Silence. Oh, how he loved silence. Yet as much as he enjoyed a silent moment, he loved the sound of rain and thunder even more. It was an uncommon day indeed. For starters Harry had the entire house to himself today. Vernon was off at work like normal. Petunia and Dudley had left this morning to god knows where. To top it all off a rather large and heavy thunderstorm rolled in which was likely to keep everyone else out of the house till it died down. Its days like these that were his favorite in this veritable hellhole. It was also a perfect time to meditate and get some practice in with Kurai. Kurai Inazuma was the name Harry had given the nine-tailed fox that had appeared after that accident when he was five.
-FLASHBACK-
His lungs felt like they were about to burst. His legs feel like they're made of pure fire. All he could hear is the sound of his feet hitting the ground and the sound of rain pouring down like as if the sky is weeping. He saw a quick flash of lightning followed by the boom of thunder shortly after. Harry quickly turned the corner to keep up his lead, almost tripping due to the rain. He spotted a low hanging tree branch that looked like he could grab it if he jumped off the bus bench on the corner. As he debated his likely success he heard barking behind him thus sealing his fate. Without another thought Harry took off for the bench, hopping up with care as to not slip. He leapt out for the branch. The barking dog finally caught up with him intent on mauling him down to the bone. Marge's dog ripper was an absolute menace. Right as Harry got ahold of the branch lightning struck the ground several yards away which almost made him lose grip. It was sheer determination that allowed Harry to pull himself up and scale up the few branches on the relatively small tree. Naturally the strike had scared the dog off but Harry readied himself to stay in the tree awhile just in case ripper came back. He finally caught his breath as he settled on a fairly large branch.
All of the sudden Harry noticed all his hair standing on end. The next thing he knew was pain so vast, so all-consuming, so bright and blinding. Everything turned white, then black. Harry came to, to find himself atop a mountain. A thunderstorm consumed the entire sky as it vented its wrath upon the earth. Lightning constantly striking lighting the sky up with several different colored bolts. He saw blues, purples, red, white and black. Eventually Harry took notice of another presence. It was a creature about the size of a rather large wolf. It was easily almost 5 ft tall at the shoulder, roughly 7 ft from nose to tail. Its fur was whiter than any snow he had ever seen. It had odd markings along its body. It had rings on its forehead, shoulders and hips. It also had a singular band around each paw and at the end of each tail. Each marking was darker than the blackest of nights. Obviously, the next thing to draw his attention was the multiple tails. He counted nine, nine separate tails all with a black band on the end. There was also small bolts of pitch black colored lightning chaining between the tails, some dark static charge. After Harry got over the extra tails he acknowledged the long hooked claws that looked sharp enough to tear gouges into a full grown oak tree. His eyes continued to wander fully taking in this beast in front of him. Eventually he made eye contact and found himself staring into the deepest pits of the darkest abyss. If he looked close enough he could see small bolts of pure white lightning dancing across its eyes. Without warning is lunged at him knocking him to the ground. As it stood above Harry it seemed keen on sniffing him all over. It then backed off letting him sit up, when he looked up at it, it bowed its head in acceptance. That's when the pain lashed out against his body.
Three large bolts of lightning lanced out toward Harry, all striking him in the chest. One red, one blue, one purple. As the bolts pierced his chest, he was consumed by pain worse than earlier by a hundred fold. His muscles tightening, locking in place. His blood boiling in its veins, hair standing on end but surprisingly not burning. He would later learn that it was a miracle he survived. The other things besides Harry not dying was that the lightning seemed to be feeding into him which only prolonged the pain. All the while the wolf-like creature just watched silently waiting for something. Suddenly the lightning surged and double in size and strength. The wolf then lunged again, its claws digging into his shoulders dragging down his chest leaving two sets of three gashes forming a V of sorts. It then reared it front paws up and slammed them back down its claws once again piercing his flesh. It roared in his face making his ears ring. Then it opened it maw in front of him as if showing off all it razor sharp teeth. A ball of black and white lightning started to form in its mouth. After a second of "charging" two large arcs surged forward impacting Harry in the chest. This surprised him in the fact that these didn't hurt. Then as soon as it happened all five bolts suffered a power surge and died out. No longer held in place by strange lightning the pain caught up quickly and he collapse everything going black once more.
He came to on the sidewalk, rain still falling. His body felt super stiff as Harry took notice of a sharp pain in his wrist. Harry assumed he injured it when he fell from the tree. Slowly Harry stood up and began to shuffle his way back to Privet drive. By the time Harry reached the front door he was absolutely soaked to the bone. He immediately headed upstairs to take a hot shower. When Harry got out, he noticed several huge changes to himself. The first being his "lightning bolt scar" had now transformed to be more reminiscent of actual lightning. Also, it's bigger running upward into his hairline as well as down the side of his face to his cheekbone. Another thing Harry noticed was that the hair in the path of his scar has turned white, pure white just like that wolf's fur. The last thing Harry noticed was his left eye had changed color. Before it was a raging inferno of emerald flame, now it consisted of a calm swirling mixture of cobalt blue and royal purple. Part of his brain assumed that he was imagining said changes and promptly took control and he went to bed for the night giving it no further thought. Harry awoke the next morning to all the changes still being there and silently accepted his fate at the hands of the Dursleys for another freakish thing happening.
-END FLASHBACK-
It was in the following days a smaller version of that wolf would show up and give Harry books to read on all sorts of things. With nothing better to do in his free time besides tend wounds from run ins with Dudley's gang or from the odd beating when Vernon got too drunk Harry simply read every book he was brought. Harry learned a lot in the following years, besides basic education stuff which he had finished up to high school by the time he was 10. Harry learned about all sorts of magical creatures all over the world. The first he had learned about was one Harry had done his own research on following the encounter with the wolf. The only thing he had found that checked all the boxes so to speak was a Japanese creature called a "Raiju" which translated to thunder beast. There were all sorts of stories of them looking like different animals ranging from foxes, weasels, cats, wolves, and monkeys. When the mini Raiju kept giving him books and essentially becoming a pet of sorts he decided to name it. Harry came up with the Japanese name Kurai Inazuma to keep with his origins, which translates to "dark lightning" referring to the black lightning that continued to arc between its tails.
It was roughly when he turned seven that harry started manifesting these lightning powers. Somehow despite not being able to talk in any way Kurai taught him how to wield the lightning. That was when Kurai started bringing Harry books related to magical creatures and shortly after books on magical spells from all over the world. Some seemed quite ancient, a few spells were actually so old they were documented on scrolls of papyrus. When he turned eight Kurai bit off one of his tails and laid it in front of Harry. Before his eyes the severed tail transformed into a 10 inch rod of pure obsidian so dark it seemed to consume all the surround light. The obsidian rod held a single bead of pure white chalcedony at the bottle of the handle. When it finished the transformation Kurai prodded his hand to pick it up. When he did the white stone glowed briefly the died down, when the glow settled small arcs of white lightning ran down the obsidian shaft. Harry then realized it was a wand. Kurai had made a wand from one of his tails for him to use and practice with. The only reason this lasted was because it seemed nobody took notice of Kurai, like he didn't even exist. People apparently couldn't see the wand either seeing as it was technically made from one of Kurai's tails.
Time continued to pass this way for the next several years. Kurai bringing him books on all sorts of things some magic some not. He also tended to throw a few enjoyable fiction works in there such as "Firestarter" by Stephen King. Even as Harry continued reading, he found time to practice the spells he had read about in all the books. Those books were his only escape. Dudley and his gang were by far the worst, using anything their simple minds could think of as an excuse to give him a beat down. They had given him his fair share of scars. Vernon would probably be next. He mostly dishes out slaps, backhands and the odd punch or two when he felt like Harry was deserving or disrespectful or some other such nonsense. There are the rarer occasions when a deal goes badly for him at work and he'll come home get drunk and give him a particularly bad beating but that's pretty rare. Petunia mostly stays to the mental warfare. Getting in her digs about him being useless, lazy, troublesome, freeloader who should've died with his parents. She also dished out an odd slap or two but couldn't bother to sully herself with physical violence. Eventually Harry got a letter inviting him to go to a school called Hogwarts. At first he was just going to blow it off because what could they possibly teach him that Kurai couldn't find a book on. But as Harry thought about it he figured you can't exactly teach experience in a book so Harry would attend with the exception that Kurai didn't stop his normal routines of bringing him things.
That was years ago though, now just barely a week past his 14th birthday Harry was prepping to go to the quidditch world cup with a few of his friends. He honestly never thought he'd have friends; in school he was always an outcast. Mostly it was thanks to Dudley and his gang threatening people. But there were plenty of others who thought he was weird and dark and gloomy because he rarely talked, barely showed emotions, was next to always reading something and loved when it rained. Suffice to say it was lonely, but he always had Kurai. When Harry started Hogwarts, it was much of the same. Some schmuck named Malfoy hated him for some perceived slight against him and proclaimed himself Harry's rival. Others followed the same avoidance because he still rarely talked, barely showed emotion, was almost always reading something and he still absolutely loved it when it rained.
There were a few outliers though who would not be swayed by public opinion and herd mentality. First there was one Hermione Granger of Gryffindor, she was mostly just an acquaintance that he would run across occasionally in the library. She would come ask him questions about certain topics because as a "fellow intellectual" he simply understood her better than anyone else. Harry had no clue what she means when she says that but she's not too loud or obnoxious, so he tolerated her questions and presence. Second would be one Daphne Greengrass of Slytherin, she was definitely what Harry would consider a good friend simply because while they had their differences at their core, they were a lot alike. They loved reading, both preferred silence and didn't feel the need to speak much. Whilst Harry liked rain and thunder Daphne was partial to snow and ice. Despite being in different houses they still hang out whenever possible whether that's down by the lake, in the library, or the great hall. The next two were basically sisters of sorts. Susan Bones and Nymphdora Tonks were for all intents and purposes inseparable. Susan would always tease Nymphdora about being her friend only because her aunt was the Head of the D.M.L.E and Nymphdora wanted to be an auror. Harry had ran into both girls on his first train ride to Hogwarts. At first they treated him like he was some sort of riddle or enigma that they couldn't solve. As classes started any they shared they would try and sit near him or get paired up with him in hopes of finding out information that would allow them to solve the question they perceived Harry's existence to be. Eventually their drive died off and they just settled for the slow route of learning by being around him. Plus, they're always going on about how he gave them the best answers and reactions to things. The very last two are a pair of rather infamous twins, Fred and George Weasley, pranksters extraordinaire, beings who relish in chaos and mischief everywhere. They also idolize this group of mysterious people called the marauders who were apparently pranksters as well. Harry had first met them by accident when he had stumbled into them setting up a prank. At first, they wanted to buy his silence but after a few seconds of Harry's blank stare they realized he obviously wasn't going to say anything. As Harry walked away he noticed a flaw into their prank, he thought about pointing it out to them but decided that he would play a little prank of his own. Their plan was pretty simple, they had set up a simple "tagging" ward at the entrance of the great hall. When someone passed through the ward they were then "tagged". This worked in conjunction with the potion the asked the house elves to add to everyone's food. The potion would activate once provided with the tag. The effect would be different depending on the type of tag somebody received. One tag would change the color of your clothes, another would have you make random animal noises when you tried speaking. Harry simply altered their ward to not only miss tagging himself but guaranteed it would tag them. They confronted him after the prank because they figured he was the only one with knowledge beforehand therefore it was his fault. They weren't wrong but it still made his lips twitch in amusement as he pointed out their flaw. Simply put they were awestruck; they would then come to him to double check their pranks. Harry didn't mind as long as it was nothing too hurtful or embarrassing and that he was left out of it.
The twins had invited him to the world cup, but he told them he was already going with some other friends. They were fine after a bit of teasing considering Harry was going with three girls. Three very attractive girls, so at least everyone kept saying. It's not that he didn't think they were attractive he just never paid it much thought, though recently that had begun to change. Either way Harry was excited to go, maybe not so much for quidditch than just the flying itself. He loved flying especially during a storm. One time the girls had caught him flying during a thunderstorm weaving between the lightning bolts. Apparently, he had scared them half to death was therefore prohibited from flying amongst lightning again. Harry didn't see a problem, but they looked and sounded worried enough even the usually aloof Daphne had tears in the corners of her eyes after a few bolts struck particularly close. Two days was all he had to wait till he would see them all at the world cup. Despite still not being talkative and being considered dark and gloomy Harry enjoyed all of their company. He was glad to call them friends.
AN: For those wondering more in depth what Kurai looks like I got inspiration from pokemon actually, I basically took the Ninetales pokemon and gave it Umbreon markings and made it black and white. This is also going to be my first proper multi chaptered story. I have no clue how big its gonna be but I know it'll end at the end of fourth year. Hope it's enjoyable or not.
