The Princess Groom

Ch.6: Nightmare

For a few minutes, quiet sobbing escaped me. I was stuck in a place I did not know, and that froze me. How could I face them? How could I live a life down here? I was only a human, and no physical or mental match for even the meekest Imp.

As I dried my eyes, I turned my head, catching a photo on the wall above my bed out of the corner of my right eye. It was a photo that had been taken two days before. Me, Lexi, Mom and Dad had gone out to eat at the local Tavern. A waitress had snapped the photo of us, smiles on our faces.

It was then that I took a deep breath and sighed, clutching the cross around my neck. "I'll be okay. I'll be okay" I repeated standing up and walking over to the window. It was a typical city, not too different from Earth, except for the more liberal use of drugs and prostitution. I smiled softly, gasping then, noticing a detail about the room- right on the right of the entertainment center was a cool Black Mini Fridge. I shook my head, laughing.

Just then, I felt the urge to take a shower and went to my dresser, next to my bed on its left. Deciding on a plain white t shirt and my Black shorts, I quickly entered the bathroom, my jaw dropping again as I saw a new feature- the hot tub for 7 on its far right. I was at a loss for words. Why had Charlie gone this far to accommodate me?"

"She likes you" I told myself. I shook my head. Even after a week to process this reality, I was not used to it.

The shower was nice and warm, a nice respite as I scrubbed myself. As I turned off the shower and left, grabbing a towel, a knock came from outside the bathroom door.

"One sec!" I said, quickly drying and dressing. I looked in the mirror, allowing myself to smile. But was it genuine? I did not know.

Opening the door, I saw Nifty waiting with a smile. "Hi David!" she smiled, noticeably looking me up and down. "I set your breakfast on your bed. I hope it turns out good!"

I blinked again. Nifty certainly worked quick. In cooking, however? Whatever. It was still a kind gesture. I gave a thumbs up, Nifty leaving, saying she had some rooms to clean on the floor.

The delectable breakfast finished, I laid on the bed, having turned on 666 News. The reporter, Katie Killjoy, was reporting on my arrival. As I was tired, not awake yet still, I don't recall what she said. Charlie would tell me later that it was typical reporting. If Katie didn't like the development, she did not say it.

Giving another yawn, I crossed my legs, and fell asleep.

It had rained that morning. A perfect setting for what took place. News reports had stated demons of all genders were appearing all over the world. They were attacking humans, even eating them. I was alone in my bedroom, hiding under my bed. My breath was quick, quiet. My eyes were closed. I suddenly heard a voice.

"Check this room. Word is there's some tasty prey here" came the voice of Charlie. Her voice was contorted and deep, evil. I tried to keep as still as possible, not realizing my left hand was just poking out from under the bed.

A pair of feet entered the room. The room was dark. I had shut off my lights and TV as to not arouse suspicion. The footstep stopped then, before I heard laughter and my hand being grabbed...

"David! David! Wake up!" Vaggie exclaimed, shaking me. She and Nifty had heard my screaming. Charlie rushed in, Angel Dust in tow. Charlie was alarmed, and reached for my hand, squeezing it. I woke up instantly. Taking deep breaths, I looked around. Charlie frowned.

"What happened?" she asked. I was silent, frowning. "I just..I want to be left alone."

Unlike earlier, Vaggie vehemently shook her head. She placed a call, Angel rubbing my back as Charlie sat next to me.

They say The Man comes around. This time, the Mother comes around.
