Hello! If you have made it to the second chapter, I appreciate your patience. I promise in the next chapter we will see some familiar characters. I just really thought Olivia needed a backstory before she was introduced to original characters so you can sense her personality. As always reviews are welcome and my inbox is always open, thanks! Also I do not own Beauty and the Beast.
Chapter II
When me and Sophie got home, we had lunch then went our separate ways. She took a shower, I sat on the porch and read till I got too cold. Then she cooked dinner and we made small talk while we ate, then got ready for bed. It was getting close to midnight, usually around this time Henry comes home in a drunken state. Depending on his mood, he would either seek me out to yell his thoughts and regrets at me or he would just pass out on the couch or his bed if he could make it up the stairs.
I was sitting up in my bed reading my book I bought earlier that day with very little reading light. I looked to the clock 12:15, then I looked to my door preparing myself for whatever mood he was going to be in. As soon as I went back to my book, I heard the front door slam shut. I quickly closed my book and turned off my lamp on my nightstand. I rushed to shove my book under my pillow and pretended to sleep. Trying to steady my breathing with my heart pounding in my chest, I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs. 'Please don't come in here, just go to sleep' I thought. My heart was racing as he got closer, I heard him muttering to himself. I heard a loud thump right outside my door and my heart stopped. He groaned then walked past my door. I heard his door open and close, I let out a deep sigh. 'Well, I was spared tonight' I thought. 'I have to get Sophie out of here'
The next morning me and Sophie didn't talk much. I think we were both just worried about how tonight would play out. I cleaned the house to make sure Henry didn't have anything to yell about when he got home so Sophie could make her escape, and then my own. I decided I would leave when Sophie does instead of waiting for him to kick me out, if Henry found out that I had anything to do with her leaving this hell hole he would ring my neck. Sophie would be fine with Ethan; she will finish school and start her own life. As for me I plan on working at the coffee shop and go to school as much as I can to finish the school year. Thankfully I bought my car myself, so I have that to sleep in while I figure things out. My bag was packed, I tried to fit as much stuff in my car, still leaving me room to live in it.
I knocked on Sophie's door, she opened it. "Hey.." I said shyly, my nerves were all over the place. "Hey." She said and moved out of the way to usher me in. She went back to her bag to finish packing, I sat on her bed. "Are you almost done packing?" I looked to the clock in her room "It's 11:50" She zipped up her bag and said "Yep. I'm ready as I'll ever be." She sat on the bed next to me, I looked to her "I'm scared." She said, I brushed her arm with my thumb "It'll be alright, is Ethan down the street so you can go with him?" She nodded. "You can do this; you don't want to stay here do you?" I asked praying she would say no. "No, I don't want to stay. I know I should leave and live a better life⦠it's just .. I don't want to hurt him by leaving. When we are gone, he won't have anyone left." She had sympathy for him, something I could not relate to. I didn't know what to say, she spoke up again "I know it's stupid.. but he was good once ya know? Before Mom.. passed" I gave her a small half smile "I know."
I heard the garage door opening my head snapped towards her door. I turned back to her, "He's here, put your bag under your bed and pretend to sleep, I'll tap on your door when it's time to go" I said quickly, she looked petrified, I grabbed her hand and squeezed "It'll be alright" I whispered.
I rushed back to my room and quietly closed my door and turned off the light then dove into my bed. He was drunk alright; I could hear him running into everything downstairs. 'Go up the stairs, please just go to sleep in your room.' I needed him to sleep in his bedroom so we could go out the front door without being heard. If he passed out on the couch it would make things more difficult for us to leave, still we would find a way out of here.
I tried to breathe as quiet as possible, listening to his footstep; attempting to figure out where he was in the house and what he was doing. I heard a loud thud; 'Well he either knocked over a bowling ball or he fell to the ground' My guess is that he fell, he let out a groan. I heard footsteps coming to the stairs 'Yes! Please go to bed.' I thought; my heart pumping as if I was watching an action movie.
My excitement quickly turned to fear as I heard his footsteps fading away. 'No no no, he's going to the couch. God damnit' I heard one last thud then silence, I wait a couple minutes to see if I heard anymore movement. I got up and cracked my door open and I heard him snoring from downstairs. 'Damnit' I closed my door quietly and I started pacing my room trying to think. 'Plenty of windows we could go out of, but would that be too loud? Jumping from a two-story window onto the garage roof?' That's the only way we could leave tonight, and it had to be tonight. When the clock struck midnight that made me officially eighteen, Henry would constantly say 'The minute you turn eighteen you're out of this house. Do you hear me? The only reason I let you stay here is to help your sister' I grimaced at the thought 'Well I am going to help her; I am going to get her out of here, tonight.'
I grabbed my bag and quietly left my room, closing the door behind me. I lightly tapped on Sophie's door; she opened it quietly. I walked in and held my finger to my lips "He's asleep on the couch" I whisper, aggravated as I closed her door. Sophie looked at me with sorrow, she thinks our plan has failed. I will not let that happen "Grab your bag" I said. She looked at me confused and lifted an eyebrow "What?" she asked, "I said grab your bag we're leaving tonight." I whispered as I grabbed some of her things. "What do you mean? How are we going to get out of here? We're on the second floor." Sophie whispered back agitated. I looked to the window in her room, below that window is the roof of the garage, I looked back to her. Sophie looks to the window then to me "What? Are you crazy!? I can't jump that far down!" She loudly whispered, fear in her voice.
"Well, you're going to have to tonight, you can do this" I whispered back "Now get dressed and put your shoes on." Sophie gulped and nodded. Once she was ready to go, I opened the window. It was chilly out tonight; she zipped up her jacket and threw on her backpack. I grabbed her bag and threw it as far away from the window as I could. I winced as it hit the ground with a loud thud. I looked to her with fear in my eyes, we both stayed still and silent waiting to see if Henry made any sounds downstairs, he didn't. "Ok, we should be good, you're going to jump from the window on to the garage then on to the grass. When you hit the grass grab your bag and run, run as fast as you can and do not look back and wait for me." I said stern, she started to tear up, but she nodded. "Ok" she said sheepishly.
Sophie went to crouch in the window, preparing to jump. She looked to me, and I nodded for her to go. She jumped and landed on the roof of the garage; it was louder than I had thought. She looked back at me "Go, go!" I whispered loudly. She did, she jumped from the garage to the grass and went to grab her bag.
As she went to grab her bag, I threw mine out the window next to hers. With my car keys in my hand, I prepared to climb the window to jump, then the door slammed open. It was Henry, eyes wide with anger. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" He said calmly as he walked towards me. Before I turned around to face him, I looked to Sophie below, she must've saw the panic in my eyes because she didn't run away. 'Damn you Sophie, run!'
I turned around and stood my ground. This was probably the last time I see this man; I will not shrink to him. He kept walking towards me "Huh? Answer me girl. Where are you going?" He stopped right in front of me. "I will not take your grief-stricken hatred towards me anymore" I raised my chin as the words came out of my mouth. He chuckled, "Oh, is that so? Where are you going to go?"
He thinks I am still scared of him because he's bigger than me and loud, not anymore. "Anywhere is better than here you bastard." He did not like that, he stepped forward "How dare you speak to me like that, you have no idea how much pain you have caused me." He was grinding his teeth with fury. "I didn't kill her; it wasn't my fault." I said confidently. I could see the fire in his eyes. He grabbed my throat and lifted me up "You fucking bitch, she wanted a child so bad, little did she know you would be the cause of her death, you should've died instead of her." He dropped me to the ground, I gasped trying to catch my breath. He bent down to get in my face "You are worthless." He said pointing a finger in my face. I lifted my eyes to him, "Fuck you" I said hoarsely. "You are WORTHLESS." He was now screaming "Even your own parents didn't want you, they left you at a fire station." He ended laughing.
As he turned around to grab one of Sophie's belts from the back of her door, I scanned the room for my keys. I just need to make it out this window and I'll be free; I saw my keys got tossed under Sophie's bed. I slide to grab them; Henry turns around belt wrapped tightly over his hands. With my keys in my left hand, I take my right hand and pull out a pair of scissors that were under the bed; I never thought I would be grateful Sophie's room was always a mess. Without a second thought I take the scissors and jam them into the top of his barefoot. He let out a heart wrenching scream of pain, I tossed the scissors and climbed the window as fast as I could and jumped.
As I landed on the roof of the garage. I made eye contact with Sophie. "Olivia!" She yelled. I jumped from the roof to the grass, "I told you to run!" I said frustrated as I ran to my bag. "I know I'm sorry." She said tears in her eyes. I grabbed my bag and we both ran; my car was parked down the street across from Ethan's. Once we were far enough away and close to my car, we slowed down and I pulled her in for a fierce hug; "Oh, thank God." I said breathlessly. I pulled away and looked her in the eyes "Ok, we have to get out of here." I brushed a tear from her cheek. "Now, go out there and make your own life. Don't look back, do you hear me? There is nothing left for you here." I pulled her in for another hug, I honestly wasn't sure when I was going to see her again. I didn't plan on hurting Henry, but what's done is done and now I have to lay low. I'm sure he will call the cops; I need to hide, and Sophie can't be involved. Once we pulled apart, I grabbed her hand and squeezed "I love you." I said with a weak smile. She sniffled, "I love you too, Liv." Ethan started his car, and she ran to it, I waved to Ethan, he nodded. I saw her get in his car, she closed the car door and turned her head to look back at me; I waved as they drove away. I took a deep breath and jumped in my car and sped off to the back roads trying to get as far away as possible.
