The Princess Groom
Ch.12: Dinner and Dessert
"We're here, Charlie!" Dazzle cheered, steering the limo to a stop. Charlie and I, in a conversation about wedding wear, stopped shortly. I gazed at the building before me. I did not have to be told that Lucifer and company were wealthy. It was clear to me already.
Charlie smiled; a tad embarrassed. I turned to her, going to say something. However, I was interrupted as the car door opened. Charlie and I looked upon Lilith's smiling face.
"Evening! Hello, son in law!" Lilith grinned, moving to let me and Charlie out of the limo. The car door shut, Razzle and Dazzle drove off to next door, where a huge garage sat. A bored guard clicked a button, allowing the limo access.
Turning to the house and the stairs, Lilith led us up. My anticipation was building.
"All my friends are heathens take it slow" Lucifer sang as he flipped a lamp chop in a sizzling pan. He smiled as he listened to the human song. He had to admit it. The mortals could make catchy tunes.
He wore an apron that said, "World's best Dad," a gift from Charlie the year prior. He pondered what he felt. Damm, was his daughter growing up. Sure, he liked Vaggie well enough. And he tried hard not to think of the jerk Charlie had "dated" in high school. Alastor had some fun with the guy. That memory made Lucifer chuckle as we entered the kitchen, a kitchen that was and is so much a chef's dream that it is impossible to describe.
"Thinking about Charlie's lover from high school again?" came Lilith's voice. Lucifer turned to her. "Oh, of course. The lambs going to be done soon. I had Mary set up the table." Mary was Lucifer and Lilith's head house cleaner, a headstrong demoness that can dress a table so amazing that it brings tears to eyes and hands to heads in order to salute.
"Where's my incoming son in law?" Lucifer asked curiously. Lilith parted to show me and Charlie hand in hand, wearing nice attire, but not enough for it to be considered overkill.
Lucifer gestured me over to him. I looked to Charlie for confirmation. She let go of my hand but followed me as moral support. As tall as Lilith is, Lucifer is shorter, being about my height.
"Ah, its time we finally meet. Charlie, go ahead and get the red wine from my room." Charlie looked to her dad, then to me. "I just wanna talk to him, Charlie. That's all. If I didn't threaten Vaggie, why would I threaten him?"
"If I may" I said quietly as Charlie left, Lilith having sat at the table, "The fact that I wear a cross could be good enough."
Lucifer quickly shook his head. "David, young David. I may have my issues with my father. But I wouldn't disparage anyone for what they believe. If you wish to say the Lord's prayer and wear that cross, I have no problem with it. My motto is "Do what you will." Not control everyone's lives.
"I know you are scared of all this. Terrified that I will hurt you. David, I remember looking upon your sleeping face when I made that deal with your mother. If I dared hurt you, I would give up my rule in a heartbeat. I will have deserved it.
"You and Charlie will be well. I find you to be a kind young man. One worthy of all the love ever created. So" he said setting the spatula down on the counter and turning to me, opening his arms. "Embrace me my son."
I was astonished. This... the Man in Black was not what I expected. I had expected a hardened general, not a goofy yet loving King. I blinked. There was no going back. Due to my past, I knew genuine when I saw it.
Charlie returned then, smiling as I hugged her dad. The oven beeped then. Dinnertime had come.
The food had been heavenly. The lamb chops seasoned just right. The potatoes fried but not burnt. The conversation had touched a lot- including Lucifer and Lilith conceiving Charlie. Allegedly, it had been in a limo.
However, the topics also included me and Charlie. Sensing our hesitation in being romantic, Lucifer had stated it was a good thing. The time would come for all of that.
As we rode back to the Hotel, Charlie and I looked at each other, considering. Charlie leaned over, knocking on the window that separated the drivers from their passengers.
"Drive around town, guys. David and me wanna have fun" she said unbuttoning her shirt.
Our hair got messed up. Charlie's makeup got ruined. And I would need a cold shower.
"Fuck yes!" Charlie cheered as we walked into the hotel lobby. Angel chuckled from the pool table. Him, Alastor, Vaggie, and Nifty were engaged in a game of Pool, while Husker was taking a nap in his room. There were questions on their minds, but Angel asked the most obvious to me as I made my way to the stairs.
"Was Charlie pleased?"
I smirked, even cackling. "Several times, motherfucker!" I said, giggling as I made my way upstairs. Charlie grinned, heading to her office/room.
While it was all fun, the next day was a reminder that even Alastor had a lot to say.
He had a story too.
