"Come on, it wasn't that cool…"
"Hey don't sell yourself short! The way you handled those Grimm was awesome! You've learned a lot, I can tell!"
Yang was currently complimenting Ruby on her performance at clearing out a small horde of Grimm in the forest near Beacon. They'd been sent there to deal with it, as Ozpin felt like it would be a bit too much for any new students that could come in and go there to train. He'd trusted the pair of sisters to clear them out, and Ruby had performed spectacularly. Yet, she was trying to downplay it.
"I'm telling you, it wasn't much!" Ruby insisted.
"It was an entire horde!" Yang countered.
"A small one!" Ruby said back. Yang laughed and grabbed her sister, pulling her close. Ruby struggled to break free as Yang rubbed her head.
"For real though, I'm proud of you! And I know Mom would be too!" Yang said. Ruby felt herself blush at the compliment.
"Th-thanks…" Ruby said, and Yang laughed again.
"Awww? You're so cuuuute~!" Yang said, and planted a wet, sloppy kiss on Ruby's cheek.
"Ewwww!" Ruby said, but she was smiling. The two simply smiled at each other as they walked…
Until Yang's smile suddenly fell.
Yang began to scan their surroundings with a worried expression. Ruby's smile also fell at Yang's sudden seriousness. "Yang…?" Ruby asked, but Yang held a finger to her lips to signal for Ruby to be quiet. She continued looking around for a bit until her gaze fixed in one direction.
"Shit." Yang said, and she suddenly pushed Ruby aside just as a huge black mass bursted from the woods and swiped at Yang, who quickly avoided it. Ruby tumbled to the ground, but managed to quickly get back to her feet. She found Yang facing down an Ursa, glaring at her with glowing red eyes.
"Yang!" Ruby shouted as she started to run towards the Grimm, and her eyes went wide as a second Ursa suddenly appeared behind Yang. Yang barely had time to turn around before it tackled her, trapping her under one of its paws. Yang cringed in pain. Ruby growled and swiped at the first Ursa, which seemed to only barely notice. Yet it was enough for it to turn around to face Ruby. Ruby went pale as she stared up at the monster, and it reared its head back and roared loudly.
"Ruby, run!" Yang said, and began to load up her weapon, but before she could fire, the Ursa growled, leaned down, and bit down on one of her arms. Yang cried out in pain as she felt the sharp teeth digging into her skin.
"YANG!!" Ruby shouted, and had to quickly dodge a swipe from the other Ursa. She wanted to rush to save her, but she wasn't sure if she could get around the huge Grimm, which stared at her intently, seemingly waiting for a good opportunity to strike again.
"I'm…I'm fine, just run!" Yang said, and raised up her free arm, blasting the Ursa in the side of its head. It groaned in pain and before Yang and Ruby's eyes, it pulled hard and tore Yang's arm completely off.
Ruby felt her legs tremble, yet she also felt frozen to the spot as Yang screamed in pure agony. Crimson blood splattered the Grimm, as well as the ground as the Ursa swallowed the arm and licked its lips. Blood pooled from the wound onto the ground, and Yang's screams pierced Ruby's skull like a bullet.
She was too in shock to notice the Ursa rearing for another attack, and didn't dodge as it swiped at it, cutting apart the front of her clothes and tearing at her skin as it sent her flying backwards. She slammed into a tree, knocking the wind out of her as warm blood dripped down from the wound on her chest.
"R-Ruby!!" Yang shouted, her entire body shaking as sweat dripped down her face. She reloaded again, and aimed. But before she could fire again, the Ursa bit down on her other arm, and ripped that one off as well, spraying more blood across the green grass. More screams echoed through the forest. Ruby finally stirred, and looked up to see the Ursa's paw coming down once again. This time, she dodged it, feeling searing pain in her chest from the movement. She held a hand over her chest as she looked over at Yang. Ruby felt the blood drain from her face as she found blood oozing out of wounds on either side of her torso where her arms used to be. Yang angled her head to look back at Ruby.
"R-run…" she said, her voice weak and shaky.
"YAAAAANNNNGGGG!!" Ruby shouted, tears streaming down her face.
"I…I love-" Yang started, but was cut off as the Ursa bit down on her head. Ruby had to hold back the urge to vomit as she heard the sickening crunch of Yang's skull in the beast's mouth. Blood soared through the air, managing to fly far enough to splatter into Ruby's cheek. The Ursa chewed the head happily as it stared at Ruby, almost like it knew how terrified and broken Ruby felt.
"Y-Yang…" Ruby said. She felt her legs buckle, and her falling to her knees helped her to avoid yet another swipe from the Grimm. The attack reminded Ruby of the situation, but she found it hard to move. Once the Ursa was finished devouring Yang's head, it started to chew at the rest of her body, and Ruby was finally able to get herself to stand. As Yang's final words repeated in her mind, she turned and, without giving another look to the Grimm or Yang's body, began running. Sobs racked her body as tears fell down her face. Hearing the Ursa catching up to her, she activated her semblance, and the traumatized girl transformed into a flurry of red as she blasted off at high speeds, leaving behind rose petals in her wake…
Ozpin and Glynda watched as a mass of red moved quickly towards him. Glynda was worried after hearing what she believed to have been screams coming from the forest, and was anxiously waiting for the two sisters to return.
So when the fast mass of red transformed back into Ruby, who collapsed onto the ground in front of them, on all fours, sobbing uncontrollably, Glynda felt slight panic rising. That panic only grew when she saw blood dripping down from a massive gash in the girl's chest.
"Miss Rose, what happened? Where's…where's Miss Xiao Long?" She asked softly as she knelt down. Ruby stayed silent for a moment. Then, her body lurched and she vomited onto the ground, causing Glynda to jump in surprise.
As Ruby seemed to wretch her guts out, Glynda gently patted her back. Once Ruby was finished, she suddenly jumped onto Glynda. Glynda went wide-eyed as Ruby bawled into her chest. Unsure what to do, she simply sat there as Ruby cried, and looked towards Ozpin. The man looked away, his head tilted downward. The only sound left was Ruby's loud sobs of pain and sorrow as it echoed across the area.
Weiss and Blake bursted through the door into the infirmary as they searched for their leader. As soon as they spotted her, they rushed towards her bed.
"Ruby!" They both shouted in unison, before quickly getting scolded by the nurse to be quieter.
"Ruby, are you okay?" Weiss asked. Ruby had bandages wrapped around her entire upper body to cover up the chest wounds. Her face was pale, her hair was a mess, and her eyes were red.
"H-hey…" Ruby said, her voice cracking from all the crying she'd done.
"What happened? We heard that you and Yang had been attacked and taken here, but they wouldn't give us exact details." Blake explained. Ruby didn't answer. Blake looked around, and frowned. "Where's Yang?" Ruby felt a lump in her throat, and her fists clenched. Tears fell silently down her cheeks.
"Sh-she's…she was…" Ruby said, but seemed unable to finish the sentence. Yet…she didn't need to. Both girls knew instantly that Yang was…gone. Blake felt her body shudder as tears ran down her own cheeks, before she began to descend into sobs. Weiss didn't sob, but she also felt her eyes getting wet, quickly trickling down her face.
"Ruby…" Weiss said, and looked down. She hesitated for a moment before she reached out and gently gripped Ruby's fist, which immediately softened. Ruby looked up at Weiss, who looked back. The two didn't say anything, but they didn't need to. Ruby finally unclenched her fist and gripped Weiss's hand tightly, still staring at Weiss.
Eventually, Blake moved over to Ruby's other side, and gripped her other hand. As all three cried for their fallen teammate and friend in different ways, they held each others' hands tightly.
Ozpin gathered students together to announce the death of their classmate, withholding the exact details for obvious reasons, and to forbid anyone from entering the forest until professional huntsmen and huntresses cleared it out of the more dangerous hordes that had shown up. As Ozpin talked, the room became somber, with Weiss and Blake struggling to hold back their tears. Ozpin thankfully kept it brief before dismissing everyone.
"Ah, actually, may I talk to you two?" Ozpin said, stopping Blake and Weiss as they were about to leave.
"Yes, sir?" Blake asked.
"Ruby will be moved back to her room shortly, as per her request. Her wounds are not so bad that she has to stay in the infirmary for much longer, as long as she doesn't move too much and simply rests." Ozpin explained. "She doesn't need to attend classes, but I ask that you two bring her the homework and help her with it while she's incapacitated."
"Yes, sir." The two said with nods. Ozpin sighed.
"The death of a loved one is…not easy. It never gets easier even if you've already experienced it." Ozpin said. "Ruby is a strong girl, and she will recover, but she'll need your help to do so."
"Of course. She's our teammate…a-and our friend." Weiss said quickly.
"Right…" Ozpin said. He couldn't seem to meet their eyes anymore. "I simply ask that you be there for her as she needs it. Help her recover as best you can."
"We will." Blake assured him. He gave them a nod before walking off, leaving the two alone. Blake and Weiss looked up at each other for a moment before they walked back to their room together.
Later that day, Ruby was moved back to her room, where Weiss let her sleep in her bed on the bottom, as she wasn't allowed to do the movement required to get to the top. Ruby stayed in her pajamas, a simple black shirt over her bandages, and her pants covered in roses.
"Let us know if you need anything." Weiss said. "I'll be helping you stay caught up with class." Ruby simply nodded, and there was an awkward silence. Weiss tried for a smile as she spoke again. "J-just because you're injured doesn't mean you get to slack off on your studies!" Ruby didn't answer, and Weiss cleared her throat. "Hey, Blake, can you…um…can we have some time alone?"
"Yeah, sure." Blake nodded in understanding. "I'll be right outside if you need me." She left the room, closing the door gently behind her. Weiss took a deep breath, and knelt down next to the bed.
"Ruby…" she started. She wasn't really the best at these kinds of things, but she was going to try. "I know you're going through a lot, but we are here to help you, however you need us, as best as we can." Ruby still didn't speak, simply looking down as the blanket covering her, a hand against her chest. Weiss sighed.
"I know I can't…know how you're feeling, but…" Weiss said, "…even though I can't understand it perfectly, I know that…if I lost my sister…right in front of me like that…I would be just as devastated." Finally, Ruby looked up and over at Weiss. "My sister was always there for me growing up. She would be the one to take the blame for things, but still knew to scold me afterwards. She trained me to be ready for anything, and be able to protect myself. She helped me become who I am today." Ruby felt the tears coming down once again. "Even when my sister left, I felt devastated…but…at least I knew she was alive. If I'd seen her…like that…I don't…" Weiss felt herself shaking uncontrollably. Then, she felt something grab her hand. She looked over to see Ruby holding it. She shifted her gaze up, and found Ruby staring at her with red, wet eyes.
"Thank you, Weiss." Ruby said. She pulled Weiss close, and into a hug. Usually, Weiss would've felt repulsed, but…this time, Weiss hugged back, simply enjoying the comforting embrace of her friend.
"We will do our best to help you get past this, okay?" Weiss said, and Ruby nodded. Weiss felt a small smile spread across her face as she clutched Ruby tightly.
Over the next two weeks, Weiss did as she said she would, and brought in the homework and notes she'd collected during class for Ruby to look at. For the first few days, Ruby barely responded, and Weiss had to basically hold her pencil to the paper. But after those first few days passed, through encouragement from both Weiss and Blake, Ruby was able to start working a bit faster, and concentrate for a bit longer. She became a little more talkative, which relieved Weiss more than she would've expected. She never would've thought she'd miss hearing Ruby's voice so much.
Occasionally, Ruby would seemingly shut down, and simply stare off into the distance. She wouldn't respond at all, even if she was shook, poked at, spoken to, or had a hand waved in front of her face. It only lasted for a minute at most, but it was still incredibly distressing to Weiss and Blake when it happened.
While Weiss helped out with her studies, Blake helped with bringing her food, water, and helping her get to the bathroom when needed for the first couple days. Ruby was slowly recovering from the injury, but she needed help to do stuff at times. She was gradually able to move more on her own as time went on, though. While Ruby usually felt annoyed when she was treated like a child, right now, it actually felt kind of nice.
Weiss and Ruby only seemed to grow closer as they spent a lot of time together doing homework and going over notes. Those two weeks were the best scores Ruby had ever gotten, and Weiss couldn't help but feel proud of her. But at the same time, Weiss couldn't help but feel like Ruby's joy and wonder was…gone. She rarely ever smiled anymore, and never seemed to want to joke around. Even as her body recovered, her personality…didn't. Weiss tried not to worry about it, though. She was sure Ruby, given enough time, would eventually return to her former self.
"Hey, Weiss?" Ruby asked one day as they were working.
"Yeah?" Weiss asked.
"Can you help me to class tomorrow?" She asked. Weiss looked up at her.
"Are…are you sure?" Weiss asked.
"Yes…I think that, if you help me, I can start going to classes again." Ruby said. "Can you?"
"Of course! If you really think it's okay." Weiss said, and Ruby actually smiled. It was a small smile, but it was enough that, to Weiss, the room seemed to get just a little bit brighter.
So, the next day, Ruby accompanied Weiss and Blake to class for the first time in weeks. When they entered, Professor Port was surprised.
"Miss Rose! How are you feeling?" He asked, and Ruby suddenly felt all the eyes in the room on her, and she started regretting her choice.
"I-I'm…good enough, I suppose…" she said. "Thank you for asking."
"Well, that's good, I also suppose." He said. "But are you sure you should be out of bed?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Staying in bed all day can only help me so much, right?" She asked.
"Well…I'm not so sure about that, but sure! If you think you're good enough to be here, then by all means, welcome to class. Now, please take your seats. I was made aware that Miss Schnee was making sure you were kept up, so I assume I can continue from where I left off yesterday without issue?" He asked.
"Yes, sir." Ruby said as Weiss helped her to their seats. As Port began his lecture, Weiss got out her stuff, and looked over at Ruby. Ruby was staring at the empty seat where Yang usually sat, her expression one of sadness. Weiss reached over and gripped her hand, giving it a squeeze, which always seemed to help her. Ruby looked over at Weiss, who gave her a nod. Ruby managed another small smile as Weiss let go of her hand. She handed Ruby what she needed, and they started taking notes.
A few minutes into the class, Weiss couldn't help but notice how Ruby was sitting closer to her than usual.
"Have I ever said how surprisingly good the food is?" Ruby asked one day at lunch a few days after she'd started coming back to the actual lunchroom.
"No, but you're right. I mean, I'm used to rather…luxurious meals, but even so, this isn't bad, actually." Weiss admitted.
"True, some of this actually compares in taste to some of the stuff back home." Blake added. "Especially the sushi…" Weiss and Ruby rolled their eyes as Blake began drooling at the thought of more sushi, despite having already had her usual daily amount of it.
"Hm…" Weiss suddenly said.
"What is it?" Ruby asked.
"Ah! Um, nothing, don't worry about it." Weiss said. Ruby narrowed her eyes, but then shrugged and continued eating. Meanwhile, Weiss was looking across the cafeteria at Cardin. She was looking at him because he was staring at Ruby with an awful grin on his face. He'd been staring at her the entire time, and whispering to his friends. Weiss had a bad feeling something was about to happen, and she didn't want Ruby there for it.
"Hey, Ruby? Maybe…we should head back, we got some…stuff we have to do." Weiss suggested.
"What? But I'm not-"
"Come on!" Weiss said, suddenly standing up and grabbing Ruby's hand, pulling her to her feet. Blake gave Weiss a confused look, but Weiss shot back with one that said "I'll tell you later, but we need to go." Ruby, confused, went with it and walked behind Weiss as they approached the door. Unfortunately, they'd have to get kind of close to Cardin, but hopefully they could get out in time-
"Man, isn't this great?"
Ohhhhh fuck.
"It's so much quieter without that stupid blonde bimbo around." Cardin said, purposefully raising his voice as Weiss and Ruby tried to go past. Weiss cringed, and then paled when she felt Ruby stop dead in her tracks behind her.
"Cardin…" Weiss threatened, but he ignored her as he continued.
"I heard she got torn apart by an Ursa. Giant, bloody mess. Safe to say, she deserved it." Cardin said, staring right at Ruby with his sadistic grin.
"Ruby, don't listen to him, come on." Weiss said, and tried to pull Ruby along, but she seemed almost rooted to the spot. Weiss looked back and saw that Ruby had her head down, and her body was trembling. "Ruby, please, just-"
"What, you need your girlfriend to help you out? Can't do anything for yourself now that your big sister is gone?" Cardin said, and his friends laughed. Ruby suddenly stopped, and Weiss felt her face turn red. She became hyper aware of her hand in Ruby's, but she didn't let go.
"R-Ruby?" Weiss asked.
"I'll say it again. That stupid fucking bitch got what she-" Cardin said, but he suddenly stopped as something dark red slammed into him hard. It took a few moments before Weiss realized she was no longer holding Ruby's hand. Ruby had used her semblance to tackle Cardin in a split second. Weiss turned around, and she felt a gasp escape her as she stared at Ruby, who had in that split second, pulled out Crescent Rose, unfolded it, and now had the point of the blade pressed against Cardin's chest.
"Ruby!" Weiss cried out. By now, the entire cafeteria had gone silent in shock as they stared at Ruby, who was seemingly only a second away from stabbing Cardin through the chest.
"I-I-what…?!" Cardin said, shocked more than anything. Ruby growled, and shoved the point against his chest, enough to cause a bit of blood to flow.
"Ruby, don't!" Weiss said as she ran over. "I know it's tempting and would probably feel great, but you can't! Who knows what they'll do! They might expel you, or worse!" Weiss pleaded with Ruby as she placed her hands on her shoulders.
"Y-you…" Cardin said, glaring up at Ruby. Even so, Weiss could see the slight fear hiding in his eyes as he stared in the face of looming death.
"….never….say that again." Ruby finally said, and after pushing the blade a little bit deeper, making Cardin gasp, she pulled it out, and blood dripped from the very edge of the blade as she turned back to Weiss. "Let's go, Weiss." She said, folding Crescent Rose back up before storming out of the room. Weiss glanced at Cardin, who was holding a hand over his new chest wound, before running after Weiss.
"Ruby, are you…?" Weiss asked, grabbing Ruby's shoulder.
"No, Weiss, I'm not okay!" Ruby shouted as she turned around. "Why would I be okay?!"
"I…I just…"
"I know you want to help, but god, don't ask me if I'm okay! That's a stupid question! My sister is dead! I was this close to killing Cardin! I'm not fucking okay!!" Weiss couldn't help but cringe when Ruby cursed. "Just…I just…" As tears began to fall down her cheeks, her legs trembled, and Weiss rushed forward as Ruby fell to the floor. Ruby began sobbing against Weiss's chest as Weiss cradled her.
"I…I just…don't know what to do…or…how to…" Ruby said between sniffles.
"Hey, it's okay. I know…I know it's hard, but you have to get up and keep going. You know that's what she would've wanted." Weiss said.
"But it's…I…"
"You can't give up, Ruby. You have to keep going. I know I'm sort of sounding like a broken record, and I'm not very good at this…" Weiss rambled, and shook her head. "But…you have to. And you can do it, I know you can." Ruby sniffled, but was otherwise silent.
"Thank you, Weiss…" Ruby said, and wrapped her arms around her. This time, Weiss didn't hesitate to embrace her back. She felt warm, and nice. Weiss smiled as she held the poor girl in her arms in the empty hallway.
A few days later, Ruby was doing some studying while Weiss was busy doing something. She felt lonely, but thanks to Weiss, it wasn't as crushing as it used to be.
"Hey, Ruby?"
A timid voice made Ruby look up to find Blake standing in the doorway. "Can I talk to you?"
"Sure, of course." Ruby said, setting down her pencil and turning her chair to face Blake as she sat down next to her. The two sat in silence for a while, and it was clear Blake wasn't used to stuff like this. Just as Ruby was about to speak, Blake spoke.
"How…how are you…doing?" Blake asked hesitantly. She looked so serious, Ruby almost wanted to laugh.
"I'm…doing better." She said with a nod. Blake nodded as well, and the two went back into silence once more. Thankfully, it didn't last as long this time.
"I'm…I'm sorry this had to happen." She said.
"I know-"
"No, I mean…being a huntress…comes with the dangers, and…" Blake seemed to fumble over her words. Ruby figured she was expecting Ruby to be more torn up, which was understandable. Blake sighed. "Look…I just wanted you to know that…she probably knew the risks of becoming a huntress when she applied here." Ruby nodded solemnly. "So…I know it's not fair, but…"
"Blake…I'm…I'm fine, okay?" Ruby said. It wasn't completely a lie, she was feeling better, and she appreciated Blake trying to help. Blake took a deep breath and nodded.
"A-alright." She said. "Alright." Blake stood back up. "I'll…let you get back to it then." Ruby nodded, and Blake awkwardly left the room. Her attempt to help had backfired but…Ruby still felt a smile overcome her face.
A few days passed and Ruby seemed to only be getting better. She even started to seem like her former self again. She was making jokes, and was more energetic. Every time she laughed, Weiss felt her heart rate jump, and every time she smiled at Weiss, Weiss felt her face turn red. She didn't know why she felt that way whenever it happened, but she knew she didn't want it to stop. In fact, she was happy. She'd never enjoyed Ruby's stupid sense of humor more. They continued studying together, and even when Ruby was well enough to start sleeping in the top bunk again, Weiss would sometimes find her napping in her bed instead. Not that she really minded, to her surprise. Cardin also seemed to have been shocked so badly that he never brought up Yang again, at least in front of Ruby.
Yeah, things were looking up…
….until Ozpin showed up at their door.
The knock startled both girls as they were studying like usual. "I got it." Ruby said as she stood up, walked over to the door, and opened it. She was surprised to find Ozpin standing at the door with his usual somber expression.
"Miss Rose? May I speak with you?" He asked.
"Um…sure?" Ruby said, and started making her way back inside, but Ozpin shook his head.
"Actually, can you come on a walk with me?" He asked, and Ruby and Weiss looked at each other, with Weiss shrugging before Ruby turned back to him.
"Yeah, okay." Ruby said. "I'll be back, Weiss." Weiss nodded, and Ruby stepped out, closing the door behind her. The two silently began walking, with Ruby following Ozpin.
"I'm happy to see you studying so vigilantly." Ozpin said after a few moments.
"Yeah, I mean…it's boring sometimes, but…it's not as bad as it used to be, for some reason." Ruby contemplated, and Ozpin chuckled.
"I'm sure there's…ahem…some reason." He said, emphasizing the last two words. Yet, when Ruby simply stared at him in confusion, he shook his head. "How's your wound?" Ruby clutched a hand to her chest, where she knew the new scars of the wound rested underneath her clothes.
"Not bad, though one of the scars managed to go right over one of my-" Ruby started, but then suddenly stopped. Her face went red as she realized what she'd almost admitted, and this time Ozpin fully laughed.
"Don't worry, I won't inquire further." He said, and Ruby laughed nervously.
"Hey, Professor, where are we going?" She asked.
"Outside." Was all he had as an answer. Ruby could feel the questioning eyes of those they passed in the halls, and she felt like she wanted to curl into a ball. She hadn't felt this socially anxious since her first day here…she really wished Weiss was here…
"Why did you want me alone? Why couldn't Weiss hear?" She asked. Ozpin didn't answer and simply went out the door, leading them outside. Ruby had to blink a couple times to get used to the sudden sunlight. She hadn't been outside in a few weeks. She breathed in deeply, and the air felt…nice.
"Let's sit down over there." Ozpin said as he gestured to a bench. The two silently made their way over. Ruby listened to the sound of birds chirping, the gentle breeze blowing the grass, feeling it caress her cheeks. The two sat down, and stayed silent for a few more moments. "It's a gorgeous day, isn't it? So few clouds in the sky…the sky is a beautiful blue…"
"Professor, what is this? You're…honestly starting to make me a bit nervous." Ruby said as a strange feeling of dread settled over her. Ozpin looked down at the ground, and sighed.
"Look…Ruby…" the fact that he used her name instantly made that dread multiply massively. "There's no easy way to say this, but…" He paused.
"B-but…?" Ruby inquired, even though she didn't want to know.
"Your uncle…has passed away."
Suddenly, all the beautiful colors seemed dull. The sounds faded into a stiffening silence. Everything became cold as Ruby struggled to process what the man sitting next to her had just said.
"Wh…wh…what…?"
"Apparently, when he heard your sister had died he…went deeper down the unfortunate rabbit hole of alcoholism…and he…died of alcohol poisoning just the other day." Ozpin said, but the words seemed muffled to Ruby. There was a throbbing pain in her head, and she felt her arms subconsciously wrapping around her body, holding herself tightly as she began to shiver violently.
"N-no…it…it…it can't…"
"Look, I know this is a lot, but-" the rest of his words faded as sobs began to wreck Ruby's body. Tears filled her eyes, messing up her vision and making the previously beautiful colors even worse, and streamed down her cheeks. Ozpin continued talking, but Ruby couldn't hear any of it. Silently, Ruby felt her body tip forward, and she fell off the bench onto the ground. Far away, Ozpin shot to his feet and knelt down beside her. She could do nothing but cry…and cry…and cry. Her wails filled the air as Ozpin tried to speak to her, but nothing was getting through. A small crowd of nearby students began to gather to see what was wrong. Eventually, Ozpin gave up and got one of the students to send for the nurse.
Ruby just kept crying.
"….."
"….."
Neither girl really knew what to say as they sat outside the infirmary of their team leader once more. She'd been so unresponsive that they'd had to force her onto a stretcher so they could bring her here. She'd continued crying until it seemed like she couldn't, and then she simply passed out, likely from shock.
"What…how do we…?" Blake tried to speak a full sentence, but was unable to. Weiss stayed silent, simply staring through the door window at Ruby, who looked strangely peaceful as she slept. Her cheeks were slightly stained from the tears. Weiss had to stifle her own tears at the sight of it.
"I…I don't know…" Weiss finally said, not really answering any question in particular, but also answering all of them.
"I…I don't know if she'll be able to recover from this, Weiss…" Blake said.
"She…she will. She's stronger than she seems. She…she will. She has to…" Weiss said, though she wished she was as confident as she sounded, which wasn't even that much to begin with.
"Excuse me."
The two jumped at the sudden appearance of Ozpin behind them. They both turned to face him, finding the man with downcast eyes and a sad expression in his eyes.
"Since she's received no actual injuries, she'll be moved back to her dorm, where just like before, she won't be required to attend classes for a while if she doesn't wish to." Ozpin said. He almost sounded like he was speaking rehearsed lines. "I…I really need you two."
"We know." Weiss said, and Blake nodded.
"I know you know, but…" Ozpin sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I…I don't know what to do."
"We don't either, Professor." Blake said, her gaze now also pointed towards the floor.
"But we're gonna try our best!" Weiss said, saying it with such enthusiasm that it surprised both Blake and Ozpin, and when they stared at her, she felt her face turn red. "I-I mean, what are friends for, right?"
"Right…friends…" Ozpin said, giving her a small smile. He sighed again. "Alright, I have no choice but to leave it to you two. You can help back to her room if you'd like."
"Yeah, we can do that." Blake said. Ozpin nodded, and walked away. The two girls looked at each other, then went inside the infirmary.
After discussing with the nurse, they were able to get Ruby to wake up. When she awoke, she was quiet, and didn't look anyone in the eyes. She simply stood up with Weiss and Blake's help, and allowed them to help her back to their rooms. The entire time, Weiss wanted to say something, but every time she tried, the words became stuck in her throat. But even so, even among the silence, the two helped her get back to their room.
The next few days were like when Yang died only worse. Ruby didn't speak a word, didn't go to class, didn't want to study, didn't want to see anyone. She just wanted to be alone. But of course, Blake and Weiss didn't let her.
They stayed with her almost constantly, partially for support and partially due to worry that she'd…do something.
That fear was warranted when Weiss went into the bathroom and when she came out, she found Ruby holding a knife to her wrist. Weiss immediately shot into action and knocked it out of her hand. Where had she even gotten that?! Her hands were shaking, showing her hesitation, before her entire body was left shaking. Then, she had tears running down her face, and grasped Weiss in a tight hug, which she happily reciprocated. The two, in their hug, slowly fell to the floor.
"I…I…I…I can't…I just…" Ruby said between sobs. Weiss rocked her and stroked her back as Ruby cried and cried and cried.
"I know…but I'm here…and I won't leave you." Weiss assured her. Ruby mumbled something Weiss couldn't hear. The two sat there like that for a long while, until Ruby, having seemingly calmed down a bit, spoke again.
"Weiss?"
"Yes?"
"Will you sleep with me tonight?"
The question immediately caused a blush to spread across Weiss's face from ear to ear. Her immediate thought was to say no but…as she felt Ruby trembling in her arms, she thought it over. In this state, Ruby wouldn't pull anything weird or off putting, so Weiss didn't really have anything to worry about. She was sure, or at least hoped, that Blake would understand, and not pay it much mind.
"Y-yes…I will…" Weiss finally said, her face burning. Ruby clutched her tighter.
"Thank you…"
After that, both were silent, as Ruby sat in Weiss's arms, occasionally sniffling, and crying.
Weiss had to take a deep breath. This…was just to comfort Ruby, there was no other ulterior motive, nothing. They were just two friends sleeping in the same bed together to make one of them feel better.
"Weiss?"
Ruby's voice shocked Weiss out of her thoughts. She was up in her bed waiting for Weiss to come on up. Weiss gulped and nodded, before making her way up.
"S-so…how should we…lay?" Weiss said, the words causing her to blush again. Ruby looked down, in thought. Weiss studied her. Something seemed…off. She'd seen her in her pajamas dozens of times…so why…did she look so cute right now?
"Can we lay…facing each other?" Ruby asked. Weiss nodded, not realizing how that would put them at first. The two got into bed, and pulled the covers over them. Weiss was thankful that Blake, who was laying in her own bed, hadn't said anything. It wasn't until the two laid on their sides facing each other that Weiss realized…how close they were.
Weiss's face burned hot as she laid with her face inches away from Ruby's. She could swear she felt Ruby's soft breathing. She tried to distract herself by studying Ruby's face. Her silver eyes almost seemed to glow in the dim light. When Ruby's eyes met Weiss, she immediately looked away, instead looking down at Ruby's lips. They looked so small and delicate…so soft…so…
Weiss mentally slapped herself, and closed her eyes. "T-try to sleep okay?" Weiss said.
"O-okay." Ruby said, and Weiss heard the blanket shift slightly. Weiss also tried to fall asleep, but…she couldn't. All she could focus on was Ruby's breathing, and how their bodies touched in a few places. It was even worse because of how Weiss could feel a lot more through her thin nightgown. She could feel Ruby's heat. Eventually, it was too much, and she opened her eyes, only leading to her having to suppress a gasp.
Ruby's face looked so peaceful, the most peaceful she'd seen it in a while. Her lips were slightly parted as she softly breathed. Weiss felt her throat go dry as she stared at Ruby's lips. Before she knew it, Weiss felt herself moving closer, closing the distance between their faces. The distance slowly grew shorter and shorter, and Weiss felt her lips pucker, until…
"Weiss?"
Ruby had opened her eyes, not quite asleep, finding Weiss within an inch of her face. Weiss immediately jumped back, nearly falling out of bed.
"R-Ruby, sorry, I just…I…" Weiss struggled to come up with an excuse, while also keeping her voice down in case Blake was listening, but Ruby shook her head.
"It's fine…" she said, and gave Weiss a weak smile. That smile made Weiss's heart race wildly, and she had to swallow down the lump in her throat. "Let's just try to sleep." Weiss nodded, and Ruby closed her eyes once more.
Weiss mulled over her actions. She'd…she'd been about to kiss Ruby, hadn't she? Weiss couldn't believe herself. She'd never felt that way about Ruby before, but…now that they had spent so much time together…Weiss began to enjoy her company more and more.
Weiss shook her head, and shoved those thoughts down, closing her eyes. Despite her own worries, Weiss eventually managed to fall asleep as well, feeling comfort in Ruby's warmth.
Weiss awoke to screaming.
Her eyes shot open the moment she heard it, and she turned to find Ruby thrashing around and screaming.
"RUBY!" Weiss shouted. Blake quickly jumped out of bed and ran over.
"RUBY, WAKE UP!" Blake yelled. Weiss grabbed Ruby to hold her steady.
"RUBY!" She continued to yell, until finally, her eyes shot open, and tears quickly began to spill down her cheeks.
"W-Weiss?" She asked, and Weiss nodded. Bawling, Ruby leapt at Weiss, embracing her in a hug. Blake let out a sigh of relief.
"What happened?" Weiss asked.
"I…I saw…Yang…and Qrow…and that Grimm, and…I couldn't…" Ruby said between sobs. Weiss didn't ask any further, and instead just held Ruby, rocking her back and forth like how she'd done earlier. Blake made a gesture, and Weiss signaled that she could go back to bed. Weiss took a deep breath, and pulled Ruby away.
"It was just a nightmare, right?" Weiss asked, and after a moment, Ruby nodded. "Everything is alright now…I'm here." Ruby nodded again, and laid against Weiss. Weiss held her and stroked her hair, letting her sob into her shoulder.
"W-Weiss?" She eventually asked.
"Yeah?"
"Can you hold me?"
"I already am."
"No I mean…laying down?"
Weiss felt her blush return in full force. "Y-you mean like…s-spooning?" Ruby looked up at her and nodded. Weiss sighed. "Y-yeah…do you want to be little or big?"
"Little."
"Of course." Weiss said. "Are you ready to lay down?" She asked, and Ruby hesitated a moment before she nodded. She laid down, facing away from Weiss, and after a moment of trying to calm herself, Weiss also laid down, and gently wrapped her arms around Ruby. As she did, she felt her arm bump up against something soft, and Ruby gasped.
"S-sorry!" Weiss exclaimed, knowing exactly what she'd hit and trying not to let it happen again.
"I-It's okay…" Ruby said, and snuggled up against Weiss. Weiss closed the distance, and she became aware of how her chest was now pressed against Ruby's back, and how her hips were against Ruby's. She didn't seem to react though, thankfully. Weiss could also feel just how warm she was. Ruby breathed out deeply, seemingly comforted. Weiss felt her heart racing, sure that Ruby would be able to feel it with their bodies pressed together like this.
"Thank you, Weiss." Ruby said.
"You're…you're welcome, Ruby." Weiss answered. Once again she tried to ignore all the sensations she felt, and closed her eyes. Thankfully, before long, she fell asleep once more, snuggled up against Ruby and her warmth.
A few more days passed, and Ruby had managed to get back into studying and attending classes, thanks to Weiss's careful pushing. Weiss even tried to tell a joke and, even though it should've been bad, Ruby laughed. That sound made Weiss's heart feel like it had shattered, in a good way. Her cheeks warmed and she had to look away, much to Ruby's confusion.
The two were currently studying together, with Weiss once again helping Ruby catch up on the week she missed.
"So the method of attack in this situation is…"
"Right, right, and then if that happens, you should…"
"And then to land the final blow…"
"Mhm!"
The two laid back in their chairs as they finished up the problem. They'd been at it for a while, and were both starting to get tired. "Maybe we should take a break." Weiss suggested, and Ruby nodded. Weiss got up, and started stretching a bit to get her stiff legs going. She could feel Ruby watching her as she did.
"Weiss?"
"Yeah?" Weiss answered as she sat back down.
"I just…um…" Ruby blushed, and looked down at the floor as she twiddled her thumbs. "I just wanted to say…thank you…for putting up with me…"
"Oh come on, you don't need to phrase it like that." Weiss said. "I…very much enjoyed spending time with you. I feel like we've really grown as…friends…" Weiss felt herself pause on the last word.
"Friends…" Ruby echoed. The two went silent. Weiss sighed and grabbed Ruby's hands, causing the girl to look up at her.
"Ruby, I was by your side because I wanted to be there, not because I had to. I didn't have to 'put up' with you, because I enjoyed every moment I spent with you, okay?" Weiss said. Ruby's eyes sparkled, and she began to tear up a bit.
"Weiss, I-" Ruby started, but before she could finish, Weiss leaned forward and kissed her. Ruby went wide-eyed as she felt Weiss's soft, warm lips on hers, and for just a moment, she kissed back, almost closing her eyes in bliss. But…then things came rushing into her brain, and she pulled away from Weiss and stood up. Weiss looked up at her with a mixture of shock, disappointment, and concern.
"Weiss…I…Yang…Qrow…I can't…you can't be close to me or else…or else…" she stuttered, backing away.
"Ruby, it's not gonna-"
"No!" Ruby yelled. "I…I need to think…" Before Weiss could say anything else, Ruby ran. She ran down the hallways, out of the school, towards the nearby town, crying all the while. She barely registered anything except her own thoughts as she ran. She couldn't do it. She just couldn't. She couldn't lose Weiss, too…
Eventually, she stopped next to an alley, out of breath from the sudden sprint her body hadn't been prepared for. She wasn't sure why, but in a daze, she walked into the alley, her legs shaking. She walked past discarded newspapers, containers, dumpsters, as the light behind her slowly faded. Then, she stopped, leaned against the wall, and shouted.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" She yelled. Somehow, it helped, and she felt her thoughts clearing up.
She…she loved Weiss. She did, she really did.
All that time they'd spent, all that time crying on her shoulder, snuggling with her at night, hearing her tell stupid jokes to try to make her feel better…it had all built to Ruby falling for the girl. But…she was scared of losing her too, just like Yang and Qrow. If that happened…well…she'd rather be dead.
But she couldn't just leave her like that. She knew Weiss, and…she loved her. And Weiss clearly loved her back. Maybe…maybe she could try…maybe it could work.
Ruby took a deep breath, and sighed. She looked up at the quickly darkening sky. She needed to leave now, or she might get questioned about being out so late, especially with Crescent Rose at her hip, which she'd completely forgotten was still on her. It was…sort of a comfort thing, just having it with her. But for now, she needed to head back.
But, as she started walking back towards the street, two shadows emerged in front of it.
"Well well, what do we have here?" One of them asked as the two approached. As they got closer, Ruby wasn't able to make out much of their faces, with the streetlight being behind them. But she could tell they were trouble right away. She reached for Crescent Rose, but one of them was surprisingly fast, and knocked it out of her hand, grabbing her by the throat and pinning her against the wall.
"No, we don't want any of that." He said, and Ruby watched as the other guy kicked the weapon away even further. Ruby tried to punch the guy holding her, but the second guy caught her fist, and pinned both of her arms above her head. She tried to struggle and kick her feet, to no avail.
"You're a cute one, aren't you?" The first guy said, and rubbed his hand against her cheek. She recoiled, but he didn't stop there. Without warning, he reached down and placed his hand on her breast.
"DON'T!" She yelled, but the other guy used his free hand to cover her mouth.
"No no…let her yell…I want to hear it, as well as her moans~" the first guy said, and the second guy let go.
"You…bastard…" she said, which he answered with a squeeze.
"How old are you?" He asked.
"I'm 16!" She yelled, hoping her youth would maybe dissuade him. Unfortunately, it seemed to have the opposite effect. He grinned.
"16, with this beautiful bust? God damn~" he said, and gripped her top. The next moment, her top was torn off and thrown aside, exposing the black bra underneath.
"N-NOOOO!" Ruby yelled, but the guy just laughed. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a switchblade, which he quickly opened up. He moved it up against Ruby's skin, rubbing the flat end of the blade against it. It was cold, making Ruby jump. "What are you gonna do?" She asked, but the man didn't answer. He brought the knife up between the cups of her bra. "N-no! D-don't, please!" But her pleas were useless, and with a single swift motion, he cut the bra in half. The cups hung down loosely as he put the knife away. He grabbed the bra, and pulled it off of her body, snapping the back strap as he did so. Ruby wanted to cry as she felt her breasts become completely exposed to the chilly evening air, making them hard.
"God damn, girl. Those are some beautiful tits~" he said, and grabbed one. Ruby moaned, much to her annoyance, as he squeezed it. "So soft and supple. And your nipples are hard, I see~" he said.
"Th-that's just because it's cold!" She said, but moaned again as he ran his thumb over her nipple. He flicked it, and Ruby's knees shook. "S-stop!" The man did finally let go of her neck, but things only got worse as he leaned down and placed his mouth over one of her nipples. "Ahhhhh-!" She exclaimed. He sucked at her nipple, biting it gently, before pulling away, then letting it go and watching it bounce back into place. As he licked and sucked at her breast, his hand began to lower down, moving underneath her skirt, where it found her crotch. He rubbed a finger against a slightly wet spot on her panties, and Ruby shivered and moaned.
"Whyyyy?!" She screamed, causing both men to laugh. Finally, they both let her go, and she fell to the ground, not expecting her freedom so quickly.
"I don't think I can hold back anymore~" the first man said as he quickly yanked down both his pants and boxers in one swift motion. Ruby looked up and gasped as she was face to face with his penis. The full erection was something she'd never seen outside of textbooks, and looking at it made her feel small, and scared. Then, the man grabbed Ruby's head, and before she could react, he shoved his dick into her mouth. She gagged as it filled her up and hit the back of her throat. It was warm and muggy, and smelled terrible. His pubic hair tickled her face, and she felt tears coming down.
"Me too~" the other man behind her said, and to her horror, she heard the tearing of her clothes, and felt more and more of her flesh being exposed. She tried to speak, but couldn't. She could barely even breathe, and when she did, she just smelled that awful smell. Eventually, she was left in only her panties, socks, and shoes. But, even that wasn't enough for them, as he also removed her socks and shoes, leaving her almost bare except for her panties. She closed her eyes, crying softly as the second man grabbed her panties, and pulled them off, easily tearing the fabric as he flung them aside. She was now completely, utterly naked, not a single stitch of clothing on her.
"Damn she's got a mighty fine ass as well!" The second man said. Ruby felt a sudden stinging pain on her ass as the man smacked it, causing it to jiggle a bit. He reached out and squeezed her ass, making her moan, which in turn made the first man moan. He grabbed her head, and started to thrust his hips, moving his dick in and out of her mouth. It rammed against her throat over and over, making her gag several times. Meanwhile behind her, she heard the rustling of clothes, and then felt something press against her pussy.
"Mmmm! Mhmmmmhhmmmmm!!" She yelled, trying to resist what was coming, but she felt hands on her hips holding her in place. She couldn't do anything. And so, the second man thrust his dick inside her pussy, ripping her virginity away from her, and causing Ruby to scream in pain. It was unlike anything she'd ever experienced before, and was only made worse as the first man continued to thrust into her, groaning as he did so. Then, the one behind her did the same, shoving his dick in and out of her pussy. The movements made her body shake, her breasts bouncing around. Her thoughts faded away, replaced by a mixture of pain and pleasure, as she spiraled deeper and deeper into nothingness.
"Fuck…fuck…FUCK!" The first man said as he thrust a few more times, until he eventually came, shooting his semen down the girl's throat, forcing her to swallow it. She'd stopped reacting by this point, so she gave no resistance as he emptied himself inside her. Once he was done, he pulled out, and looked over at his friend, who was also about to climax. The man looked down at the girl's face, and her eyes, which seemed to have dulled. He heard his friend finish, and shoot his own seed into the young girl's likely virgin pussy. He watched as it dripped out and onto the ground. Once his friend was done, he pulled out, and the two stepped back, watching as the girl collapsed onto the ground, semen dripping out of both her mouth and pussy.
"We should do this again sometime~" the man said as he pulled up his pants. The girl still didn't respond. The man frowned. How disappointing. He turned and started to walk away, with his friend following soon behind.
"She was so tight, and hot, fuck!" His friend said as the two walked towards the street. "Man, I think I could die happy having fucked such a cute little thing like her~"
"I told you you'd enjoy it~" the man said.
"Yeah, something about them struggling like that is just so fucking hot! God I can't wait to-"
BANG
An extremely loud noise startled the man, making him feel like he jumped out of his skin.
"What the fuck was that? Did you-" he started, turning to his friend. He stopped when he saw the bullet hole that now existed in his head. His face was frozen in shock, and his face twitched for a moment before he fell forward, slamming hard onto the street. The man took a step back, feeling shivers down his entire body. He looked back down the alley, and was shocked by what he saw.
The naked girl, holding a giant scythe with one end pointed at where his friend had been standing, staring at him, still looking as dead inside as before. She lifted the blade up, and continued staring.
"I-"
He was only able to get out a single word before the girl blazed forward at blinding speed, and swung her blade. His head disconnected from his body as she tore through flesh and muscle and bone. It tumbled to the ground, the blood from his neck spurting onto everything, including the girl's bare back. The rest of the man's body quickly fell over, causing the blood to pool on the street. The naked girl didn't look back, and simply started walking.
"I think it came from over here." The police officer said to his partner as the two approached the street they'd heard what sounded like a gunshot from. They both paused as a shadow approached them.
"Hello?" The partner asked, placing a hand on her gun in preparation. The two waited as the shadow approached, until it emerged under a streetlight. The two were shocked to find that it was a naked young girl, with specks of blood on her, wielding a giant scythe. "Are…are you a huntress?" The partner said, still managing to find words, unlike the first officer. The girl didn't answer, and instead crouched down slightly. "Ma'am, are you oka-" Before their eyes, the girl seemingly vanished, only to reappear as her blade sliced through the partner's midsection, cutting her in half. The officer watched in horror as his partner's body fell to the ground in two pieces, her blood staining the girl further, coating her chest in crimson.
"I…I…y-you…!" The officer tried to speak, but she didn't give him time to. She swung the blade upwards, and cut him in half from the groin to the head. He fell to the ground as his organs spilled out, along with spurts of blood that only further tainted the girl's pale skin. Even now, her face was still blank and expressionless, her eyes dull and empty.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!!" Somebody screamed. The girl turned to the source: a girl who was walking with her friend. Without hesitation, the girl lunged at her, swinging her blade wildly through the air.
"Table for two." Alec said as he directed the couple to follow the waitress to their table. It was a busy night tonight, and he was happy to finally have a break in the long stream of customers. But, just as he was ready to take a breath, the bell above the door rang, signaling another person. He sighed and put on a smile as he turned to the door. "How can I help-" He stopped, his smile falling as he saw who had entered.
A naked girl, her body covered in what looked like blood, holding a giant red scythe that also appeared to have its blade covered in crimson. Alec felt a shiver run down his spine. The girl slowly walked towards him, and, despite what was happening, despite how terrified he was…he couldn't help but look at her chest.
The girl swung her blade, but Alec was able to react fast enough to duck, causing the blade to cut through the wooden support beams behind him. The nearest people to the front of the restaurant jumped in their seats as they turned towards the sound of the commotion. Once they saw the naked girl, some of them stood up, unsure what was happening. Alec didn't want around, and quickly fled into the back.
Ruby moved deeper into the restaurant, her mind blank as she sliced at anyone and anything she could see. She was overcome with rage and frustration, anger at the unfair world and everything in it.
She cut through midsections, sliced off heads, cut off of the limbs of men, women, and children as she made her way through each room. People tried to flee, but as soon as they were close enough, they met her blade. Crimson blood stained Ruby's nude form, as well as the tables, chairs, walls, and floor. Screams echoed through the building as total chaos erupted.
Those screams slowly started to die down, though, as she reduced the number of people in the restaurant swiftly. A few did manage to make it out the door, but most were lying in pieces scattered across the rooms. Intestines, blood, other entrails coated the floor. Ruby advanced towards a man who had backed up into a corner.
The man…couldn't help but stare at the girl. Her beautiful breasts, her bare pussy, her soft looking skin. Even with her covered in blood, she looked gorgeous. And young, too, which only made her more attractive. After a moment, she stopped moving. He struggled to tear his eyes away from her body and looked up, to find her staring at him. Her eyes trailed down to his crotch, where there was an obvious bulge. The man laughed nervously, but to his surprise, she knelt down, and started undoing his pants. Was…was this really happening?!
Indeed, the girl finished unbuttoning his pants and pulled down both them and his boxers, causing his dick to pop out and nearly smack her in the face. She looked at it with a neutral expression, and gently grabbed onto it. Her small hand felt soft, and small. The man shuddered and grinned.
Then, he felt excruciating pain as she sliced through muscle and skin, separating his precious organ from his body. He screamed as he fell to the ground, clutching his groin as blood erupted from the open wound. His screaming was quickly silenced as the girl shoved his own dick down his throat, immediately making him gag and choke. She shoved it down as far as she could, then forcefully closed his mouth and covered his nose, cutting off any chance of breathing he had. He could taste the metallic tang of his own blood as well as the disgusting taste of his own cock. His vision started going black as she struggled to breathe, until…everything faded away.
Ruby didn't let go until the man had gone completely still. She let go, looking down at his tear-stained face, and bloody mouth. Without a word or change in expression, she turned around and looked around the now empty restaurant. The air was still and filled with the smell of blood. It was quiet.
Ruby walked over the corpses strewn about, her footsteps splashing in the puddles of blood as she walked into the kitchen. She looked around the room as she walked. Everyone had fled, it seemed.
Then she saw the freezer. She walked up to it and opened the door. As soon as she did, she saw the boy from the front cowering in the corner.
"No, please! I-I didn't do anything!" Alec pleaded as the girl walked towards him. She was absolutely coated in blood now, more blood visible than skin. Her expression was blank, devoid of anything at all. She lifted the weapon. "NO! PLEASE!" And she swung. Alec screamed, causing the blade to catch his jaw, and pull at it, ripping the entire lower half of his face clean off. The pain was unlike anything Alec could've ever imagined in his wildest nightmares. But the girl wasn't finished. She swung the blade around, splattering his blood against the frozen food, and brought the blunt end up into his stomach. Alec was already feeling nauseous, so that was enough to cause him to vomit. What erupted from his mouth wasn't just his food though, but also bile, blood, and even a few of his teeth. It also didn't quite look so much like vomiting as it did it just erupting from the hole in his face, which then dripped down onto his body. Thankfully for the poor boy, he quickly succumbed to death, and slumped over.
Ruby didn't stop to stare at the boy. She simply turned and left his body there, walking back to the front doors, and stepping outside. There, she paused.
Glynda, Blake, Weiss, and several other students were standing waiting for her.
"Ruby!" Weiss yelled. Ruby felt something inside her. A gnawing pain in her chest, but she shook her head, and without speaking, she attacked, rushing towards her with blinding speed, swinging her blade. Blake intercepted her and deflected the attack, leaving Weiss stunned.
"She's too far gone, Weiss!" Blake said.
"N-no…we can…" Weiss tried to speak, but Ruby took another swing at her. Her face was one of rage and confusion and sadness. Weiss dodged out of the way at the last minute, and Ruby's blade dug into the ground. Weiss hoped that would stop her for a moment, but Ruby heaved the blade out and swung again. Blake once again stopped her. Ruby finally stopped and stared at Weiss and Blake.
"She's…she's gone, Weiss." Blake said. Weiss felt tears streaming down her face as she stared at Ruby's naked, bloody form, illuminated by the moonlight. It was almost…beautiful.
"Ruby…" she said. Ruby screamed and lunged at her, and Weiss dodged, but Ruby was instead lunging for Glynda. All three huntresses were surprised enough that Glynda was only barely able to dodge, as Ruby's blade tore into her arm, severing tendons and bone, cutting it off her body, and watching as it flopped onto the ground. Blake immediately ran to Glynda's side as she collapsed, and Ruby swung at Glynda's head, which Weiss intercepted this time.
"Ruby…please just stop." Weiss pleaded. Ruby pushed hard against her, her eyes wild with rage. "Please…Ruby…" For a moment, it looked like her words reached her, as Ruby paused. She even lowered her blade. But only for a moment. She looked up ar Weiss, lifted her blade up and swung down-
But she stopped as Weiss thrusted her blade into Ruby's chest.
Ruby gasped, and coughed, her body shaking. Her eyes went wide with surprise as she looked down at the hilt of Weiss's blade against her. She dropped her blade, hearing it clatter against the ground as she fell to her knees. She looked up to see Weiss sobbing. Weiss fell to her own knees and caught Ruby as she fell forwards, adjusting her so she was laying against Weiss.
"W-Weiss…" she said.
"Yes, Ruby, I'm here, I'm here…" she said. It was difficult for her to speak through her sobs. Ruby's chest heaved as blood trickled from the wound. Ruby's eyes fluttered.
"I…I…" she tried to speak, but words escaped her, and she was unable to finish before her body stilled, and she went silent. Whatever light remained in her eyes faded away. Weiss waited, and waited, but when nothing came, she shuddered, and screamed out into the darkness. She screamed and cried, cradling Ruby's dead body as her howls echoed away into the night.
In death, Ruby's face finally looked at peace.
