Fireflies and Midnights

Chapter two

A/N: I really don't know where this came from but ( shrugs) I'm just gonna go with it. Trigger warning for talks of bullying and suicide…. Not heavy but scattered throughout

Disclaimer: As always I don't own them.

Santana looked at the members of the glee club she had messaged to meet her. Tina, Mike, Quinn, Brittany, Kurt and Puck stared back at her. She was surprised to find herself a little nervous. Yeah, she was used to singing and dancing in front of a crowd or being the center of attention when it came to anything cheerios related but this was different.

" So, Q, B and I have noticed something weird with our resident diva"

" This is about Berry?" Puck asked, looking surprised.

Santana turned to him, since her semi talk with Rachel the other day the strangest memories kept popping up and for the first time in a long time, she saw him as the same little boy who used to play Peter Pan with Her and Rachel down at the creek, the same boy who used to jump the rocks with her before popularity became the only thing that mattered. She wondered if he ever thought about those summer days where they were lost boys running through their own neverland with Wendy by their side.

Kurt, Tina and Mike also looked at her with questioning eyes, and it was strange seeing them as the kids they used to be. Kids who one time had promised to always be friends.

" Why do the three of you care?" Kurt asked, looking between the cheerleaders, " You've been trying to take Rachel down since the third grade"

Quinn spoke first, " Because after the baby"

Santana looked at her friend, giving her an encouraging smile. ' What the actual hell was happening to her?' She mused, the old Santana Lopez would have practically ran from the room and it's too honest of emotions.

" I don't want to be mean to Beth's sister" She said more genuine than Santana had ever heard her speak before. It wasn't very often that Quinn talked about the events from last year, everyone knew how much it had taken from her. Tina reached across Mike and squeezed her hand.

" She's always been nice to me" Brittany said, " even when I wasn't nice to her back"

Kurt looked at Santana. She could see the doubts of her sincerity swirling in his gaze.

" Wendy needs us," Santana simply said. Kurt's breath hitched. Everyone in the room knew exactly what she was referring to. Puck's eyes softened.

" and I don't want to be the reason she isn't here anymore" She said, speaking of a fear she hadn't been able to shake since her talk with Quinn the other night.

" Do you- you really think she would hurt herself?" Mike asked. He almost looked afraid to hear her response. Tina watched her appraisingly.

Santana thought her silence was answer enough on its own.

" So what do we do?" Kurt asked, " And why aren't the other gleeks here?"

Santana dropped her gaze; Her answer rather simple, " Because none of them were ever lost boys"

" All of us can't approach her" Quinn said, " She would definitely freak out"

" It has to be Santana," Brittany said, looking as though this should have been obvious.

Kurt, Puck and Mike looked as though they weren't so sure. Santana kind of agreed. Tina just stared at her which was really starting to freak her out because it was like she knew something that Santana did not. She forgot how similar Tina and Brittany had always been in that way.

" Why me B? She probably trusts me the least"

It wasn't that she was trying to get out of it. She had been friends with Brittany long enough to know there was no fighting her once something was in her mind, and she really did want to help the midget but She also thought sending herself in as the first wave may not exactly go over well.

Brittany dropped her gaze and when she raised it again Santana could see it was the real Brittany looking back at her, not the dumb blonde cheerleader who had learned long ago that sometimes it was easier to play the part expected of you.

" Because you've always been Peter, Santana"

Santana sat back in her seat, unable to meet anyone's eye. There was a truth behind Brittany's words that she couldn't deny, a truth she wasn't even sure she understood completely. Or, even really wanted to.
