AN: I OWN NOTHING

Day two of the academy was just as boring as the first day, they were beginning to learn history, the founding of the village and more. Naruto supposed he found it a bit interesting, he tried paying attention, but he caught his thoughts drifting a few times.

Sasuke next to him seemed to be paying attention but when he looked closer he also seemed to have zoned out. 'The bastard is probably meditating.' Naruto thought as he turned his attention back to Iruka. "Naruto, what was the reason for the start of the hidden village system?"

Luckily he had been paying attention during that part of the lecture, "There was constant war, the hidden village system was started to try and put an end to the war. It sort of worked, conflict became less because of agreements between the village leaders that had come to be known as Kage."

Mizuki looked at him with narrowed eyes, "Sort of? Explain." He demanded before Iruka could say anything. Naruto held the man's gaze, "The system lowered the rate of conflict throughout the elemental nations, but when serious conflict did arise it was in a much larger scale than before."

"Very good, Naruto." Iruka cut in, giving the boy a genuine smile. He looked around the class and spotted a sleeping student, "Shikamaru, you can tell us the clans that founded the Hidden Leaf and the clans that came soon after."

The dark haired boy lifted his head and sighed, "What a drag… The Hidden Leaf was founded by the Senju and Uchiha they were the strongest clans in the land of fire at the time so other clans soon came to join the alliance. The Nara, Akamichi and Yamanaka were among the first to join as they already had an alliance between each other. The Hyuga, Sarutobi and somewhat reclusive Aburame followed after."

Iruka was surprised that the boy knew the answer but he didn't let it show, "Good, we'll be having lunch soon, so I'll let you out a little early, on account of being good students."

Everyone exited the class Sasuke and Naruto leaving last. They went to the roof again this time Sasuke sat next to Naruto on the edge and looked at the others below them. "I can't train with you for the rest of the week. Father is teaching me a jutsu and I want to be able to do it properly as soon as I can. I'll ask Shisui to come to you if he's there when I get to the compound."

"Well he better be there I don't want you to know more jutsu than me." Naruto said crossing his arms. Sasuke chuckled, "Don't worry, it won't be any fun if I'm too much better than you." Naruto looked at him for a while, "Fine, tell him he can meet me at the usual spot if he's back."

When Sasuke got to the compound after classes, he started by going to Shisui's place. Shisui lived alone, not too far away from the clan head's house, it was a humble home almost like an apartment except it was more spacious, it also had two rooms and a library/workstation. Shisui's Father had died before he was born, he'd fallen ill with some sort of disease and his mom died on a mission gone wrong when he was three.

Sasuke knocked on the front door. "Come in!" at that he opened the door and went inside the sight that greeted him was a weird one, Shisui was wearing a pink apron and had matching oven mitts, making what appeared to be muffins.

"Yo" Shisui said, clearly comfortable with the situation he was caught in.

"Yeah… Anyway, Naruto needs you to teach him some stuff… I kind of promised I would get you to teach him two jutsu so he would teach me the Earth Clone jutsu. I also taught him the Body Flicker." Sasuke said smiling and rubbing his head sheepishly.

Shisui set the muffin tray down as he whistled, "Wow, you really wanted to know how to make solid huh?" When Sasuke looked away and crossed his arms, Shisui laughed and continued, "He beat you using them and the super cool jutsu I taught him right?"

Sasuke glared at Shisui, "Something like that. It's fine anyway father is teaching me the Grand Fireball today and I want Itachi to teach me something else as well so that we're almost equal in the number of jutsu that we each know."

Shisui raised an eyebrow, "Almost?"

Sasuke smirked, "I picked up a little something extra, you can teach Naruto an extra jutsu if you want."

"They grow up so fast, you used to be excited about telling me how you properly pooped in the toilet not too long ago. Look at you now, so secretive and ninja like already, Itachi should be proud." Shisui said wiping a mock tear from his eye.

Sasuke blushed, "I would never tell you that."

Shisui laughed, "Okay I'll teach your friend two maybe three jutsu that I think he could use creatively. How's your progress with the Body Flicker?"

Sasuke sighed, "Good I guess, I've gotten my accuracy down to the size of two dinner plates instead of just one and I haven't been making anymore progress. I can also do it without hand signs. I think my speed needs more work though." Sasuke never caught Shisui's eyes widen a fraction, 'This kid… usually only high level chunin and jonin are that accurate with that jutsu.'

"Well colour me impressed, you little monster. You want me to give you a way to work on your speed and stamina when it comes to using that jutsu?" Shisui asked, when Sasuke nodded he continued, "Well Sasuke, you see the clan symbols on the inside wall around district? I want you to get up every morning before most are up, before you even shower and use the Body Flicker to go from symbol to symbol. You'll start slow and then build speed daily."

"What about my accuracy with the jutsu though?"

"Don't worry about it, at this point it'll only get better through practice, now go it isn't wise to keep your father waiting." Shisui said as he was also about to get ready to go see Naruto.

When Sasuke got home his mother told him that his father would be waiting for him at the river that ran through the Uchiha district. He dropped off his bag and ran there, when he got there his father was facing the river.

"You took your time Sasuke" Fugaku said without turning around.

"Sorry about that, I had to pass by Shisui's place, he gave me some advice on how to get better with the Body Flicker." Sasuke said coming to a stop next to his father, he was now also looking across the river.

"Mmh I see, well then let's get started. The Grand Fireball jutsu is a right of passage in the Uchiha clan. We consider those who can perform this jutsu an adult within the are the hand signs you need." With that Fugaku formed six hand signs slowly so Sasuke could see and commit them to memory, after he formed the last one he took a deep breath and a giant slow moving fireball came out of his mouth, it was about five meters in diameter. Fugaku let his jutsu fade and stepped back.

Sasuke stepped to the edge of the dock, where his father had just stood, He went through the hand signs and took a deep breath and let out a fireball, it was much smaller than Fugaku's it was only a meter in diameter.

Fugaku watched his son, "I suppose it was good for a beginner, but I expect nothing less from my son" Internally Fugaku was more than impressed that there was even that much fire, according to Itachi, Sasuke had an affinity for lightning. "Practice more and soon you'll have this jutsu mastered."

Sasuke smiled and nodded. When Fugaku had left Sasuke practiced a few more times, trying his best to make the jutsu more effective. Sometimes he made it bigger, other times he made it hotter and he even got it to come out as a stream instead of an orb. He'd burned his lips a bit from all the practice. He decided to sit and meditate for a bit before he completely drained himself.

He healed the skin around his lips with medical ninjutsu after his meditation. It was no where near as good as his mom's but it was a start. He smiled to himself, he got his reserves back to three quarters full. It was beginning to get dark. He'd practice the body flicker before he went home, his goal was two laps around the compound. With that in mind he disappeared from where he was in a Body Flicker, he didn't even leave a puff of smoke or leaves, he could feel that he was getting better already.

A blond sat down in the forest with five piles of dirt in front of him. He looked up at the tree behind when he heard a whistle.

"That's quite impressive, beating five of yourself while only taking minimum damage."

"Shisui senpai, how long were you watching?" Naruto asked the Uchiha.

"I saw the entire thing. Why didn't you use the Propelling Winds jutsu?" Shisui asked having observed that Naruto kept it strictly taijutsu in the fight, 'This kid might just be as monstrous as Sasuke.'

Naruto just looked up at the sky, it wasn't too late in the afternoon, he noted, "Well you see, the clones can't use ninjutsu and they're already slow, if I used jutsu it would be too easy." He had noted mistakes that his clones made, he supposed he also made those mistakes they were him after all.

"Good point. If you get faster, though, they will also get faster." Shisui said giving the boy some advice. "Anyway get up Naruto I'm here to teach you not one, but two jutsu that I think can suite your style. First we have the Wind style: Great Breakthrough"

Shisui went through a few hand signs slowly, inhaled and blew out a powerful wind, many trees had slashes on them, some were very deep others not so much. When he looked back at Naruto, the blond had stars in his eyes.

"That was so cool senpai." Naruto said dreamily and went through the hand signs, 'Wind style: Great Breakthrough' and a powerful wind, stronger than Shisui's even, blew through the area, many more trees had slashes and some branches had even fell off trees in the area.

Shisui whistled, "Well done I never guessed you'd have it down in one. You just need a bit more practice." He really was impressed. "Now then I'm going to teach you an Earth style jutsu, the Earth style: Earth Flow River" once again Shisui went through hand signs slowly and in front of him the ground turned into a small river of flowing mud it took a tree stump with it.

Naruto nodded, did the hand signs, he created a much smaller, shallower, and slower river than Shisui's. Shisui chuckled, "You'll get it soon. Keep practicing it's harder than doing a wind jutsu because you don't have an affinity for earth."

Naruto kept practicing late into the afternoon under Shisui's watchful eye. He was slowly getting better with the Earth jutsu and he was much better at controlling his Great Breakthrough. When he was feeling like he'd done enough the clearing was quite a mess.

"Try not to cause too much destruction next time, this isn't an official training ground, you wouldn't want trouble with Lord Hokage, would you?" Shisui asked with a grin.

"Oh crap, you'll cover for me right senpai?" Naruto asked feeling hopeful.

Shisui raised an eyebrow, "Me? But my young disciple, I was never even here." With that he disappeared and the wind carried his chuckles to Naruto's ears.

Naruto was left on his own gaping, "How could you!" He also made a break for it at that moment.

In a building with the character for fire in the center of the village, the Hokage sat smoking his pipe looking into a crystal ball which could show him parts of the village which weren't warded with seals like the clan compounds were. He laughed when he saw the look on Naruto's face as Shisui disappeared.

He kept tabs on Naruto using the crystal ball some of the time, it was about two years ago when he discovered that the blond made a friend. The village had shunned the boy, Hiruzen had always worried this might turn Naruto against the village. When he saw Naruto train with the boy named after his father, Sasuke, he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time, hope.

Over time he saw the boys grow through his crystal ball, he could already see that they were both genius. They would be monsters when they were on the battle field one day. He looked at the pictures on his wall, specifically the last one of a blond haired man with blue eyes. "You would be proud of him."

A knock interrupted his thoughts, he glanced at the crystal ball and saw Naruto leave his makeshift training area in haste, this made him smile. He put the ball away and faced the door, "Enter."

The door opened slowly, and a dark haired man with bandages on the left side of his face and an "x" shaped scar on his chin came inside, the clang of his walking stick accompanied him, "Hiruzen." He greeted, the lack of formal greeting was telling of the man's status.

The Hokage made a hand sign, and from the shadows four ANBU appeared, "Leave us." They disappeared and the door shut. "Danzo, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Hiruzen asked his old friend.

"I am here to discuss the jinchuriki." Danzo said taking a seat opposite Hiruzen. The Hokage sighed, they had been over this so many times he hadn't bothered to keep count. "If you'd let me take him under-"

"We've been over this multiple times Danzo. Naruto will have nothing to do with root. I will not have him be a mindless tool." The Hokage said taking another puff from his pipe.

"So you'd rather let him be a tool for the Uchiha? My agents have been keeping tabs on him too." He explained before he could be asked. "You know we cannot trust them, Hiruzen, they have been withdrawing from the village lately."

"They withdraw further and further because the village treats them with distrust, besides if your men have been keeping tabs on Naruto and his friend then you'll know that besides Sasuke, the only Uchiha he's had contact with are Itachi and Shisui. Both of whom are among my most trusted." He felt as though he was getting too old for this.

"At this point I find it hard to even trust those two… If you won't let me take him into root then he should be punished for destroying property of the village. If you would let me handle it I could-"

"I'm not one who punishes youngsters who just want to improve 'll be fixed for them by tomorrow." Hiruzen said emptying his pipe.

Danzo used his good arm rub his temple, "So you'd use one of the village's most secret and valuable assets to clean up after that child?"

"Yes." Was the simple answer that came from the Hokage as he refilled his pipe.

"How long will you keep that up?"

Hiruzen lit his pipe again, "Until they become genin."

Danzo sighed, he got up to leave. "You'll regret not letting me take the boy, Hiruzen. At this point he's basically a ticking bomb that could go off if his emotions become too much for him to handle or a weapon for the Uchiha." He said as he made his way to the door. "I very much doubt that." Was the last thing Danzo heard as he closed the door on his way out.
