A/N: I have to apologize for my lack of writing recently. I had planned to have a new chapter of my 'Things That Matter' story out last month, but real life got in the way namely I'm training to become a drone pilot. It's a lot like driver's ed: lots of reading, lots of studying, I have to pass a test, and then I have lots of hands-on training. I hope to have all this done by April which will open up my schedule a bit more for writing. In the meantime, I've written some short pieces related to the universe. They are way too short to have their own story, so I'm publishing them as this work of short pieces, which will be added to if I write any more. Enjoy!
Life's Scars
Adam sat in front of the fireplace listening to the howling winter wind outside. He ran his thumb idly over a particularly nasty looking scar on his right hand. Even though it healed years ago, a cold night like tonight still brought a dull pain to it.
Over the past 80 years, he had received his fair share of visible scars, but there were also all the invisible ones he held in the deep recesses of his heart. The death of his wife Cecily and his children growing up and moving away came to his mind almost every day.
Yes, some of life's worst scars were the ones on the inside, seen only by him. On the other hand, those were also some of the best memories for him and he wouldn't change them for anything.
