Chapter 20: Exam Results and Surprises

Hecate was up, ready and out on Wednesday Morning far earlier than she expected, She'd received a Maglet message from Ada the night before. All the Results for the School exams have now been marked. Hecate was very grateful for this, Her and Mildred would be leaving for pentangles Tomorrow night, and she wanted everything to be out of the way beforehand.

She'd Been tempted to peek at Mildred's Results. She of course knew her results for Potions, but she didn't for everything else. To be honest, Mildred did pretty well in her Potions. At least until she completely failed the last exam. But the first two managed to pull her up enough that she had not failed potions. Despite her harsh words after the events.

As is customary, Miss Hardbroom went through that morning, Slipping students results under their door hopefully just as the early risers were getting up. It was Tiraring going round each room to post the results. Miss Cackle wasn't great at early rising. Mr Rowan-Webb was too new to know where the results should be posted. Miss Drill woke everyone up by doing it. And Miss Bat was useless. It was for Easier for Hecate to do it alone.

By the time it was done, there was only half an hour left till the bell went. Mildred would be up already, So Hecate wasted no time in transferring herself to the Apartment. Mildred wasn't within the living area, So Hecate knocked on Mildred's Door.

"Come in?" The Voice Responded from the other side. Mildred sounded confused, most likely because Hecate was long gone by the time she woke up, let alone just before she left. Hecate entered the bedroom, Finding Mildred sat on her Bed, just finishing her hair.

"It's rather unorthodox.. However.." Hecate held up the small envelope with Mildred's name on it. "Your exam results." Hecate came to sit down next to Mildred On the bed, holding the results out to her.

Mildred looked practically terrified, Her hand shook as she took the envelope, and slowly opened it. Hecate didn't look over her shoulder, she waited patiently for Mildred to tell her. "Seventy Percent.." Mildred Muttered before looking to Hecate. "I got an Overall of Seventy percent!"

Seventy Percent wasn't amazing by any means, But it wasn't terrible either. By the end of last year, Mildred Got a Fifty-Two. So Seventy was a massive improvement. In their year, they really shouldn't be getting anything lower than Sixty.

"I got Seventy-Eight Percent in Chanting.." Mildred Went on to explain her results. "I messed up a line or two, but I guess my delivery made up for it!" She smiled brightly at that realisation. "Eighty-Three Percent in Flying! Eight-Three! I just need to get Tabby to sit on the broom, and leave myself more room when going past trees.." At least Mildred could identify her faults, and knows what to tackle next. "Potions.. Sixty-Three.." She looked Sheepishly at Hecate.

"I know, I marked it." Hecate raised an eyebrow.

"But you also said I failed.. So, I just wanted to make sure you knew" It was rather quick witted and cheeky. Forcing a smirk from the older witch. "I also got a.. Well…" Mildred clammed up, her smile disappearing.

"Yes?" Hecate tried to encourage, Her own smirk leaving her.

"I got Fifty-Eight in spell Science.." As stated, No student should be getting below a Sixty. It was definitely her worst subject, which had surprised Hecte, As Mr Rowan-Webb had said she was doing fairly well. Perhaps the test was too hard, or perhaps it's that it was an essay that she struggled with.

"You will do better next time." Hecate would make sure of it. They'd put a bit more time into Spell science and potions, and pick up the grades. She'd Learned so much, and gotten much better in the last year. In the next year to come, she'll improve a lot more.

Mildred looked up to Hecate and gave her one of her small smiles. "Thank you.. For helping" She leaned against Hecate, who stiffened up slightly at the sudden gesture. But she soon let one arm move around to rest on Mildred's Shoulder.

"I am happy to help at any time.." Hecate Confirmed. "Speaking of Helping.. Follow me." Hecate untangled herself from Mildred, and went to her own room. Mildred on her heels, At least until they got to HB's Room door.

Mildred had never been in, or seen it in fact. Entering Hecate's room had been strictly forbidden. But, for the moment, she'd allow her access. But just for one quick surprise. "We've got a party at Pentangles to attend.." Hecate Stated, Watching Mildred tentatively step over the threshold, looking confused as ever. "I had noticed you've got dresses, But i thought something.. Newer.. Would be preferable. So, As a.. Well done.. For your results.."

Truth is, Hecate had gotten an earful from Pippa last time they spoke. She insisted the girl get a nice dress for the Pentangles Party. 'It's only right, Hiccup!' She had said. But, Hecate was never one to give anything away for free. The moment she had seen the potions test results, she knew that Mildred would do better than the year previous. She'd Jumped onto a mirror call that night and told Pippa. They'd Looked at their Maglets, and gone over options until finally ordering something for the girl.

Hecate opened the wardrobe and pulled out a blue dress box, paired with a White ribbon, and matching shoe box. Mildred came closer with eyes wide. "For.. Me..?" Her voice broke in between the words. Hecate nodded and watched as Mildred placed the items onto the bed to open them.

The first one to be opened was the shoe box. Mildred took out a pair of Black Pumps with a small thick heel on it. It had a small sash that went round the ankle, with a bow on the side of that sash. Within the box of shoes, was a small see thru bag, Upon further inspection, Mildred round a small Silver Charm Bracelet. Her face was the picture of delight, awe and confusion.

She placed one box to the side to undo the white ribbed on the other. Mildred's Breath caught when she lifted the lid to find a dark Plum coloured dress. It looked a lot like a Sleeveless turtleneck dress with shape and style. The Skirt Portion came down.. Almost like a triangle, all the way to the middle of Mildred's Carves. And right around the waist, was a Black Sash, paired with Bow on the left side. Perfectly matching her shoes.

She looked at Miss Hardbroom and just simply said: "Miss Hardbroom… Thank you". With every word, Hecate could tell she meant it.

"Oh, Don't thank me." Hecate said, ever the modest. "You should thank Miss Pentangle. It was a.. Collaboration." She made sure to point out every syllable in that word.

"How so..?" Mildred asked, looking generally curious on what Miss Pentangle had to do with it.

"She Picked the dress, I picked the colour…" Hecate then went on to clarify. "She wanted bright yellow."

As nice as Mildred would have looked in Yellow, It was bad enough she had to be seen with a bright pink witch, She didn't need her ward to be the neon yellow one.

Mildred placed the dress back into the box and moved closer to give Hecate yet another hug. She seemed to be getting much more comfortable with that. Meanwhile, Hecate still felt awkward as ever about it. Tensing up slightly. But, as always, she soon wrapped her arms around Mildred, Just in time for the first bell of the day to go off.

Mildred Pulled away, slightly, So Miss Hardbrooms arms still rested on her. "Shall we go to breakfast?" It was an Invite to walk with her.

"Well, It is that time of day." Hecate Announced as the two walked out. They walked side by side all the way to the Hall. The odd Student gives them odd looks, wondering what Mildred had done wrong. Before they could even step foot inside the hall however, Maud and Enid Stop them in their tracks.

"Well Meet, Miss Hardbroom!" Maud started, hand to forehead and bowing slightly, Enid following through. "Thank you for helping us study! I got an Eight two!"

"I got Sixty Eight." Enid Laughed at their Percent difference.

Hecate looked to Mildred, who looked just about ready to burst! "I got Seventy!" She practically yelled! Both her friends looked shocked, yet equally excited.

"I'm so happy for you, Mille!" Maud said, pulling her into a hug. Hecate detached herself from the situation, walking towards the teachers table. But not before hearing Enid's quick remark "But that makes me the worst witch!"

Hecate spent the rest of the day, feeling rather proud.

I had this urge to put Mildred in a Pastel yellow dress. Because A) I think it would suit her. B) When not in school uniform, they seemed to like putting her in sunset colours. (reds, oranges, yellows). But I couldn't for the life of me, justify Hecate putting her in something so bright.. Yet Black felt wrong on Mildred. So, Plum it is!

Anyway, Enough of my Rambling. Leave a review! Only 5 Chapters left to go!
