The Red Wizard

By SilverHoodedKitsune

Hey everyone! Chapter 3 is here! I'm amazed at the attention that this story is getting. I love it! Thanks to everyone that reads and also to all the reviews. I read them all which helped we realise a plot hole I had accidentally created in this chapter while writing. So thank you everyone and hopefully this will answer a few more questions that some of you had. This is a bit of a shorter chapter compared to the previous two. The fourth chapter is almost done so shouldn't be too long of a wait.

This is obviously a Harry Potter and Highschool DxD Crossover story. I do not own the rights to Harry Potter nor Highschool DxD. I'm just having some fun playing in the Wizarding World and the DxD World. Please support creators by purchasing their work. Also, everyone depicted is of age. Cheers.

Also I started an account on AO3 with the same Username and Story titles. Just in case this ends up getting deleted for whatever reason.

Warning: This story involves violence, mentions of darker themes and unconventional relationships yet is consensual on those involved. The story will also have dark and juvenile humour. I decided to add a warning after seeing a few stories with them lately.

The Red Wizard

Chapter III: Horcruxes

Harry woke up to darkness. At first, he didn't realise his eyes were open. He felt weightless as if floating in water yet there was no resistance. He blinked or at least he thought he did.

Am I dead? He asked the vastness.

Is that what you want? A deep booming voice answered him.

Harry jumped and whirled around trying to find where the voice had come from. He did not think anyone, or anything would answer.

I don't know. Harry answered honestly.

You don't know? I have been granted to you and you refuse me? You have no desire to live? Therefore I should not have wasted my time.

I what? Who are you?

I've been with you since your birth. Protecting you and this is the thanks I get? I saw all the potential that you have. Your heritage. Your magic. The trials that you have overcome. I have been with you every step of the way.

God?

I am not the white god! You insult me.

Satan?

Hahaha I am not of any religion Harry Potter. I am something far greater. I have been known as the god killer! Yet you still don't hear me.

What are you talking about?

My name, boy! I have told it to you multiple times yet you cannot hear it. The voice sighed. If you do not wish to live than the other will take control.

The Other?

Voldemort.

What!

I see that has gotten your attention.

What about Voldemort?

You and he, or at least a part of him, both occupy the same body. Only one soul per body. That has been the agreement since the dawn of you mortals.

Stop the riddles and answer me! Harry demanded of the void.

There is the backbone I have grown to know. The voice laughed with glee. The soul piece in your scar. The scar on your soul. The two of you have been fighting for control of your body for years. Only my intervention has stopped the vile thing from usurping you. If you choose death now, then Voldemort wins. He regains a body. A body that I am bound to. If you think he was bad before just wait till he awakens me. He will have the power to rule this world.

What do I need to do? Harry asked with determination.

The two devil girls have given you the opportunity to confront the soul piece. I will lower the barrier between you both. Once I do the last one standing will be the owner of your body.

How do I fight him? Harry asked. I don't even have a wand.

This is the limbo of your soul. Just will one to appear and you will have it.

Harry thought about his holly and Phoenix feather wand. He opened them to have his wand there in his hand.

You have your weapon now. The voice said. You will need to give this battle your all. You can't show mercy. Even if he begs you cannot spare him. Otherwise he will kill you.

Harry nodded to the darkness. I'm ready.

Good luck Harry Potter.

Harry opened his eye to find himself in the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch. He was on the grassy field with the stands and towers encircling it. The place was just like he had remembered it, even though it had been a few years since he last saw it.

"Hello Potter."

Harry turned around to see Voldemort. Or at least who he assumed was Voldemort. The man before him was different than the wraith in the back of Quirrell's head and far older than the teen memory that had opened the chamber of secrets. The man appeared to be in his fifties yet was handsome and had a charismatic air about him. Yet Harry could feel the dark magic taint bleeding off of him.

"Voldemort." Harry greeted him.

"Funny that after everything that has come between us that this is how you will die." He smiled viciously. "I will need to thank those Fallen Angels once you are gone."

"I was thinking along the same lines." Harry said as he gripped his wand.

"No sense standing on ceremony." Voldemort said. "You learned how to duel in second year."

Harry continued to stare at his mortal enemy.

"First we bow." Voldemort bowed to Harry. His head down. Harry bowed back but did not take his eyes off of the dark wizard.

"Good." Voldemort smiled. "Some honour in you. Now on three?"

"One."

"Two."

Voldemort launched the killing curse at Harry before he even finished saying two. The sickly green spell soared at him, and Harry dodged to the right. He ended up going into a dive, and then a roll to get out of it as Voldemort sent off two more killing curses. Harry fired off a reducto spell back while in mid roll.

"Rrrraaahhhb!" The scream that ripped from Voldemort's lips filled Harry with a sick satisfaction. Harry missed Voldemort's head but got his shoulder. The spell clipped him, but the damage was the same. Bone and muscle exploded outward leaving Voldemort's left arm hang limply at his side.

"POTTER!" The dark lord's eyes turned red and focused his murderous intent on the boy in front of him.

"I'm not a boy anymore." Harry said as he fired off three spells in quick procession.

Voldemort summoned a rock wall that sprouted from the ground. The spells shattered the construct but unfortunately Voldemort was fine.

The two remained in a stalemate. Voldemort pulled from his experience and vast magical reserve of power. Whereas Harry had the physical body of an athlete to rely on. Still the spells had ripped apart the field and could barely be recognized as being a quidditch pitch. The stands burned in the background as the grass was gone. Transfigured many times by both combatants that a swampier landscape had appeared.

Harry cast fiendfyre to reduce the army of snakes, that Voldemort had summoned to ashes. Both Harry and Voldemort were panting. They had lost track of how long the battle had been raging. Voldemort still remained in the general area that he started in. Barely moving if he could. He had also healed his arm enough to move it again. Harry on the other hand had used all the ground he wanted and was only littered with minor injuries. Still it ended with him almost endlessly circling Voldemort. A stalemate indeed. The first to break it would be the winner. A fact they both knew.

"Well fought, Potter." Voldemort panted. "You do your family name proud."

"Had enough yet old man?" Harry taunted. His comment got another spell fired at him. He dodged easily. He had taunted old snake face from the start. The dark lord was quick to anger and with his anger he got sloppy. Something Harry made sure to capitalize on.

"Don't get too cocky." Voldemort spat. Then he launched another chain of spells that Harry expertly dodged and deflected. A gymnast would be jealous of the way Harry moved. After the last spell passed him, Harry ran to his right to get a better angle before he fell down. His legs, up to his thighs, had sunken into the earth. His mobility was gone. Which also took away his only true advantage.

"Fuck."

"Hahaha." The cold laugh rolled across the ground to him. Voldemort smirked. Glee was on his face. Savage glee. "I think our dance has gone on long enough."

Harry started to cast multiple spells at the ground to free himself. All of them failed and then his wand was summoned away from him. He watched as his holly wand landed in Voldemort's outstretched hand.

"Hums with the same feeling as mine." Voldemort observed. "Brother wands. Who would have known?"

Harry then tried to lift himself out with pure strength. His arms pushed down against the earth, but nothing happened. He struggled as Voldemort walked closer and closer towards him.

This can't be the end. Harry thought. I wouldn't let this be the end.

Is that your desire? Your will? The voice from earlier asked him.

I want to defeat him. I want to win! I want to live! Harry roared in his mind. Still desperate to get free.

Hear my name and shout it out loud!

"Goodbye, Harry Potter." Voldemort said as he aimed Harry's own wand at him. The end glowed green.

"DDRAIG!"

An explosion of power blasted outwards from Harry. The wind and dust kicked up and sent all the debris flying. Voldemort was thrown off his feet and landed hard on his back. He quickly stood and levelled both wands toward the epicentre.

The dust and wind had died down to reveal Harry still partly buried. Voldemort laughed.

"One last trick that never paid off." He smiled and then pointed both wands at him again. "Avada Kedavra!" The twin green jets shot towards him.

You have awakened me! Now take the power of the Welsh Dragon!

As the spells neared Harry raised his left hand. A red armoured gauntlet was shining. The emerald jewel on the back of the hand flashed eerily with the same colour of the curses heading towards him. Instantly the power that the voice had said entered him mind. In slow motion Harry summoned a small ball of green light in front of the gauntlet. He reached back with his fist and punched it.

"Dragon shot!"

The instant his knuckles hit the ball of light a beam of emerald flames burst forth. The beam was wide and vaporized everything in its path. When it finally died down Harry saw the glassed earth were the beam had travelled. He also found himself freed of the trap. Harry stood up. He had blown a hole through the pitch and towards one of the mountains that were in the distance. He noticed that said mountain was now missing its peak.

Harry looked down at the gauntlet on his hand in wonder and awe. He expected some fear, but none came.

A quiet groan shook him back to reality.

There laying on the ground fifty yards away was Voldemort. Or what was left of him. Laying there dying was his enemy. The man that had taken his family. Had taken his childhood. Had ruined his godfather's life. Had hounded him and threatened his life every year since his eleventh birthday. Harry finally stood victorious.

Voldemort had lost his whole left side of his body. His arm, the majority of his chest and belly, and his leg had been vaporized. His right arm and leg were intact but badly burned from the heat of the flames. The wands had burned in the heat and were an ash pile in his palm. A thin strip of muscle on his torso was the only thing connecting his upper and lower body. The smell was the thing that had hit Harry first as he now stood within reach of Tom Marvolo Riddle. The smell of melted and boiled flesh and bone.

"I did well in choosing you." Voldemort said as he gazed up at Harry. Then he stopped breathing. Just like that Voldemort turned into dust before his eyes.

The ground beneath his feet gave way and Harry was falling. The whole arena was collapsing in on itself. Harry scream as he fell into the darkness again. He landed hard and shook himself. The gauntlet still on his hand as he pushed himself to his feet. He stood in the great hall of Hogwarts.

It was different than usual. The four long house tables were gone. Instead four massive castle like towers stood in their place. Harry blinked then shook his head. They weren't castle towers. They were pawn pieces from chess. He had played enough wizards' chess against Ron to recognize the pieces anywhere. They were big and rose up towards the enchanted ceiling. Two of the pieces were a sapphire blue. The other two a ruby red. They looked slightly dull until Harry approached and touched the one where the Gryffindor table should have been. As soon as he touched in it lit up. A glow from within shone out through the gem like structure.

Good. The voice said. Now activate the others.

Why? What will it do? Harry asked warily.

You desired to live. This is the start of making that happen.

Harry quickly touched the other three. The next closest out glowed red and the other two blue.

Next head outside. The voice said. I am waiting for you.

Harry walked out the hall and down the stairs and pushed open the entrance door. He was met with a giant red dragon. He froze as the massive creature stared down at him.

Oh shit. Harry thought as he took a step back. The dragon moved quicker than he thought a creature of it size and mass could. Its head came level with him, and a large reptilian eye regarded him.

It is nice to finally have a face to face, my new partner. The voice said.

Harry blinked in surprise. Wait the dragon, is you?

Of course it is. Who did you expect? A Pygmy Puff?

Harry snorted at that and imagined a giant red puffball. So who are you?

I am Ddraig, the Welsh Dragon. Also known as the Red Dragon Emperor and one of the two Heavenly Sky Dragons.

Should I know you? Harry asked.

Know me! The Welsh have me on their flag! You're English! Surely you have seen it!

Harry thought about it and nodded he had but never knew the dragon had a name.

Ddraig sighed. Wizards today. You all forget your history.

Sorry but you said you were with me from my birth so you should know I'm new to the wizarding world relatively speaking.

Yes, no doubt about that. Ddraig sighed.

So what exactly are you doing with me? Harry asked. I'm grateful you helped me defeat Voldemort but what are you doing here?

Ddraig sigh again. It's a long story. One that is millennia old. The short version is I am trapped in this. He reached out a claw bigger than Harry's whole body and gently tapped the gauntlet on Harry's arm.

You're trapped in a gauntlet?

It's a long story! Ddraig said defensively.

Ok, ok! Harry raised his hand in surrender.

Needless to say I'm stuck in it. The power that the gauntlet is called is a Scared Gear. Mine is called the Red Dragon Emperor. A title which you now share with me.

Great another title. Harry groaned.

Cheeky brat. Ddraig grinned and multiple massive fangs showed.

I am a god tier being, Harry. Ddraig said seriously. I have the power to slay a god. All of my power lays in that gauntlet that you now have. You have the potential to be the most powerful being in existence.

Harry's eyes widened as he turned his head to the thing on his arm.

What if I don't want it?

You don't have a choice. Neither do I. That was fate that gave you this. That and the white god that helped defeat me. He was the one to shove my soul into the damned glove!

You said this happened a long time ago? Harry asked.

Yes.

And you're still bitter?

Hey! I'm a dragon! We are a proud race and yes… maybe we hold onto grudges a bit too long. I will admit. Yet you mortals are what keeps me from going insane.

So am I your first? Harry asked.

First what? First wizard?

First partner?

No. The first one was a human named Jason I believe. You know the Greek hero.

Jason and the Argonauts?

Yes them!

Wow.

Though you are the first wizard. As well as the first devil and first-

Wait I'm a devil? Harry asked in shock.

Of course. What did you think when I meant those devil girls and what did you think the pawns where?

I turned them down though.

Yes, but you were dying. Remember?

Harry closed his eyes trying to remember his last moments. Saji was there and then Sona and Rias. They were holding chess pieces.

They reincarnated me. Harry whispered.

They did. Though in all honesty you could have died, and Voldemort would have been reincarnated in your body. You made the best decision. You live and Voldemort is one step closer to the grave.

I didn't want this though. Harry said.

Hmm?

I wanted to die. I wanted to see my parents. Harry said shell shocked.

Loss is never easy Harry. Ddraig said seriously. Take it from me. I have had lots of partners and all of them were mortals. Humans that were above the rest, but they still were mortals. I grew to love each of them, but they die. I'm an immortal being. It takes a toll. I know it's not the same as losing a parent, but they gave their lives for you to live. You chose to live and in doing so you honour them.

Harry listened and nodded sadly.

Devils are not immortal. Sure they live incredibly long lives, but they do eventually die. You will still see them. It just might be a bit longer than you previously thought.

Have you always watched me? Harry asked him.

Ddraig nodded. More or less.

Then you know about the horcruxes?

Yes.

Did you know about my understanding? That I knew that there was no way to beat him with his soul inside me?

Ddraig was silent.

I resolved myself to die. I knew I faced death. I needed to die to win. To finally rid the world of him I needed to die. I accepted that. The only thing that made me have an upside was I would see my parents again. And honestly, I secretly was looking forward to it. How horrible is that?

Everyone thinks of death Harry. Everyone.

Still I'm a teenager. I have my whole life before me. Or at least I'm supposed to.

Yet when it came down to the choice whether to live or die. You choose to live. Why is that? Ddraig asked him.

Harry was silent. He tried to think of a better answer than the one that came to him.

I wanted to. I wanted to live.

And that is enough. Like you said. You are a teenager. You have your whole life ahead of you. You have been shouldering a burden that no one else could. Now you have been given a second chance.

Voldemort is still out there though. Harry pointed out.

Yes, but he is weaker now because of you. Plus now you have me with you. I will aid you through thick and thin. You have the power of the red dragon emperor now. You can mop the floor with him.

You think so?

I am Ddraig the Welsh Dragon! I no not lie!

-Line Break-

After Harry settled to the fact he was going to live and was now a devil thanks to his friends, maybe acquaintances were a better term. Still he had a new lease on life, and he was enjoying it. Ddraig had cheered him up by allowing him to ride on his back. The dragon hand taken to the sky and was soaring around Hogwarts. Ddraig had shrunken his appearance to be able to enjoy the school and surrounding landscape. Harry had made the comment that the whole place was like his mind palace that he had constructed once he had learned occlumency from Sirius.

Ddraig had agreed and told him that is where they currently were. He had explained to Harry that in order to use Legilimency one had to have eye contact. The saying that eyes were the window to the soul has relevance here. The mind palace is part of a person's soul. Everything here is related to the soul.

That is when Harry had noticed the pawns.

Unlike the ones inside the great hall these pawns were like skyscrapers. There was a total of four of them. They all reached the same height as the astronomy tower. One was in the village of Hogsmeade, one in by the Black Lake, another in the Forbidden Forest and the final one in the main courtyard of the castle.

What are those?

Pawns.

I should have asked why are they so big?

They are mutation pieces. Ddraig answered as he circled one. They are special even by devil standards. You don't need to worry about them now.

Why aren't they glowing like the ones inside?

They are not active yet. Remember I mentioned the soul?

Yes?

These are part of your soul. As you grow through experiences so will your soul and these pawns will activate in time. Put them out of your mind for now. I will inform you when the time is right.

Ok.

Soon they landed and Ddraig looked at the setting sun. In his palace the sunset was in the opposite direction.

Your time is up. Your body has recovered from your ordeal and your new friends and masters will want to speak with you.

Thank you Ddraig. Harry said sincerely.

Of course, Harry. I am always around if you need me. The dragon said.

The world of Hogwarts started to shift and soon Harry was staring at the white ceiling of the nurse's office.
