~~a/n; I watched the new Encanto recently (like- 3 times now- LMAO I'M SORRY IT'S JUST- IT'S SO GOOD! TwT THE MUSIC AND SONGS, THE CULTURE, THE DIVERSE AND IN-DEPTH CHARACTERS, THE MORALS AND THE WAY THIS MOVIE HANDLES THE EXPECTATIONS OF FAMILIES, MENTAL HEALTH AND SELF WORTH- THE WAY IT PARALLELS EVEN KFP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE GENERAL FLUID ANIMATION, THE ARTISTIC INFLUENCE, THE SCENERY, THE SOUNDTRACK- ... okay- I'm rambling now- PFF- sorry ; w ;), and, if you couldn't tell- I'm currently hyperfixating on the movie. I'm actually surprised that out of all the one-shot ideas I could have made, I decided to make the first one on this account based on Encanto- and a few days after valentine's day no less-
I mean, can you blame me? sorry if this is spoilers but if you watched Encanto- b r o- you would understand what I mean-
there is a certain aspect of this movie, however, that really pulled my attention despite their illegal lack of screen time- yep, you guessed it- it's Pepa and Felix's relationship! UwU
now, again, sorry if this is spoilers for those who haven't watched this movie, but I always found it sweet how Felix is like Pepa's special sunshine. Felix is a optimistic and chill guy who is very expressive and usually looks to the bright side of things, contrary to Pepa who's always under a lot of stress and, well, considering her powers are surrounded by her emotions and the weather depending what she's feeling, she's pretty much her own storm. But Felix cancels that out, with his energy, kindness, and unconditional love for Pepa, he always has ways of calming his wife down and instantly making her feel at ease. I'm a sucker for couples where one partner is able to put their partner's worries aside and instantly calm them down with their presence, so seeing that kind of nature with Felix and Pepa in every scene their in, even if it's more in the background in some scenes. there was even this one scene in the movie, where the main character, Mirabel, accidentally takes Pepa's seat, kinda leaving her pissed and with a cloud over her head, but the moment Felix gently places his hand on Pepa's shoulder and smiles at her whilst leading her to sit beside him, she instantly relaxes, the cloud around her dissipates and she smiles back at him sincerely. It's obvious that even though they have spent many years together and have their own family, their love is still fresh and every scene with those two in the movie always manages to put a smile on my face. Felix is Pepa's comfort and Pepa is Felix's adventure, the 2 always bring out the best in one another and despite how the family treats Pepa's powers and tells her to push aside her heavy emotions or else the absurd weather that lies with it will annoy all of them, Felix accepts Pepa's powers and does encourage her to rightfully feel her emotions whilst doing his best to comfort her the best he could, which was, personally, the reason I think Pepa and Felix did fall in love. in every scene their in, you can see how they resemble their own yin they're complete opposites but still find joy and support in one another's company, you can see how they compliment one another and balance each other out, which is what makes them a pure and healthy relationship. and considering the kind of condescending house hold Pepa was living in, you can tell that it's that kind of energy and affection that Pepa does need. someone who always knows how to clear her mind without casting aside her feelings or looking at how her emotions affect her surroundings as a burden and an annoyance, someone who genuinely brings joy and sunshine into her life of duty, and it is those kinds of relationships that I am a complete sucker for- (in fact, this kind of dynamic reminds me of my own precious sunshine who also reminds me a lot like Felix, hehe ;3)

oh gosh I just realised I spent around 700 words rambling about these 2 adorable dorks- AAAA- LOL WHO'S GONNA READ ALL OF THAT- DEAR LORD- OKAY- WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS- PEPA X FELIX GOOD- THEY PURE BEANS- AM WRITING PREQUEL ONE-SHOT FOR SAID PURE BEANS BUT YOUNGER- BOOM, BAM, CRACKLE, POP-
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY/NIGHT, LIVE, LAUGH, AND LOVE- HAPPY WINTER- YARART OUT!~~

oh also- !warning!: idk if this counts as spoilers but if it does- I'm sorry- also I do not own Encanto- please don't come hunting me down, Mickey Mouse ;-; (that and- my spanish isn't very good and I'm not that familiar with Colombian slang so- LO SIENTO FOR MY SPANISH- TwT)

The young afro man cautiously walked towards the door of the Casita. He has been messaged here by the great Alma Madrigal herself, the original bringer of the miracle and the home alongside children that bared inside of it.

There was something off about the entire Casita that truly shook him to his boots upon arriving at the front door... a huge and dark cloud reigned right over it, contrasting it to the generally sunny day inside of the Encanto village. not only that but the very walls were covered in frost bite. It covered the whole property of the Madrigal home, soaking it and ambushing it with it's storm.

"Well... that's... charming." The young man by the name of Felix awkwardly cleared his throat, the slightly terrified and judgemental crowd of villagers hiding away from the storm that casted over the Madrigal family in the safety of their own homes and their murmuring amongst each other were pretty much muted out by the slight thunder amongst the humongous rain cloud.

The poor man gulped in slight fear; judging by the huge storm, he can only guess the one person who was the cause of this, and soon got a better idea of why he was here.

He took a deep and calming breath, and finally reached forward towards the door bell to ring it... he had to ignore the cold as death feeling he received upon toughing the door bell, but as soon as he rung it... the wide doors of the Casita blew wide open to a soaked, freezing, and quite frustrated ageing woman who was infamously known as Alma Madrigal right at the door, as if she was expecting his arrival... which, judging by how instantly relieved she was when she saw his fidgeting presence at the door considering she personally invited him as well... she was.

"Oh thank the miracle you're finally here!" She instantly reached towards Felix's arm and yanked him inside, leaving him victim to the cold and pouring rain. Thanks to the immediate contrast in temperature and weather, the young man shivered and held his body close together to preserve any remaining warmth.

"G-g-g-GEEZ it's FREEZING in here! I-I thought t-this was a c-Casita, not an i-igloo!" His teeth chattered as Alma rolled her eyes but shivered along side him, "A-ay, pendejo, y-you think I d-don't know that!? I-it's Pepa! S-she's having a c-complete meltdown!" the mother Madrigal cursed as the two other halves of the Madrigal triplets, Bruno and Julieta, came storming in from Pepa's room to the main hall to greet Felix and their mother.

"W-well?" Alma pleaded with them silently, only to be met with disappointed shivers from them both.

"I-it's no use, Mamma! B-Bruno tried to m-make Pepa smile, b-but uh..."

"I-I kinda got zapped by her lightning, h-heheh... g-guess she doesn't like rat jokes..." Bruno finished for his sister with his skin chartered in the ashes left by the lightning whilst Julieta shakily brought out a piece of her homemade bread and fed it to her brother.

"Eat," She sighed wearily with her motherly instincts kicking in as her food soon became a remedy for poor Bruno's injuries. Despite him freezing and being soaked, Felix couldn't help but grin in amusement of the two siblings antics, as it seems they've always shined light in whatever room they were in. Alma, on the other hand, face-palmed in disappointment, "A-and what ab-bout you, J-Julieta? D-did your cooking h-help at all?" She asked her most responsible daughter as she unfortunately shook her head as well.

"I-I already told you, m-my food only r-remedies physical i-injuries, n-not mental ones! I-I couldn't even heal P-Pepa even if I wanted to! E-even my soup that I crafted for her i-instantly froze the m-moment I entered h-her room!" Young Julieta complained as she brought up a bowl of said frozen soup, "S-she won't l-listen to me o-or anyone!" Julieta finally fought back as Alma pinched the bridge of her nose and took a deep breath to calm her anger, which Felix saw as quite odd behaviour from a mother, even if she was a Madrigal.

His bright hazel orbs darted between the trio in confusion, "H-haven't you guys thought a-about... I-I don't know... a-actually asking why she's upset?"

All three of the Madrigals looked towards Felix and tilted their heads, dumbfounded by this one simple question as if it was a question only philosophers and scientists can find the answer to. "W-what? Her powers are s-surrounded by her emotions, r-right? I-if there's a h-huge storm l-like this o-over the Casita, t-then there has to be a h-huge reason as t-to why she's upset, isn't there?"

Bruno and Julieta turned to each other with awestruck smiles, as honestly; no one under Alma's influence would ever consider actually wandering about anyone of the Madrigal kids problems or feelings as everyone just assumed they didn't have any. Even Alma expected them to be perfect and use their gifts to serve their community, nothing more, nothing less. It was a messed up mindset but that was how the Madrigal triplets were raised all of their lives, especially Pepa, who seemed to be emotionally manipulated the most to access her powers. Maybe that could be a reason as to why she's upset. And the Fact that Felix was the only one to point that out not only impressed the two siblings but also kinda made them ashamed of themselves that they had disregarded this thought too. Alma, however, wasn't having any of it, and even considered it quite an insult from one of the few outsiders that she trusted.

"I-impossible! I-I know my daughter, she's a-always bugging out like this. It's always so frustrating to deal w-with her emotions, k-knowing her this is just her p-probably being annoyed o-or something!" She stubbornly jested, making her kids look down at the icy ground in shame and embarrassment.

Felix's wide eyes soon narrowed as he felt the disrespect from Alma on Pepa's behalf; he would honestly expect anyone else to disregard the person whom he cared about the most and her feelings but he really didn't expect Pepa's own family—nay, her own mother—the woman who raised her, to be the person who disregarded it. He shakily sighed and furrowed his eyebrows at the elder woman, "T-the fact you really think t-that this," He pointed up to the stormy cloud, "Was all c-caused by one s-small mishap that simply put P-Pepa in a b-bad mood—o-or even t-the fact you would s-so much as o-overlook your daughter's f-feelings, really s-shows that maybe y-you don't know her at all."

The three Madrigals gasped as Bruno held his breath and hid under his hoodie, not wanting to witness the reaction their mother would make to such bold comment. Although Alma was absolutely fuming, Felix stood his ground, making them both participate in a glaring war. The only thing that managed to break the staring contest between them is the Casita communicating with Alma but nudging her feet with the floor tiles, to which she finally ceased, sighed, and shoved Felix forward towards the stair case, "Well, s-since you know m-my daughter so well, t-then y-you should know why you're here! A-and that is to help P-Pepa! Now, o-on with it!"

Felix simply rolled his eyes and waddled through the frozen ground. "Inc-creíble... s-su propia f-familia ni siquiera puede a-ayudarla..." He cursed under his breath whilst Casita made the job of travelling upstairs easier for the young man by forcing through the cold to move the steps on their own in the motion similar to that of an escalator, making the journey up on the second floor easier to obtain.

The moment he made it upstairs, Felix made a bee-line to Pepa's room, already determined that whatever is wrong, he will do his best to cheer her up. By the time he made it to the weather woman's room, her door was brightly illuminated but also filled with icicles. He should have expected this, considering the main source for the weather would face worse climates the closer anything or anyone was to her. Taking another big breath to not only ease himself up but also warm himself up, he finally grabbed the door and slowly opened it to the chaos that was inside Pepa's room.

He was immediately met with the door swinging open due to the heavy win and the thick storm that raged inside. He had to physically shield himself from the impact before widening his eyes at the sight of his dear friend's room being morphed and swarmed with a heavy gust of wind that almost resembled a hurricane. the rain was worse on the inside, the freezing temperatures of the room made the rest of the house suddenly feel cozy in comparison, and thunder and lightning thrashed inside the room. It was the living embodiment of discord.

Despite this, Felix was only worried for Pepa's sake as he can only imagine what she could be feeling, not just on the inside due to her inner turmoils causing this storm, but on the outside considering how cold and wet she must be. "PEPA!" He called out, and without a second thought, forged past the storm and ran into her room.

He had to shield his eyes and be weary of his surroundings as the door slammed shut behind him and he looked around frantically for his dear friend. "P-PEPI! PEPI? ¿D-DÓNDE ESTÁS?" He called out to her, desperate and wandering around the room whilst feeling the air to try and get a glimpse of her touch.

Finally, when he was scared that it was all for not, he managed to catch a distant sound amongst the clapping thunder, the whisking wind and the thrashing snow and rain. It was faint and quiet, almost like a whisper; a sound that not many people would possibly catch, but Felix knew better... it almost sounded like... sobbing?

Feeling relief, Felix follows the sound, but he swore that the crying would only get quieter the closer he got to the source of it; as if the person who was making the sobs was trying desperately to hide it.

At last, he suddenly caught a slouched silhouette that rested on the ground. His eyes widen as he instantly realises who it was; "PEPA!" He called out again, running towards the slouched silhouette as she finally perks her head up and look to her closest friend in horror.

"F-FELIX?" She quickly wipes away the tears and pounds her fists against her head, forcing herself to try and stop the storm swarming the two. "C-clear skies, clear skies, clear skies..." She chants under her breath, growing frustrated with herself when it still didn't help, "D-DAMMIT!"

"Pepa! ¡P-para! Y-you're hurting yourself, mi q-querida." He finally reaches her and moves in front of her to remove her hands from her head to stop her from harming herself further. It seemed to instantly relax her, not by a lot but it was enough to slow down the blistering wind.

Pepa was, in short, a mess. Her dress was drenched from the rain, the ice she created from her dropped tempatures froze her legs to the ground, keeping her stuck on the ground, and her usually beautifully wild ginger hair was seemingly deflated and soaked as it fortunately covered her sobbing face and running mascara. She grumbled to herself as her face turned red under her hair, embarrassed that her friend and even secret crush had to be the one to see her like this. She really couldn't do anything right.

"W-what are you doing h-here anyways, hmm!? N-now you're all soaked and c-cold, b-because of me." She scolded in a dark tone, almost as if she was more angry at herself than Felix.

Felix tried to smile despite the cold, a fresh cloud of air leaving his lips and hitting her face as he tenderly held the beautiful Madrigal's hands. They were so cold, and were covered in frostbite.

"I-I don't mind~..." He whispers sweetly, causing Pepa to huff and turn her head away from him, but still not pulling back her hands. He was so warm compared to her. Almost as if he was still a warm and bright sun shining against the blistering odds of the chaotic weather. "B-besides, it's better than l-leaving you here all so-oaked and cold by y-yourself, d-don'tcha think? N-no one deserves to be a-alone like this."

That seemed to relax the young red-head even further, as the temperature around the room didn't seem as cold as before. But the storm still raged on greatly, so it was obvious she was still upset.

Frowning as he could still see Pepa trying to choke down her sobs, he softly removes the hair from her face so he could see his friend again. His heart immediately broke upon seeing Pepa's beautiful yet bawling eyes. Her emerald orbs glistened in tears as mascara drops ran down her rosy red cheeks, her nose was also runny and stuffy from both the cold weather and the salty wet tears.

"W-what happened, P-Pepi? Y-you look like you've been through h-hell and back!" Felix voiced his concerns, making Pepa trying to wipe her tears away, but to no avail. "Don't do that," He says softly as he grasped her hands again to stop herself from covering her cries, "I-it's okay not to feel okay all of the time, querida, I-I just want to know what's wrong s-so you don't have to burden y-yourself with your b-built up emotions, that's all. N-no pressure."

That seemed to struck a chord within the madirgal, as the moment he mentioned 'burden', she flinched, causing a flash of lightning to flash immediately, right behind Felix. He didn't move away or show any form of fear. He still kept his eyes on Pepa, patiently waiting for her to reply whilst care and concern was written across his face. Oh gods, how Pepa can't resist when he looks at her like that.

After a moment of hesitance, she finally broke. She throws her face into her hands as she finally pulled away from Felix, finally breaking into loud sobs that she dare did not want to show in front of her brother, sister, even mother.

"I-I DON'T WANT TO BURDEN YOU, EITHER, THOUGH!" She cried out, her voice breaking and full of hiccups that was enough to catch Felix off guard as he placed a hand over her back, worry littered in his eyes. "W-what are you talking about? Y-you don't burden me—"

"OF C-COURSE I DO! I-I BURDEN EVERYONE! M-MY VERY EMOTIONS ARE ENOUGH TO R-RUIN EVERYONE'S DAY! I'M ONLY USEFUL FOR GIVING OTHERS SUNLIGHT, SOMETHING THEY ALREADY HAVE ANYWAY! I-I'M USELESS! I N-NEVER DO A-ANYTHING RIGHT! I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY!" She grabbed her and pounded her head with her balled fists again as the storm raged on greater than before, almost bringing Felix to tears himself.

"Shh, shh, it's okay Pepa. It's okay. None of that is true, okay? Come here..." His voice soothed her as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled his dear friend into a well-needed hug, inviting her to wrap her arms around his neck and sob on his shoulder. The young Caribbean man ran his fingers through Pepa's hair, doing everything in his power to comfort her as she rained all of her emotions on him.

And they sat there, in silence (with the exception of Felix whispering assuring affirmations into Pepa's ear), holding each other tightly for what seemed like a pleasant eternity until the atmosphere turned from a raging and chaotic storm to a humid and gentle drizzle.

"It's been a bad day for you, hasn't it?" Felix finally spoke, breaking the comfortable silence between the two. He may have been wet himself from the rain that still poured, but the warmth of his hear and spirit was enough to ease the weather woman and cause her to open up with a heart-aching sentence.

"Everyday has been a bad day."

Felix released a shaky sigh, trying his absolute hardest not to cry either.

"Except for when I'm with you."

His ears perked up as he looked down at his friend, who was supposedly covering her blushing face from the sudden warmth he felt on the shoulder she was hiding her face against. His own cheeks highlighted it's own red blush as he gently broke into a small smile, slightly tightening his hold on his friend. His Pepa.

"Do you... um... need anything? A blanket? A towel? I can help Julieta to make some tea or hot chocolate for you, if you want."

The ginger-haired girl shook her head gently, "Maybe later... C-can you just... hold me a little longer, mi sol?"

His whole body warmed up in delight when she called him that. 'Mi sol'. It translated to 'My sunshine'.

He simply nodded, now trying to contain his excitement and happiness as he gently leaned down and placed his chin on her head.

"I'll hold you for as long as you need, mi querida."

And so he kept that promise. For a very long time.

~The End~
