The Princess Groom
Ch.1: World Turns
For the most part, in one's life, the pendulum rarely swings rapidly. A life becomes complacent, common place. Rhythm comes, a day-by-day routine with perhaps an unexpected trip once in a while. As I relaxed on the morning of February 14th, 2022, in the shower, this was my life.
I find funny now that I was supposed to work that day. My job was not difficult- I was a cashier for a large discount store chain. I was a homebody, enjoying the comforts of home, along with the occasional walk. The night before, my manager had surprised me with a request to not work that shift that following day. She had hired a new employee and needed to train him. I said yes but did find the timing suspicious. I now ponder if it was on purpose.
Anyways, after stepping out of the shower, I allowed myself a happy sigh. I had no plans for the day, other than a walk that afternoon. A cup of coffee awaited me on my K-Cup Machine in my room downstairs. The time was roughly 9 in the morning.
I know these details may seem strange to include, but I find them important. They were some of my last moments before the pendulum began swinging back and forth rapidly.
Quickly, I had my clothes on. I had chosen a simple White T-Shirt and my Michigan State sweatpants. Turning to open the door, I could only gasp, almost slipping and falling sideways into the shower at what stared back at me in the mirror.
A tall demon with pure white skin, blonde hair, and an uncanny yet seemingly friendly smile stared back at me. Her wore a red robe and held a cup of tea in his hand.
A million questions raced through my head. How could this be? Wha- was I just seeing this? Rapidly shaking my head, I blinked. Indeed, the demon stared back at me. He then spoke, his voice akin to Willy Wonka, as if played by Gene Wilder.
"Hello David" he smiled. "Have you enjoyed a good morning?"
I blinked once more. Making a decision, I nodded. "Yes sir. If I may, who are you? Why are we even talking?"
Lucifer grinned. "I will not play games today, David. After all, I do know you have coffee and YouTube awaiting you. You know how close you were to death you were when you were seven months old?"
I nodded. "According to my mom, I was 12 hours away from death."
He took a sip of his tea. "Ahh... Green tea. But yes, you are correct. Watching from my abode, I saw the man you could become David. I saw how hard your mom did and does work for you. I made her a deal, and- "
"Wait a minute!" I said, stunned. "You...y-you are Lucifer?"
He grinned, taking a short bow. "The one and only. I look different than you guessed?"
I could only nod. Taking a deep breath, and trying hard not to run downstairs, I motioned for him to continue. He smiled, as I heard him sit.
"To continue, I made her a deal. You would be spared from the RSV Virus. In turn, when you and my daughter Charlie became ready and were of age, you two would marry, and one day run these hollowed streets yourself"
It took a minute for me to speak.
"Let me get this straight. I have to meet a girl I have never met, yet alone the Princess and daughter of LUCIFER?"
He smiled. "Now you get it- what's that?" he asked suddenly, as a female voice offscreen spoke. "Okay dear. I have to go for now David. I'm sure you will like it here. Either way, this is happening. Hold your family tight, Charlie will meet you tomorrow, and Hell will see you Saturday. Goodbye for now"
With that, the picture receded.
That night, I laid in bed on my right side, listening to a video on YouTube. I could not sleep. My life had been flipped upside down, the truth known.
Lucifer was telling the truth. I would be married to Charlie Magne.
And it was a year exact before that she learned the news...
