Oh.
What used to be light has turned dull. The eyes that gleamed with excitement over every little thing became a mirror of her younger brother's apathetic eyes. They stared back to the dim light of the phone screen, straight to the numbers telling time, blankly telling her that it has just past midnight: 12:01.
Tomoyo sighed to herself and a small gleam on her face appeared. Suddenly, with excitement slowly crossing her face, her fingers began to tap and opened an app. A small smile began to curve as it loaded and as if she's seventeen again, she felt giddy.

She did not hesitate and immediately tapped the blue button that would subtract the money she earned. Even so, her smile that was once small has widened at the sight of her purchase. Especially when this leisure expense is a gift for herself.
"Happy birthday, Tomoyo." She greeted herself.
Now twenty-three, she still indulged in an old habit she started in high school. The years that have passed was nothing to what she felt. Although five years is a long time, the memories of her youth felt like yesterday. The feeling of adoration she harbored to an otome character still remained and continues to blossom.
"You have me wrap around your finger, after all."
And her thumb tapped home. Her eyes stared at the smiling face of her eighteen-year-old self. Happy, carefree – she was naïve to think that everything will be okay at that time, unaware of shattering words that led to the state she is right now. Tomoyo stared, her mind wishing, like any other day, how she wants to turn back in time. Even so, even if she hardened her resolve, it would not sway his mind.
Why…
Her wallpaper was a photo taken on their high school graduation. It was supposed to be just her and her friends. It was a nice photo taken by her brother, depicting the happiness on their faces of finally free from teenage life. To normal people, she may appear as a sentimental person. Having such old photo as wallpaper for years – indeed, she is. Because he just so happened to be there as well with his lean back turned to the camera and only the back of his head captured.
The heart that beats for him and the eyes used to his face knew that it was him without anyone telling her so. He was surrounded with girls around their age like any other day, demanding for the buttons of his coat. The Tomoyo then has his neck tie wrapped around her head like a band, already claimed what was hers.
You have me wrapped around your finger after all.
Oh, what was supposed to be hers.
You have me…
Once, her brother asked her if she's a masochist. She replied with silence, unsure of what to answer and couldn't bring to think of a joke without him getting pissed at her indifference. The wallpaper, as he said, should have been deleted if she would only cry at the sight. Tomoyo knew she was being a fool and blinded with profound adoration, she didn't do it. She kept the wallpaper.
After all, what is a mere photo after all the things she endured just to be with him. It is just a photo; it shouldn't hurt that much. But it was a photo with him that it hurts every time she would glance at the back of his head.
Maybe, I am a masochist.
For she would stare at it. She would stare enough for the mind to go back and believe the past is happening once again. And whenever it does, the ache in the heart he inflicted after the photo was taken, began to numb and knock to add more cracks. She would feel her heart getting ripped and she would sigh to ease the pain.
And she would do it again until she couldn't take it anymore. Her brain would continue to relive of the memories. The events would feel like a dream – a movie, that continuously will flash in the back of her head – of the days she could never go back. As well as bonds that has long been severed and probably forgotten.
For it has been years…
"Tooru…"
Tomoyo took one last glance at the picture before turning off the device. Her eyes looked at the ceiling and still thinking of that awful brunette, she closed her eyes with a hope for a dreamless night.
I… missed you.

[a picture of someone's back taking a picture of Date Masamune's statue]
It's September 5 in JPN!
Feliz cumpleaños, Masamune-sama!
Note:
A month! And I am back!
It has been a while since the first series of Setter Squad was completed: Superfluous. I did a lot of thinking, taking me weeks and a month to decide between Oikawa and Atsumu as I already have a plot for their story a long time ago. Well, the decision has been made and here it is!
Compared to the fluff-filled with a chapter of eroticism Superfluous, Kintsukuroi will be something I'm not entirely good at. I'm basically challenging myself in this genre, being not good with angst. Yes, a-n-g-s-t.
It's September 5 here in my country. I hereby post this first chapter to celebrate the birthdate of my favorite character in an Otome game (Samurai Love Ballad: PARTY). I love him because his character kinda reminded me of Tobio, y'know? And I rewatched Haikyuu again for the nth time this year, rereading the manga and saw the picture of Oikawa wearing Date Masamune's battle suit. I couldn't… after seeing that…
To the people who still reads Superfluous, I love you! Thank you so much! I am hoping you'll find enjoyment reading Kintsukuroi as well.
See ya!
