"Shigaraki, it's time to go. The Pro Heroes will be here soon." The mist villain said as Shigaraki yelled in anger.
"He cheated! He killed Nomu! Nomu can't be beaten by some brat! I'll kill him!" Shigaraki yells, running and thrusting his hands forward to kill Izuku just as the doors of the USJ fly open.
"Have no fear. For I am here!"
Shigaraki quickly froze as the mist villain enveloped him as he began to glare at a relieved Izuku. Shigaraki tried to tag him but the mist villain wrapped around him preventing him from doing so, trying to get themselves away from the USJ now that All Might had appeared.
"The next time we meet I'll kill you! I'll kill you and everyone you love, Izuku Midoriya!" Shigaraki yelled with venom in his voice as he disappeared in a mist of purple. Izuku's eyes widened at the declaration.
'Oh, crap, oh crap, oh crap.' Izuku internally panicked as he registered the fact that he had told the leader of a villain group, the same one that broke into their school and planned to kill All Might, his full name.
'I-I am such an idiot! That's like Superhero 101! How could I tell a bloodthirsty villain my name! I might as well send him a letter detailing my home address. Stupid Izuku! Stupid!' Izuku clutched at his head, berating himself for his own stupidity as All Might approached, grimacing at the smoking crater he was in.
"Young Midoriya! Are you alright?" Izuku turned around to the muscular man. The boy looked panicked.
"All Might! I-I told the villain my name! I-It was in the heat of the moment and- gah! I'm such an idiot! What if he comes after Mom? Oh, god what if they kidnap her!"Izuku said as All Might stared at the muttering boy as he began to chop the air in front of him like Iida.
"Woah! Calm down there Young Midoriya! All heroes make mistakes! The staff and I at U.A can sort this out!" All Might said as Izuku stopped panicking and relief flooded his expression.
"Really?" Izuku asked as All Might flashed a smile and gave a thumbs up. Underneath that smiling face, however, was a worried old man. This boy… he had fought villains not one week into his stay at U.A and was worrying about his loved ones more than himself. And All Might thought he could be connected to a villain. He felt incredibly guilty about that but he needs to be cautious.
It pained him, it really did. Maybe in another universe, he had given him One for All on that fateful day on the rooftop, recognizing his heroic spirit and training him. But in this one, Izuku Midoriya could very well be a pawn of his worst enemy.
All Might's smile falters for a bit, going unnoticed by the green-haired boy in front of him.
'Young Midoriya, I really do hope you're not connected to that man. But even if you aren't, I still can't shake the feeling you're hiding something.' All Might thought, glancing at the Omnitrix which was faintly glowing green on his left arm.
Elsewhere, in a galaxy or two, far, far, far away
A frog-like creature peered down on his monitoring devices as he sighed in resignation. The creature rubbed his temples as he looked around at his makeshift workshop and back at the monitoring devices, one of them showing the Omnitrix's readings.
"The newest wielder of the Omnitrix has worn it for less than 2 weeks and has already initiated the failsafe feature." Azmuth grimaced as he turned to a holographic monitor showing the face of Izuku Midoriya.
"Midoriya, huh? If he's anything like Benjamin I'm gonna need to take that rat's offer for tea sometime." Azmuth said as he pulled out a remote and pressed a button.
Suddenly all of his belongings around him were gone in a flash of green light. He took out a cube-looking device and pressed a button on it, the device morphing into a space helmet for the little Galvan.
'It's time to go. My journey is over.' Azmuth again pulled out the hologram showing Izuku Midoriya's face.
"I won't fail your successor as I failed you, Benjamin." The First Thinker declared as he made his way back home.
And to the newest wielder of the Omnitrix.
Izuku stared up at the ceiling, recounting the day's events as he tossed and turned in his bed. The recent hours were a blur to him, he could vaguely remember the police getting his statement of the events that had transpired and getting checked by Recovery Girl to make sure he was all right.
He was mostly uninjured but had some light bruising around his body due to some of the dents and scuffs that Nomu had been able to give him in his new form. His mom had been especially worried about him and nearly crushed him in a hug. Izuku's body might have been fine but his blaster had been destroyed in the fight, somehow Shigaraki had been able to touch it in midst of the action which he was a bit miffed about but Principal Nezu could probably get him a replacement.
Speaking of his new form, he had already decided on a name. Call it him trying to cope with being thrust into a life or death situation, but he brainstormed for a little over an hour trying to come up with the radioactive alien's new name.
'NRG… I'm pretty proud of that one.' Izuku mused as he looked at the Omnitrix, his mind wandering to the confrontation with Shigaraki. His memory was pretty vague but he remembered being grabbed and the rapid transformations he went through. The Omnitrix radiated a small green aura as Izuku stared at it in silence.
'It's like this thing has a mind of its own. Wait.. could it?' Izuku thought as he recounted the numerous "mistransformations" he goes through. Every wrong alien seemed to be able to solve any problem he was facing at the time, albeit in a different way than he expected. Maybe the Omnitrix could be looking out for him?
"Maybe I should stop trying to fight it... It seems to know me… better than me.." Izuku said aloud as he ran his hands across the faceplate as he stared up at the ceiling once again. His life had become pure chaos once he put on the Omnitrix, but that's what he signed up for.
This was his shot, his chance, to be a hero.
And he was not about to let it pass.
"Izuku! Why'd you just let it pass?!" Mei yelled at Izuku who ducked from a stray flying screw that had come out of Mei's newest contraption.
'More like a death trap.' Izuku thought as he dodged another screw, flying past his head and making a noticeable indent in the wall behind him.
"I still don't understand why you made me wake up 2 hours before school started to come with you into the workshop," Izuku said, scratching the back of his head as Mei perked up.
"Oh! That's because I have a baby for you! I guess I got a bit sidetracked." Mei said as Izuku deadpanned.
"Mei, we've been here for almost 2 hours already. The class is about to start. I think the term sidetracked is a bit underselling it." Izuku said as Mei began to rummage through her workshop table which was littered with scraps and tools. Finally, she took out a pair of goggles with a smile that made Izuku's heart skip.
It wasn't one of her usual manic smiles but a genuinely happy one that made Izuku feel weird but in a good way.
"Tada! Your newest support item!" Mei said as Izuku looked at the goggles. The lenses were the same shade of green as the Omnitrix and the straps were white with a black outline.
"Goggles?" Izuku asked as he grabbed it and eyed it as Mei started to hum.
"Yep! They're like mine but a lot smaller! I wanted you to have a pair for your costume to make it less boring. Plus, we can be goggle buddies!" Mei said as Izuku eyed her goggles. Sure enough, they looked similar in design but Izuku's looked much less steampunk than hers. Izuku put them on, letting them rest on his forehead as he looked at Mei who was smiling brighter than he had ever seen her smile.
"How do I look?" Izuku said as Mei cackled.
"Like you're my assistant." Mei snorted as Izuku chuckled. Izuku ran his hands around the goggles, admiring the craftsmanship and care that probably went into them.
"It has thermal vision, can zoom in on things, and is made with the toughest items I could find around here. Mei said as Izuku smiled widely at her as a small blush formed on her cheeks. Izuku couldn't help but blush as well at the invention Mei had made for him.
"Mei, it's great. Thank you. I'll make sure to take good care of them." Izuku said as he slung his backpack over his shoulders, keeping the goggles on his head as he made his way out of the workshop, heading to his class which was about to start. The goggles, to him, weren't really a support item as it was a gift. A gift from one of his friends which Izuku still couldn't wrap his head around. Since when did he have friends?
He walked into the classroom as every student looked up from their separate conversations and looked at him. Izuku stared as the rest of the class stared at him. Eventually, it got so awkward that Izuku was contemplating running out the door but Kirishima quickly cut through the silence.
"Woah! Cool goggles man! And sweet kicks!" Kirishima said as everyone went back to their separate conversations. Internally, Izuku breathed a sigh of relief as he sat down.
Speaking of his shoes, he was a bit mad at the fact that his famous red shoes were basically done for. Turns out the bottom of his shoes had basically been ground to dust in the fight with Nomu.
It wasn't like that was his only pair of shoes but it was his signature style! So Izuku rummaged around his room until he found his dad's old pair of red Jordans dug up an old memory of his
Flashback
"Dad? Why do you always wear the same shoes every day?" A young Izuku at the park asked his father who chuckled at his words. It was hard to make out what he looked like due to the sun's light shining on him.
"Well, because they're my lucky shoes! When I wear them, nothing can go wrong." His dad said as Izuku stared up in awe.
"Lucky shoes?" Izuku said as he looked down at his own red shoes.
"Yep! Tell you what... A few years from now, when you're older, you can have them!" His father said as Izuku looked at him beaming.
"Really?!" Izuku asked as his father chuckled once again.
"Of course, kiddo."
End Flashback
Izuku smiled at the memory as he stared down at his dad's lucky shoes. They had fit like a second skin and made him wistful for his father. Contrary to what others thought, Izuku had a pretty good relationship with his father. He called at least once a week to check on him and his mother but it had been so long that Izuku could barely remember his face. He really just wished he could come home.
And even if he wasn't coming home anytime soon, he at least had something to remind himself of him.
Eventually, Izuku snapped out of his thoughts as he registered what his classmates were talking about. His classmates were talking about the recent reports on the news and the fact that they were actually given a bit of screen time.
"Yeah dude, we're basically celebrities now," Kaminari said as Sato interjected.
"I can't believe Midoriya got that bird monster. He straight up obliterated that thing, but the news said that it was perfectly fine though. Why's that?" Sato asked as he looked at Izuku who scratched his head.
"He had regeneration so he probably just regenerated," Izuku said as his mind flashed back to the smoking crater he and Nomu were in. He was extremely sure that the thing was completely decimated in the blast but the beast must have recovered.
"Yeah! I was really worried when I saw that villain holding your arm but then you started to transform super quick and that beacon of green light shot up into the air and then you aimed that huge laser beam at the Nomu and-" Ochako went on and on Izuku blushed from the praise. She suddenly stopped and a confused look adorned her face as she looked at Izuku.
"Wait, what was that you did in the USJ? Like the whole rapid transformation thing?" Ochako asked as Izuku rubbed the back of his head.
"To be honest? I don't know-" Izuku was cut off by Iida who began to speak from the class's podium.
"Everyone! Get in your seats and be prepared!"
"Uh, Iida, we're all sitting." A random student said as Iida looked like someone had just punched him in the gut.
"Yeah, you're the only one here standing," Kirishima adds as Iida takes his seat, completely embarrassed at what had just transpired.
"Hey, Tsuyu? Who do you think is gonna teach class today?" Mina asked, leaning back in her seat as Tsuyu put a finger on her cheek.
"No idea. I think Mr. Aizawa is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries." Tsuyu said as the class door opened to reveal a slightly banged-up Aizawa whose arms were covered in several bandages. Other than that he seemed perfectly fine as he strolled up to the podium.
"Hey," Aizawa said as the class looked at him in shock.
"Mr. Aizawa! What the hell?"
"Sir! I am glad you are okay!"
"What a pro!"
"My wellbeing is none of your concern. What is truly your concern is that your fight is only just getting started." Aizawa said as the class collectively began to panic.
'Fight?!'
"What the fuck?" Kaminari asked, not so eloquently.
"Don't tell me.." Bakugou sneered as he looked up at Aizawa.
"Oh, god." Izuku stiffened as he awaited his teacher's news.
"The U.A Sports Festival is about to start," Aizawa said, bored as the entire class went into an uproar.
"Why would you scare us like that?!"
Kirishima got up from his seat and began to celebrate loudly, "Yeah! It's time to open a can of whoop-ass on the other students!"
Kaminari quickly ruined the redhead's mood as he shoved his face, "Wait, hold it. Seriously?"
"Is it really such a good idea to do the Sports Festival after almost being murdered by bloodthirsty villains?" Jirou said, completely summarizing all their worries in a single sentence
"Well, apparently the administration thinks this is a good way to show that we as a school are not shaken and that the problem has been handled. They're also beefing up security compared to past years. This event is a huge opportunity for all students here at U.A. We can't just cancel it because of a few villains." Aizawa explained as the class began to understand.
"The U.A Sports Festival is one of the most-watched events in the entire world. For anyone who cares about competitions or sports, there's only one tournament that matters. Our Sports Festival."
"That's right. Pro heroes will be scouting us using the Sports Festival as a show of our skills, quirks, and capabilities."
"True. After graduating a lot of new heroes join agencies and become a sidekick." Kaminari said as Jirou looked at him smirking.
"Yeah, but that's as far as some people go. Actually, that's probably where you're going, you're pretty stupid." Jirou said as Kaminari's eye twitched as he stared at a smirking Jirou.
"That is true. Joining a pro-hero agency can get you a lot of experience and popularity. This is why the festival matters so much. If you want to go pro one day, this festival can open a door for you. 1 chance a year. 3 chances in a lifetime. No aspiring hero can miss this festival. That means you better not slack off on your training." Aizawa's gaze hardened at the students as they began to get even more determined.
"Class dismissed," Aizawa said as he made his way to the door until turning around, looking back at the class.
"Don't embarrass me," Aizawa said as he walked out the door.
Izuku looked down on the Omnitrix in contemplation, the sleek faceplate glowing which it had been doing for the entire morning. He didn't know what it meant but he was curious. Maybe it was undergoing another upgrade? Hopefully this time the time limit would be removed.
But that contemplation was cut short as Midnight strolled into the door as the bell rang, strutting to the podium with her whip in hand.
Izuku sighed as he took out his notebook and saw that Midnight was already flaunting a few of her assets to the class.
'This is gonna be a long period isn't it?' Izuku thought as he sweatdropped.
The bell finally rang, signaling the end of Izuku's Math class with Cementoss walking out the door. Izuku sighed, looking at the clock as he got ready to go to lunch.
"I am so pumped for these games!" Kirishima exclaimed as Sero elbowed him.
"Yeah! We put on a good enough performance and we're basically on the way to becoming pros!" Sero said as Sato slammed his fist into his open palm.
"Yeah! This is why I'm here in the first place." Sato said as Tokoyami coolly provided his own thoughts.
"We all have such few chances. We must give our best showing."
The rest of the class agreed with this sentiment as Izuku gazed nervously at everyone. At least they didn't have to deal with the fact that the Sports Festival was supposedly broadcasted across the entire universe. His already terrible anxiety was basically tripled due to that certain tidbit.
"This is crazy, everyone is so excited," Izuku muttered as Iida stood up from his seat addressing Izuku.
"Of course we are! We enrolled in this school with the sole aim to become heroes! Naturally, we'd be getting all fired up!" Iida said while dancing weirdly.
"Wow, those are some… interesting moves Iida, kero." Tsuyu said as Iida continued.
"You have to be excited too right, Midoriya?" Iida asked as Izuku paled.
"Y-Yeah... Of course, I am. But there's just… gonna be so many people." Izuku mumbled as he silently cursed at Nezu for telling him about the universal broadcast.
"Deku! Iida! Let's all do our best at the Sports Festival." Ochako said with a face worthy of the famous Katsuki Bakugou.
"U-Uraraka what happened to your face?" Izuku asked, clearly afraid as Mina and Iida stared at her.
"Yeah.. you're like the most laid-back person ever," Mina said as Ochako dramatically raised her fist into the air with determination.
"Everyone! I'm gonna do my best" Ochako said as Izuku raised up his fist with a halfhearted "yeah".
"I said! I'm gonna do my best!" Ochako said, turning to Kirishima and the other boys.
"Ye-Yeah," Kirishima said, raising his own fist into the air, sweating at the sudden show of determination.
Soon enough, Ochako, Iida, and Izuku found themselves heading to lunch as a question nagged Izuku the whole walk.
"Hey, Uraraka?" Izuku asked as Ochako looked at him.
"Yeah?" Ochako asked.
"Uh, so why did you want to become a hero?" Izuku asked as Ochako looked shocked at the question.
"U- Uh well... I'm doing it... For the money." Ochako finished rubbing the back of her head in embarrassment.
"For the money?" Izuku asked, not expecting the answer.
"Yeah... It's really embarrassing since you guys have such admirable motivations.." Ochako said, embarrassed as Iida started to wave his hands about.
"Nonsense! You are merely trying to support your well-being which is a perfectly normal ambition to have!" Iida said as Izuku nodded.
"Yeah. It's just kind of surprising." Izuku said as Ochako shook her head.
"It-It's not for me. It's for my parents. My parents run a construction company but they haven't been getting any work lately so we're pretty much broke." Ochako said as Izuku snapped his fingers.
"Hey, wait if you get a license I bet you could bring down costs a lot right?" Izuku asked as Ochako nodded.
"I know right! I've been telling my dad that since I was a kid! But.. he told me to follow my dreams. That's why I'm going to become a Pro Hero, I'll sign with a good agency and help my parents have an easy life." Ochako declared as Iida began to clap.
"Bravo! Bravo!" Iida continued clapping as Izuku looked at Ochako.
'She's not here to live out some hero fantasy. If anything she's more grounded than most of us here.' Izuku thought as he looked at the blushing Ochako.
"Huh?" Izuku mumbled as he gazed at the exit of his classroom, completely surprised at the number of people outside.
"Do you have business with our class?" Iida asked as Bakugou scoffed.
"They're scouting out the competition. We're the class that survived a real villain attack. They want to see us with their own eyes. Now you guys know what a real pro looks like." Bakugou gazed at the crowd.
"Now move out the fucking way, extras," Bakugou said as the entire class burst into protest.
"Bakugou you can't just go around calling people extras!" Iida said as Izuku nervously fiddled with the Omnitrix.
"So you guys are Class 1-A? I heard you guys were impressive but you just sound like an asshole. Is everyone in the hero course as delusional as you?" A boy with bluish-purple hair asked as Bakugou scoffed.
Izuku began to fiddle even more with the Omnitrix, pressing its buttons in a random order as he looked at the student who had called out Bakugou with nervousness.
"How sad that I found a bunch of egomaniacs. You know I wanted to be in the hero course. But I was forced to choose a different track. I didn't cut it the first time but I have another chance. You have an empty seat in your class. If any of us do well in the Sports Festival, one of the teachers can transfer us to the hero course. Scouting out the competition? Maybe some of my peers are but consider this a declaration of war." The purple-haired boy said as a newcomer approached.
"Hey, you! I'm from class 1-B next door! We heard you fought villains and I came to see if that was true! But you're just a bunch of brats who think they're better than us, huh?!" A boy with silver hair accused them as Izuku gritted his teeth.
"Did I ask? I don't care about who the fuck you guys are, or whatever fucking declarations of war you're giving us. All that matters is I beat you and show you all your fucking place at the Sports Festival. Eat shit, losers." Bakugou said as he walked out the door without a care in the world.
The crowd began to murmur and mumble and Izuku could catch some of the words being said such as "arrogant asshole", "jackass", "jerk class", and "don't deserve to be in the hero course".
Izuku especially hated that last one. These people didn't know anything that he had gone through and were being presumptuous asshats. Izuku would never admit that though so he silently stood there, unmoving as he took the barbed comments with the rest of his class
Depressingly enough he was kind of used to being hated by the entire school or at least not well liked so he didn't really get as bothered as some of the others in his class.
"You know he's right, right?" Tokoyami said as the rest of the class turned to him in bewilderment.
"All that matters is that we beat them. Everyone would have been gunning for us either way in the Sports Festival. We have to come out on top." Tokoyami explained as some of his classmates nodded.
Izuku eyed the Omnitrix as he took in those words. Tokoyami was right, they had to come out on top. He had to train for the Sports Festival and show the Earth and the entire universe what he could do.
It was time to train.
"Wait, what do you mean I can't train?" Izuku asked Principal Nezu as he sat in his office. Nezu sipped on some of his tea and smiled apologetically. He had come to disc
"Our training facilities have all been booked. I'm afraid you'll have to train on your own." Nezu said as Izuku slumped in his seat. He was counting on using the training facilities and gym due to the fact he couldn't really train his transformations in public
"However. A certain person may be able to train you in the art of using the Omnitrix." Nezu said nonchalantly as Izuku bolted upright from his seat.
"What?! Who?" Izuku yelled in surprise as Nezu smiled.
"Well, who else would be able to train a person to use the Omnitrix if not the person who made it?"
"Wait! You-You're saying Azmuth is back?" Izuku said dumbfounded as Nezu chuckled.
"Yes, he has recently returned and requests me to tell you that he will be training you over the next week or two." Izuku nearly celebrated until Nezu cut it short.
"However, we must talk about something else entirely. Tell me, is it true that you told the villain your name?" Nezu asked as Izuku's blood ran cold.
"Y-Yes, sir," Izuku said as Nezu sighed.
"I am guessing I do not have to explain how bad of an idea that was?" Nezu asked as Izuku shook his head.
"Well, there is a simple solution for this. You can live here at U.A and your mother can be escorted to a safe house with security personnel guarding her. Does that sound okay? I called your mother and she has already agreed and is waiting for your answer." Nezu asked.
"Yes, sir. I'm okay with that" Izuku stood up to get out of the room as Nezu nodded.
"Alright, Midoriya. Now you best be off. I'll call you when Azmuth makes his plans. I'm expecting you to make a good showing at Sports Festival. Everyone's looking to see the next Protector of Earth."
"Y-You can count on me, sir!" Izuku said bowing as he exited the principal's office.
Nezu hummed as he looked at the cameras to see that Izuku was exiting the school.
"I know I can."
A/N: Yeah, sorry this chapter's a whole lot of rehashing canon, but some stuff will actually happen next chapter with Azmuth's training and such. If you're wondering why I gave him goggles, the answer will await you soon. Let's just say he'll get something to replace that skateboard the Nomu broke.
Till' next time
