It's a beautiful evening in Faircity, and Wordgirl is wandering the streets, completely and utterly bored. Well, at least someone who looks like Wordgirl, apart from the unusually green colored star on their costume.

"What the-" Xero glanced down, realizing their outfit wasn't exactly accurate to the original.

"Damn it! I thought I had it this time.. Whatever, it's close enough."

Xero shrugged and continued their walk.

"Why are you following me anyways, shouldn't you be over with Wordgirl? She's fighting some pretty huge robots.." Xero looked to the sky for a response, but none came.

"Ookay then."

Further down the street, Xero didn't need superpowers to overhear someone's distressed screaming. An elderly lady ran up to them frantically.

"Wordgirl! Please, I need your help!"

"Oh, I'm- " Xero thought for a moment and remembered their disguise. "YES! I'm Wordgirl! That's me. What seems to be the problem?"

"My cat climbed up a tree and just won't come down, would you please help me and get him?"

"Ah, well.. I'm sure he'll come down on his own time-" Xero waved their hand dismissively.

"Aren't you a superhero? You have to help me!" the lady pleaded.

Xero contemplated just leaving that cat in the tree. They were more of a dog person anyway. But Wordgirl wouldn't do that. Wordgirl would help anyone who was in need…

"Yes ma'am, I'm a superhero! I'll get your cat down, no problem." Xero assured her.

The lady smiled and showed Xero to the tree, which was much taller than they had expected.

"Woah. Ok, ummm.." Xero looked up at the tree uncertainly.

"How the hell did a cat manage to get all the way up there.." they questioned as they began to very carefully (and slowly) climb the tree, one branch at a time.

"This isn't too difficult.." they thought, now halfway up the tree.

"Couldn't you just fly up there Wordgirl? I'm sure it would be much faster.." the lady interrupted Xerox's thoughts.

"Oh, fly?" Xero yelled down, the momentary distraction causing them to almost slip off the branch.

"My uh, flying powers are kinda low right now. I have to.. recharge them!"

Now nearing the top of the tree, Xero spotted a small cat laying on a branch.

The cat eyed Xero suspiciously, and began moving further away.

"C'mere, kitty.." they reached out a hand to grab the cat, but it didn't seem to like that.

The cat jumped onto Xero's head and leapt from branch to branch, all the way to the bottom.

Xero looked down the tree, stunned.

"Great, that is just awesome." they mumbled, and began their careful descent.

Finally reaching the bottom, Xero brushed off the twigs and leaves that had collected on their costume.

"Wordgirl! You've saved my precious cat..I can't thank you enough." The lady smiled gratefully.

"Oh, it's no problem! It's all in a days work" Xero grinned, feeling somewhat more fulfilled after (sort of) helping someone out.

At that moment, the ground began to rumble and the sounds of creaking metal became louder and louder. Although that wasn't exactly an unusual event in Faircity, Xero didn't want to be seen by Wordgirl or that evil robot making kid.

"Um, I've got to go ma'am, I-"

Wordgirl rounded the corner, hovering just a few feet in the air and carrying a robot head as if it were a volleyball.

As if sensing there was another loose villain in the proximity, she immediately locked eyes with Xero.

That's not good.

They took off running, but it was obviously no use against the real hero's superpowers.

Wordgirl flew up and lifted Xero into the sky, landing them both on a rooftop.

"XERO. What in the world do you think you're doing?" She frowned at them angrily.

"Nothing! I wasn't even doing anything illegal, I just helped that lady-" they tried to explain.

"Aren't you supposed to be in jail for — at least another MONTH?!"

"I…got let out early for good behavior?" They smiled nervously.

Wordgirl stared at them unamused, but luckily the sound of robots powering up again stopped her from pointing out their obvious lie.

"I don't have time for this right now. Just - stop pretending to be people you're not, ok?" Wordgirl zipped away before Xero could reply.

They watched the hero fly away, and could see the robots falling down like dominos throughout the city.

Xero let out a sigh, sitting down to watch the fight from above.

They wondered if it was possible for them to become anything like Wordgirl. An inspiration to others. Someone who's known for always helping someone else in need.

But Xero knew better. With their unfortunate "power", the best they'll ever be is a failed copy.
