Chapter Twelve

Good Deeds

The Citadel Temple was run differently than the Temple on Odessa. First was that they were no Younglings within the walls nor Padawans. Most of the Jedi that were present were either Knights or Masters who were stationed there for a diplomatic mission or another. They were most of the Jedi who delt with the politics of the Citadel Council as some of them were even working with Citadel Security or C-Sec as they were mostly known as to keep the people safe.

The Master in charge of the Temple was a Drell by the name of Kokri. His robes were mostly black and red which matched the pattern that were upon his skin. The had dark eyes and he his hands were hidden beneath his sleeves as he met the two of them within his room. He had both of his hands in front of him as he stared at them, a light smile upon his reddish lips.

"Thank you for coming so swiftly Knight Amell," he spoke with a light nod, "And this is your Padawan yes?"

"She is," Solana said with a light bow, "Her name is Ellana Lavellan."

Ellana bowed as well.

"It is great to meet you as well Master," she said.

"As am I Padawan," Kokri told her with a slight nod.

"As for what I summoned you," Master Kokri continued looking at them both, "It is because of a noble family from Antiva."

"Antiva?" Solana repeated a light frown.

Ellana frowned lightly trying to remember what she had learned about Antiva in her lesson. It was a system in the Antican Traverse which was rumored to be quite a small system. It had been ruled by a royal family much like many systems in the galaxy and one of their planets was quite well to make a fortune and trading as most of the family there was well in the trading business.

"One of the major trade planets in the entire galaxy," Master Kokri said, "The Montilyets family has been visiting the Citadel lately for a meeting with the Council there. Now they are returning, they've requested aid from the Jedi for something they haven't really been forthcoming with."

Solana frowned lightly.

"Why would they need Jedi help if they aren't going to be forth coming about it?" she asked frowning.

"I don't know," Master Kokri said, "I have done some investigating on my own but didn't really find anything that would indicate the need to have Jedi present, however, given their wealth I won't put it past them not to have encountered pirates in their travels."

"That would make sense," Solana answered, "If they are pirates involved, it could be some of the known ones from the Terminus System…even so, their guards should have been enough for pirates."

Ellana frowned to herself.

"Maybe they're in trouble and don't have a way to ask for help?" she spoke out.

Both of the older Jedi looked down at her. There was surprise within Solana's gaze at her words and Master Kokri tilted his head lightly.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Ellana feel herself flush lightly at the sudden attention.

"Well," she said, "You said that they were here with family right? It could be that the family itself was threatened. I have read about Antiva before and it isn't beyond reasons to think that one of the families to threaten another. They have been conflicts like that in their history."

Master Kokri let out a soft hum.

"Your Padawan is not wrong…it could be an internal matter."

Solana let out a soft hum.

"If we get involved, we might draw the Jedi into an internal scandal," she said, "How long will the Montilyets will be staying at the Citadel?"

"Till the end of the week," Master Kokri answered her.

Solana seems to be thinking for a few moments.

"Tell them to expect me and my Padawan tomorrow," she said.

Master Kokri nodded at her seemingly relieved that she had accepted the mission. After bowing to the Master, the two left the room together. Ellana glanced up at her master, confusion within her features.

"Are we accepting the mission?" she asked.

"We are," Solana answered, "And I will impart it on you Ellana, that you must be on your best behavior when we meet with the Montilyets. If what I feel from the Force is right, others might react to our presence and not in a good way."

Ellana frowned, reaching for the Force and a gasp escaped her lips. The Force felt strange almost like it was twisted upon itself.

"Why does the Force feel…twisted?" she said surprised.

Solana gave her a look.

"You sense it as well?"

Ellana nodded.

"It's a warning," Solana answered her, "Thought for who…I cannot say. We need to meditate on this and maybe the answer will reveal itself to us."

Ellana nodded at her.

Maybe meditation will clear out the Force.

The next day, Ellana followed her Master through a nice area within the Citadel called the Presidium. It was filled with many peoples moving about thought the two of them did receive glances from the others that were there as they realized what Solana and she was. Her Master did tell her to keep her hood on, to keep their faces hidden from the general populace as they would be only recognized as two Jedi nothing more…nothing less.

The twisted feeling from the Force still remained, despite the meditation they had done the previous day and they still didn't have any insight on what could be causing it. Ellana was still nervous, knowing that they would be facing danger within this mission. She never had to do something like that before and there is a chance she felt that she will be using her lightsaber in this mission.

It was drilled within her lessons that using a lightsaber should only be used for defense, never to attack, the same way that a Jedi should use the Force. It was one of the reasons why she trained a lot at her defensive skills and became appreciative of her Master's training and learning lightsaber combat from her. Using a lightsaber should be the last resort when all else fail.

And Ellana had taken that to heart, given that she was caring by nature.

"We're here," her Master told her.

Ellana refocused as they had reached a building. All of the buildings on the Citadel were similar in outward appearance…even the Temple here. A metallic gray with blue lining the windows which were light up from the inside even during the day cycle of the space station.

What drew her attention were the aliens standing at the entrance. They were dressed in blue uniforms and the both of them were Turians. They were very few Turians within the Jedi Order, as most of the Order were humans, Drell and even Salarians, Quarians but Turians were rare as rare as Asari could be…thought she did know of one Asari on the Council and Solana's former Master.

The two Turians at the door didn't stop but, Ellana could feel their gaze upon them as they entered within the entrance of the building the Montilyets were staying in. Considering the level of decors and expensive taste that was around, Ellana considers that only people that were wealthy could even stay in places like this.

The two stopped at the desk where an Asari was seating behind.

"Yes?" she asked, a soft polite tone.

"We are expected by the Montilyets," Solana spoke out.

The Asari glanced at the datapad in front of her for a few moments, browsing it before her eyes widened lightly.

"Oh…right," she said, "He told me that they were Jedi coming. They're on the fortieth floor in one of the suit, room 4033."

Solana gave her a soft 'thank you' before walking toward the elevator with Ellana following. When they were in the elevator, and having it move upward toward where they needed to go, Ellana let out a soft breath, using the exercises that she learned to center herself.

"Nervous?" her Master inquired.

Ellana glanced at her.

"I'll be fine Master," she answered her.

Solana gave her a light nod. When the elevator door opened, the two Jedi left and find a few men in the hallway. One of them turned toward their appearance and Ellana find herself tensing lightly. With her cloak completely covering her form, her hand moved toward where her lightsaber was.

"You're the Jedi that Lord Montilyet is waiting for?" he asked, in a blunt tone.

The man who spoke was dressed in a suit. He had honeyed skin which was lined with age upon his features which were set in a scowl. His eyes were of similar color leaning more on the honeybrown than normal as dark violet hair fell upon his shoulder. He was also massive with his muscle visible from the clothing he was wearing, the men around him were dressed similarly and if Ellana had to guess, they were bodyguards.

Odd…she thought.

Solana removed her hood, prompting her to do the same.

"I am," she answered calmly.

Ellana noticed the man's stare at her direction, something twisting upon his expression. She could feel something within the Force coming from him, protective instinct and a light anger. A strange combination to be feeling…

"I'll take you to him," the man answered, "Miguel, you take command and have the others in positions."

One of the men, one who had a beard looking much younger than the others gave a light nod before starting to direct the others. The man indicated them to follow as they went through a double door and into a lavish room.

It was beautifully decorated with a red-carpet floor decorating the entrance as they followed through the room and into a large open area. Ellana glanced around herself finding another hallway leading away from where they were going and she saw a young woman a little older than she was looking at them as they passed by, and interested look upon her features.

Ellana only had a glimpse of mocha skin and dark caramel eyes glinting up lightly as they met her own before she moved onward and into an open area of the room. A man was seating there upon one of the chairs looking over something in the datapad in front of him and he looked up at their entrance quickly standing up.

"The Jedi my lord," the bodyguard said indicating them.

"Thank you, Antonio" Lord Montilyet said.

The man simply gave a nod and left the room. Ellana now had the moment to observe the man in front of them. His skin was much lighter than the other men in front of them. He had thick dark hair upon his hair, well combed and taken care of thought she could see gray at his temple. He had warm brown eyes and a beard that covered most of his jawline. Dressed in soft Antivan fashion the man indicated them to seat on the couch across him.

"I'm grateful you were able to come Master Jedi," he said and his relief could be felt within the Force.

"My name is Solana Amell," her Master said, "And this is my Padawan Ellana Lavellan. Master Kokri had told us that you requested our presence but haven't been forthcoming about it."

The man nodded, joining his hands upon his lap.

"Have you heard about the House of Repose?" he asked.

Solana narrowed her eyes lightly.

"I have heard rumors," she said, "I have crossed path with an Antivan Crow years ago. I have some knowledge of it."

There was surprise upon Lord Montilyet from her Master's words.

"What's the House of Repose?" Ellana asked confusion in her tone.

"They're assassins," Solana explained to her.

Ellana's eyes widened in shock at the words.

"They are targeting you?" Her Master said looking at the man in front of her, "Do you have an idea who hired them?"

The man sighed.

"My family had a long feud with another called the Du Paraquettes," he said, "As you well known, Antiva is the heart of the trade within the galaxy as many systems depend on the food we export to eat and grow and once my family had been part of that. There was a scandal that happened and because of it, we have lost the right to be part of the trade."

The man looked up at them.

"We have managed to do well despite that but with the Du Paraquettes line being extinct for the past 100 years, I had started to rebuilt our trading once more however, doing so seems to have created a contract on my life…and it seems that the Du Paraquettes created this contract so that if I tried to do bring the Montilyet back into trading, they are to eliminate the one who does so."

Solana frowned.

"If the Du Paraquettes have been extinct for over a century…wouldn't the contract be void?" she asked.

The man chuckled, shaking his head lightly.

"A contract is a contract," he said, "The only way that it could be void if my family was also extinct. In Antiva, Assassin guilds take their contract as a code of honor and a way of life. As long as the target still lives, it won't matter if the one who placed it is long dead. They will keep hunting until they accomplish their mission."
