It was a beautiful day for most in Musutafu, Japan, the skies were clear, the weather was great and it wasn't too hot or too cold. The new unofficial capital of the new world as it was called due to the amount of hero agencies in the area and the overwhelming population of people, was well, peaceful.
It was a beautiful day for most.
Except for one kid walking down the street, his eyes downcast and his face fresh with tears. He had green hair, green eyes and freckles, with the physical fitness of a tree branch. His name was Izuku Midoriya and he was quirkless.
Someone who didn't have a special ability or unique aspect to them except for the fact that they were uniquely normal. Only 20% of the population were quirkless and most of them were from the older generation where it was more normal. Nowadays getting born quirkless was incredibly rare.
Izuku Midoriya was a smart kid with good grades so being quirkless wasn't much of a problem, say if he wanted to become a scientist or a police officer. But no, he didn't want to be any of those things. He wanted to be a Pro Hero, like his idol All Might.
The same idol who had crushed his dreams hours ago.
"Ma-Maybe he's right." Izuku said as he wiped his tears and stopped walking. Everyone else telling him he couldn't be a hero he could ignore. But the number one hero? There was no way he could be wrong. He took out a small notebook from his back, scanning it. He flipped to a page with All Might's signature.
Izuku ripped it out of the notebook and threw it in a garbage can.
Izuku decided to take a detour from his normal way home and found himself standing over the railing of Dagobah Beach, a trash dump that no one wanted to be near.
'I can relate,' Izuku thought as he looked at the obscured sunset with a fresh pair of tears trailing down his face. All his life he wanted just some kind of approval from someone. Even he knew his mom's attempts to support his dream were half-hearted. The only thing stopping him was his lack of a quirk, a genetic defect. He leaned on the railing more as he thought about what to do with his life.
'I could be a police officer or become a doctor, I know mom would like that.'
Izuku was about to leave to go home but suddenly he heard a creak in the railing. Izuku's eyes narrowed in confusion as the railing broke free from the hinges, sending Izuku tumbling forward into a pile of trash. Izuku yelled in fear as he curled into a fetal position and tumbled into the garbage.
"Ow! Wh- How is this place not condemned! Th-There has to be some health code violations or something!" Izuku yelled as he got up dusting himself off. His uniform was torn and he had some sand in his shoes
'First All Might crushes my dream and now I'm probably gonna get tetanus. Great.." Izuku thought, looking around the garbage, something catching his eye. It was a shoebox full of old trading cards and a-
"A watch?" Izuku thought as picked the box and looked through it. There were cards, medals, a circular disk with an hourglass, and a watch with the same symbol on its faceplate.
Suddenly a light emitted from the circular object and Izuku dropped the box in surprise. A hologram suddenly popped up from the disk, crossing his arms over his chest. It was a young boy with brown hair, wearing a black striped white t-shirt with green cargo pants. He had the watch in the box on his left hand as he began to speak.
"Do I really have to do this Grandpa? Can't we just leave a note or something?" The boy groaned as he spoke to a person outside of the camera's range. Izuku walked forward paying attention to the video as the boy coughed and began to read from a script.
"If you're watching this video then you activated the plumber badge that I'm being projected on right now. It has a universal translator so you should be able to understand me. The plumber badge only activates after scanning you and finding out if you're a good guy or not. Congratulations, dude, you're a good guy."The boy said as a voice from behind him told him to focus and to stop being a dweeb. The boy glared at something to the left of him as he continued.
"This is the Omnitrix," He pointed to the watch on his left hand, "And it's the most powerful weapon in the whole universe. You can use it to go alien. Oh, yeah aliens exist, forgot to tell you that. Dunno how far this is into the future and if everyone knows now but yeah."
Izuku's eyes widened. Aliens? And supposedly this projection was from the past. This all seemed too crazy as Izuku focused intensely on the hologram as the boy spoke again.
"Name's Ben Tennyson and I'm the current wielder of the thing. But if you're seeing this then I'm not anymore. Listen, I know this will sound insane but I need you to put it on and use it for good. As much as I hate to say it, it's not a toy and you should help people with it. Like really help them. People might try to get the watch but you can't let them get it. The plumber scanner thing thinks you're worthy of it and only a few people can be worthy of this thing. I believe that you can be a cool hero like me." Ben said grinning as Izuku's eyes watered at the words. Someone believed he could be a hero and wholeheartedly believed it. This watch or whatever it was, was entrusted to him to use for good. To be a hero.
"Now I'm not gonna give it to you right away okay? You gotta prove you're really worthy of it. It's one thing to be a good person but you have to be quick on your feet. You can't rely on the watch all time so I'm here to put you through one of the things all kids like me hate. Exercise." Ben said as a note ejected from the disk an Izuku picked it up and held it in his hands. It was an exercise routine called "Standard Plumbing Training".
"To tell you dude, I'm really really glad I'm not you right now. I 've seen the stuff Grandpa put there and," Ben shuddered, "Anyway, after completing the 9 months listed there, come back to the plumber badge and it'll scan your body to make sure you're athletic enough.
Now a tip between Omnitrix wielders. Always expect the worst. This watch has a sick sense of humor man I'm telling you right now. Another thing, there's another note in the box with all the aliens you can turn into. If something happens to the watch and you unlock some new ones, make sure to test them out in a safe environment as much as I hate to say it. Really don't want you to burn down a forest." Ben scratched the back of his head sheepishly as the recording ended. Izuku stood there, unwavering as he picked up the box in his hands.
'I can be a hero'
"Th-This sucks so much!" Izuku yelled as he finished the last of his reps, collapsing on the ground. It had only been a few months since he started and still didn't get any easier. He groaned as he got up and drank from a bottle of water. The routine definitely was working however as he was much more muscular than before and was a bit taller. He tore off his headphones from an mp3 player he had found in Ben's shoebox and panted.
After catching his breath for a few minutes he walked to his computer and started to browse the hero boards online. Izuku wasn't all that big about hero culture anymore, ever since that day on the rooftop. But he still liked to keep up to date on the news. His room was pretty much bare now, only having a few soccer posters that he found in his dad's closet and a few fitness equipment after a fit of rage made him tear down all his All Might memorabilia.
"Seriously a Mount Lady costume malfunction? Is there anything actually important happening nowadays?" Izuku muttered as he laid back in his chair. It was the weekend and exams were coming up soon, along with the U.A entrance exam which was a month away. Hopefully he could put on the Omnitrix in time for the exam.
Izuku's eyes switched their attention to a notebook on the left of his keyboard. It was like his others, but instead of "Hero Analysis for the Future" it was "Alien Analysis for the Future". It even had the hourglass symbol on the front of it.
The alien descriptions Ben had given him were bare bones so he had to theorize and make up plans to be able to use them effectively. He would have to put on the Omnitrix 3 hours before the entrance exam meaning he couldn't really test it out beforehand which was unfortunate.
'Some of these names aren't that great, but I guess a 10 year old did name them.'
"Still, what kind of name is Diamondhead anyway?" Izuku mumbled as his mom called him for dinner.
"Izuku! Dinner is ready!" His mom shouted.
"Coming, Mom!" Izuku shouted as he hurried to go eat.
An hour later he had found himself at Dagobah Beach, jogging on a path around it. It had a lot less trash and you could actually see the horizon somewhat. He didn't know who was cleaning it but was grateful. The beach had become his jogging spot and place to just unwind ever since that day on the rooftop. Izuku continued to jog until suddenly an explosion rang out on the beach.
Izuku's eyes widened as he ran to the source of the explosion, dodging and weaving through the trash as he coughed.
"Hello? Anyone here? If you are, are you okay?" Izuku said as he scanned the area of the explosion and his eyes flicked to a girl his age with pink hair and goggles on her head. She was wearing a tank top and shorts and had distinct crosshair pupils in her eyes.
"U-Uh h-hello?" Izuku raised his hand as the girl stared at him and sprung up holding her hand out towards Izuku.
"Hey! My name is Mei Hatsume and I am gonna be the world's greatest inventor!" Mei cackled as Izuku reluctantly shook her hand.
"A-Are you okay? I-I heard an explosion and-" Izuku was cut off as the girl named Mei grinned.
"Yep! One of my babies just exploded, don't worry it happens all the time!" Mei stated as Izuku's face morphed into confusion.
"B-Babies?" Izuku asked as the girl grinned even more and pointed to a smoldering pair of boots on the ground, smoke curling around it.
"My hoverboots combusted but I'm fine! What are you doing here? Are you here to steal my scraps?" Mei asked, her eyes zooming in on Izuku's bemused face.
"N-No, I was jogging and I heard the explosions so I came here to check it out. Name's Izuku Midoriya and I'm gonna be a hero." Izuku grinned as Mei looked at him, still suspicious.
"Well, okay then. Now if you excuse me I'm gonna make more babies!" Mei said as she strode over to a rusty table and began to work and suddenly Izuku had an idea. A way to get even stronger and help someone.
"Hey, uh, Hatsume? Do you want me to get some scraps for you? I don't have anything else better to do.." Izuku asked as Mei stood up and her face lit up.
"Yes! Okay, so I need some palladium from the cars, maybe a coffee machine or blender, if you can find a scooter that'd be great and-" Mei continued on and on as Izuku listened and got the parts she needed. By the time he was finished, it was late and it was time for him to go home.
Izuku looked concerned as Mei continued to work on her inventions, not paying attention to anything.
"U-Uh, Hatsume? Shouldn't you go home?" Izuku asked as Mei turned to him, confused.
"What do you mean? It's only 6." Mei waved him off as Izuku's head tilted to the left, staring at her.
"Hatsume it's about to be 9." Mei stood up wide-eyed as she looked at him in horror.
"Wh-What? Oh, no." Mei grabbed her tools and backpack and took off running. Izuku watched on as she sprinted away. Izuku sighed as he walked back home.
'That girl is pretty weird, but she seems okay. Plus Mom did say I need more friends.'
It was the day he had been training for for the past few months.
The U.A entrance exam.
Izuku stood up from his bed and opened his closet. There sat a familiar box from the day on the rooftop. He dug through it, sorting stuff and taking out both the Omnitrix and the small circular disk.
Suddenly, the disk lit up and rays began to scan him as the disk beeped and another hologram popped out. With Ben as a teenager, no longer wearing the Omnitrix on his left hand. He wore a green jacket with a 10 on the side and crossed his arms in front of his chest in a familiar manner.
"Wow, it's been a while, I almost forgot about this thing. Anyway, you've done it dude, you've gotten jacked from Grandpa's workout routines and you're ready to wield the Omnitrix. My memories are a bit fuzzy since it's been so long but just slip it on and it should recognize you as the new owner. Afterwards it bonds to you on a molecular level and you won't be able to take it off unless you do the override code. I forgot it, but it should be in the notes we gave you. It might take a bit to start up but as long as you don't have to use it anytime in the few hours you put it on you should be fine. That's all. I know you're gonna be a good wielder, make me proud and be extra awesome. Sayonara."
The transmission ended as Izuku looked at the clock. He had 3 hours until the entrance exam. Would that be enough? Izuku leaned forward and picked up the gray and white watch, cradling it in his hands. He slipped it on his left wrist and waited.
Nothing happened.
"W-Well, hopefully kicks in later," Izuku muttered as he got ready to eat breakfast.
Later, he arrived at the entrance of U.A with Mei by his side as they chatted about random things without really paying attention to anything. They were friends ever since that day at the beach and Izuku would drop by sometimes during his jog to fetch stuff for her. In return, she would make him some cool support items if he got in. He had adamantly refused to test out anything she made ever since her hoverboots exploded the first time, so she pouted at him and made him fetch some heavy stuff as retaliation.
"So Izuku, have you thought about what your costumes gonna be? Oh, please let me design it, I'll make you some super cute babies on your utility belt." Mei nearly salivated at the thought as Izuku shook her by the shoulders.
"Mei," Izuku said, trying to snap her out of it. Mei had insisted he address her by her first name so he started doing it, "I told you, my costume is gonna be simple. It's just a t-shirt and pants."
"Where's the fun in that?" Mei pouted at him. Her eyes zoomed in on the Omnitrix as her eyes widened.
"What's this Izuku?! You won't test out my babies but you'll use someone else's!?" Mei yelled, pointing at his wrist. Some of the passerby's looked at them confused as Izuku hurried to defuse the situation
"Shhhh! Mei, you're causing a scene. It's a support item from one of my cousins in America, it'll help me control my quirk." Mei's eyes widened at that, since she knew he was quirkless.
"I thought you were quirkless?" Mei said whispering in Izuku's ear, as he stiffened having a girl so close to him. He had gotten so used to Mei's antics that he almost forgot she was a girl.
"U-Uh it manifested a week ago. Turns out I have a quirk and I just can't use it without this thing on my wrist," Izuku pointed to the watch, "One of my cousins helped me out and sent this over to me, I just got it today."
Mei eyed him suspiciously and shrugged as Izuku let out a sigh of relief.
"So what is your quirk?" Mei asked as Izuku stiffened.
'Crap, what do I say?'
"I can transform into stuff apparently. Like different forms. My cousin examined my blood and used one of those fancy quirk sensors and figured it out. The reason why I thought I was quirkless was because I can't do it on my own. Like my body would explode or something from trying to morph without help." Izuku said nonchalantly as he panicked on the inside.
'Please buy it, please buy it, please buy it'
"Oh, cool. Wait, how do clothes work then, would they just disappear or would they stay on? Is that why you want your costume to be simple? Boring quirk if I can't make you babies." Mei pouted again as they reached the door. Mei, still pouting, waved at him and they went their separate ways.
What Izuku didn't know was that a certain blonde boy was glaring at him from behind, scowling as a few pops and crackles went off in his hands. He stuffed them in his pockets and continued walking.
Izuku walked into a classroom and sat down in a chair, taking out his pencil as he waited for further instructions to take the written test.
2 hours later
'Jesus that test was hard. I know U.A is a prestigious school but that was brutal.'
Some of the exam takers were sobbing and others looked like they just stared into the face of God himself. Izuku winced as he strode to enter the orientation hall. He wondered how Mei was doing.
"Dear god! Please! Put out the fire!" A man with an excavator claw as a helmet yelled as a girl with pink hair cackled running around with power tools in his classroom.
'Do I smell smoke? Ah, must be nothing'
Izuku found his seat as a familiar blonde boy sat down right next to him. Neither of them talked to each other as Present Mic began his speech at the bottom of the orientation hall.
"What's up U.A candidates, are you ready! Come on, let me hear ya'!" Present Mic yelled as everyone stared at him blankly.
"Keeping it cool huh? That's fine we can skip to the main event! Let's talk about how the practical exams are gonna go down! Are you ready?!" Present Mic yelled again but no one spoke except for a single cough from behind Izuku.
"Like your application said, you'll be out there conducting a 10 minute mock battle in the city! The screen behind Present Mic flashed to show information.
"You can bring whatever you want with you. Once I'm done talking you'll head out to your specified battle centers." Izuku looked at his card, saying that he'd be getting sent to section B.
"Tch', they're splitting people up so they can't work together with people from their previous schools." Bakugou said as Izuku looked at his card which said section A.
"I was really looking to pulverize you, nerd." Bakugou sneered as Izuku ignored him.
Present Mic started to talk about the different robots in the exam as Izuku began to think of a game plan.
'I don't know how long the watch will take to charge up but I can go a number of forms here. I could go the brawlers like Four Arms and Diamondhead and try to go for the high point robots or go someone like XLR8 and outspeed everyone by getting all the small fry instead. I could go Upgrade to hijack the robots or even Cannonbolt to just steam roll them. There's too many choices. I'll have to decide quickly.' Izuku thought, comparing his options, as another exam taker raised his hand.
"Yes?" Present Mic asked, a spotlight shining on a boy with glasses with a paper in his hand.
"On the print out of the Exam, you listed 4 types of villains, not 3. With all respect, if this is an error on official U.A materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students, we expect the best from Japan's most notable school, and mistakes like this will not do," The boy said, holding up his paper. Indeed, there were 4 robots instead of 3.
"Also, you with the green hair!" Izuku perked up at the mention of him. "You have been muttering this whole time! Stop it! If you can't bother to take this seriously, go home."
Izuku looked at his desk as he muttered out a "Sorry".
"Woah there! Yes, I was getting to that. The 4th villain is worth no points, it's just an obstacle we'll be giving you guys. It's not worth it to fight it." Present Mic explained as the boy in the glasses bowed and sat down.
"That's all I've got for now! Now, can I hear a Plus Ultra!?" Present Mic yelled as no one responded, yet again.
"Cool!" Present Mic yelled, putting up a thumbs up.
Izuku stood up as he examined himself in the mirror, grinning. His workout clothes were a homage to his predecessor as he was wearing a black striped white t-shirt and cargo pants with the Omnitrix on his left hand.
A moment later he found himself in the urban battle center, nervous as he scanned the area. Some of the people had specialized gear which was concerning.
'Maybe I should have taken up on Mei's offer for a laser gun'
He waited around as he spotted Present Mic on top of something as he yelled.
"There are no countdowns in real battles! Go! Go! Go!" Present Mic yelled as everyone ran forward.
Izuku started running, fiddling with the watch as he tried to get it to work. The faceplated turned blue as nothing happened.
"Aw man!" Izuku yelled ducking into an alley, still trying to get it to work. He tried for a few moments until he gave up. Izuku looked around and found a trash can. He lifted its lid and ran out of the alley, wearing it on his right arm like a shield.
'This is what I was trained for! Like Ben said, I can't rely on the watch all the time, I gotta be quick on my feet, ' Izuku thought as he came face to face with a 2 pointer. The 2 pointer attacked as Izuku dodged and battered it repeatedly with the trash lid, the metal groaning. After hitting it a decent amount and taking it down, he stood up and ran to find another one.
'I have to pass! Ben trusted me to be a hero and I'm gonna become one,' Izuku thought as he slammed the trash lid down another robot's throat. That was 9 robots down. He had at least 12 points which he definitely knew was not enough to pass. The Omnitrix's faceplate was still blue as he kept attacking the robots around him.
'10'
'11'
'12'
'13'
Izuku panted as blood dripped from his knuckles, after bashing one of the robots in the face with his fist. He couldn't give up, not now. Izuku kept running until suddenly a loud sound echoed through the urban testing area. He looked up and became slack jawed. A robot as big as some of the buildings had emerged and was wreaking havoc. Everyone was running away from it as Izuku looked on in horror. He was about to leave but saw a girl trapped in rubble, about to be trampled by the zero pointer.
Izuku didn't think, mumble, or strategize.
He acted.
Izuku ran forward, his legs moving on his own as he tried to get her out. Her ankle was pinned by some rubble and she couldn't get out.
With the behemoth slowly approaching, Izuku started to panic as he tried to get the girl out. Suddenly he heard a beep on his left hand. It was the Omnitrix and it's faceplate was no longer blue. It shined green as it morphed and turned into a normal looking green watch, not the bulky brace it had been before. It shined green again, turning into a different wrist watch, a square faceplate with a white, green, black color scheme. Without thinking, he activated it, sliding the faceplate black like it was second nature and slammed down on the core, not caring about the alien he got.
A green flash enveloped him as he turned into an alien with large spikes on their shoulders, claws, and two toed feet. His head was metal and was floating above his body which looked to be also made of metal.
"I-I don't know this guy" Izuku mumbled but he had no time to think, just act. He raised his claws in front of the zero pointer and felt a sensation. He pushed and the metal behemoth started to crumble and warp like an invisible force was bending it. He pushed even more and the zero pointer crumbled and broke, its parts bending and breaking. Izuku heard the electrical parts short circuit as he tried to do the same thing to the rubble on the girl's ankle. It didn't work.
'Not telekinesis? Magento-kinesis then?' Izuku shook his head as he gripped the rubble with his claws and easily lifted it to let the girl out. Remembering one of Ben's notes, he tapped the Omnitrix faceplate on his chest and turned back to normal, the new Omnitrix faintly glowing on his left hand.
"A-Are you okay?" Izuku asked, holding out his right arm to get her back up.
"Ye-Yeah! I'm fine! My ankle hurts a tiny bit though." The girl said, pointing to her bruised ankle
"Dude he crumpled that thing like a piece of tinfoil." One of the other exam takers said, surprised.
"Why didn't he transform earlier? I saw him fighting the robots quirkless." Another exam taker said.
"Maybe his quirk has to charge up first?" Someone else said as a small, elderly woman walked towards them with a cane.
"You're Recovery Girl!" Izuku gasped as she approached.
"Yes, I am indeed. Are you injured?" Recovery Girl asked as Izuku nodded and pointed to his fist which she kissed and the bruises faded
He pointed to the girl, "She's injured too." Midoriya said as the Recovery Girl walked past him and kissed the girl on the head as the bruising on her ankle faded away.
"Woah I'm all better!" The girl said in awe.
"Here, take a gummy." Recovery Girl said as she gave Izuku and the girl a gummy as she walked to tend to other people.
"So-Sorry? What's your name?" The girl asked him as he blushed in embarrassment.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya," Izuku said, holding out a hand.
"I'm Ochako Uraraka!" Ochako said as she shook his hand.
Izuku smiled at her," It's nice to meet you!"
"Nezu, we have a problem." A voice said as a skeletal man walked into the rodent's office. He sipped on his tea as the skeletal man took a seat.
"What seems to be the problem, Yagi?" Nezu asked as the man's eyes were fearful.
"He might be back." Yagi said, his voice quavering as Nezu sipped on his tea some more.
"What makes you say that?" Nezu asked as Yagi slid a picture of a boy with green hair, green eyes, and freckles with a strange watch on his left arm.
"This boy has a quirk. He did not have one a few months ago." Yagi said as Nezu stroked his chin, sipping on some more tea.
"Izuku Midoriya was it? His quirk was listed as "Alien Biology" in his files. He was indeed quirkless a few months ago. I will investigate the matter but fear not All Might, the best way to monitor him will be here at U.A with pros around the clock.
Yagi sighed as he got up and closed the door behind him, exiting the room.
"Izuku Midoriya.." Nezu said as he stared at the picture of the green haired boy with recognition.
"I thought it was a myth but you have proved me wrong. Tell me, just how do you possess the Omnitrix," Nezu asked as he took out a small circular disk with an hourglass in the middle, its center illuminating in green light.
