Chapter 5: Origins

"At the dawn of time there were 2 pokemon in existence, Arceus, my brother, and Mew. They are the beings that made this world, created the land, sea and sky. I was lucky to be one of the first created, along with many of the current rulers. We were in charge of our respective domains and left to our own devices, meanwhile less powerful pokemon were created to populate the planet and explore it to their devices. As time went on, some of these pokemon gained traits, abilities that became similar to one another, pokemon began sticking to those of their own types, plants would group with other plants, more metallic pokemon came together, even pokemon that were less unique began forming groups.

Everything was fine for a while, however as more pokemon and groups formed, malice began forming between the poisonous and dark groups and the fairies and psychics, other groups taking sides. This soon broke out into a full scale war, pokemon battling each other for domination of the realm. It waged for years, even deities coming to join the carnage, causing alliances to crumble further still. In the end Arceus and Mew broke the war up, realising the damage that was caused. To end the dispute, the land was split evenly between the groups all tailored to them, and exclusive to them, no other types can enter so as to not risk another war. Leaders were assigned based on rank and position, and from there we built our own kingdom's.

Overpopulation became a problem, with so little resources and more violent pokemon wanting to fight, almost 3000 years ago, the portals were formed, a gateway connecting our world with another where creatures known as humans roamed alongside pokemon. One was made in each kingdom with many pokemon leaving for the new world, a good chunk however stayed to keep the kingdom's going. While the portal has stayed open before, as far as I am aware only Arceus has the power to open them, even then they have been closed for quite some time, so to see pokemon from the other world here without warning… it is almost unheard of.``

Giratina looked to the 3 in his care "so I am sorry but I have no say in if it will open again"

There was a mixture of reception to the news, Phantump seemed to take it well, he understood that Giratina had no control. Honedge seemed to be in complete shock, trying to process what was happening, but Sinestea had a look of anger, almost convinced this was a lie "Tauros faeces, you said this Arceus is your brother, just talk to him!"

"Arceus has not been seen for ages, he rarely stays in one place as well so is hard to track"

Honedge finally snapped out and looked at Giratina "so… there is no way back home?"

"No… not for now anyway."

Sinestea slammed the desk with her hand, it wasn't hard enough to shake it but the noise echoed in the space "you're lying! Your wife can create portals! And aren't you the god of dimensions or something? You can't seriously think we're believing you right now!"

Froslass got up, a chill forming on her hands but Giratina stood her down. "It's ok. How did you know I was a god?"

"While getting lost here we ran into your library, thought I'd take a quick peek and low and behold, your name was in the book of deities."

Giratina took a deep breath, she was smart, to an annoyingly difficult level. "I did have that title, but not anymore, and Hoopa can only create portals on this world, not between them"

"Titles are nothing, you MUST still have that power somewhere"

"I'm do not"

"Shut up, liar"

"You must beli-"

"You know what? I don't think I have reason to believe a word you say!"

The mood was tense, Giratina wanted to regain control but anything he would say would make it worse. But an unexpected voice chirped up "STOP PLEASE! FIGHTING WON'T FIX THE SITUATION! JUST LISTEN!" They both turned to the voice, Phantump in tears as he spoke "If you don't trust him, th-then trust me. Please miss teacup."

Sinestea looked surprised, backing up. Honedge hadn't said anything, neither had Hoopa who was keeping an eye on Rotom looking left and right. Sinestea took a deep breath "I'm…. So sorry Giratina I… don't know what came over me"

Giratina looked back "no it was fair, I have not shown my whole hand, nor do I intend to. Some things are best left unknown about me."

Honedge floated up and finally said something "is it to do with the title renegade?"

Giratina nodded, and looked away.

He didn't want to face them; he felt like he gave them the worst news they could have wanted and they reacted poorly. But he saw from the corner, Phantump approaching and looking up "Mr Giratina? You mentioned there were attacks on the city… how bad are they?"

Giratina thought for a moment, before carefully answering "Well, they seem to just be causing mass panic, however with how fast they strike it's hard to mobilise a force to take them out, especially when we don't know where they will show up. Damage keeps getting worse and worse too."

"Is-... there anything I can do to help?"

Giratina smiled a little "I don't think so my friend"

"They could join the task force"

Everyone turned to Froslass whose face once more portrayed no emotions. Giratina shook his head "no, that would be unfair on him, he's struggled enough as is"

"True, but we are low on recruits, need rooms and food to house these 3, 2 have already accepted the deal, so it's only fair that-"

"They were young adults Froslass, we can't just let a child into a battleground"

"There are more jobs than simply fighting, I'm sure they could find work for him that doesn't involve combat"

"Even so, these aren't our subjects, they aren't ours to do with as we-"

"I'll do it" Phantump spoke up, the most confident he had sounded all day, though the bar was pretty low so it's not saying much. "We won't be going home for a bit, I know that. So if I can help during this time, no matter how dangerous, I want to do it."

Giratina was amazed by the courage, but was almost more amazed with how quickly Honedge rose and brandished his blade again "as do I. A ruler must protect those below them, and while thou are not my subjects, I would be honoured for the experience and privilege to steel thines blade in thou's honour."

Sinestea looked at the two and sighed "Well now I'm gonna look like a monster if I decline so, might as well too, could substitute for the training I'm missing"

Rotom took no time zipping to Phantump "You get to help kick bad guy butt? AWESOME! I wish I could join you, tell me everything when you get back here, also please visit it gets lonely sometimes" Hoopa chuckled as she pulled Rotom back to give Phantump some space. "I'm glad you 3 want to help, I'm sure the commander will be thrilled too."

Giratina for a few seconds was still processing why they all agreed to this, but eventually smiled "I… humbly thank all of you. Froslass will Escort you to the camp."

Froslass nodded and stood up, rotom looking a little sad "aww, but our game…"

"It's ok, our game can wait a little longer, but i promise when i get back we will have our best game yet"

"Okkkkk. Be quick though!"

"As quick as a sableye to gemstones"

Giratina couldn't help but smile, yet still felt bad for froslass as she finished up her food. Her and rotom were a great if unorthodox pair, and the longer they were apart the more he saw rotom get impatient, but he knew this was the right call. As the evening grew on and everyone finished their meals, froslass gave one last hug to rotom, a smile desperately trying to creep on her face to brief avail, and her and their guests headed off to the camp. Giritina let a large breath out "that could have gone better"

Hoopa chuckled, "hey, i think you did very well under the circumstances."

"Yes but i don't believe you are the one i was trying to convince"

"Well if they're willing to help us then I'd say you're doing great sweetie."

Giratina gave a grin "thanks darling. You always know how to calm my nerves"

Hoopa chuckled as she covered her mouth "hehe, yep, my super secret ability"

They both chuckled as they winded down from the night, the castle's hallways becoming quiet once more with the slight echoes of rotom's playing and their own breath.
