in his classmates, was intrigued.
Aizawa, who was still laying on the floor, stood up and eyed the wolf.
"What is your second quirk and how does it work?" he asked.
"It's called Undine. It's basically water manipulation, but there's a little more to it. Just like with my spirit sense, it's too complicated to fully explain," Alexander answered.
Aizawa narrowed his eyes before nodding to the young canine. He could tell that he was making Alexander nervous and decided to let him be for now.
After the wolf returned to his seat, the teacher called Seteth to come up for his turn, taking off his sleeping bag in the process.
The bat shrugged his shoulders before walking up to the front.
"My name is Seteth and my quirk is Nosferatu," he said in a disinterested tone. "I can fly, use echo-location and can basically do whatever a vampire bat can. I also have some wind and blood based abilities. That's it."
Aizawa was a bit intrigued, but decided to let it go for now. He sent Seteth back to his seat and spoke.
"Alright problem children, you've officially met your classmates. Now, I want all of you to change into your P.E uniforms and meet me outside," the teacher said in a disinterested voice.
"Um, Mr. Aizawa sir, what about orientation?" Uraraka asked.
"Orientation is unnecessary and a complete waste of time," Aizawa answered. "I have the authority to excuse you from it and since I deem it useless, we're gonna skip it. Now, go and get dressed."
Aizawa left the room, leaving his students completely confused. Once they recovered, everyone left for the change rooms to get ready, wondering what it was that their new teacher had in store.
