Chapter Ten: Staff Meeting
The night before had been trying for them all. Despite that, The Sleep Hecate had was quite pleasant and refreshing. The next day, she dressed in an all black attire, as per usual.
Miss Cackle had ordered a full staff meeting. As nervous as it made her to leave Mildred Alone. She Grabbed some Paper from her side, and quickly scribbled a note.
She didn't want something too nice. But she also did not actively want to be harsh. She was looking for just the right amount of Threatening. "Mildred, I will not be a babysitter. I have duties to perform. I will be watching for you at Breakfast. Do not be late"
She felt it sent a clear idea of what things should be like. No one "Looming" As she said. But she'd still be watched. Hopefully enough incentive for her to stay in line. Hecate left it on the table, just hoping she'd actually look. It'd be just like Mildred to pay no mind to where even her feet stood.
The Potions mistress eventually left her 'home', if one could call it that. Letting her heels clank along the floor, warning all early risers of their place, and the risk of trouble causing. No one was looking to incur the wrath of Miss Hardbroom. Especially not so early.
She checked in on the hall to find only a few students sitting waiting. Most likely so they can get some hot food. A Wise choice Hecate thought, it was always good to get an early morning. Better food, more awake, early night. It all fell into place.
After the hall, she simply had a look around during her walk to the Office. Upon walking in, Ada and Dimity were already there. Dimity was also an early riser, she liked to get out for a quick job around the castle, and sometimes also throw in a fly about too, before breakfast.
"Morning, HB!" Drill said far too cheerfully. "Can I grab you a cupper now you're here?" Ever the helpful friend.
"Yes. Thank you." Hecate answered, chrisply. Watching as She went over to the tea area, fixing up another cup of tea. Hecate moved towards Ada's right hand, the place she normally stands while in here.
The Ada in question, was sitting nursing her own cup of tea. Looking far better than the night before. Brighter, more hopeful. She did however, throw Hecate a worried clanced when she first entered. One that did not go unnoticed.
A Cup of tea was placed on Ada's desk for Hecate, right before Miss Bat and Mr Rowan-Webb walked in. Prompting Dimity to turn around and practically yelled out "Two more cups coming up!" She was a little too Tea Happy this morning for Hecate's likling.
Ada, Miss Bat and Mr Rowan-Webb all engaged in a talk about the latest school tests, With Dimity chiming in every now and then. Normally Hecate would throw in the odd shady comment. But her mind was far more preoccupied.
One of the most pressing matters on her mind was if Mildred would make it to Breakfast. Actually a pressing matter for her, was Mildred overall. Hecate hated to admit it, but yesterday was pure Hell. She also hated to admit it, but to some extent, she cared for the girl.
She cared for all of the Girls at cackles in some manner. Even Mildred. But since they now had something connecting them. A Situation that could bring out the worst in people, she would know. She found herself wanting to protect her from all that may hinder her. Mildred would become a great witch, without losing that light in her eyes. She'd see to it if it was the last thing she ever did.
But for now, She just hopes that Mildred will make it to Breakfast. On time. She also hopes that she won't trash her apartment in the meantime.
Another thing pre-occupying her mind was this meeting. Everyone was here, yet they fancied small talk. Most Likely the situation with Mildred will be spoken about. Truthfully, When Ada calls emergency meetings, she doesn't consult first. There's no point confronting her before it either, it wouldn't be long till Ada would have to tell them all anyway. No point speaking about it twice in such a short space of time.
"Hecate?" Her name brought her back to the hear and now. Ada sat looking up at her with a mildly concerned look. One in which Hecate could only nod at.
"Right, Well. You're probably all wondering why I've called you here." Ada started. "Well.. It has everything to do with one Mildred Hubble.." Hecate was correct. This was to talk about that situation.
"Last night we had a terrible Scare. Mildred had decided to go for a walk in the forest, one which resulted in a fight between Miss Hardbroom, and Julie Hubble." There was a gasp from a few of the teachers. Well. Two of them. Miss Bat and Miss Drill. "Now, No one is Majorly harmed, thankfully. But, I want each teacher to keep an extra eye on Mildred. If she doesn't show up for class, You let myself or Miss Hardbroom know immediately. Same with if you see her doing anything.. Questionable."
Miss Cackle Nodded at all the teachers as they took in what was being said. "Understood, Miss Cackle!" Mr Rowan-Webb chimed in.
"Oh! And don't make it too obvious she's being watched. We don't want to scare her away." Ada chuckled slightly, Trying to defuse the situation. "That's all! Thank you."
The Other teachers all filled out of the room, but before Hecate could leave. "Oh, There one last thing, Miss Hardbroom." Hecate turned to look at Ada. "Please, close the door."
Hecate closed the door, as asked, before walking towards the Desk. "Ada?"
"I received work from the Great Wizard this morning." She really should have led with that. "Your punishment is getting a slight change" Of all the things Ada could have said. That was the least expected. "Mildred Hubble will be placed in your sole care. Permission from the Grand Wizard will be needed for leaving cackles for an extended period of time. But, you're not confined so strictly now. He's sending a scroll with all of it laid out for you both." Ada Explained.
Hecate nodded. She wouldn't mention it to Mildred, not till the Scroll came. Should mean less Questions. Or at least, less questions that are missing Answers. "That is all, Hecate. I just thought you'd like to know". Hecate nodded. Yes, she did like to know. And Now, she'd leave and go to Breakfast. Where hopefully she'd find Mildred.
