AN: We dabble into Asami's family dynamics and our sweet bean is trying her best ?
Ch 2b: Same Old Talk
Cutting into a steak, Asami took a tasteless bite before mindlessly chewing and swallowing the piece. There was this unsettling silence at the dining table and she couldn't have wanted to shoot herself in the foot ever more so than now. Talk about a waste of time… she could've been at home watching a movie or even relaxing and helping herself to a nice dinner or something. She glances at the clock and it was still a bit too early in the day for her to get completely wasted. Nothing was worse than this… on second thought, getting wasted now didn't sound too bad. Cutting into another piece of steak, she plops it into her mouth before her ears twitch.
"So Asami, have you found yourself a nice young man yet." Her father asks to break the silence.
She immediately frowns. Setting down her cutlery, she dabs her mouth. "No."
Hideyuki spares her a pitiful look. Ren notices the shift in her mood before trying to save her and harmlessly asks, "Then have you found a nice girl?"
Asami shoots Ren a sharp glare before Hiroshi firmly sets down his utensils, catching most of his children's attention.
"This silly talk again. We've already discussed this matter Asami, this is only a phase and it'll pass over once you find a nice man. What about that date you had with Iroh? He was quite a capable man. He is more than welcomed into our family." He says with a condescending look as if he had already decided on her future and was daring her to rebel.
Letting out a heavy huff, Asami lost whatever puny appetite she had. "That's something you decided on your own." She spits out like bitter poison, "This isn't a phase dad. I've told you before, I like both men and women alike."
"Nonsense sweetheart." He affirms in a sweet voice, ignoring her rage. "Once you find the right guy, you'll be happy. If Iroh wasn't good enough for you, how about I set up another date? I've heard that Mako was in the same grade as you, how about him? Or even his brother, Bolin, was it?"
Asami slams the table with her fist. "I don't need you setting me up with blind dates and I especially don't need your help finding a partner." She raises her voice, almost yelling across the table.
"Young lady, watch your tone. I did not raise you to grow up this disrespectful or an even dyke!"
Having had enough, she stands up before throwing her tablecloth onto the table. "Mom was the one who raised me and I know she would've still loved me for who I am!" She lashes out as if painful tears were spilling out of her pores.
Hiroshi snapped. "Asami Sato. How dare you bring your mother into this!" He grabs his own forehead in fatigue, "Yasuko… where did I do wrong? Our daughter has changed so much."
Asami clenched her fist to the point she almost bled. The taste of iron was prominent within her mouth as she bit down on her cheeks before she bitterly fought back her tears. After some breathing, she finally untensed her jaw before muttering out, "You're the one who changed."
"What was that young lady?" He snaps back with anger, "I changed? I was the one who gave you the freedom to do what you want and finish school instead of going abroad but this is how you repay me!"
Knowing she wouldn't be able to contain her anger, Asami stormed out of the dining hall. She bitterly expresses her thanks for this distasteful dinner in their native language. "Thanks for the meal."
"Asami. Get back here young lady, Asami!" Hiroshi stood up, pushing back his seat in the process, and was about to chase after her until Hideyuki stopped him.
"Father, I'll go after her, you should finish the meal while it's still warm."
He looked like he was about to burst with anger before he sighs heavily and sits back down. He rubs his temples before speaking up in Japanese. "Then I'm counting on you, son. Speak some sense into that foolish sister of yours."
Hideyuki clenched his fist before turning to follow after his sister. Along the way, he glances at Naofumi, who was eating his meal as calmly as ever, before passing by Ren. When he walked by him he whispered. "Way to go nii-san."
"What?! What'd I do?" Ren retorts in a hushed voice feeling somewhat confused and guilty.
Hideyuki sighs before kicking his shin under the table while whispering a swear. "Freaking idiot."
Of course, Ren did the same and expressed his pain. "Ow—hey! I didn't do anything wrong, right Naofumi nii-sama?"
"..."
Hiroshi finally pulled together his composure. "So how is my granddaughter Naofumi? Is she growing up well?"
Naofumi finally slightly looks over at their father before giving Hideyuki's back profile a glance. He breathes out a sigh before answering and continuing the meal. "She is doing well, father."
"That's great news! As expected of my son, we can expect a new genius in our family I bet. I heard she can do more advanced math compared to her classmates?"
"That is correct father."
"Very good. I can't wait until..."
As they proceeded their conversation like normal, soon enough the two youngest Satos had left the dining room and were out the front door. However, since Asami had a head start, she beat her brother and made good distance. Hideyuki followed closely behind as he rushed outside and looked left and right before seeing his sister in the distance. He started chasing after her with a concerned look.
"Asami…" Hideyuki calls out before running after her steps. "Asami, wait a sec!" It wasn't until he raised his voice in Japanese that finally made her slow down a bit. "Please wait!"
Asami had stormed off into the garden as she wiped away her burning tears. She sniffles hideously. She had a hard time expressing herself in English. "Why… WHY!" She turns to lash her anger at him. "It's always like this Hide-nii!" Tears start spilling from her eyes, "It's always like this!"
Hideyuki walks over before pulling Asami in his chest. "There there…" he starts patting her back soothingly, "It's okay. You're okay."
She bawled out a hideous cry into the crevice of his neck. "I just want to be me! What's wrong with liking women? Tell me, am I that strange! Am I that strange for liking women?" She sobs out in a complete mess.
With a sad frown, Hideyuki starts patting her head comfortingly. "Nothing's wrong with you Asami. I love you the way you are and you know mom would've accepted and loved you as much as she did. It wouldn't have mattered if you like both men and women or maybe even only women, she would have supported you and that doesn't change who you are."
"Then what about dad! Why can't he see that! I'm still his little girl, aren't I? I haven't changed!"
That comment bore through his heart and he had a hard time looking into her eyes. "Dad's… dad has changed. Ever since mom passed, he's become more… narrow-minded?"
Asami melts into her brother's arms before joking. "You mean more idiotic. Men are so useless without women…"
"Wha—hey! I'm a guy too!"
"Yeah and you're stupid, I swear… men." She scoffs before leaning back. "Korra's way better company than you."
Hideyuki pulls back before cooly grabbing his chest as if he took a shot. "That's cruel little sis…"
Asami sniffles and wipes her nose with her palm before her eyes with the back of her fingers. "What? This is the perfect time for comfort sex and it's not like we can fuck because," she makes a barfing noise, "that'd be disgusting. Korra on the other hand… Mmh." She let out an audible kiss to tease him further.
Hideyuki completely lets Asami go faster than dropping a ball. "Okay gross. I did not just hear that, I don't want to know about my little sister's sex life thank you very much."
She sticks her tongue out to tease him which makes him crack a smile. After Asami regained her composure, soon enough, they walked through the garden together towards where the cars were parked. Once they arrived, Hideyuki pulled out his keys. "Here, why don't you head home first? I'll smooth it over with dad somehow."
She takes the keys with pleasure however her Japanese slips out instead of English. "Thanks Hide-nii." Once the door cracks open, she sits in the seat before adjusting it to her settings. "Say…"
"Yeah, what's wrong?" He responds back with a tilt of the head.
She couldn't look him in the eyes. "You think dad will ever…"
Frowning slightly, he knew exactly what Asami was referring to without it being said. He pulls the collar to his shirt forward nervously before saying, "I'm sure he'll come to one day…"
Asami huffed. "When will that ever be… it's been two years already Hide-nii… two years."
"Well…" Hideyuki gets down onto one of his knees to look Asami in the eyes. He rests his hand above Asami's before warmly reassuring. "One day, you will find a wonderful man or woman who will love and support you for who you are. And, at that time, I know for a fact that you will be happy and I'm sure once dad sees that, he will have to come around too."
"..." her lips quivered. "You think so?"
He leans up to kiss the crown of her head before reassuring his sister. "Yeah, of course, but be sure to eat dinner when you get back. Got it?" He pleads, knowing Asami's tendencies when it comes to her health when she is depressed and or upset.
"Okay…" She finally inserts the key into the ignition before starting the car. It roars to life and she watches as her brother takes a step back before smiling when he waves her off. "Good night Hide-nii."
Hideyuki nods before waving off, "Night."
xXx
It's been more than a week since that oh-so 'wonderful' dinner and Asami ended up taking multiple days off at school. Meeting up with her father always resulted in some sort of stress-breaking health issue and this time, she's been backed up with all of her projects. That and also a lack of appetite. She doesn't exactly remember the last time she ate properly. She ends up mumbling to herself in her native tongue.
"Haa… I'm hungry."
She checks her phone before scrolling through the multitude of missed calls and texts. Most of them had to do with the circle she hung around with at school. As she scrolled through a few of them, it wasn't until she saw a certain pen name that made her sit up straight faster than one could blink. It was Korra.
Ocean Eyes (18:22): hey sorry I know this is a bit abrupt but r u busy
Ocean Eyes (18:22): I actually hav this coupon for 2 to this family grill & it expires today. My friend canceled on me so I was wondering if you were free and wanted to come?
Ocean Eyes (18:22): if u arent busy that is… lmk asap ok?
Her mouth drops. Her eyes immediately snapped at the time and that was thirty minutes ago.
"Shit."
She immediately got up from her seat before dialing her number and storming over to her closet.
"Please pick up, please pick up…"
It rang once. Then twice. Then thrice.
Just when she was about to give up and cry, the call connected.
"Hello?"
Her face lit up like a light bulb. "Hey! Sorry, I just read your text, I hope it's not too late to say yes….?" She stares at her reflection and judges her messy self. Sniffing herself, she deemed she clean and hygienic enough before pulling her hair into a high ponytail as Korra answered.
"Actually perfect timing! I just finished a workout and had to run some errands so I was just about to shower. I was gonna cook something since you hadn't responded but if you're down, I'll text you the address! How about we meet up there… at around seven-thirty or so?"
"Yeah, that sounds good. I'll meet you there then."
"Alright, talk to you later."
"See you soon…"
Korra was the first to hang up and for some reason, Asami felt like she had woken up from a lucid dream. Her heart was thumping loudly and she knew what it was from. She was excited. Grasping her chest, she closes her eyes before softly banging her head onto the wall.
"How did I become like this?"
She honestly felt silly.
Why was her heart racing over such a simple invite? Being the heiress she was, she attended high-class dinners and banquets all the time. So… 'common' places such as family grills were never in her sight. It didn't help that most people that she did go on dates with either took her out to clubs, cafes, and even fancy restaurants in an attempt to impress her. She had sat through them all and as you'd expect, she had grown tired of them so why was Korra's invitation making her heart skip beats?
Asami knew why but she refused to say it.
Her feelings were growing more apparent with every counter and opportunity that she was crushing on Korra more than her heart was ready for. Trying to ignore those lingering thoughts, she swatted them away and by the time she had gotten dressed with a simple white tee with a tan jacket, black jeans, and matching boots, she was waiting patiently in front of the family grill. Having arrived a few minutes early by foot, she stood in a corner, waiting for Korra. Pulling out her phone, she texted her.
I'm here, right outside near the parking lot.
Breathing out a chilly breath, she leans against the wall before scrolling through some emails. She figured Korra was on her way since she hadn't responded. A few short replies to some emails later, someone spoke to her.
"Hey beautiful, you come here often?"
Letting out a deep breath, Asami barely shifts her eyes slightly to see a guy. Not seeing much so she decides to ignore him. Many pesky flaunts later, another guy joins him. Ignoring them was still easy but by the time a crowd started forming, the crease on her eyebrows grew slightly.
I'm not in the mood for this… She was so tired of this shit and had enough. First, it was dad, and now this? Men are so predictable, I'm so tired of these simple-minded buffoons. Pushing a strand of hair before her ear, she was getting more irritated the closer those feeble men came into her personal space. However, the moment someone reached to grab her arm, she was about to rip them anew before a familiar arm extended into her field of vision.
"She's with me." The voice firmly says as she grabs onto the guy's wrist.
Asami looks up to see Korra's refreshing sight. Her hair was still damp and this time she had the wonderful pleasure of viewing those arms… spirits tank tops definitely had to be her favorite look on her. Either way, Korra had perfect timing and she couldn't help but smile. "Took you long enough."
Korra squeezes his arm tighter with a pissed-off face until he falters back. She flicks his hand off to the side before giving her friend a soft smile. "Sorry, it took me a second to park." She walks into Asami's space and pulls her in by the waist to show off their closeness. "Shall we?"
Sparring the guys one last look, Asami smiles deviously before grabbing onto Korra's arm flirtatiously. "Mmh, let's."
Pushing past the guys, Korra gave them one last death look before turning into Asami's ear. "Sorry about that, I was trying to get here asap."
Asami just dismisses her statement. "Don't worry about it, it happens all the time."
She frowns. "Still… that doesn't mean that it doesn't affect you nor does it mean it's alright. I swear men think we're some sort of prize to win. Spirits, I wish people would mind their own business… that world would be a lot better if they did."
Not sure how to respond, Asami just remained silent until she saw a short line at the entrance. She hums before commenting, "Hmm… this place seems popular." She notes and from what she could see, most of the patrons were in pairs of two.
"Oh yeah… right." Korra rubs the back of her neck sheepishly. "Sorry I know this place isn't exactly a five-star restaurant or anything like that but Kuvira, that ass, she dipped out on me. We usually come here all the time and I didn't want to waste the coupon…"
"The coupon?" She urges out of curiosity with a raise of a brow.
Korra coughs slightly before clearing her throat. "It's twenty percent off… for couples."
"Oh?" Asami raises an eyebrow before smirking slightly. "A couple huh."
Korra's eyes snapped open. "Don't get me wrong though! I usually come with Kuv and we pretend to be one for that discount, this is the best-grilled meat place around that's cheap and I couldn't miss out on their deal! And yes, before you ask, Kuvira and I are just friends. Been stuck with each other since the beginning of uni."
Softening her face, Asami couldn't help but giggle and tease. "I wasn't referring to Kuvira though."
With her cheeks turning red, Korra coughs again before pulling Asami over to a seat by her waist once the waiter gives them an okay. "A-Any who…" they sit down across each other at a small table before she waves down the waitress. "Granny! Can I get the usual?"
"Of course, Korra." The elder lady responds, "Anything else for your beautiful girlfriend?" Tensing up slightly, Korra looks over to see Asami staring at her with a smug smirk.
Feeling amused by this situation, Asami throws her a playful wink before purposely grabbing her forearm to play with it. She draws playful patterns on her arm before speaking up, "I'm fine with anything you choose love." She then throws her an air kiss to top it off.
Korra's lips thinned out in annoyance because she had a feeling Asami did that on purpose before she huffed. "And a bottle of peach soju and two beers please."
"Coming right up cuties."
Once the granny is out of sight, Korra turns to a shit-eating grin on Asami's face. She pouts before slapping her arm away. "You're enjoying this aren't you?"
Asami rests her elbow on the table before leaning on it with her chin. "Is it that obvious?"
Korra simply rolls her eyes. "Don't get too nasty now babe," she plays along and empathizes with a tease. "There are children here so keep your hands in your pockets!"
Babe. She almost whimpered at that. Truthfully speaking, the thought of a pen name from Korra was something that's been occupying her thoughts for quite some time now. But… speaking of which, her eyes glance over to the other patrons. She watches as a little girl and her brother fight over a piece of grilled meat before their parents cut the piece into half for the both of them. The sound of children laughing and the sound of sizzling meat made her feel somewhat out of place.
Was this what it felt like eating in public as a family?
Is that how parents looked at their children?
With such happiness as if they were their pride and joy?
It's been far too long since she's received anything warm from her father. Hideyuki was the brother she got along with the most since they were the closest in age. Ren was an annoying ass but still somewhat tolerable. As for Naofumi… Asami wasn't sure what their relationship was anymore. She only remembered him to be the most mature and strict of her three brothers and being the eldest, he probably had to act like that or else their father would be disappointed in them all. She was brought back from her thoughts when Korra nudged at her.
"What's wrong?" Korra asks before accepting the drinks from the waitress and pours one for Asami. "You okay?"
Shifting at that comment, Asami smiles softly. "What makes you think I'm not okay?" Pretty sure I had my poker face on.
She simply shrugs. "I don't know, your usual vibe seemed… off? I can't really explain it in words and it wouldn't make any sense in the first place but I feel like you're feeling uncomfortable or something. Sorry if I'm wrong though and you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." She takes a shot of soju, "We can just grill some meat and drink a beer or two if that's all you want."
Looks check. Personality check. Understanding my mood, check check check. Why is this woman so drop-dead gorgeous and wonderful? Asami sips the beer before clasping her hands together. "You know you're really something aren't you?"
Confused by that statement, Korra pours herself another shot of soju. "What do you mean?"
"Well… we've only known each other for what? Maybe a day in total at most yet you seem to understand me more than my friends."
"Hm… friends huh? Is that what you call your possi?"
Asami blinks in shock.
"Oh shit sorry, that's not what I meant. Let me start again," she clears her throat, "Not to sound rude or anything but I didn't think you'd have that many friends and before you cut me off, let me finish digging my grave. I just noticed that the people you hang around just change relatively frequently. I don't see many of the same faces around you."
They pause their conversation a bit since the waitress came with a few platters of meat. After she sets them down and their table is settled, Korra grabs the tongs and places the whole platter onto the grill. The sound of sizzling meat fills their surroundings and Korra adds in an additional plate of veggies on the side. She was the first to talk again.
"You sort of pegged me as the lone wolf type, no offense, but I mean that in the nicest way possible. You always seem… bored with those guys."
"You know…" Asami starts in a steady voice, "As mad I'd like to be, you're not wrong." She then watches as Korra flips the meat. "I say friends but honestly, the only people I'm close with are my brothers."
This time Korra hums. "You know, you're unexpectedly more honest than I thought you'd be."
"Mmh, you're telling me." She drinks a good amount of her glass of beer before setting it down and taking off her jacket. "You seem to have that effect on me. Something about you makes me want to… expose it all."
"Heh." Korra grins before preparing a wrap, "People do say I have that effect on them." Adding the finishing touch, she adds a piece of meat into the lettuce before rolling it up neatly. She then offers it to Asami with a smile. "Cheers to discounted meat and lonely times?"
With her lips pursed, Asami gives in. "Cheers."
xXx
"Thanks for the ride again, I appreciate it." Asami says as she got out of Korra's Jeep Wrangler.
"Of course, don't mention it. I had a really fun time today, thanks for hanging out with me Asami." Korra responds as she watches Asami walk around to her door.
Asami stops in front of her window before facing Korra. "No thank you, Korra… I was feeling a little down today but this cheered me up. I needed that, thanks."
Her classmate grins brightly in return. "No prob, my pleasure Asami. I'm glad we could become friends. Let me know if you ever want to hang out again, I'm usually not too busy."
That word stung Asami's heart more than she wanted it to. "Yeah…" she smiled solemnly, "friends…"
"Well, you should hurry in Asami. It's getting late, I'll see you tomorrow in class?"
"Yeah." She had to tear her eyes away from those clear blue eyes. "See you tomorrow."
Korra grins one last time before waving her off. Asami waves her farewell as well and once Korra drove off and was out of sight, she turned around to head inside her condo complex. She shivers at the chilly night breeze before realizing that she forgot her jacket in Korra's car.
"Shoot… forgot my jacket." She sighs before taking some steps forward. "Oh well, I'm basically home anyways."
However, before she makes it far, a familiar voice calls her name.
"Asami? What are you doing out this late?"
She turns to see her brother and raises a brow in return.
"I should ask you the same as well. What are you doing here Hide-nii? I wasn't expecting company."
He shrugs, "Something came up in the area and I was close by so I wanted to drop in to say hi." He raises a bag in his hand, "A client gave me some of those mochis you love." He walks up next to his sister before turning his head towards the street. "Who was that by the way? A friend?"
Asami let out a sigh, as expected as one of her brothers. Always nosing around and trying to find out who she hangs out with twenty-four seven. They always did this. Even if Hideyuki was the more sensible one, sometimes she didn't feel like sharing and just wanted to keep moments to herself.
"No one special."
He raises a brow at that.
"No one special huh. You're not the kind to let someone drop you off at your house though."
She clicked her tongue. Dang. "Don't worry, it's really not a big deal. I'm feeling a bit tired so I'm gonna head up first, thanks for the mochi." She grabs the bag from his hand, hoping he wouldn't chase after her for her weird attitude but, to her demise, he did.
"Wait a sec, Asami."
She sighs in frustration.
"Asami, you have to be careful okay. It's already been the fifth time since you've moved again this year. If that person is one of those kinds, we'll have to move you out again."
Grabbing her forehead in exhaustion, she was so sick of hearing these conversations again and again. "I know, I know. You of all people know that I know what it's like being stalked again and again and having to move every time!"
Her wonderful mood was ruined by the thought of anything that had to do with her oh-so 'privileged' life.
"Hell," Asami swings her hand up as she looked her brother in the eyes. "I've been used again and again for my wealth, fame, and power and people think I'm easy because I'm a woman and you know what? I think I'm old enough to understand people's intentions by now. I'm not a kid anymore. I'm tired of you babysitting me all the time! I can take care of my own business and I'm tired of you all nosing into my life all the time! So, thanks for spoiling my mood Hide-nii. If that's all, I'd like to head inside now."
Hideyuki was somewhat flabbergasted. "Wait, Asami. I'm sorry, that's not what I meant to imply," he pleads before grabbing her wrist to stop her temporarily. "I'm not trying to control who you make friends with… that's not what I meant, I just want you to be careful."
Her eyebrow twitches. And what's the difference in that? Her brothers were always overprotective of her. That was why Asami never got close with anyone in the first place. She had just about enough of his nosiness and just right when she was about to snap at him again, what she wasn't expecting was for Korra to lash out at him in her place.
"Let her go." Korra practically snarls while grabbing onto his wrist. "I don't know who you are but how dare you grab my friend's arm like that."
Asami should've said something. That this man was actually her brother but the look on his face was priceless and he looked just as shocked as she did. And the tone in Korra's voice… the way her face threatened him and the way her arm flexed… she should've said something. But… honestly speaking, she was far too turned on by how fucking hot Korra was acting.
Hideyuki was the first to break from the silence. "Ow—" he quickly released Asami's wrist, "Alright alright, no need to cut my circulation off…" he takes a step back while rubbing his wrist feeling astonished yet speechless just like his sister.
Korra steps in front of Asami defensively before looking him in the eyes. "If you dare grab her arm ever again, I'll snap your arm like a twig." She immediately turns and grabs a hold of Asami's hand before tugging her inside. "Come on. Let's go."
She didn't need to be told that twice. Barely sparing her poor brother a single glance, she smiles slyly as she follows in Korra's footsteps. However, frankly being honest, Asami was curious about where she was headed to. Korra didn't know what floor she lived on. She was even more amused when the elevator door swung open before she clicked a random floor button as if she knew which floor. Soon enough, she started mumbling to herself.
"Who does he think he is grabbing you like that! The nerve of that bastard…"
Asami snorted softly. How should I tell her? Her eyes finally trail down to what floor Korra clicked on. Since they were still holding hands, Asami ends up leaning forward with Korra in tow to click a higher level, seven instead of four. Realizing her mistake, Korra immediately blushes before fumbling back when she realizes that they were still holding hands.
"Oh I— shit, sorry my bad! I didn't mean to—" when she tried pulling back her hand, Asami simply held onto her hand more tightly.
"It's okay." She smiles softly, "I don't mind."
Korra's lips thinned out. She stood there awkwardly before eventually realizing that she was holding onto Asami's jacket. "Oh right here! You forgot your jacket so I came back to give it to you and then I saw that guy touching you and you looked kinda mad so I couldn't help myself and tried to help so sorry if that was unnecessary, I just thought that you could use some." She spits out in a mouthful.
Asami bit her lower lip. I should probably tell her, how will she react? "Thank you, you didn't have to come back so I appreciate it." She grabs a hold of her jacket but still refuses to let go of her hand. "As for that guy, my brother tends to annoy me often so sometimes getting back at him is amazing. His face was priceless so thanks again Korra."
"Your brother?" She blinked. "No… you are not telling me I just threatened your brother?!"
She simply shrugged with a remorseless smile. "Yup, you totally did."
"Haha…"
The elevator doors open on the fourth floor and Korra is frozen solid until the doors shut. As the machine continued to take them up, the look on Korra's face showed that she was definitely buffering. It wasn't until she blinked rapidly that she snapped over at Asami.
"Wait, should I be worried about a hitman coming after me?"
Asami looks over at her with a 'really' face. "No, Hide nii-sama is the more sensible one."
She blinks again. "The more… sensible one?"
"Yup. Now if that was Ren-nii, mmh… let's just say hands would've been thrown."
Laughing dryly, Korra huffed. "Well… whatever. If need be, I can handle myself pretty well."
One soft smile later, soon enough the elevator opened again and since it was Asami's floor, she led the way by taking the first step. With Korra at her arm, it doesn't take long until they're in front of her door. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, Asami faced Korra.
"Well, this is my stop."
"I see," Korra rubs the back of her neck until Asami lets go of her arm. "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow again?"
Asami reluctantly unlocks her door and steps inside. She would have loved to invite her in but what would be the next step? It was already getting late as it is so maybe another time? "Yeah, I guess so."
"Alright then, uh… g-good night Asami. I'll catch you tomorrow."
"Yeah, goodnight…"
They smiled at each other and Korra turned first but for some reason… Asami reached out to her. Korra turns as a result but what she wasn't expecting was for Asami to lean down closer to her face. Before she knew it, Asami gave her a one-handed hug and a firm kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you again, I'll catch you tomorrow."
One wink later, Asami closes the door to her condo leaving Korra to her own world.
What she misses was Korra blinking rapidly before she cupped her cheek. The side that Asami had kissed was burning and she felt her face grow warm before she mumbled to herself. "What was that for…?"
