The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Kiki & Shuichi Go to College!

"Are you sure you don't need us to come with you, Kiki?" Kyoko asked fretfully as the family gathered outside the manor.

"Yeah, we don't mind coming to help you unpack." Makoto agreed before Kiki rolled her eyes.

"Mom, Dad, I'm gonna be fine, okay? I've just got a single suitcase and my backpack with the stuff I'm bringing with me. Besides, Shuichi are leaving together from the train station, remember? We can help each other unpack."

Kyoko sighed and reluctantly nodded. "Y-You're right. I just…can't believe this day is already here…"

"Mom, don't get all teary-eyed like that. I'm still coming back for vacations and stuff; it's not like I'm completely moving out. Besides, you still have the other kids to dote on while I'm away."

Makoto smiled and rested a comforting hand on his wife's shoulder. "We're all really happy that you're taking the next step in your life, Kiki, but as parents, it's still hard to see one of our kids leave the nest, no matter how old they are or how many other children we have that are still kids."

Kiki nodded understandingly as she hugged each of her parents. "I know…and I'm gonna miss you guys too…just try not to worry about me too much, okay?"

As Makoto and Kyoko nodded, Kiki knelt in front of her three siblings, the eldest of whom was holding Hogo's leash. "Alright, Moku, you're the eldest in the house now. So promise me you'll take care of Hogo while I'm gone, okay? I can't take him with me to school, so I'm counting on you to make sure he doesn't miss me too much."

"Hai, Onee-chan." Mokubo nodded solemnly before Kiki playfully ruffled his hair.

With a bark, Hogo ran up to Kiki and started licking her face. "Alright, Hogo, I'm gonna miss you too." Kiki giggled. "Down, boy! That tickles!"

Once Hogo relented, Kiki briefly petted his head, causing him to whine. She then turned to the twins and told them, "Koto, Kiri, I'm gonna miss you guys…oof!"

"We'll miss you too, Kiki!" They cried as they tackled her into a hug.

Kiki giggled as she returned the embrace, giving her siblings one last hug. Once she released them, she stood up and waved at them.

"Alright, I'll give you guys a call once I'm all set up in my dorm. See ya later!"

"Bye!" The Naegi family waved back, watching as Kiki walked down the driveway on the next step of her journey.

"Alright, my boy, you have everything you need?" Minato asked as he and Sara gathered with Shuichi in the driveway.

Shuichi smiled, nodding. "Yeah, I should have everything I need. And if I need something else, I'm just a train ride away."

A teary-eyed Sara drew him into a hug. "Your uncle and I will miss you, Shuichi."

Shuichi warmly returned the hug, telling her "I'll miss you guys too, and I promise, I'll be back during the holidays."

As they released each other, Sara smiled warmly and wiped her eyes. "I can't wait to hear all about your adventures at college. You have fun with Kiki, alright?" Her lips curved into a teasing smirk as she joked "Just not too much fun."

Feeling his cheeks flush pink, Shuichi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Aunt Sara…"

"Sara, leave the boy…no, young man be." Minato smiled and rested a hand on his nephew's shoulder. "Shuichi, I know you'll do great things at college. Study hard, but relax and try to have fun as well. A good detective's mind is one of balance."

Shuichi nodded. "Don't worry, I will, Uncle." Lugging his suitcase in his hands, Shuichi smiled and told them "Alright, I should get going; don't want to miss our train."

"Yes, it's not good to keep a lady waiting." Sara agreed. Shuichi ignored the tease before Sara finished "Goodbye, Shuichi. We'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too!" Shuichi waved.

With a grunt, he pulled at his luggage, wheeling it behind him as he walked down the driveway on the next step of his journey.

"Hey! Shuichi!" Kiki waved as she ran up to him.

Shuichi smiled and waved as she approached. "Kiki, it's good to see you."

"You too, Shuichi. Did I keep you waiting long?"

Shuichi shook his head and reassured her "No, I haven't been waiting long. Actually, the train just got here." Shuichi gestured to the train waiting for them on the tracks. "Why don't we find out seats before it gets crowded."

"Good idea." Kiki nodded before she followed him inside the train.

The two of them quickly found a pair of empty seats and sat down, letting their luggage rest between their legs. "Well, we might be here for a little bit. Might as well get comfortable."

Kiki nodded, smiling at him. "So, what have you been up to since graduation?"

"So…this is where we're going to college…" Kiki mused as they walked through the grounds of their new school. "It looks…not all that different from Hope's Peak."

Shuichi nodded as he glanced around at the various buildings that loosely populated the otherwise open space. "It does feel a little empty, though." Shuichi pointed out as his lips tugged into a frown. "I would have expected to see more people. I know that school hasn't started yet, but I thought at least a few students would be moving in by now."

"Well…maybe we're the first ones this term." Kiki suggested. "Someone's gotta be first, right?"

Shuichi nodded hesitantly. "Yeah, I'm probably just overthinking things. I'm sure once we actually find look inside one of the buildings, we'll find somebody."

As they forged ahead, Shuichi's lips tugged worriedly, feeling the seed of dread plant in his heart.

"Man, where is everybody?" Kiki pondered as they wandered the halls of a class building. As they passed by each classroom, they glanced inside, only to find them completely undisturbed. "Man, this whole place is one big ghost town."

Dread blossomed in Shuichi's heart as he turned his nervous head towards his friend and former classmate. "Kiki, something's wrong. I've never seen any school this deserted, even during vacations."

Kiki sighed and nodded in reluctant agreement as she too her phone out of her backpack. "Yeah, you're right. I'm gonna call Mom and see what she th…"

*SLAM*

Their eyes widened as they turned around, watching as multiple iron doors slammed down from the ceiling. "Wha the…what's going on?!"

"I don't know, but we gotta get out of here, now!" Shuichi grabbed her wrist and pulled her along.

Kiki yelped as her cell phone fell out of her hands, the panicked girl hurrying to keep up with Shuichi as more iron doors slammed behind them. Their luggage lay forgotten between two of the iron doors as they ran for their lives.

*SLAM SLAM SLAM*

"Shuichi, why are those iron doors trying to trap us?" Kiki nearly screamed, her eyes darting around as she ignored the burning in her legs.

"I don't know why, but I think this whole thing was a trap!" Shuichi shouted as they rounded a corner just in time to avoid the next iron door.

"But why?! Who would want to trap us here?! What's the point?!"

"We'll figure that out later. Right now, we need to keep on running until we get out of here."

Kiki nodded, shuddering as the duo continued to run, the slamming persistently echoing in their ears. "Look!" Kiki pointed to a pair of double doors as she exclaimed "Maybe that's our way out!"

"It's worth a shot, let's go!"

The two of them dashed to the double doors, throwing them open and running into an equally deserted gymnasium. Their hearts sank as they realized the gymnasium had no exit.

"Oh no…quickly, let's go back!" Shuichi exclaimed as they ran back to the entrance. "Maybe we can find another way…"

Their eyes widened as they fruitlessly pulled on the doors. "No, no!" Kiki cried as she pulled and pushed on the handles, only for them to stubbornly stay in place.

"They must have been magnetically sealed or something when we entered the gym." Shuichi deduced as his face turned white as a sheet. "We're locked in."

"No…no!" Kiki shook her head vehemently in denial as she slammed her fists against the door. "OPEN UP! LET US OUT!"

"Kiki, it's no use; they're sealed shut!" Shuichi cried as he pulled her away from the door, fists still swinging. Once she calmed down, albeit still hyperventilating, Shuichi let her go and suggested "Let's investigate this room. Maybe there's another way out that we're just not see-"

*HISS*

At that very moment, a greyish gas poured out from the vents, covering the gym in a light, steamy fog. Kiki and Shuichi quickly covered their mouths as they coughed, but to no avail. The gas had already entered their lungs and was starting to make them feel woozy.

"Ki-Ki-Kiki…" Shuichi wheezed, closing his eyes as he fell face-first onto the floor.

"Shuichi!" Kiki cried in between coughs as she stumbled over to him, the gas causing her vision to blur. "Shuichi…wake up…please…wake…up…"

Kiki's knees buckled, causing her to fall on her belly as she started to lose her grip on reality. Her ears picked up a brief clicking sound, causing her to wearily look up. The doors opened, revealing two familiar robots as they waddled in.

"M…Momo…Mono…kumas…"

As the world went black and Kiki lost consciousness, the Monokumas' eyes glowed crimson red as they cackled.

"Nyohohohohoho!"
