AN: I cannot get a certain promo clip from 1x14 out of my head. I'm sure you know which one by now. This quick one-shot was inspired a bit by that clip. I hope you enjoy.

It had been a long, exhausting day, but wasn't a surprise for Kate. Most of her days had been long lately professionally and personally. In her personal life, Lucy still made it clear she needed space and wasn't ready to hear her out. As a Type A personality who hated feeling out of control, that was difficult for Kate, but she understood. Lucy was hurting and she was still processing where to go from there. In her professional life, Kate was finally making the career move she'd wanted for a while. All the long nights at the DIA, always being the bad cop, and taking the onslaught of resentment and animosity so the brass wouldn't, finally paid off. With her new position came some big changes and she'd spent all week trying to make the transition to her current position as easy as possible for the next person taking up the helm at the DIA. Being a DIA Officer was not easy. Neither was being a liaison for NCIS. She wasn't sure how her new position would change the latter, but was invested in making sure it didn't hinder the NCIS Team she came to respect and even enjoy working with.

The shower she took calmed her nerves a bit and helped her relax, but the very thought of having to figure out what to eat for dinner made her groan. After opting for a pair of boy shorts and her favorite Northwestern hooded sweater, she trudged to the kitchen and over to the refrigerator to see what she had to eat. A knock on her door made her frown. She wasn't sure who it was, but was not in the mood. The scowl she had on her face softened when she saw the last person she expected to be standing at her door that evening, Lucy.

"Hey, everything okay," she questioned and was caught off guard by the kind smile she was met with. It felt like ages since she saw that smile directed at her.

"I come bearing gifts, if you are willing to take them," said Lucy with a bottle of wine in one hand and bag of food in the other. Kate sighed in relief and grabbed the bag.

"That smells amazing and I'm starving. Come in." Lucy followed her into the kitchen and giggled at how quickly Kate opened the bag of food.

"Seriously, how did you know exactly what I needed today?" Lucy smiled proudly and shrugged.

"You looked a bit stressed when you dropped those forms off to Tennant and I know you love Chinese cuisine from that place around the corner. I also brought you this," she explained as she placed the bottle of wine on the counter. Kate's jaw dropped when she recognized the label.

"Wait, is that what I think it is," she asked with a laugh as she walked back over to Lucy and examined the bottle.

"I'm not a huge Pinot Gris drinker, but I know about the finer things in life."

"This is literally the most expensive and sought out Pinot in the world. Luce, it must have cost…"

"We are celebrating. Congrats, FBI Special Agent Whistler."

"How did you know…"

"Ernie told me, but I wish you would've. I know we haven't been on the best of terms lately, but it doesn't mean I don't care about you, Kate."

"It just became official. Technically, Ernie isn't even supposed to know. I don't even have my credentials yet." Lucy slowly nodded and gave a sad smile Kate couldn't quite comprehend.

"Well, you deserve all the happiness in the world and I hope you find that and everything else you want in life."

"Why does this sound like a goodbye?"

"It doesn't have to be a long, drawn out one. I get it and D.C. will be lucky to have you. I know we haven't really talked lately, but I'm going to miss you so…" She was surprised when Kate cut her off with a tender kiss. Lucy was more than happy to deepen it as she pulled her closer. Their lips meshed together in a kiss full of all the aching and yearning both felt for one another. Kate sighed when she saw the tears in Lucy's eyes and caressed her cheek with her thumb.

"Luce…"

"I just want one more night with you, if that's all we have."

"Lucy…"

"None of the other stuff matters. I was hurting and it was easier to make you hurt too than to deal with it, but I was punishing us both and now…"

"Do you really think I would just leave you like that and leave things between us like that?"

"You've been trying to tell me something for the past two weeks and I kept ignoring you or shutting you down, so I figured…" Kate cut her off again with a kiss before running a hand through the brunette's hair.

"You had every right to be hurt and upset with me, but that doesn't mean I would just leave and not tell you. Lucy, you are way too important to me for that…no matter how many times you yell at me," teased Kate. Lucy blushed as she giggled, but then frowned at the words.

"Okay, I'm confused. You are FBI now, right? You are heading to Washington to start a new position?"

"This is exactly why the DIA protects intel. Rumors tend to leave out important context that Ernie doesn't have. I'm going to be a FBI Special Agent here on the island. I will be stationed at the Honolulu Headquarters. It was something I made sure of before I even applied."

"You did?"

"Luce, you have to know how I feel about you. I know I hurt you and I am so sorry for that, but I still need you in my life. If you need more time, I can wait because…" It was Lucy's turn to cut her off with a kiss and Kate smiled against her lips.

"Because you're worth it," finished Kate.

"So, you are FBI now, but you aren't leaving?"

"Exactly, in fact, it works even better for us?"

"How?"

"It means no more conflicts of interest as your liaison. Plus, one of the things they liked about me was that I was willing to work closely with NCIS on cases."

"So, you aren't leaving," Lucy asked again with a hopeful smile. Kate gazed adoringly into her eyes and cupped her cheek.

"I'm not going anywhere," assured Kate. Lucy captured her lips in a passionate kiss and slipped her hands under Kate's sweater to caress her sides. Kate knew that kiss very well. Lucy was done talking and Kate was more than happy to oblige by unzipping Lucy's pants. The brunette quickly stripped out of her shoes, socks, and pants and moaned when Kate picked her up to place her on the counter. Lucy's legs wrapped around her and Kate stripped out of her sweater before peppering kisses on her neck.

"I missed you," whispered Kate as she unbuttoned Lucy's shirt and tossed it and her bra aside. Lucy cursed under her breath when Kate lavished kisses on her breasts and worked her nipples into hardened peaks. It was torturous pleasure, giving her something, but not everything she needed in the moment. Kate palmed and kneaded her breasts, taking her time to get reacquainted with them. The moment her fingers began to play with Lucy's panties, the brunette had enough.

"Are you really teasing me right now," challenged Lucy and Kate couldn't help but smile smugly.

"I'm enjoying myself," she said as she tugged the panties to the side to expose Lucy's wetness. Her fingers played with her folds and spread them as Lucy's hips bucked up.

"Kate," whimpered Lucy as she spread her legs and gripped the counter.

"You're right. It's been too long. I'll tease you more during the next round," she said before crashing their lips together. She yanked Lucy's panties off and tossed them aside before giving them both what they needed. The moment Kate's finger entered her, Lucy cried out in pleasure and gripped Kate's shoulders. Kate set her pace deep and slow at first, wanting to feel Lucy coating her fingers with arousal as she finally was inside of her again. Their kisses were frantic, urgent, and needy. Every movement felt like a release on its own. Weeks of tension, heartache, and fear they would never find their way back to each other dissipated. Kate could feel Lucy clenching, bucking, and taking her in more. She was close and Kate picked up her pace, letting Lucy's moans and whimpers of her name spur her on. She nuzzled her neck and whispered into her ear, urging her to come for her, to take her in, and it was Lucy's undoing. Her toes curled, fingers gripped the counter for support, and body arched into Kate as a powerful orgasm crashed into her. Kate held her close, feeling her pulse and clench around her fingers and her legs shake. They kissed languidly as she slowly came back down and melted into her. Lucy giggled when Kate cupped her backside, picked her up, and carried her toward the bedroom.

"What about dinner," Lucy teased with a seductive smile and Kate smirked.

"I'm about to have it," she assured as she placed her on the bed and focused on nothing else, but Lucy.

Lucy was the first to wake up the next morning and smiled as she thought about the previous night. They did eventually have dinner, but still spent it wrapped up in each other and talking again like they used to. It was something she loved about Kate and yet tended to be confused by. There were two very different sides to Kate Whistler. There was the side she had a feeling most people didn't know and the side that most people got. Whistler at work was focused, determined, structured, and an unmovable force to be reckoned with. The NCIS Team clashed with Whistler plenty of times. Kate was different, though. Kate was warm and kind and teased. She had a smile and laugh that could light up a room and make Lucy melt on the spot. They felt like two extremes and Lucy often got a mix, on mornings when they were getting ready for work and Kate was trying to focus on getting out the door or when she was at work, but wanted to talk about their relationship.

Lucy placed a tender kiss on Kate's shoulder and smiled when her eyes fluttered open. She had favorite moments with Kate, but she was in love with all of her. Kate snuggled up closer to her, nuzzling her neck, and closing her eyes again.

"Morning," she whispered. Lucy kissed her forehead as she held her in her arms.

"Morning." The serenity washed back over them as they dozed in and out of sleep for another hour. She was the first to fully wake up and glanced over at the clock on the nightstand.

"It's nine," she informed and Kate pushed her bottom lip out in a pout.

"It's Saturday. You know how I feel about Saturdays I have off."

"I do know how you feel about Saturdays you have off. I'm also hungry. We exerted a lot of energy last night."

"Fine, we can have breakfast, but you have to be naked the whole time," bargained Kate and she smiled against Lucy's skin as Lucy laughed.

"Can I at least put on one of your robes?"

"No," giggled Kate. Lucy rolled on top of her and smiled adoringly at the blonde. She loved Kate on a lazy morning, playful and sleepy.

"What if I wear your hoodie instead," she bargained, knowing how much Kate loved her in her clothes.

"And only my hoodie?"

"Only your hoodie." She laughed as Kate sat up.

"Alright, let's have breakfast," she announced as Lucy shook with mirth.

"It's a good thing you are leaving the DIA. I think I could get all types of classified information from you if I was wearing nothing but your hoodie."

"As my girlfriend, you would know better than to put me in such a compromising position," teased Kate. She blushed when she caught her mistake and Lucy bit her lip teasingly.

"I…" Lucy placed a finger to Kate's lips.

"Nope, don't ruin this moment by backtracking or trying to explain it away," said Lucy as she straddled Kate's lap. She gazed lovingly into her eyes and smiled.

"I'm very happy to be your girlfriend, Kate."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, especially since I've almost let it slip twice and should probably just admit out loud how I feel. I'm sort of, maybe, completely in love with you. When I thought you were leaving…I never want to feel that again. It hurt more than I ever thought possible," confessed Lucy as tears filled her eyes. Kate kissed her cheeks.

"I love you so much, Lucy, and I meant what I said. I'm not going anywhere," she vowed. Lucy tenderly kissed her and sighed in relief.

"Good, now, my sexy girlfriend, do your job and feed me." Kate guffawed.

"That's my job? Why isn't that your job?"

"Because it's your fault I'm starving."

"The shower sex was your idea…both times," teased Kate.

"And the strap was yours," Lucy teased back before biting her lip with a smug smile. Kate's jaw dropped.

"I tell you I love you and you attack me with facts?" Lucy laughed and pulled her out of bed.

"I want pancakes," informed Lucy as they headed into the kitchen. Kate wanted to tease and challenge her, but as Lucy picked up her girlfriend's hooded sweater and put it on, Kate couldn't find the functioning brain cells to do so. She would never admit it out loud, even if she already knew, but Kate would give Lucy anything she wanted, especially in that hooded sweater.

Their weekend went by faster than they wanted, mainly because they spent it in their bubble. They never left Kate's apartment and ended up having food delivered twice because of it. Monday morning arrived sooner than they would have liked, but Lucy smiled as she prepared coffee for them and made Kate a light breakfast. She'd left a few outfits over a while ago and was able to get dressed there. A part of her never had the heart to come get them because she'd hoped she would need them there soon enough. The familiar clicking of heels caught her attention and her eyes widened when she saw Kate looking far more like a special agent than a DIA officer. Her mind roamed and wondered about the outfits she would get to see her in now that she would be out in the field.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer," teased Kate as she entered the kitchen. Lucy perked up at the idea.

"Would you ever let me take pics of you? Maybe in the bedroom?"

"Sorry, but that's one fantasy you're going to have to keep in your head. I know too much about intel leaks and our pesky phones. If you let me upgrade your phone to a more secure one, though, I may reconsider at least some seductive photos." Lucy's jaw dropped.

"Oh really?"

"Really," teased Kate with a bright grin before kissing her girlfriend.

"It shouldn't be that long of a day for me, just getting some credentials and paperwork taken care of. Dinner tonight?"

"I hope so, but we'll have to see where the day goes. I'm worried about Tennant. They're investigating her for what went down and she's going in for questioning. Jesse texted me. He's in charge for the time being, so I have no clue when I'll be done. But, I want to see you," she explained before kissing her again.

"I can check on her and where things might be headed, if you want?"

"You would do that?"

"Of course, I will be close by anyways and Tennant didn't do anything wrong. I have a contact who may know more about who is in charge of the questioning. I'll see what I can find out." She was surprised when Lucy captured her lips in a passionate kiss that made her knees go weak. She melted into her girlfriend and moaned.

"What was that for?"

"I just love you." Kate sighed happily as she heard the words again. She wasn't sure she would ever get tired of hearing them.

"I love you too. I'll text you if I find out anything."

"Text me even if you don't. You know I like to hear from my girl throughout the day. It makes things go by faster." Kate beamed with happiness and nodded.

"Same, see you later and be safe."

"You too, FBI Special Agent Whistler." Kate kissed her one more time before heading for the door. She couldn't stop smiling as she thought about their amazing weekend and what she hoped to be one of many. Things were finally looking up again in her life. She was back with the woman she loved, was starting her new position with the FBI, and finally felt like her life was back on track. Now, all she needed to do was make sure everything went well for Tennant.

AN: FBI Special Agent Whistler makes me heart swoon and headcanon thrive. I can't wait to learn more about her new position in the next few episodes and hopefully we get to see her in action. Also, is this a way for me to explain why Whistler was so cheerful when she saw Tennant and they interacted? Maybe...sorry Tenstler fans. This is definitely my Kacy spin on what went down lol. What did you think?
