"Kyoko... I need to ask you something."

The girl's gaze shot up in anticipation, as the blunette's eyes drifted down, exhaling tentatively.

"I'll never approve of the whole feeding people to familiars thing." Her jaw clenched in uncertainty. "But, what if you didn't? Would you...still be here right now?"

Kyoko looked away, eyes half-lidded. The silence between them was filled by the indistinct noises of the city reaching the top of the building where the two were sitting side by side.

"Probably not."

She didn't like the turn that conversation was staking. There was another long pause as Sayaka shifted her gloomy gaze, staring off into the distance. The night cityscape stretched to the horizon, dotted with lights.

"Then I'm glad you did."

The other girl looked up again and widened her eyes, taken aback.

"Like, really glad." She gazed deeply into Kyoko's eyes, barely holding back the flurry of emotions. "I'm a horrible person."

She waited for the other's reply, but the redhead just stayed there gaping at her.

"Years ago, I basically told you that you should've just died." Sayaka withdrew, bringing her arms back to gird herself. "And now I'm happy who knows how many other people actually died."

She grimaced, curling in on herself while gripping her arms tighter. "I keep saying I want to save people, but I can't even stay true to that in my own thoughts. I'm so selfish and hypocritical..."

"Hey, that's okay," Kyoko reached out and touched her arm. "You don't hafta care for everyone. It ain't like they'd do it for you either."

Sayaka shot her a disapproving look. "What does it matter? I'm a magical girl, that's what we're supposed to do."

Kyoko laid back, propping herself up on her elbows. "Yeah well, fuck 'em. If they wanna die, it'll happen one way or another."

"I didn't." Sayaka held her gaze sternly. "I was about to, but I'm still here."

"C'mon, that's an exception."

Sayaka pulled herself up and scoffed.

"Sure, one of how many?" She looked away and sighed dejectedly. "I didn't want to get into this argument again."

"Well, seems to me like you went straight into it." Kyoko rose as well, visibly upset, while Sayaka got up, exhaling again.

"Sorry. Let's just drop it, okay? I'm tired." She turned away and dragged her feet towards the stairs, shoulders tensed as Kyoko followed her with a puzzled look.

She knew Sayaka would be brooding all night, at the very least.

The girl rested her arms on her knees, sighing, disheartened. She should have come up with something more convincing instead of automatically sputtering the same old trite. She stomped her foot down.

What Sayaka had told her, that was huge... She had never thought of it like that. Shame it ended that way, they could be having a deep smooching session right now. Why the heck did everything always have to turn out badly?

She rummaged through her pockets for something to munch on and found nothing. Damn, she had already eaten up the last chocolate bar hours ago, and now she too was going to mull all over the matter.

She got up and prepared to jump off to go fetch something. There was no way she was going to pointlessly sulk around all night.
