Chapter 4
Letting Sharon go tonight had been torture. But the torture of being so close, yet so far away was far worse.
He knew that Sharon wasn't sick. It was just a convenient excuse for her to escape the torture he now knew she was feeling, too.
The moment their bodies collided unexpectedly, Sharon let her guard down.
He heard the hitch in her breath.
He felt her heartbeat speed up against his chest.
He saw the love in her eyes.
In that moment he knew, finally, that she still loved him as much as he loved her.
It's why he couldn't let her go.
Adam was glad that Sharon came to her senses and stepped away before he gave in to his urge to kiss her.
That wouldn't have worked out well for either of them.
When he regained his equilibrium, Adam noticed she'd dropped her phone, so he bent down to pick it up and saw the rideshare app open.
If she was going to leave, the least he could do is call her a car.
It took everything in him to keep his veneer of cool composure as he facilitated her departure.
He didn't trust himself around her, so he went back inside before she left.
Once he was in the lobby, he made a beeline for the men's room. After checking to make sure it was empty, he gave in and let the tears fall.
His arm still tingled where he'd brushed her on the way in. Would he ever be able to get her out of his system?
