So the reason I made this was because I wanted to address certain general information as each subsequent snippet on the chimerans was rolled out. Funny story, as I began writing on the Schwarhund I realized I tended to write a bit on their relationships to other clans since I have a burning need to over-explain when I get into the fine detail. Writing this, I can address certain catch-all questions and information and just get into the pure facts when those snippets hit the paper, as it were.

Chimerans - Overview

For those who haven't figured it out yet, chimeran are human-animal hybrids that were created by the members of the royal branch families to serve numerous purposes. Many of these duties are obvious while some can be more…overt. As can be expected, geography, initial purpose, and a plethora of other socioeconomic factors serve to make sure that not only do they often look different (obviously), but act different, serve different occupations, can be expected to act differently in different situations, etc.

Still, with that said, there will be some uniformity in actions. For example, all chimerans are probably serving some purpose to further their house's goals. Others may be expected to simply fulfill duties that serve no duplicity. For example, Rotskul are usually hunters and gamesmen. Others may yet find that if a Prince does not trust the skill of the Sterngeld, she/he may wish to send their trusted chimeran to put down a wild Wunderbeast, or deal with pirates that a Lord has been unable to knuckle down, etc.

Another thing is looks. As this fic cribs from both the original FMA series and Brotherbood series expect that certain chimera will be closer to either Greed's (FMA) animal-aspect chimera's, or Kimblee's (FMAB) transformation types. Hint: There's more of the former, than the latter. I've also taken some creative liberties with certain chimerans as Planetos is a magic world and, well…I wanted to take advantage of certain things.

Questions & Answers:

Q: Why take from both the Brotherhood, and Original series?

A: I've actually said from the beginning that much of this story would take from both series, as well as movies, and even video games.

Q: Have you already figured out all the chimerans that serve each House?

A: No, however, I have figured out whom most of them, even if they're not all named. Also, not all will take a color-clan style naming convention i.e. Schwarhund=Black Hound, that's just something many do.

Q: What was your inspiration for them?

A: Some will reference the Chimera-human hybrids of the FMA series, others take inspiration from other fiction series such as Resident Evil, fanarts I've seen, MTG. Really the sky's the limit. But I don't want to spoil too much.

Q: How are Chimerans made, do people know chimeric alchemy?

A: Each Chimeran has their own "story," if you will, and as nice as it would be for them to each be put into a nice box and follow the same set origin, that just couldn't happen given the wide founding dates between each Aethling family. Suffice it to say, Chimeric alchemy took different paths on Planetos, and is considered a forbidden art, even to Aethlings (Even the Dunrecht could be invoked). Those younger houses that have chimerans got theirs through royal approval, and even then, there is a marked difference between certain older and younger chimerans clans, some of which I've already hinted at.

Q: Well gee wiz Mero, If Chimeric alchemy is illegal, we can only logically assume that chimerans reproduce through mating? How does that work?

A: Kinky, but you would be correct. And while I reserve the right to make the small changes here or there. This is the current working idea of procreation, not taking into consideration any caveats.

A Chimeran will usually reproduce amongst the extended clan. This ensures the standard clan populations are stable and don't have any..." problems." A Chimeran (well, most) can reproduce with a human. However, there is a catch to this. While the child may be born with the standard clan properties, they may not always have that same innate loyalty to the Princes that their parent has. Which can make them problem children if they so choose to go their own way. How this has been handled in the past is up to your imagination, but it hasn't always been pretty. What about Inter-chimeran relations? It can and has happened in the 4000+ year history of Westeros. Usually, this is a 50/50-coin flip on traits, with either or both children going to the clan whom they take after. Rarely, however, a child can be born with both traits. These children are considered unstable, and the most dangerous of all. With no examples of such children showcasing any type of innate loyalty to either house. Or that's how it's working at the moment.

Q: The chimeran, how often do they interact with each other? Do they often fight or skirmish?

A: You know that question has far more historic and social connotations than one might initially imagine. They interact with each other about as often and in such complex ways as you might imagine the CIA and MI6 would work with each other in a semi-rural setting. The nature of how often they "skirmish" with one another would also change depending on the era. In the Current setting, 5000ish A.M, the days of nobles jockeying and invading each other have largely been (though, not completely) left in the past. In the past, they would have been shock-troops, or commanders, or even people who "watched" commanders. Now, clan-on-clan violence would be more overt. More knives-in-the-shadows than swords-on-the-battlefield, if you catch my drift. Of course, that means some excel far more in this area than others.

I'd like to give a thank you to AngelFaux for beta-ing even this.

I expect the next update will be about the Schwarhund. The next chapter...will depend on how much I can get done during spring break. Ciao y'all.

For those here on fanfiction, also be informed that this story thread (Same name) on [Spacebattles] also makes use of pictures. Check it out. You may learn a thing or two about our setting that I didn't get around to writing.
