The Princess Groom

Ch.11: Silence of the Lambs

Unbeknownst of this development, Charlie was sitting in the lobby with Vaggie, watching Tom & Jerry. The two were laughing along to their hijinks as I opened the front door and walked in. Angel had walked me back but had to leave again on a "Mission."

Shrugging, I walked over to the couch, nervously checking myself over. Was I ready for this? There was only one way to do any of this right. If I was to marry Charlie...Hell, even someday rule with her...

Anyways, hearing the footsteps, Charlie turned her head to me. I was silent as I walked over to her side of the couch. Then, it occurred.

I dropped to one knee, popping open a small black box to reveal a ruby red ring. No words were spoken as Charlie's eyes welled with happy tears. She nodded eagerly, smiling as I slipped it on her left ring finger. Though Vaggie was keeping a poker face as she watched, I knew she was pleased.

Charlie smiled, pulling out her phone and scrolling to a number so quick that it was like she knew the number by heart. It answered on the first ring to reveal the sophisticated yet benevolent voice of Lucifer Morningstar.

"Good morning, Charlie! I trust you are calling with good news? Speaking of which, how is David?"

At his mansion, Lucifer's eyes widened as he choked up, hearing the news. Lilith came in, straightening her hair, confused at the cheer Lucifer had allowed to escape from his lips. Needless to say, Lilith cried tears of joy.

Lucifer thought on an idea. He had not met me face to face yet, and there was some lamb in the freezer that needed to be eaten. He decided.

"Charlie, would you and David like to come over for dinner? It would be my classic lamb and fried potatoes."

Having accepted without a second thought, Charlie and I kept company to pass the time. Vaggie congratulated her and gave me a nod. "So, what should I know about Lucifer?" I asked the two. We had turned off the TV, enjoying the company.

"There is one thing" Vaggie said. "Don't call him sir. He hates it."

"Why?"

Charlie shook her head with a laugh. "He thinks its demeaning. Like by saying that, someone doesn't respect him enough to call him by name."

I nodded in understanding, having met people that felt the same way.

"Also" Charlie said. "If you get nervous, don't worry. Dads kinda expecting you to be."

A question occurred here, and I quietly asked Vaggie to leave for a moment. She smiled and did with a wink, deciding to go bother Husker, who was playing a game at the pool table by the bar.

I took a deep breath. "Charlie" I said, taking her left hand. "I can't get a girl pregnant. Like there's no way it will ever happen. T-that doesn't bother you, does it?"

I looked down. Within my deepest subconscious, that had been my biggest worry. Charlie silently moved her head over to me, surprising me with a kiss on the cheek.

"Nope. I like you for you, David. Flaws and all. I used to hate, and I mean HATE, that Mom and Dad wrapped me up in this. It was like my choices didn't matter. But as I watched you" she brightened, "I grew a crush. No one is perfect, and that's okay" she said.

I could not help but blink away a few tears. Husker allowed a smile, watching from the table. "He's a good kid, Vaggie. Remind me to make him a seven and seven on the house later."

That would be later. The hours struck to Five in the evening quickly.

It was time to meet The Man in Black.
