Two things that Mari Stark didn't expect to see today: Her Iron Maiden suit being included in a the Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy collection at the MoMA and the Planet Titan. Space travel was always something that she was interested in learning about but not one that she was hoping to participate in. After all, one of her scariest moments was watching her father fly into a wormhole and barely make it back - and it was something she had seen him struggle with PTSD from ever since. Space was interesting, yes but ultimately, it was terrifying.
However, such thoughts had left her mind when she chose to leave the school bus with Peter after seeing a spaceship landing in the middle of the city. The nano tech suit that her and her father had built as a summer project came in very helpfully as she flew towards the threat with Peter attached. It was by mere coincidence that the two teen heroes would meet with her father, but by choice that they were on a ship towards Titan.
As dismayed as her father was that they were there, there was no way that Mari would leave her father alone in space again.
Walking towards her father after both of them took a beating trying to get the gauntlet off of Thanos' hand, Mari knelt down beside him. "Dad, I've got you. Come on." She said, offering him her arm before helping him stand as she stood beside him as support.
Tony was scared. Once Strange had given up the Time Stone, there was nothing that they could do but wait. Either way, Thanos was going to get the Mind Stone and win or those on Earth were going to stop him. Unfortunately, having just come up against the Mad Titan and knowing he now had 5 out of the 6 stones meant that he was practically unstoppable - Tony could only fear for the worst. And it wasn't long until his instincts were proven right.
With his daughter beside him, Tony sighed as he looked to her. "Are you alright, sweetheart?" He asked affectionately, Mari nodding in response.
"There's nothing we can do anymore, is there?" The young Stark girl asked as her father just gave her a forced smile.
"There is always something we can do. We're Starks. We'll find something." Tony assured her with false hope, not even believing in his words himself as his allies began to come towards them.
"Something's happening." Mantis said, drawing everyone's attention as they gathered by each other before she suddenly turned into a dust like substance much to the shock of her allies.
Next, the same happened to a man called Drax and it looked like the same would happen to Peter Quill. "Steady, Quill." Tony called out as the man looked towards him in fear.
"Oh, man." He said before he turned into dust also.
With Mantis, Drax and Quill's disappearances, Mari's heart dropped as she realised what was happening. "Dad..." Mari said, meeting her father's gaze with wide eyes as they both acknowledged the situation.
"Tony." Doctor Strange then called out, looking to him with sorrow in his eyes as he glanced at Tony and then his young daughter. "There was no other way." He told him before he was gone too.
"Mr. Stark?" Peter Parker called out as he approached the Stark duo, a stumble in his step as he did.
"Are you alright, kid?" Tony asked, concerned all over his face and voice as the young male stumbled towards them.
"I don't feel so good." Peter then said before his legs gave way and he dropped towards the floor.
"Peter!" Mari exclaimed, Tony watching in horror as he daughter moved to catch her friend in her arms before he fell to the floor.
"Mari." He said, looking up at her and giving her a small smile that she returned as she held him comfortingly.
"I'm here. You're all right, Pete." Mari told him affectionately as tears welled in her eyes, knowing what was about to happen to him.
"I don't... I don't know what's happening. I don't know..." Peter stuttered, Mari shaking her head at his fading words.
"Peter! Hey, no come on, Pete. Look at me." Mari said, almost as if she was rejecting his fate but Thanos' outcome was inevitable.
"I don't want to go, Mar." Peter told her tearfully, Mari holding back her own as she hold onto Peter to no avail.
"You can't go." Mari replied, her voice cracking as she heard her dad kneel beside her to look down at Peter worriedly.
"It's alright, kid." Tony said, speaking to the both of them as Mari closed her eyes and Peter began to fade.
"Please. Please, I don't want to go. I don't want to go." Peter pleaded before he accepted his own fate, sensing it in his bones. "I'm sorry." He then said, his eyes going blank before he was completely decimated much to both the Stark's devastation.
"Mari." Tony called out softly to soothe his daughter's choked sobs as he placed a hand on her shoulder only to realise that Mari too, was turning to dust before his very eyes.
"Dad." Mari replied to him as she turned to face him. He could see the fear on her face - and his daughter never showed anyone that she was scared. Pulling her into his arms, he clutched her to him tightly - afraid to let go.
"I'm here. I'm right here. You're going to be okay." Tony said tearfully, his voice shaky as he tried to hold back tears whilst reassuring both his daughter and himself. However, Mari knew that her father was lying. Looking down as tear rolled down Mari's cheeks, Tony reached for her hand to assure himself of his daughter's presence only for her to turn to dust at his touch. "No, no. My beautiful, little girl."
"Dad, I-" But Mari could not finish her sentence, those words becoming their last as she faded into dust much to the heartbreak of her father.
Letting out an anguished and frustrated scream as he clutched at the air of the spot his daughter once stood, Tony let his tears fall as Nebula came over to him - only the two of them appearing to have survived Thanos' victory.
Looking down at the grieving Tony, Nebula looked around at the destruction that surrounding them amongst the empty space of where their allies once stood. "He did it."
