I felt like 'Run Away' from Harlan Coben missed an explanation on how everything went so wrong with Paige, so I wanted to make a chapter where it is all about Paige becoming a freshman and moving into the Campus. Basically, where it all started.
CHAPTER
ONE
Where it all started.
"You got everything Paige?"
Simon asked when Paige walked out of her bedroom
"Yes dad, I have everything"
"Your toothbrush to, and all your books?"
"Yes dad, don't worry. And if I did forget something I can come back in the weekend and take it with me!"
"You could also call, then I will bring it to you."
"That's really not necessarily dad! But thanks. Can we go now otherwise we're going to be late."
They all got in the car, including their dog Laszlo.
They are driving out of Manhattan en out of New York. Paige see's the city where she has lived her whole life go away and getting smaller and smaller in the distance. The landscape is turning into wide-open green space and woodland. Nothing relatable with the city.
Paige is really looking forward to this new chapter of her life. She is a little bit sceptic and nervous about the fact that she is going to need to make new friends and meet a lot of people. But on the other hand, she is also looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends especially studying whit her classmates and meeting her roommate.
An hour later they arrive at the campus. Paige checks in and gets the keys for her room. They all walk up the stairs to the dorm rooms and Paige opens her room. In the room are 2 beds, 2 desks and 1 big closet. The room has a pinkish colour, just how Paige likes it. It's perfect. A girl is sitting on one of the beds and is reading a book. She stands up and walks to Paige.
"Hey! My name is Sophie and I will be your roommate this year!"
"Hi! I'm Paige and this are my parents, my brother Sam and sister Anya."
"Nice to meet you all! You can just drop your bags somewhere and then we can walk around Town and discover where everything is."
"Okay, sounds fun!"
"Will you girls be okay?" Simon asks.
"Of course dad, don't worry! You guys can go home if you want, I will see you next weekend!"
Paige kisses them goodbye and walks out of the dorm with Sophie. They walk between the trees for a while and then they bump into a group of boys or more likely man's they don't look like freshman's nor seniors.
"Hello girls, how are you?" One of them asks
There hangs a weird smell around them, like they have been smoking something. Paige is not sure what it is, but she decides that she will just reply politely to the question on of them asked.
"We are alright, how are you guys?"
"We are fine to, thanks."
"May I ask who you are? Because you don't look like freshman's nor seniors"
"That's because we also aren't freshman's nor seniors, it's been six years that we were in our senior year. We just still come here because we don't have anywhere else to go"
"I'm Aaron, that's Jack and that is Bob."
"Nice to meet you guys! We are Sophie and Paige"
"Come sit with us, want a cigarette?"
Paige has never smoked before, but a new chapter of her life also means trying new thinks, so she takes the cigarette. She lights the cigarette with the lighter she gets from Aaron and takes a deep breath. She inhales a little too hard which makes her cough a lot. Luckily there's Aaron to the rescue who explains how to do it the right way.
After 2 hours of talking, smoking and some drugs Paige and Sophie are on their way back to their dorm. Paige has now a crush on Aaron and can't stop thinking and talking about him. They made an appointment to meet every Saturday on the same bench and do the same thing as they did today: Talk, smoke and take drugs. It will probably be for the best that Paige won't tell her parents about it.
Days pas and it's Saturday again, they are sitting on the bench and Paige get's her first kiss from Aaron.
She spends more and more time with Aaron and hardly goes to her lessons. Eventually she just stops with going to her lessons, and she moves with Aaron back to New York and they start to live together. She didn't tell her parent's about anything of this so they have still no idea about all the things that happened, but they will soon find out.
