Yona looks paler than normal; her eyes are unfocused. When Hak moves close enough to her, she feels very, very warm. It's as if she's a live wire next to him, and he can't help but reach out and steady her, when she stumbles just a little bit. It's rare to see her like this, and yet, she's putting on a strong act like she usually does. Yona tries to be a pillar of strength, and yet, even still, Hak sees something amiss with her.
When they stop for Yun to begin pitching their tents, Hak guides Yona towards a tree at a little bit of a distance from their would be campsite, hand gentle on her back, but not immune to the heat that rises up from it. She's running a fever, he worries.
"What's the matter?" Hak stands a little off to the side as Yona practically collapses into a seated position; there was no grace or even attempt of it at all.
"I'm fine." Yona pulls her hood over her hair, as if she's somehow trying to hide her face, and Hak just leans closer. It's more important to make sure she's alright than to simply walk away now.
"You're not walking right. You are too warm, and you can't even keep your eyes focused." Hak points out, a little unsure of a better way to tell her that she's sick.
"I don't want to slow everyone down." Yona points out; her voice a little weak and sort of timid at the moment.
"You'll do that when sick anyway." Hak points out, and Yona stares up at the tree line instead of meeting his eyes. "Why won't you look at me?"
"I'm not sick." Her voice is weak; it has no backbone, but her eyes despite being unfocused a minute ago focus back in on him. She's honest, even though that makes absolutely no sense.
"You're running a fever." Hak tells her and places the back of his hand on her forehead to double check. Sure enough, it's as hot as the rest of her.
"I know." She says instead, "And it's weird, but I'm not sick."
He just looks at her.
"Trust me." She mumbles, face red, and Hak wonders what she has to be embarrassed about.
"I do." Hak answers and sits down across from her.
"I don't know why I'm running a fever today." She begins and ignores Hak's blank stare as best as she can, "I have a guess? But I've never been this way before."
"You've ran a fever before." Hak answers, though he doesn't sound agitated with her. He's listening!
"Not that." Yona admits, staring down at her lap, "I just know I'm not sick. I'll probably be fine tomorrow."
"You should rest." Hak tells her, offering a hand, and Yona looks back down at her feet, but she does take it. She lets Hak help her up.
"I will." Yona pauses, as Hak is still holding her hand.
"Here, let me help." He loops his other hand around her waist, and Yona leans against his side. It's still weird to admit that she and Hak aren't just childhood friends anymore, even if the words should be simple ones. And today, just feels extraordinarily embarrassing.
Yet, she walks with Hak back the small distance towards their newfound campsite, and Yun looks at them with the suspicion of a mother somehow, and Yona ducks her head. She knows she didn't do anything wrong, but she still feels embarrassed. Tomorrow's a day that can't get here fast enough, even if Hak's the one helping her walk the distance and looking after her through it all.
