They rowed back like the devil was on their tale. Which in a way it was. Narcissa had to admit Norrington's sacrifice was touching. He really did love Elizabeth. Perhaps she had misjudged the man. But such thoughts could be saved for later.

Just as they reached the ship there was a bubbling beneath the water and then the Flying Dutchman burst from below like a terrifying sea monster. It was old and weathered covered in barnacles the prow was split slightly almost to look like teeth. Instinctively Narcissa moved in front of Elizabeth.

"Lord on high deliver us!" exclaimed Gibbs.

"I'm not sure undead pirate ships are his division," muttered Narcissa.

Jack however, appeared unafraid.

"I'll handle this," he said.

He held up the jar of dirt he had been carrying and called out to Davy Jones, who now that the ships were closer, Narcissa could see looked like an anthropomorphic squid with a tentacle beard and one hand that looked like a crabs claw.

"Hello fish face! You lose something?" Jones glared at Jack.

"Oi! Scungilli!" Jack continued capering around the deck like a mad man. Jack tripped down the stairs as he danced about. As he fell everyone winced. Seemingly unfazed Jack popped back up still holding the jar.

"Got it! Come to negotiate you slimy git?!" Jack continued to dance about calling. "I've got a jar of dirt! I've got a jar of dirt! And guess what's inside it!"

"How much rum has he had?" asked Narcissa.

"I think he's gone straight up mad," replied Elizabeth. Jones seemed to have had enough as he turned to give orders to his crew.

"Wait!" called Jack as the Dutchman's cannons fired. The Pearl jolted and everyone grabbed the rails for support before starting to race about the deck to try and escape.

"Come on me darling! Show us what you've got!" said Gibbs as they began pulling away. The Pearl was swift and quickly put distance between the ships.

"She's behind!" called Ragetti.

"Aye. We've got her!" said Gibbs

"We're the faster?" asked Will

"Against the wind the Dutchman beats us but with the wind...

"We rob her advantage." exclaimed Narcissa remembering something her father had said when he was explaining aspects of the Pearl. Gibbs nodded at her.

"Aye."

"They're giving up!" called Pintel. Narcissa looked and sure enough the Dutchman had stopped pursuit.

"My father is on that ship. We can take her!" said Will. Narcissa turned to him.

"Are you insane? We can't take her! It would be suicide. All we can hope to do is outrun her. I'm sorry about your father but I will not allow a massacre to take place for the sake of one man!"

"Why fight when you can negotiate?" said Jack beginning to walk down the steps with his jar however the Pearl jolted again this time from something below them. The jar plummeted to the deck. Narcissa then realized the jar must contain the heart of Davy Jones. But when it crashed and shattered all that fell out was dirt. Narcissa's eyes widened in fear. If the heart wasn't there then where was it?

Jack began pawing through the dirt.

"The thump thump! Where's the thump thump?!"

"We must have hit a reef," said Gibbs however Will's eyes were wide with terror.

"That's not a reef. Get away from the rail!" he called to the crew. Narcissa quickly obeyed.

"What is it?" she asked him. She had a guess and was really hoping she wasn't correct

"The Kraken," replied Will and Narcissa's heart sunk.

"Told ye," said Ragetti to Pintel.

"Not the time!" said Narcissa rolling her eyes. Will raced below deck calling.

"It'll attack the starboard! I've seen it in action!"

Narcissa followed him dragging Ragetti and Pintel to help with whatever Will planned.

"Load the cannons!" she ordered. They might be facing their doom but she'd be damned if she was going down without a fight. Both men obeyed and to their credit did not back away even as tentacles slid up the side of the ship.

"Hold fire! Hold!" ordered Will.

"Aye, give the word," said Ragetti.

"Ready, oh so very ready!" said Pintel. They all waited with baited breath as the ship creaked under the weight of the Kraken.

"Will!" screamed Elizabeth in warning. Finally, Will yelled.

"Fire!" and the Pearl's cannons blasted. Tearing into the tentacles. There was a horrid scream of pain from the Kraken. Will and Narcissa returned to the deck. The pirates cheered and looking over the side Narcissa saw burned tentacles waving.

"It'll be back," said Will to Narcissa and Elizabeth. "Get to the boats."

"That's going be a bit hard when there aren't any," said Narcissa pointing to where the longboats had been. They now resembled a pile of matchsticks.

"Right," said Will. "Pull the grates. Get all the gunpowder onto the net in the cargo hold!" he called. Narcissa had just now noticed that Jack had disappeared. Looking out over the water she saw a familiar shape in a longboat rowing away.

"So much for a Captain going down with the ship," Narcissa muttered.

Will handed Elizabeth a rifle. Which was actually a reasonable decision. While Narcissa was a better shot with a pistol, they had discovered during the time after returning to Port Royal that Elizabeth was better with the rifle.

"Whatever you do don't miss" he said.

"As soon as you're clear!" said Elizabeth. Narcissa followed her sister planning to keep any tentacles from interfering with the shot. The ship shook as the Kraken's tentacles burst from the water and drove into the cargo hold. Screams could be heard below as the net full of gunpowder barrels was hoisted into the air Will hanging on.

Things weren't much better above deck. Crew members were picked off left and right and it was all Narcissa and Elizabeth could do to dodge and hack at the creature. Elizabeth took aim waiting for Will who was attempting to get the Kraken's attention to get clear. Suddenly Will's boot became caught in the net.

"Shoot!" he called to Elizabeth as Narcissa sliced another tentacle causing it to withdraw. Just as Elizabeth made to pull the trigger two tentacles sneaked behind them and before Narcissa could do anything both she and Elizabeth had been dragged off their feet and into the captain's cabin. Ragetti and Pintel both hacked at the tentacles setting the women free however the rifle had flown up onto the upper deck by the boat wheel.

"She and Elizabeth scrambled to reach it only for a foot to come down on the rifle. Looking up they saw Jack who grabbed the gun and took aim. He pulled the trigger just as Will got free and the Kraken's tentacles closed around the bundle of barrels. A huge explosion set bits of tentacle flying everywhere. Once again, the Kraken retreated.

"Everyone to the boat!" yelled Narcissa taking charge.

"Yes, abandon ship!" called Jack.

"But Jack the Pearl!" said Gibbs.

"It's only a ship mate. Abandon ship or abandon hope," said Jack.

"I'd feel better if him failing to settle his debt hadn't gotten us into this mess," Narcissa murmured to her sister. Narcissa looked around the deck noting the many dead or missing crewmembers. They had lost over half their crew which meant that they could all fit into the boat but that many good men had fallen victim to the Kraken.

"I'd feel better if him failing to settle his debt hadn't gotten us into this mess," Narcissa said to Elizabeth as people began to lower the longboat. As her sister turned away to help Elizabeth came to a realization. Jack's debt. The Kraken wasn't after the Pearl. It was after Jack. Which meant unless Jack stayed behind, they wouldn't have a chance of escape.

She walked forward towards him.

"Thank you," she said.

"We're not free yet love," said Jack. 'We' the word affirmed Elizabeth's suspicion that Jack would try to come with them. She moved even closer so their faces were only a few inches apart.

"You came back. I always knew you were a good man," she said.

For a second, she wondered if she could do this. Condemn a man who had come back, to death even for the safety of others. But then she remembered the pain he had caused her loved ones. He'd tricked Will into potentially walking to his death on the Dutchman.

And even worse, she recalled the look on her sister's face as Jack shot Barbossa. Narcissa's scream of pain and the grief her sister had carried for the past two years. The pain she'd seem the red head try to hide despite the hole left in her heart. Jack had caused that. Then she knew she could do it.

Elizabeth pressed closer and kissed Jack, who seemed surprised but responded. As she did this she reached for a manacle attached to the mast and snapped it around his wrist. She pulled away and Jack looked down at his hand in shock.

"It's after you not the ship. It's not us. It's the only way, and I'm not sorry," she indicated the manacle.

"But that's not just for everyone else. That's for hurting my sister," she walked away back to the boats feeling some guilt.

As they lowered the boat into the water and people began climbing in Narcissa glanced back and saw Jack pressed against the mast and Elizabeth kissing him. Confusion filled her and she saw the look of shock on Will's face. He quickly turned away.

Narcissa was about to say something to Elizabeth who was now approaching but then realized that Jack wasn't just standing by the mast. He was chained to it. Elizabeth had stopped him leaving because the Kraken was after him. It was never about the Pearl.

"What about Jack?" asked Gibbs.

"He elected to stay behind to give us a chance," replied Elizabeth. Gibbs nodded sadly and they began to row away. Once they had gone a decent distance, they turned to see the crushing arms of the Kraken dragging the Pearl, and Jack into the depths of the ocean.

Author's note: Hope you liked that! I figured I should give a little insight into Elizabeth's mindset when she chained Jack. Hope you are all enjoying this. Please like and COMMENT. We've got one chapter to go in DMC. Shout out to Guest for their recent comments and in answer to those questions a reminder Narcissa has auburn hair and blue eyes like her father with pale skin. Just imagine Amy Adams. Also by request in the next book I will include a scene about Narcissa's adoption. Until next week!
