AN: le gasp! Me... posting twice in a day?!

Ahem, but tis… the end. Thank you all so much for sticking around this long! X3 I hope you all enjoyed the fic! :333 I am low-key proud of myself for finally writing a 100k fic TTmTT

I DID IT! I MADE IT! XDDDDD

I have finally achieved a fanfic writer's unofficial badge LMAO. Hah… this was such a long ride. Took me more than half a year to write. Boy oh boy… "long fics" to me is like a 40~50k word fic. That's a good amount for me because, le gasp, ironically enough, I HATE reading LMAO. You don't know how much I dreaded reading my drafts for this DX

Anyways… I hope you enjoy the finale (Japanese in bold again! :V). Maybe I'll write some one-shot for this in the future. Maybe I won't *shrugs* there are too many projects in my mind that I wanna write but don't have the time or motivation for DX

And a quick honorable shoutout to my new friendo Zena for the idea exchanges and for reading my horrid first drafts (and my other discord fwends to :3)

Now enough from me… plz enjoy the last chapter =)

Ch 22: It's a bet.

Slouching on her desk, Asami had a playful smile on her face as she engaged in a heated text. Her fingers were tapping away at her phone faster than she would respond to any type of email. There was no urgency of course… she just had more of a motive to contact someone. Namely her beloved girlfriend.

Korra, change my name!

Ocean Eyes (10:32): :P

Ocean Eyes (10:32): I don't want toooo

Ughh… babe, come on really? Of all the names you choose, u go with dino bby! Come on!

Ocean Eyes (10:32): but u hav a dino baby on u!

Ocean Eyes (10:33): and ur my baby to! :3

Ocean Eyes (10:33): aka… my dino bby

Ocean Eyes (10:33): :3

Korra…

Ocean Eyes (10:33): yes bby?

Don't make me snatch ur phone… I know where u live!

Ocean Eyes (10:33): hahahaha

Ocean Eyes (10:33): and so do I!

What's that even supposed to mean?

Ocean Eyes (10:33): beats me

U dork.

Her phone started ringing to her dismay.

Sorry babe, my brother's calling. I'll get back to u

Ocean Eyes (10:34): aww… okay… ttyl

Yeah ttyl, love you~

She then picks up the phone call before answering.

"Hello?"

"Hey, have you eaten yet?"

Asami glanced at the time before rolling her eyes. "I had breakfast about two hours ago."

"And lunch?"

"Still too early."

"Right. Anyways… were you free? I got some news to break to you."

She groaned before responding. "That can't be good."

She could hear him laughing softly. "Well…"

One long explanation later, Asami was sprawled out on her chair before she groaned out loud. "Hide-nii… do I really have to go to another banquet? That's gonna be the fifth one this week. My ankles are busted from all the heels I'm wearing, you know that, right?"

"I'm sorry but that's just how it is. We've been making donations to organizations and relief centers left and right. It'd be nice to just end it there but hosting a small-scaled event in their name is just reassurance for the public."

"I know but at this rate, I'm going to rip out my entire wardrobe room!"

He chuckles softly before commenting, "Don't tell Ren-nii that, or he'll buy out the entire store."

The fun part was that Asami could completely picture Ren doing that. "My lips are sealed."

Her brother laughs again. "Anyways, I should probably let you go. I'll email you the information and prepare accordingly. Ah and just a friendly warning, this event will be an open event, free for anyone that clears security cheek. Small business owners to even world leaders can attend so be careful out there okay?"

"I always am."

"Good, I'll catch you later."

"Later."

Once Asami hangs up, she sighs before leaning back into her chair. She closed her eyes for a moment and it didn't take long until someone knocked on her door, snapping her back into coherence again.

"Yes?"

"It's me, Masato."

"Come in." She sits upright and comfortably rests her arms on the table.

Once past the doors, Masato bowed before continuing. "Your brother has requested for me to give you this."

Asami cocks an eyebrow once she sees the package. "Which brother?"

He simply smiles before handing Asami the box, "Guess."

"..."

Feeling skeptical, Asami accepts the suspicious box before opening it with caution. To her shock, something pops and goes off. She immediately flinches while snapping her eyes shut. A party popper had gone off, creating a large mess everywhere. Her eyebrow twitched and when she opened her eyes, she saw the aftermath and wanted to scream. There was no way she would be able to clean up the mini particles of confetti all by herself. Even if she did, it would take her too long. Masato seemed to have been equally surprised as her but was trying hard to keep his poker face, but he was failing as a small smile could be seen.

"This is…"

She looked inside the box and found a small teddy bear plush, but rather than being impressed and happy at the unwanted decoration on her desk, she grumbled at the mess in her office. She grabs her head before speaking up.

"Can you call someone from the janitor team?"

Masato cleared his throat as if he was clearing his laughter. "Yes, I'll have them come ASAP."

Once he left the room, Asami eyed the small plush again. She stared at it with a stoned expression before picking it up. She then dusts off the confetti on the bear before dusting it off her body as well. More shredded paper falls onto her desk and floor before she's left with a barely workable space. She lets out a soft sigh before speaking out loud quietly.

"I'm gonna kill Ren-nii…" she then plays with the bear, waving its hand back and forth. "Not you though." After a second of staring into its little eyes, Asami was warm at the cheeks before whispering a pen name. "What if I call you Korbear…" she blushed at the thought. "No no… let's not…"

She set the plush aside before smiling at it.

"Hehe… Korbear."

xXx

"Cheers!"

"Cheers!"

Smiling politely, Asami raised her champagne glass to the cameras in front of her. A storm of shutters blinded her but, nonetheless, she kept her eyes open. She stood in the spotlight and after some announcements and questionnaires, she was finally pardoned from the opening ceremony. Quickly exiting the main stage, Asami blinks before giving the cameramen one last smile. She waved to them kindly and earnestly, hoping that this whole mess would end.

So that she could go back to her normal life.

Run her company without all these public stunts.

Not having to worry about being slandered by some stranger for no reason.

The pressure she felt always made her feel like she bit off more than she could chew. However, she wasn't Asami Sato for no reason. She'd be damned to let people's biased and one-sided opinions take her down. She ended up greeting some local business owners here and there. Some were concerned about logistical businesses while some were concerned with contracts. Asami did her best to reassure them and suggested short-term solutions to the best of her capabilities. Albeit, it wasn't much but hopefully enough to sway the citizens of Republic City into a more positive light. Thankfully, the rest of this event went by pretty smoothly and Asami was currently lingering around for the late-night ceremony.

Letting out a soft sigh, Asami drank the last of her champagne before facing the crowd again. Her eyes were growing heavy by the second and she wished Korra was here. They had exchanged some texts earlier but Korra had to call it the night because she was busy with something. As much as Asami wanted to talk to Korra more, she had little energy to fight for it so she was thankful for the short distraction.

Ironic really.

People saw her as an intimidating bossy lady but in reality, she was just a simple woman who was seriously whipped when it came to her girlfriend. It's been a good long, long day since she has talked to her, enough that every tan-looking person made her turn their way. Asami's eyebrow finally arched upward when she saw a familiar silhouette. "Korra?"

Asami stared in her direction and scrunched her face slightly as she waited for her to turn around. Of course, the moment she did, it wasn't her girlfriend. Letting out a sigh, she shook her head slightly.

"Who am I kidding… Korra wouldn't be here…"

Who was the love-sick puppy now? Asami thought about Korra so much that her mind was occupied with her 24/7. In fact, so much that she had to be hallucinating. Seeing another look-alike yet again, she rolled her eyes before turning away. "Hmph, as if Korra would be here…"

She started walking in some direction before she stopped dead in her tracks. "Wait a sec… that voice…"

Okay, now that look-alike sounded like her girlfriend too. She shook her head softly, already scolding herself for mistaking strangers for her girlfriend.

"Korra's not here… there's no reason for her to be…"

Asami stopped in her tracks when she laid eyes on that beautiful woman. A woman wearing a formal water tribe dress. A woman that looked absolutely fucking drop-dead gorgeous. A woman that made her heart thump a hundred beats per second. Her mouth quickly fell into a smile before her face lit it. She immediately made her way over and once within earshot, she called out:

"Korra!"

Twitching at her name, Korra turned around. "Asami?"

"It is you!" She beamed before pulling her girlfriend into a hug, "What are you doing here? I wasn't expecting you. I thought you were busy?"

"Oh— uh… yeah. I just um…"

A person clearing their voice finally catches their attention. When Asami turned to acknowledge them, her eyes practically popped open. The gentleman makes eye contact with her before extending his hand.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Miss Sato, I've heard a lot about you from Korra."

Asami gulped and she consciously forced a poker face. She then calmly released her girlfriend before walking over to greet him properly. There were a billion thoughts running through her head but thankfully, her natural businesswoman reflexes kicked in.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too Chief Tonraq," Oh fuck fuck fuck! She then extends her hand before instinctively grabbing onto Tonraq's thick forearm. FUCK! "I wasn't expecting the Southern Chief to come to this event."

He blinked at the gesture as he sized Asami up and down. A second passed before he smiled warmly. "Please, skip the formalities. You can call me Tonraq. You are dating my daughter after all."

The phrase sounded normal, but the way Tonraq had said that… Asami could have sworn he was implying something else. She also couldn't decipher whatever look he was giving her. What did it mean?! "In that case, please call me Asami. I hope your trip here went smoothly?" Oh spirits. Korra's dad is here. Her. Dad. Is. Here. HER DAD IS HERE?!

Remaining quiet, Korra swallowed her nerves as she glanced between her father and girlfriend.

He hums in acknowledgment. "Yes, it was quite a smooth trip. Although… we weren't exactly at ease until we saw Korra in person."

We? Don't tell me… "We? As in…" she led off hoping to fish for answers.

He hums again. "My wife, Senna. She was here just a second ago but went off to greet Pema."

"Ah, I see…" Oh that must've been that person I saw earlier then… hahaha… no wonder they looked alike… someone kill me now, Korra's dad and mom are here?! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! "So, what brings you two here? I didn't think you two would have time to come to this… event of mine."

"We actually came for various reasons. For one, we wanted to talk with you about our contract with Future Industries but of course, that is for another day. We just wanted to give you our greetings first. And two… I needed to have a talk with this one," he glances over at Korra, "While I am proud and glad that she helped you, my wife and I had to scold her for getting into trouble."

Asami laughed awkwardly at that. "I'm sure you know how much I am indebted to her…" she then looked off to Korra with a sweet smile. "She is an amazing person, you raised an amazing daughter. Thank you for that. I am who I am today because of her."

Tonraq and Asami ended up holding eye contact for a brief moment. Korra was still nervously eyeing them both but, luckily for her, Councilman Tenzin made his way over. "Tonraq, you made it!"

They all looked to their right and sure enough, he came over with a bright face. The chief was the first to react, "Councilman Tenzin, it's nice to see you as always."

Asami then nods when she makes eye contact with him which he returns.

"Yes, as always… my apologies, am I interrupting?"

Tonraq shakes his head dismissively. "No, we were just wrapping." He then faces Asami with a somewhat serious expression. "Take care of this one, she's quite a handful."

Korra may have been quiet but she couldn't ignore that light insult. "Hey!"

Laughing softly at that, Asami held her hand out for a shake again. "I'm aware."

He smiles before taking her hand. "Well then, I look forward to seeing you later."

"Likewise."

They let go of each other's hands and sure enough, they parted ways before the lights in the room dimmed down for some reason. Most of the room dispersed to the sides and sure enough, spotlights lit up the center of the room as some soft music began playing. Asami cocked an eyebrow at that.

"I thought this was supposed to be a charity event."

"Pfft—" Korra covered her mouth to suppress her laugh. "Isn't that always the case?"

Asami turned to Korra with a blank face. "Apparently."

They held eye contact before they ended up laughing together.

"Come on," Asami says before holding her hand out, "Let's clear out the way. The shrimp cocktails here are surprisingly good."

"Food? Oh, say no more. I'm starving, you don't even want to know the day I've had today."

"I'm sure it's no different from mine."

"True…"

After that, the two of them relaxed close by the confectionary table. People had begun to enjoy the after-party and minded their own business, sparring Asami from any more talks. She may have seemed fine on the outside but honestly, as of now, there was inner turmoil raging inside. Her heart was thundering like crazy and her hands were even a little sweaty. One would think it was from all the work she had done today but nope. That was most definitely not the reason why.

It's all thanks to the out-of-the-blue meet and greet with her girlfriend's dad. The freaking Chief of the Southern Watertribe.

Narrowly escaping the death grasp of Tonraq's eyes, Asami let out a heavy sigh of relief. It was nice and all… her father was warm and welcoming. Their interaction was alright if not decent for most of it. What Asami could tell from their short interaction was that he was an amazing man with a brilliant and charming family. He did little to nothing at making her uncomfortable during their exchange. It was also a bonus that Senna hadn't returned yet so for now, Asami escaped death.

Talk about getting the rug swept beneath you.

She was fine with the idea of meeting the love of her life's parents but she wasn't expecting their first meeting to be so abrupt! She needed time to prepare herself mentally for any fast ones they may pull on her. Not to mention, it was also painfully obvious that he knew about their situation from the looks he was shooting at her and his daughter. Though it was a shame she couldn't rip off the bandaid and talk with Senna briefly… From the quick glance she got at the woman not too long ago, she could see who Korra took after and could only imagine what her mom must have been like in her youth.

They were both lookers honestly.

Spacing out mindlessly at the crowd, Asami eventually looked over into Korra's eyes. She had finished snacking and she was equally bored as her. However, Asami would argue that Korra's eyes were always so bright and clear. Albeit, they weren't focused on her since they were fixated on the pairs that were dancing to the music. That's when an idea hit her. She smiled softly before asking in a soft voice.

"Say, you wanna get some fresh air?"

Korra turns to face her before smiling back warmly. "Sure."

Hand in hand, they made their way to the hotel's balcony without much fuss or attention. Once outside, Asami took in a deep and refreshing breath, enjoying the night sky and chilly breeze. The cool air made her shiver slightly but in a good way. It was a nice contrast to the warm ballroom that was crowded with people and lights.

"It's kinda chilly out here huh?

"Mmh… I guess."

Asami then spares Korra a glance. "Right, you're from the south so this weather is nothing to you."

Korra shot her a glance before smirking at her with a lopsided grin. "Busted."

Shaking her head with a light scoff, Asami placed her hands on the railing before looking off at the starry sky. "This is nice."

"Yeah, it is." Korra agrees while still looking at Asami. "It really doesn't feel like much time has passed when shit hit the fan."

"Mmh… I guess so." Asami's face falls somewhat before bringing up her hand. She reaches out to the sky, covering the moon with her hand before speaking some thoughts. "I never would have imagined that all of this would happen. It feels like some sick soap drama you know? Who would have thought, my dad turned out to be a criminal and my girlfriend turned out to be a princess?" She somewhat jokes with some truth behind her words.

"Hey! Don't call me that!" Korra quickly snaps back.

"What?" Asami starts with a smile, "You can't expect me to not tease you about it."

"Says the CEO of one of the richest and most successful companies out there!"

"Mmh… yeah, thanks but that still doesn't beat royal status babe. You have diplomatic power whereas I don't."

"Oh come on, you know you're richer than my tribe as a whole right?!"

"That may be true but… you can only go so far with just money love."

"Urghhhhhh, you're impossible."

"Heh, but you still love me."

"That's—"

Asami spared Korra a look and there it was again, that look on her face. The look that Korra was clearly holding something back but couldn't say it for some reason. Whatever it was, Asami was quick to read the mood and carry on. She steps back from the railing before facing Korra. One soft smile later, she offers her girlfriend a hand.

"Care to dance?"

"Oh… uh…" Korra glances back at the banquet hall, "Won't people see us?"

Shrugging it off, Asami stepped in closer and grabbed Korra's hand. "We'll be fine. Besides… this is my song." She then guides Korra's hands onto her hips before wrapping her arms around her neck. Korra tensed a little at first from the intimacy, eventually, they both settled into the soft atmosphere of serenity and began to sway gently back and forth.

Of course, Asami was the first to start a conversation after a moment of tranquility. "Congrats again for passing your finals Korra. You really toughed it out this semester with all that has happened…"

Korra looked down at Asami's collar before responding. "Thanks… this has been one hectic year. For the both of us. It's a miracle that we're both still functional members of society."

That makes Asami let out a soft laugh. "I guess so." After a second she sighs before she spoke with a sad tone. "You know… I'm not gonna lie, I miss school."

Looking up to face Asami, Korra had a soft expression on her face. "Yeah?"

"Yeah."

Asami holds eye contact with Korra before expanding a little.

"I miss not having the responsibility of being in charge of so many people's livelihoods."

Korra cracked a chuckle at how blunt Asami was. "And?"

"And…" she looked up at the night sky to think. "And having a free schedule to hang out with my girlfriend."

That makes her girlfriend giggle again. "So smoothhhh."

Asami gives her a playful smile with a wink. "Yeah I know, I'm the smoothest person I know."

Rolling her eyes playfully, Korra lightly smacked Asami's shoulder. "Stop being so cheesy when this is supposed to be romantic."

"Mmh, yeah, you're right. We should enjoy this moment in silence. It's been a while since we've had quiet time together."

"Mmhmm." Korra agrees before relaxing back into Asami's body. They slowly swayed along to the beat of the calming music and after some time, Korra clenched her jaw before trying. "Say… Asami?"

Breathing in that fresh ocean breeze scent she grew to love, Asami's eyes were closed as she happily rocked their bodies slowly back and forth. She had a tight hold on her girlfriend as if she was holding a treasure. "Mmh?"

"C-Can I…" her voice fell quiet.

At that comment, Asami opened her eyes and leaned back slightly to look at Korra. She then grabbed a hold of her cheek before prompting, "What's the matter Kor? Are you tired? If that's the case then we can—"

Korra stops Asami from pivoting around with a tight grip. "No! No no no, that's not it. I um… have something to ask."

"Yeah?" Blinking once, she settles back into Korra's hold. "What's the matter?"

"Umm…" Taking in a deep breath, Korra rests her forehead against Asami's collarbone. "I… can I…" a few lingering seconds passed before she could finally finish her question in a quiet voice. "Am I allowed to love you…?"

Her voice might have been quiet, but the moment Asami heard Korra's question, she immediately sobered up from whatever thoughts she had. However, rather than answering hastily, she chose to expand level-headedly. Korra's trauma with past relationships made her lose trust in people and Asami wouldn't dare challenge that. She simply pulled in her girlfriend for a tight hug before answering.

"Of course, you can be silly," she kissed her cheek, "I would never be any happier in my life if you did." Asami didn't have to look at Korra's face to know she had a beautiful warm smile on it.

Then, as if she was gathering some courage, Korra then took a deep breath before speaking up confidently. "I love you."

Nothing in the world made Asami feel this complete before.

"I love you too."

xXx

"Tonraq, honey, have you seen Korra?"

"Korra?" Tonraq repeats before turning around, "The last time I saw her, she was with Asami. I think they were headed towards the balcony last time I checked."

With a hum, Senna grabs a hold of her husband's arm before softly leading them over to the balcony. "So how was she darling?"

"Asami?"

Senna nods in confirmation. "I'm sure she's a wonderful woman if Korra chose her but I'm still a little worried, you know how Naeun really took a toll on her… I just want what is best for my baby."

Tonraq lets out a warm chuckle. "We'll have a proper dinner later to get to know her, but from what I could tell, she seems like a wonderful woman fit for our little girl."

"I'm looking forward to meeting her. Her father was a brilliant man… if she has any of his good traits, I'm sure she'll be a keeper." Senna couldn't help but squeal slightly, "I'm excited to have a second daughter! Maybe she'll let me doll her up?"

Her husband chuckles at that. "I'm sure she would love it."

The two of them finally had visuals on the two love birds.

"Oh, there they are."

They were about to speak up and say something but they quickly sensed the atmosphere around them and stopped in their tracks before deciding to watch from afar. Asami and Korra looked at peace and love was in the air. It was so beautiful that the two parents couldn't ignore it and internally squealed.

"Oh my…" Senna covered her mouth, "They're so cute."

Tonraq simply had a relieved smile. "They look perfect together."

Senna giggles before teasing, "Our baby is so grown up now!"

They could faintly hear Korra confessing her love for Asami.

The two of them smiled again before Tonraq shook his head softly and started leading them away. "We should give them some space."

His wife agreed with a hum before giggling again. "How romantic, it reminds me of the old days back when we first dated."

Tonraq held a bashful look as he rubbed the back of his neck. "It does, doesn't it?"

"I can't wait until they get married and have kids! Spirits, I'm looking forward to the future."

Laughing at the announcement, Tonraq was amused, to say the least. "How many kids do you think they'd want? I say one."

His wife just tsked her finger. "No no no sweetheart, I bet you they'll at least have two or maybe even three!"

"Heh, then I guess we have a bet."

"A bet indeed."

The two of them ended up raising their pinkies before crossing them together and sealing the promise with a thumb stamp.
