A/N: Happy Sunday everyone. Here's another chapter for you.

Chapter Six

Jon POV

It's been seven days. I've been avoiding her. She knows it. I can see her studying me from across the table, scrutinizing me with those beautiful meadow eyes of hers. Instantly I avert my gaze. I can't look at her without breaking down and asking for her forgiveness. Clary has tried to question me about the other night, but I can't, I can't tell her. After that first morning when she was playing it cool and I thought I was given a reprieve, she quickly changed her tune and started to prompt the subject of that night whenever she could. I tried to play it down, but she knows me too well. Excuses like, "The Change of scenery has affected me," have had no impact. It's been easier to hide. I've been leaving the institute at dawn and returning in the middle of the night. Every night, I have found her in my bed, sleeping. I contemplated carrying her back to her own bedroom, but the idea of waking her, facing her; it's been easier to quietly lie down next to her. If I'm being absolutely honest with myself, I like her so close, sleeping next to me and seeking my nearness in her sleep. I like it too much. And herein lies the problem.

I get ripped out of my thoughts by Maryse, "There's been a sighting of a greater demon. Tonight, I want you to investigate only. Do not engage. Guys, just try and find out why there is a greater demon snooping around in our territory, but under no circumstance stand in his way. Got it Jace?" Maryse looks at him pointedly. I have to swallow a grin.

"Why do you always have to pick on me, Maryse? I'm not the only one going on mission." Jace sounds annoyed. The thought gives me immense pleasure.

"Because Jace, we all know that you in particular love to engage in a bloody fight. Now, do as I asked, please." Maryse gives the guy a stern look. I'm enjoying this way too much. I'm glad I made it here for this.

I can see that dumbass realising that this is a fight he will not win. "Yes Maryse, I won't engage," he utters under his breath. But I see a grin passing his face, oh no what now. "Clary is on my team," he shouts across quickly. I see him smirking knowingly at my sister and my blood starts to boil. But this is what I wanted, right? To be away from her. I regain my composure within seconds, before there is any actual blood spilling happening. To be fair, I've been managing my hot temper much easier since that awful night. I guess killing amongst other unmentionable things, is good for something. It has actually helped me keep my head straight for once.

"Jon, you're with us then," Izzy smiles at me seductively, I think? She needs to get that idea out of her head, pronto. I see Clary making her way round the table towards me, but before she can reach me I turn to Izzy, "Let's go then," and I rush towards the door. Really, I want to run, but that would look suspicious. So I walk as fast as I can. I can hear Clary behind me shouting at me to wait, but I'm out the door already and I don't turn around.

We're at an abandoned building sight. Izzy and Alec are scouting the bottom floors and I'm searching upstairs. Izzy was keen on teaming up with me, but I made a point of highlighting my independent work ethic on missions. I'm walking through one room after another, but this place seems truly empty.

I open my senses to the surrounding areas and hear Alec and Izzy arguing from below.

"I can't believe that he wouldn't let me join him Alec. Me. I made an effort, too," I hear Alec laughing at her in response. "Perhaps you're not his type Izz, get over it." To which Izzy snarls, "Shut up Alec, I'm everyone's type." She says something else, but I've already tuned out.

Yeah, she's like the polar opposite to my type. The colours red and green cross my mind, but I ignore it. Fuck I need a brain transplant. I hope Clary is ok. We've not done that much demon hunting in the past, but I've trained her well and she's unbelievably fast, so I'm sure she'll do fine. Suddenly I hear a very quiet moan from far away. Without thinking I run in the direction of the sound.

I enter one of the rooms furthest away. The area is lit by candles. It's eerily quiet now. I notice that the candles are positioned in a circle shape. In the middle of the circle lies a corpse. No. Not a corpse. I can hear a very faint heartbeat. I move closer and notice that the figure has pointy ears sticking out from behind the hair. The hair belongs to a slight frame. As I get closer, I recognise that it is an unconscious female fairy. I approach the circle slowly, trying to determine what to do. Should I just walk into the circle? I could reach out with my hand to test it, but what if there's some kind of magic surrounding this creature and I lose my limb. Wouldn't want that… I hear a gust of wind behind me and suddenly I can feel claws scraping at my chest. Everything happens so quickly. I'm pinned to the wall now. I can't move.

"Hello Jonathan." I look up slowly, still feeling dazed from the rush of air. I see a man, a middle aged man with claws instead of hands, which are currently ever so slightly impaling my chest. Well isn't this a great situation I got myself into and what a bitch, of course it's the greater demon.

"How do you know my name," I ask coolly, trying not to show my panic.

The greater demon studies me, then smiles knowingly, "I know many things. I probably know more about you than just your name."

"Like what?" I ask. Who the fuck is this guy? My chest hurts, but I can't free myself. He's stronger than me.

"Wouldn't you like to know." He stares at me and almost looks amused. "I could tell you, but I've been told that it isn't time yet."

"Time for what?" I ask slowly and wonder what crack this guy is on.

He makes a 'tsk tsk' sound, then looks at me. Smiles. Pauses and adds, "Valentine sends his regards." Panic rushes through me like an avalanche. My cool attitude is cracking and I can feel myself crumbling apart. That name. Then something hard hits my skull and I lose consciousness.

Clary POV

We've been scouting downtown New York for this illusive demon, but nothing. I wonder if the others had more luck.

"So Clary, for a chic you're pretty strong. I like a girl that can kick ass." He's still obsessing over me beating him in that fight a week ago. Jace has placed himself in front of me, walking backwards as I'm moving forwards. I hope he runs into a lamppost.

I chuckle, "Watch yourself, I can easily kick you on your ass right now."

He smiles at me sexily, "Only if you kiss it better for me, Clary."

I blush at that, "Whatever Jace. I hope you get run over walking backwards."

"Aggressive, too. I like that even more. And with that blush you're looking super hot right now." He continues smiling at me confidently. Is he for real?

"Shut up Jace, or I will make you regret it," I shout.

"Only if you promise to kiss me with those pouty lips of yours," he suddenly stops, closes his eyes and leans towards me with his lips formed into a kiss. What a jerk. I push him to the side and walk past him. Instantly he's in front of me again. "No problem, Clary. I can wait. I know for a fact that before the month ends you will want to kiss me," he winks at me and looks at me expectantly as if he likes hearing my comebacks.

I ignore him instead and change the subject. "So, looks like no greater demon. Shall we head back?"

"Nah, it's too early for that. The night is young. How about an adventure? Actually, a dare would be fun. Unless you're too much of a scary cat for that, Clary?"

I know he's bating me, but I can't resist him. "What dare?" I am intrigued.

"Follow me and I'll show you." He glances at me confidently, "That is if you won't back out."

"Not a chance."

We're in front of a vampire MC bar. "So you want me to steal a motorbike? Is that it?" I turn to Jace and see him watching me instead of the target.

"It's not just any motorbike, Clary. It's a flying motorcycle."

At that, my ears perk and I smile at him with wonder, "A flying motorbike?" I can't believe it. I can already picture myself on it. I head towards the MC bar and turn around to Jace quickly, adding, "Wait for my sign, we'll have to manage a quick escape."

"What's the plan, Clary? What sign?" He shouts after me sounding almost panicked. I think he's starting to regret this dare. But I don't back down from a challenge, ever. Besides, I know what I'm doing.

I zip open my leather jacket, pull down my top to expose my cleavage, I push up my breasts a little bit to give the guys something distractible to look at. Then I tie my T-shirt at the waist, just high enough to expose my belly button. I untie my hair and let the waves fall to my back. I ruffle it a little to add volume. I add a couple of runes. I'm good to go. I turn to Jace and see him gawking. "You will know the signal when you see it," I shout back as I make my way towards the bar.

I walk up confidently, swinging my hips and smiling seductively. There's a voice at the back of my mind telling me to stop being stupid and to turn around. The voice sounds a lot like a boy I know, a boy who's been avoiding my presence this past week. A sharp pain travels through my chest at the thought of that and I try to avert my thoughts, of how he's been so cold towards me these past seven days, how he's been avoiding my company and how even tonight he's ignored me. I felt like a fool calling after him and I saw Izzy's sympathetic glance at me. She's been trying to find out the cause of our squabble, but I can't tell her, telling her would expose Jon.

I've been dreaming of that night, of how he looked, the blood soaking him, the sheer pain in his eyes. I've been waiting in his bedroom every night, wanting to force him to confide in me. At the same time, I've found comfort in his room, even without him being there. Sleep would find me and the nightmares would come, but then I would wake up and see him next to me. I would take in his form and instantly feel safe. I would cuddle into him, and the dreams would stay away. I know he's been escaping me at dawn, but at least he hasn't tried to push me out again. Knowing that he was there, next to me, it gives me a little hope that we'll be fine, eventually.

I return to the presence. I eye the vampires and see a guy near a purple motorbike chatting to a woman. I want the purple one. I walk towards the bike and stop in front of it. I drop my keys to the floor and slowly bend over to grab them, making sure to push out my ass a bit in his general direction. I know my thong is poking out of my jeans, so I'm giving the guy something distracting to look at. I slowly get up and stop to admire the beautiful machine. I start my countdown, five, four, three…

"Hey sexy, I see you checking out my bike."

I turn around smiling flirtatiously, "Yes," I say slowly, "It is a beautiful machine." I twirl my curls with my finger and add, "Could I possibly get on it?" I flatter my lashes at him for good measure.

He smirks, then nods towards the bike, "Hop on pretty." I stroke it lovingly before getting on it. It is a gorgeous piece. I make myself comfortable. I then look up at the vampire who is occupied with eying me hungrily. I make my voice sound really innocent. "Could you show me how to operate this wondrous motorcycle, please?" I add another eye flutter.

He smiles devilishly, as he gets on behind me. I can feel him sliding his hands across my hips, he's also sniffing me. My insides churn at that, I want to stab him really painfully, but I don't. "Hmm you smell delicious, anyone ever tell you that?" He rasps his voice, then takes my hand and starts pointing out various buttons, showing me how to operate the bike. At the same time I continue allowing him physical contact. For now.

I lean back a little and ask seductively, "Could I take you on a ride?"

He sniffs me again, "Only if I can take you out afterwards pretty girl."

As if, "Of course," I smile. We then get off and I start pushing the bike outside. I push it a little further than is necessary, getting as far away from any potential witnesses as possible.

The vampire stops by my side and I hold up my arm to indicate for him to wait. I start pulling my hair up to put it in a bun. "Ouch, I think my hair is stuck in the zipper. Could you untangle it for me, please?" The guy eagerly moves behind me to help the damsel in distress. He's distracted, it takes me ten seconds to incapacitate him.

"I'm impressed Clary," Jace is here looking at me approvingly.

I lift the vampire's arms, "A little help, please?" Jace helps me move the undead behind a bush. We then jump onto the bike. I test the machine and we set off into the sky.

Xxx

"It's beautiful," I shout at Jace. He's sitting behind me, holding me by my waist, his head is resting on my shoulder. I think he's enjoying this position way too much. We've been flying across the night sky for the last thirty minutes and I'm feeling high from the experience. Jace has been pointing things out to me, favourite places and so on. It's been really fun. The most fun experience in a very long time. I'm feeling free and incredibly overjoyed, like the whole city could belong to me. I want to see and explore it all. I would love to have Jonathan here, he would love this, but once again I do my best to push the Jonathan related thoughts aside.

"My turn," Jace shouts through the wind.

I find a roof to land on and we jump off. "This," I point at the bike, "This was incredible." I jump at him and give Jace a hug, then realise what I've done and stumble back quickly. For Angel's sake, I can feel my cheeks flushing red again. I see Jace taking me in. There is a strange look in his face. He leans towards me slowly, I think he's going to kiss me…

"Well, well, well if it isn't the pretty red hair Shadowhunter and her accomplice."

We look up startled out of our moment. We're surrounded. Ten children of the dead have circled us in, staring at us mischievously. "How did you find us so quickly?" I shout at the guy from the bar, trying to sound unaffected.

"Tracker of course," he chuckles self assuredly. "I guess, you didn't ask enough questions pretty, did you now?"

The vampires start to move closer to us. I pull out my seraph blade and hear Jace whispering, "Get ready."

A/N: Sorry for the cliffhanger! And yes, of course Valentine is going to show up to cause some trouble. I'll update soon :)
