Chapter 6 Mosswater Industrial Part 2

After getting back to Julia and Florinia, Florinia hasn't opened the gate just yet.

Ash: Hey, Julia! We got what you needed.

Julia: (Delighted to see the bombs) Boomies! Beautiful, bombastic boomies! (Looks at them) Ooo, Verdignite! This stuff is fun.

Fern: What, you know the specific type of explosive?

Julia: Uhhhhhhh, obviously! It's named for its green color, but it's unique cuz the internal chemicals react as they oxidize! In other words, all you gotta do to make it shake its stuff is break open the plastic casing!

Ash: (Relieved) Glad I didn't drop it on the way over here...

Julia: (Pulls out the plastic casing and throws it on the ground) Okay, let's do this!

Ash and Fern quickly rush behind Julia as the bomb is on a countdown.

Julia: Okay! Three... Two... Kaaaaaaa...

At the last second, the gate suddenly goes upwards into the ceiling. Ash turns to see Florinia already opens the gate through hacking.

Florinia: Secondary firewall overrode in line with secondary security failure. Access granted.

Julia: But the-

The bomb also explodes, and all four of them manage to duck out of the way without any serious injuries.

Julia: (Disappointed) ...Well, okay. Not that there was nothing to even blow up anymore, buuuuuut I'll take it!

Florinia: Your penchant for wanton destruction remains decidedly superfluous.

Julia: You're right, it IS super! And now we charge ever-forward! Goooooo team! (Rushes three steps and stops) ...But like, our team. Not Team Meteor. Go!

Florinia: Indeed. (Leaves)

Fern: (Sighs) Pretty sure Julia should've been arrested a long time ago. Whatever, let's get a move on it.

Ash doesn't say anything, but he finds it rather cute for Julia to do it.

When they enter the room, they find four people inside. One of them seems to be the commander, as he is wearing a black outfit.

Julia: You! Are you the one in charge here?

Black-Suited man: And if I am?

Julia: We're gonna blow your face off for what you did to Grandview Station!

Black-Suited man: (Stares at them) Amusing. Tell me, what power do you think you have to do so? Two among you are Leaders of the league, sure. A considerable obstacle, yet hardly much concern. Two others, mere smoke in the wind.

Ash: (Rolls his eyes) Oh yeah, and just who do you think you are, anyway?!

Black-Suited man: You know already. We are Team Meteor. Though few know it, we are keepers of history. Shepherds of the region.

Fern: Some "shepherds" you are. We kicked your whole base in already!

Black-Suited man: Pat yourself on the back as much as you'd like, but we never had any reason to stop you. Like a toddler who will kick, scream and cry themselves to eventual sleep, you've been allowed to do as you pleased. Our purpose here was forfeit already. Your city has been watched for quite some time.

Ace: We've got metrics on everything from water quality to Pokémon population and the lives of the people! If it exists, we probably knew about it! (Types some more on the computer) And now just like that, everything is off the system!

Black-Suited man: (Nods) We made the mistake of overestimating your little raiding party. Time was ample. And I grow tired of this dalliance. (Turns to the two admins) Aster.

Aster: Yes, boss!

Black-Suited man: Eclipse.

Eclipse: Yeah?

Black-Suited man: Deal with the small fries.

Eclipse: If you say so.

Black-Suited man: Ace, you and I will handle the Gym Leaders.

Ace: Consider the deck stacked!

Aster: For Team Meteor! (Sends out two Rockruffs)

Ash goes for Scraggy while Fern goes for Rowlet to battle both of them, and even though they manage to knock out Rowlet with Rock Blast, Scraggy manages to dodge through all the attacks and lands Focus Blast on Aster's while hitting Eclipse's with High Jump Kick.

Black-Suited Man: (Struggling against Julia's Electrode and Florinia's Cradily with his Seviper and Ace already recalls his Pokemon.) Tch, you two lost already? Can't you incompetent grunts do anything right? These two aren't so tough, but the four of you all together...Well, it was an amusing diversion. Ace.

Ace: One smokescreen evacuation coming right up, Commander! The disappearing act is a staple of any magician~ Now you see us! (Lets out a smokescreen) Now you don't!

Black-Suited Man: Do not make the mistake of believing you've won. You will be remembered, enemies of the region.

After they open their eyes, they notice that all of Team Meteor has already left.

Julia: ...Are they gone?

Florinia: Affirmative.

Fern: We sent them packing with their tails between their legs!

Julia: Great job, team! You too, Electrode! Return~ (Rushes to the computers) Now let's see...Mhm, mhm...Got it! (Turns to the others) Okay! You all should start running now!

Ash: Huh? What did you do, now?

Julia: (Shows them the bombs in her hands) Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Fern: (Pales) Oh, shit! Let's move!

Everyone rushes out of the factory before they are hit by the explosion, and they can't believe Mosswater Industrial is just destroyed like that.

Julia: Well, that's a wrap! Gooooo team!

Fern: Uh huh. If you're done with your pyrotechnics, I'm gettin' out of here. Unlike Ash, I can't just stand around all day while there's still stuff to be done. Peace! (Leaves)

Julia: (Mutters) Way to sour the mood! This was a perfectly good victory!

Florinia: "Souring the mood" remains one of his few veritable competencies. However, this speaker is overdue for departure as well. The situation in the Obsidia Ward reportedly continues to deteriorate rapidly.

Julia: Something weird was going on with the plants there, right? How does that even happen? There's like, two plants in that park! If that!

Florinia: The use of the literary device known as understatement is noted. Nevertheless, attention is warranted.

Julia: Well, boo. Fine. I know you've been really distant since our graduation, but I'm glad we could hang out at least a little~ Just like old times, right?

Florinia: And equally destructive, correct. However, sentimentalities remain counter-productive. (Turns to Ash) Unrelated: An inquiry for Ash: Did you observe terrain-variant effects during that operation?

Ash: Well, my Pokegear did mention something, but I'm new to this region, so I don't think I know about this kind of stuff.

Florinia: More commonly known as Field Effects, certain environments may influence or alter various Pokémon or attacks. For instance, Electric attacks became more powerful there, drawing energy from the machinery. It would behoove your challenge to remain observant of environmental divergences throughout your battles.

Ash: I think your brother had mentioned something like that.

Florinia: Recently, many Trainers have been documenting the specific attributes of each environment. As such, this speaker has created an application to catalog these attributes and effects. Please allow the beta version to be installed into your Pokégear.

Ash gives the Pokegear to Florinia, and then she turns on the app for Ash.

Florinia: This application can also display in-battle prompts indicating which moves will be strengthened or weakened in the given environment. And I see you've already turned it on. Regardless, in order for indicators to appear, the application must have already been loaded with data for the Field Effect in question. A small population has already begun recording data for this application. Currently, only data on the Electric Terrain is stored in the device.

Ash: You mean Electric Terrain? Like a move?

Florinia: (Nods) Please collect additional information with the help of others, or by finding environmental Read-Outs that may have been extracted at various locations.

Julia: (Realizes something) Wait, did you say Electric Terrain!? Rini! That's for MY Gym! Are you trying to give Ash a lead on me?

Florinia: (Ignores her) This speaker will report today's proceedings to Ame and the resident police force before returning to Obsidia. Farewell. (Leaves)

Julia: (Yells) Rini! If you're gonna sass me, at least do it with some feeling! (Frowns) Siiiigh... She hasn't been the same ever since Tania-

Ash: Tania?

Julia: (Shakes her head with a smile) Welllll, never mind! Thanks for your help today, Ash and Pikachu! You were great! And now that my Gym isn't gonna randomly blow up, I'm gonna head back there now! Although if it did blow up, that might be fun too...

Ash sighs as he can't believe the first gym leader is this crazy about exploding stuff.

Julia: Whatever! Once you feel ready, you should totally come by and challenge me! I'll be waiting! Bring coffee! (Leaves)

Ash: (Stares in her direction) Coffee? Where can I buy a coffee in this place? I guess never mind that. Let's see what we can do right here before challenging her.

Pikachu nods as they walk around the place, only to find a scientist standing in front of a factory where he met Fern.

Scientist: Well, that's not good. I tried to do a technical analysis of this building to learn something about it, but...I think it printed out the wrong data. Um... (Notices Ash and shoves the Field Effect Read-out 17 to Ash.) Here. Do something with this. Thanks! (Leaves)

Ash: (Looks at the data) I guess I got a Read-out...it is Factory Field...maybe we should take a look at this.

Field Notes 01 Electric Terrain:

"The field is hyper-charged!" Ground Pokemon won't fall asleep. Created by Electric Terrain, Electric Surge (5 turns), Stoked Sparksurfer, Ion Deludge (3 turns), Plasma Fists (3 turns), when the attacker does not hold an Everstone. Electric attacks x1.5 when the attacker is grounded. Certain attacks like Explosion, Hurricane, Hydro Vortex, Muddy Water, Self-Destruct, Smack Down, Surf, and Thousand Arrows will also gain Electric-type and have x1.5 power. Focus Punch will always fail. Certain stat moves like Charge and Eerie Impulse will amplify. Magnet Rise lasts for 8 turns. Magnet Bomb doubles the power. Activates Surge Surfer and Motor Drive each turn. Disable Comatose. Slow Start timer for x2 per turn. Galvanize's boost becomes x1.5. Wild Charge doesn't deal recoil damage. Destroyed by moves: Mud Sport and Tectonic Rage. Nature Power becomes Thunderbolt. Camouflage becomes Electric Type. Secret Power deals with paralysis. The Elemental Seed boosts Defense and applies Charge to the user.

Ash: That sure is a lot of information...I mean, I have encountered Electric Terrain before, but not like this...

Field Notes 17 Factory Field:

"Machines whir in the background." Electric moves increase x1.2. Motor Drive boosts x2. Download boosts x1.5. Technician now applies to moves up to 80 rather than 60. Certain stat moves like Autotomize, Iron Defense, Metal Sound, and Shift Gear will amplify. Magnet Rise lasts for 8 turns. Becomes Short-Circuit Field when Bulldoze, Earthquake, Explosion, Fissure, Light that burns the sky, Magnitude, Self-Destruct, and Tectonic Rage is used. Discharge additionally can alternate between the Short-Circuit and Factory Fields for each instance of damages in Double Battles. Gear Up boosts users and increases x2. Galvanize's boost becomes x1.5. Steelworker power boost becomes x2. Nature Power becomes Gear Grind. Camouflage becomes Steel Type. Secret Power lowers the Attack Stat. The Synthetic Seed boosts Special Attack and applies Laser Focus to the user.

Ash: Well, we did get some experience from this kind of field...now I'm starting to worry about the gym battle...I hope it doesn't get hard...

Pikachu nods in agreement as they decide to head back to the gym.

Here is a new chapter, and this is actually the introduction of Sirius, who I referred to as a Black-suited man because his name isn't shown until the future. Not only that, Ash has knowledge of two of the fields. I hope you like this chapter and the next chapter will be the gym battle.
