Ch 7: Friendly Fire
The sound of a tennis ball hitting the racket sounds off before it ricochets off the latex rubber floor. Quickly after, footsteps sprinting across the court follow with another loud snap. This time, however, a loud grunt is let out before more pivoting and running follows. It wasn't until after several more huffs sound off that finally one of the two landed the winning score.
"Yes!"
"Argh! Dammit, you lucky bastard…"
"Hah! As if! It's just my skills, see it and weep! You owe me coffee now sucker~"
"Shut it Kuv! You're lucky I haven't been doing so hot these days."
Kuvira tapped her racket on her shoulder. "And that's why we're here in the first place, change of pace but what can I say? Oh wait, I can say that I'm victorrrious~" she sings in a smug tone.
With an unenthusiastic voice, Korra swatted her hand. "Yeah yeah, just you wait, when I'm out of my funk, you're going to buy me all the drinks on the menu!"
"Sure I am, sureeeee." Picking up her stuff, Kuvira started walking towards the locker. She turns her head to face her friend before asking, "You wanna study at the cafe while we're at it? It's about time we stop procrastinating since midterms are coming up around the corner."
Korra lugged her bag across her shoulder with a tired grunt. "Yeah, sounds good. Calculus aside, some of my classes are kind of kicking my ass. There are so many lab reports I gotta catch up on…"
The two of them finally made it in front of the locker rooms. Kuvira put down her equipment first. "Alright sounds good, we should shower quickly and head out. I have some architecture write-ups to finish up too… as much as I'd like to go to my aerial dancing theater, I've procrastinated too long."
Stripping down to her bare skin, Korra raises an eyebrow. "Too long ey… when's it due?"
Kuvira finishes taking off her bra, leaving her just in her camouflage panties. She had a blank expression before looking off to the side. "Oh, you know…today…"
Korra grabs her shampoo and soap. "Today as in...?"
"Twelve."
"Twelve…?"
"P.M."
"PM!" Her eyes popped open at that. "That's like—" she peeked at her watch, "less than two hours from now!"
"And that's why I wanna hurry."
Korra slaps her face. "This should be fun…"
xXx
Scratching her head, Kuvira was furiously typing away, spamming her keyboard as if her life depended on it. She was saving the table while Korra got them their drinks. Shortly enough, Korra comes back with two drinks in hand and two small bags of pastries. She plops down across from her on the table before organizing her school work as well.
"Gotchu your matcha frappe and an egg, cheese, and sausage muffin."
"Thanks." Kuvira shortly responds with her eyebrows creased and lips frowning. She quickly scratches her head before taking a sip off her drink and typing away.
Korra simply shrugs before taking a bite of her sandwich and following in her steps. At times like these, she felt strangely at ease. Her mind was solely focused on her work and there weren't any distractions. No drama. No distractions. No concerns about being ghosted for no reason that she is aware of. It was nice. It's been a while since she immersed herself in her studies.
She didn't have to think about her situation with Asami and only had to worry about passing her classes, just how she liked it at the beginning of her school career. It was peaceful and it kept her busy. Things made sense with hard work and her efforts always paid off. Time flies by just like that and it wasn't until her phone began buzzing that got her attention. She peeks at her phone screen before seeing who it was.
Kai the GUY (11:28): hey sis, is there anything to eat at home?
She picked up her phone before typing back:
Sorry nothing much in the fridge, I left early in the morning to play tennis with Kuv so why don't u get what u want? U hav enough money?
She waits a moment for him to text back.
Kai the GUY (11:28): umm maybe enough for one serving? Did u want me to grab u something while i'm at it to?
Kai the GUY (11:28): kinda craving water tribe grub
She thought about it for a second before deciding.
Yeah sure, I'll send u some money then.
Kai the GUY (11:29): sounds good, I'll swing by Kwong's. Ur usual sound good?
Korra's face softens up with a small grin.
Yes plz~
Kai the GUY (11:29): roger that~
Setting down her phone, Korra decides to take a short break. She stretches out tall with a satisfied groan before taking a glance at Kuvira. With about thirty minutes on the clock, she looks as rushed as ever which was proven by the fact that she hardly drank her drink or consumed her sandwich. Seeing that she was in the zone, Korra decided not to bother her and stealthy went to the bathroom before returning to her seat.
Deciding to browse through her phone, she leans back on her chair before mindlessly scrolling through her feed. Of course… It didn't take long for her to stumble upon Asami's social media. It looked the same, untouched from her latest post which was made more than a month ago. Korra felt her heart waver once again. She honestly did miss the woman… if by some miracle, Asami came back, Korra promised herself that she would treat her normally. She would continue to be her friend and give her any support she would need if desired. She was fine being her friend so long as she could continue to talk to her.
It has been far too long since she has had this many friends that she wanted to keep in her life aside from her immediate family and Kai's girlfriend, Jinora's family. Not to mention Kuvira as well surprisingly enough. Asami was the first one who came naturally despite her efforts to remain a low-key student at RCU. With that said, Korra didn't regret getting involved with such a 'high-status' friend on campus. Asami never once forced Korra to join her in her activities and she respected her decisions and boundaries. If Korra needed time to study, Asami wouldn't bug her till late at night or the next day.
It was an understatement that they got along well and Korra would even say she's willing to take a bullet for her if needed, or, even if by some chance, if someone bugging Asami needed a beating, she'd be happy to do it. After all… she did technically have political immunity being the southern's chief daughter. Not like she would abuse that fact of course *cough cough* but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. That was Korra's motto after all.
Letting out a sigh, Korra picks up her pencil before twirling it in her hand. She thought back to the reason why she left the south. It all took place back about three years ago… Korra's situation was similar to Asami's. She was popular, the top of her class, and desired to be friends with all. Of course, being the foolish immature teen she was, she consumed all of that popularity that it got to her head.
She was arrogant.
She was cocky.
She was foolish.
It sadly only took one incident in the Fire Nation to turn the tides and ruin her self-confidence, breaking her heart into pieces which she was forced to slowly pick back up over the years.
There was this friend that she liked more than just that. A woman who Korra could imagine spending the rest of her life with. However, it turns out, she only played Korra. She fooled her. She led her on. She played with her emotions and chewed them up only to spit them back out. To top that all off, she suffered a pretty bad injury and was forced to recuperate over a long period of time. Thankfully, she had made a full recovery and was good as new. Sadly… despite her comeback, her heart had been another story.
Forget about the embarrassment and shame she felt that day. She got over it. But, the trauma she felt from that day was engraved in her heart and was still like a fresh wound that has yet to clot. It scared her fragile heart and that was why Korra was afraid to move past the friendship step. And no matter how much she may have wanted to relieve some sexual desires, she was too afraid to date someone only to be cast aside like some afterthought. She was afraid. She didn't want that to happen with Asami.
Friendship lasted longer than relationships.
Relationships were easily broken as seen in marriage and high divorce rates.
So… why cross that line in the first place if it was bound to fail? Korra didn't want to belong to that ever-growing statistic. Of course, in her mind, she knew that wasn't the case for most but that didn't appease her fears. Her confusing situation with Asami turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It gave her a chance to reflect on her feelings and come to a decision that it wouldn't work out between them.
Asami deserves someone better than her.
Someone who would be willing to offer all of their heart to her.
Someone that wasn't her.
Letting out a deep sigh, Korra slumps down onto the table before randomly confessing. "I don't ever want to date someone…"
"I thought you liked Asami though?"
Korra wasn't expecting a response so she was slightly surprised by Kuvira's voice. She had been in the zone for her paper but now that Korra gave her a second look, she was no longer violently typing. When Kuvira notices her dilemma, she shrugs and answers Korra's question before she could ask.
"Just finished so let's hope for the best."
With her lips parting into a small 'o' she nods slightly before shifting in her seat kicking out her feet beneath the table. She then rolls her ankle before making eye contact with Kuvira and calmly states:
"I do like her but… I would rather stay friends with her, you know?" Korra confesses to Kuvira but also half to herself. "I honestly don't want nor need any more than that. Believe it not or not, I really am content with our relationship. Friendships can last over lifetimes but dating never turns out the way you hope."
Tapping her finger on the table, Kuvira studied Korra before deciding to leave it at that and not push for answers. "Alright… not sure what's up with you all of a sudden but I won't push for answers but do let me say this, the heart goes where it wants." She then leans back in her chair and crosses her arms behind her head. "Well either way, whatever ends up happening, I got your back."
"..."
Korra wasn't sure what to say. After a second, she takes a breath before facing her.
"Thanks… you want to go paintball shooting?"
Kuvira raises a brow at that. "What happened to studying?"
She looks down at her stack of papers.
"Okay, maybe after then. A late-night showdown sounds good…?"
Her friend raises a brow at that. "It's a bet for tomorrow's coffee and breakfast?"
Korra gives her a small grin, "Deal."
xXx
Pop after pop, paint pellets crash against the wooden walls again after again. Only two women were inside, shuffling around in the pit dance around exchanging a barrage of rounds at another. Not after long, Korra's face dropped and she took a dive behind a crate box while shouting out loud.
"Shit!" She screams before crawling around on the floor and hiding behind the crate to regain her composure.
Kuvira lets out a muffled yet happy chortle beneath her headgear. "Is that all you got Avatar!"
With a pained groan, Korra pops off her mask for a hot second to take a look at her paintball gun. She glared at it with an annoyed pout, coming to the conclusion that it was jammed. Letting out a sigh, she sets it down and wipes her sweat before pulling out her pistol. She then puts back on her mask before screaming back:
"You wish dictator!"
With her gun held up to her chest, Korra peaks past the wall before quickly ducking backwards when Kuvira opens fire at her. She takes a few calming breaths before applying pressure on the balls of her feet and leaped forward. Sprinting across the court, she manages to dodge Kuvira's paint pellets before sliding to safety behind another wall.
"What happened to your rifle Avatar! Did you give up!"
"In your dreams!" She shouts back, "I don't need it to take your ass down!"
Kuvira dashes across the court as well and Korra took that opportunity to shoot at her. Her gun pops in a short interval, bouncing up and down from the ricochet. To her dismay, Kuvira dodges them all as she slides into safety behind a craft.
"Tch," Korra clicks her tongue before Kuvira shouts back.
"You're gonna have to try harder than that! Your pistol ain't got nothing on my rifle!"
Grumbling to herself, Korra was somewhat salty. "It's not my fault it got jammed…"
"What was that!?"
"Nothing! Just ready your wallet cause I'm looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!"
"Hah! In your dreams!"
Readjusting her grip, Korra leans out before charging forward. When she was close enough, she began shooting the moment Kuvira popped her head out. She ended up emptying her cartridge before narrowly ducking behind a crate. She quickly pulls out her refills before loading her pistol. As she did so, she could hear Kuvira shuffling around.
"I'mmm gonna getcha~ watch your back." She sings all smug and cocky.
Finishing just in time, Korra readied herself. "Not if I get you first!" There was a tense moment of silence before Korra ducked out from her spot. Her friend immediately shoots at her and she manages to return some shots before getting hit on the arm.
"Ah— fuck."
Kuvira laughs. "You can quit now before I wipe the floor with you!"
"As if!" She shouts back before looking at her surroundings. Looking at where the path led, she quickly grins before covertly making her way over. Meanwhile, Kuvira sticks her head out, assessing the situation before out of nowhere, Korra pops out on her side.
"What the— how'd you—"
She had a panicked face while Korra grinned brightly before she pulled the trigger. Kuvira immediately grunts in pain from being shot on the shoulder before shooting past her pain at Korra. They tussled around, landing hits back and forth before finally Korra huffs and jumps off to the side. She aims for Kuvira's chest and shoots some last hits before dropping to the floor with a pained huff.
"OOF—"
Kuvira had done the same until she took a painful shot and fell down to the floor. "AH FUCK! Right in the ass urgh…" she grumbles as she rubs her behind. "Oh come on… that bruise is gonna suck."
Meanwhile, Korra was laughing as she lay there dumbfounded. "I shot you in the ass!" She cracks up some more, "Told you I could take your ass down with a pistol!"
"Oh shut it!" Kuvira groans before setting down her rifle and taking off her headgear. Letting out a satisfied huff, she rolls over onto her side. "You wanna call it quits?"
As much as she would've liked to continue, Korra could feel the heavy amount of sweat dripping down her neck and her wounds were beginning to swell up in a raging fit.
"Yeah…" she took some much-needed breaths before huffing out, "Sounds good."
Slamming the locker room shut, Korra winces from the stinging sensation. "Ow ow ow…" she carefully puts on her sports bra as if her arm was broken with an aching back. "I got twenty-five, you?"
"Damn." Kuvira clicks her tongue as she bounced up and down, struggling to hop into her jeans. "Should've worn sweats…"
Seeing that her question was ignored, Korra has a sly look. "What was that? Didn't hear you."
Finally pulling up one leg sleeve, Kuvira grunts before grumbling. "Twenty-seven…"
"What? Can't hear you!" Korra teases before bringing up her hand to brush away some hair and immediately regrets it thanks to the bruise on her inner bicep.
With a silent yelp, Kuvira fell down onto the bench. She held in painful a squeal before annoyingly yanking the last sleeve up on her other leg. "I said… twenty-seven."
"Heh, looks like you owe me coffee and breakfast then." Pleased by her victory, Korra grunts a bit before hopping into her sweat pants. Once secured at her hip line, she throws a hoodie over her head. "You wanna get some boba?"
Kuvira finishes slipping on her long-sleeve before accidentally bumping into the locker. Holding her tongue yet again, she limped over and grabbed her bag. "Remind me why we used the .68 caliber instead of .48?"
"Uuh…" Korra carefully swung her bag over her good shoulder. "Go big or go home?"
"True… but yeah sure, I'm down for boba."
The two of them finally walked out of the paintball facility feeling accomplished. Banzai for the connections, as in money, to rent out an entire center for themselves. Long live the Beifongs and long live the southern water tribe! Well… Kuvira paid for the majority of it but it was a win-win since they both let out steam and vented out stress. They had extra fun compared to 'normal' sports like tennis or soccer. It was just more… savage and crude which really was a healthy outlet from time to time.
They hopped into Kuvira's humvee and yes she had a humvee, her typical dictator tendencies Korra would call it, before they made their way downtown. By the time they rolled into the parking lot, they were already bringing themselves some unwanted attention thanks to their ride.
However, to top that off, since they had just had an excellent workout, they had a wondrous glow to them as they made their way to the door. Looking as hot as they could, the two of them waltzed into the Jasmine Dragon, immediately bringing attention to themselves. All eyes were on them whether they could help themselves or not. They paused in front of the menu before heading to the registers.
Kuvira had to suppress the urge of rubbing her ass from the shot she took before humming to herself. "Should I get the Metal Brew?"
Korra turns to her with a disturbed face. "That's so strong though, more like…" she looks at the time on her phone. "It's almost ten."
Her friend only shrugs in response. "Caffeine is for weaklings, besides, that stuff doesn't work on me. What are you getting?"
Puffing out her chest for some reason, Korra puckered her lips. "One of my usuals, the Appa Blend."
"Hmmmm, boring. You're so basic I swear."
"Hey hey hey, sticking to the basics and what's good is everything alright!" Korra defends before continuing on. "Besides, that stuff is goodddd. I don't know what they do to it but it's like crack."
"Yeah yeah, alright I've decided, lets go order."
"Whatcha getting then?" Korra asks while nodding at the cashier as a greeting.
Kuvira swats her hand. "I'll have a Colossus Titanium."
Korra immediately turns her head and gives her a deadpanned look. "And you're calling me basic?"
"Whatever, speak now or you're buying your own drink."
Blinking a few times, Korra has a flashback back to the day she hung out with Asami. She remembered their little argument about deciding who's paying for what that actually made her heart twinge a little. Her lips parted slightly and she smiled sadly before speaking up. "One Appa Blend please."
"Alright, that'll be a thousand yuans please."
Kuvira paid before they stood off to the side and waited for their drinks. When they are settled, Kuvira starts a random tangent while Korra spaced out.
"So… hear me out, I started this new regime that is kicking my ass and thought you wanted to join. It's pretty simple. You just got to…"
Thinking back to the time they had their date, Korra remembered the fun they had talking about random topics. She wasn't one to talk that much with new people that much but when she was with Asami, words just flowed out her mouth like a waterfall. They really did click and no matter how many times she thought about it, she never grew tired of it.
Part of her wondered if Asami thought the same way but it wasn't as if she'd get the answer anytime soon or ever even. Maybe if someday in the future she had the guts, she would track Asami down and ask her but who knows what the future will unfold. Getting day by day was already hard enough as it was. For once, Korra felt like she was running up a wall. The more memes she sent, the less she had to offer in this one-sided conversation. There were oh so many jokes, gifs, and video clips that she could send without being redundant. However, before her thoughts wandered much farther, Kuvira's pissed-off voice woke her up from her trance.
"The fuck you just say?"
Blinking once, Korra looks in the direction her friend was looking at. Ah. She could assume what may have happened but hopefully she was wrong.
"I was just wondering if we could have a little fun somewhere more… quiet. Just the two of us."
Kuvira scoffs before going with their 'usual outdoor protocol.' She pulls Korra in by wrapping her arm around her shoulder before nodding her head upwards. "Sorry pal but we're together."
Not thinking too much about it, Korra watches as the situation unfolded.
"Even better then, you and your friend are invited. I guarantee you we'll all have some fun, you'll enjoy my bod for sure"
Well, that struck more than just one nerve.
Korra felt Kuvira's arm twitch before she basically growled out, "You little piece of shit— you and me, outside—"
At this point, Korra finally thinks she should step in about now. She grabs her friend's arm and stops her before looking towards the guy. "Sorry pal. I'm just too gay as fuck and just the sight of your face is making me want to hurl so it's a hard pass for me. And no, don't even bother, it's not about finding the right dick and even if I could, it ain't yours."
Looks like that didn't do much to stump his ego.
"Hmfp, if you just saw how big I am…" he gestures with his hand, forming a large cylinder of air, presumably showing off his size. "I'm sure you'd change your mind."
Rolling her eyes, Korra tilts her head. "Sure… but with the way I play around, I doubt you'd have one by the time we're done." She deadpans in a cold voice. "You see…" she casually takes a step forward before biting down aggressively. "I like to bite but rather than bite… I tear." This time she turns slightly to grab Kuvira's shirt before holding it at the arm sleeve area, she then effortlessly rips the fabric into pieces. Afterwards, she licks her lips slowly before cockily smirking in his face. "Just like that."
Korra heard Kuvira's subtle groan of annoyance, likely thanks to the new tear in her shirt, before hearing the guy gasp in shock. She really didn't feel like dealing with this piece of shit and dirtying her hands so this was one of the funner and more aggressive ways to turn them down without breaking into a fight. It usually worked ninety percent of the time but as for the ten percent. Let's just say it wasn't pretty. Now the fun part was, what percentile did he fall under?
It looked as if he was questioning his so-called 'masculinity' and it wasn't long until he cracked, unable to have a good response. "Chill chill, I was just joking baby girl…" There was something behind his tone of voice as he walked away with an annoyed tsk. "I'll show them…"
Kuvira and Korra watched him walk away before the bobarista shakingly said, "Your teas are ready…"
The two of them give each other a look before reaching for the drinks together and responding at the same time. "Thanks."
After they each grabbed their own straws, they stabbed the top before making their way to the corner and sat down at the countertop. Kuvira was the first to speak in their awkward silence but first, smacks Korra's arm with a loud slap.
"This one of my newer long sleeves you ass. You just had to play cocky dom even though we could've easily whipped him. He was easy." She states confidently with a flick of her hand.
Korra throws her a remorseful wink while slapping her hands together in remorse. "Sorry I'll buy you a new one!"
"Sure you will… sure you will." Rolling her eyes, Kuvira sips on her drink.
"Come on I swear! Pleaseee, don't be mad. I just… had some thoughts in my mind so I vented a little violently… not with my hands though since I don't want to go to jail."
Rolling her eyes yet again, they both knew that was a lie before Kuvira just slurps her drink with an aggressive slurp. "Whatever you little shit." She huffs in an annoyed tone, embracing that slight breeze on her shoulder where a fresh hole had been made. "I'll be expecting new packages at my house by tomorrow night."
"Packages?!" Korra exasperates at the plural nuance. "More like tomorrow night?! Aww come on, at least give me till the weekend!"
"Give me three and we call it a deal."
"Three?! It's just a sweater!"
She shot her a sharp glare. "Three or no deal."
Korra flinched at that. "That's…" she thought about tomorrow's schedule and it was jam-packed with assignments and studying. "F-Fine… deal…"
Smirking slightly, Kuvira clenched her fist in victory. "Hell yeah."
"…"
"…"
Sighing softly, Korra slurps her drink. "Fun…"
With their conversation finally settled, Korra pulls out her phone before looking at her messages, specifically Asami's message list. She stares at the newly changed contact name: 'Ghost' before staring at the long and one-sided conversation. Over the past few days, the number of messages she sent gradually became less and less.
She felt bad for the lack of it.
She really did.
However, it was tough to continually send messages without sounding redundant or bland. It was hard trying to sound happy or normal in every message. However, most importantly, it was hard not receiving any messages back. Every time she sent a message, she hoped that maybe, just maybe today was the day that Asami would text back. She didn't have to respond with a long message or anything. Just a single word, even a simple 'hi' or thumbs up would just do.
Anything that would let her know that she was alive.
That… that she was okay.
As unlikely as that latter option would be, Korra wanted to believe that even if Asami never responded, she'd be okay. If losing a friend meant that she would be alive and well, Korra would be fine with that. Even if it ached her heart and she was bitter with that outcome, she had to believe that. She had to. Otherwise, how else would she be able to move on with her feelings?
It needed to stop.
xXx
It hadn't been long since the two of them exited the boba shop. They had literally turned the corner to the parking lot before being stopped by a familiar voice and unwanted face.
"You're kidding me." Korra deadpans with an annoyed face.
Kuvira was equally flabbergasted. "…"
"These are the bitches that fucked with me bro!" The guy from earlier expresses this to his so-called brother.
"Heh, they're not too bad ey. Looks like we'll have some fun tonight." The brother, aka, some big ass dude, practically celebrates for nothing.
Sighing again, Korra grabs her forehead in disbelief. "This just ain't my night now is it…"
"You're telling me." Kuvira shots back. "First I get shot in the ass, then you rip my sweater, and now this? I knew we should've handled it outside… great, Beifong is gonna kill me." She then cracks her neck left and right in preparation. "Your debt just grew. Make it five and we'll call it even."
As much as Korra would've loved retorting that, she couldn't. "Fine… deal."
The two men start getting closer before the 'bro' whistles. Out of nowhere, another group of men appeared out of the blue and the two of them groaned in unison.
"You're kidding."
Korra started whining. "This is gonna be such a long night."
The group of men was laughing like the pigs until Kuvira raised her hand and waved them to come forward. "Alright… let's get this over with."
Korra readied herself too. "Who's first?"
One of the guys lunged and Korra had a blank face before mindlessly redirecting a wide punch. She then punches him aside like a joke which enrages him. He yells before throwing some more underwhelming punches which Korra easily doges before tripping him over. He crashes against the floor before she turns to face some other random guy and smacks his hand away before jabbing him in the throat. He grabs his neck in pain before she kicks him in the balls and pivots to the next guy. She sighs softly before jogging towards another thug and ducking his punch. Soon after she palm strikes his chin, getting him to grunt in pain. From what she could tell, all these fools were really weak. The only advantage they had was their number but that didn't mean shit against an experienced fighter let alone two.
Kuvira was equally bored as her but, rather than running around and going after the guys, she stood in place and fended them off. After all, it hurt to walk thanks to the paintball bullet she took to the ass. She wasn't about to run around unless needed. She catches a punch before quickly redirecting his arm, pulling him into an arm lock, making him shout in pain. She quickly snaps his shoulder before taking a soft step backward. Another guy comes at her and she sighs at the persistence.
"You know… persistent guys aren't popular."
With an annoyed face, she punches him straight in the face before hearing distant police sirens.
"Well shit… just great."
"Shit! It's the police! Run!"
"Oh no you don't—" Kuvira grabs one of them by the collar before yanking him back. "You gotta pay for wasting my time!"
He yelps in pain as she brings him down to his knees. Most of the thugs run in fear however, there one of them growls in irrationality. "You bitch…" pulling out a knife from his pocket, he flips open the blade before rushing towards Kuvira.
Having noticed this from her peripheral vision, Korra perks up before rushing towards her friend's side. "Kuvira watch out!"
"Huh?" Turning her head, Kuvira is face to face with this thug. "Oh shit—"
He collides into Kuvira and she grits her teeth in annoyance before Korra rushes over and pulls him into a headlock from behind. With a panicked voice, she yanks him off before shouting. "You good!?"
Looking somewhat pale, Kuvira pulls out a knife from under her armpit. She huffed in shock before dropping the damned knife. "Shit…" her arm starts dripping blood and she checks her wound before glaring at the guy. "I'm gonna kill him."
"Blood? You're bleeding?! Shit, are you okay—whoa!" Korra ducks to the side from Kuvira's blood-hungry punch with the guy in her arms. She narrowly dodges again before trying to calm her down. "Kuv—" she steps back, "don't—" grunting she shoves the guy, who is now shaking in fear, out of the way and tosses him aside before catching her friend's punch. "—kill him!"
Kuvira was fuming when practically growled, "Let. Me. Go. That little shit's gonna pay!"
"Oh come on!" They end up exchanging a short series of blows and punches before Korra huffs out. "We should stop the bleeding!"
"After he's dead!" She shouts back.
"Kuvira!" Being yanked by the arm, Korra's eyes widened before she found herself in the air. "Oh shi—" letting out a loud grunt, she slams onto the floor before watching Kuvira walk towards the guy. Soon enough, she was right at his face as she cracked her knuckles.
"You fucking piece of shit!" Grabbing ahold of the guy, Kuvira drops him to the floor. She then grabs him by the collar of his shirt before punching the living shit out of him.
"Fuck—" Korra groans in pain, having been winded, before she coughed out, "Ku—Kuvira!" Trying to catch her lost breath, she coughs again before attempting to stand up when all of the sudden, she hears a familiar yet unfamiliar voice.
"K-Korra…?"
Blinking rapidly as she lies on the floor, Korra turns towards the source of that voice. She couldn't believe her eyes and swore that her upside-down vision was playing tricks on her. "What the…" not believing her eyes, she blinks furiously again. "A…Asami…?"
Grunting as Korra forces herself to flip around, she takes in that familiar yet so unfamiliar face. "You're…here? You're really here?" Her face brightened up with an earnest smile, forgetting about Kuvira's attempt at murder. "You're… you're not a ghost."
