The Princess Groom

Ch.13: Counsel

The sun was shining, the birds were singing their masterpieces, and I walked back into my room from doing my business the next morning, I spotted a note on my bedside table. The name David was written on the top of the page.

I tilted my head in confusion. Who was it? Did Nifty need to tell me something? Maybe Charlie was going to be gone for the day?

Anyways, I strided forward to the note, and picked it up. From the red ink, I knew immediately who it was.

David,

I hope this finds you in good health. I have written to you on this day out of observation. Last night, I watched you and Charlie return from your double date in love and having done private things.

Husker and Nifty can tell you that I am private. I feel it important to tell you that when I was on Earth, I was in love with a woman. We were of different races and were engaged when she was taken into the eternal.

While its all-in good fun to make love, I think you and Charlie need to enjoy the moments. Do not be afraid to slow down and enjoy the dance rather than ride the lightning.

-Alastor

I set down the note, thinking. It was true that me and Charlie had fun the previous night. But were we going too fast? It was something to think about. More important was Alastor. I learned a detail from that note- he was alone.

It may have been true that we had not spoken much in my few days there, but I did like him enough.

With that, I sat down, writing a response.

When I stepped into the lobby, Alastor was alone. He was sitting at the gaming table, reading the newspaper. His eyebrow furrowed as he heard footsteps. I handed him the note and stepped back.

I have chosen to not divulge its contents. Some things are meant to be private. I will say that after reading, Alastor nodded at me, and said "Thank you" in a soft voice , offering a handshake.

Being cautious, and acknowledging his immense power, I did not accept his hand, but I did offer a fist bump. He chuckled and took it. Our attention turned then to Charlie, who had quietly entered the area, wearing her Blue Pajamas.

"Morning David. Can we talk in my office?"
