Nice to see that people are enjoying the story so far! Here are some things I forgot to mention earlier:
Endeavor is the Number 1 Hero and Hawks is Number 2. In this story, All Might has retired earlier, but is still looking for his successor, who will obviously still be Deku.
In this story, Endeavor is not an abusive parent/husband like he is in the series. Instead, he's a very distant father who's a workaholic. His kids still don't like him though, all for different reasons.
Hawks still works for the Commission, but he doesn't work endlessly like he does in the series. He has days off and works about 8 hours maximum.
And with that out the way, enjoy the story!
Keigo and Endeavor finally leave the agency together, the former leading the winged hero to the black van parked out front. Endeavor opens the door to the backseat, stepping to the side while looking at Keigo. He motions for him to get inside.
"Get in."
The blonde man's face flushes a shade of red, now resisting the urge to smile cheekily. "So now you're opening doors for me, Endeavor? What's next, you're gonna pull chairs out for me when we go out to eat?". Endeavor only glares at him in response. "You're holding the kid, Hawks. Just get in before I change my mind."
Keigo folds his wings close to his body before climbing inside.
Once he was settled, he sets Tokoyami in between him while keeping a firm hold on him. Keigo spreads his wings further to the back of the van, now sighing in content. He always hated being inside of any vehicle because of them always getting in the way. It would make him feel claustrophobic and he would instantly need to fly to escape. It was one of the many reasons why he prefers to fly everywhere.
"Are you two comfortable back there?"
Endeavor was now sitting in the passenger side, but not facing behind him. Keigo nods, "Yep! We're all set, big guy." The van begins to drive off towards their destination. Keigo hums to himself while looking out the window, enjoying the scenery that passes by him. Tokoyami looks around himself curiously, now completely forgetting the meltdown he had earlier. He notices that Keigo was looking out the window and his eyes blinked.
What was he looking at?
The tiny bird pats Keigo's thigh trying to get his attention again. And viola, it works. The blonde human looks down at Tokoyami, face a little worried.
"What is it, Fumi? Are you okay?" he questioned.
Tokoyami ignores his question, this time crawling to Keigo's side next to the car door. He then tries to stand up to get a closer look, but to no avail. Realizing what he wants, Keigo lifts Tokoyami up to the window with a small smile. "Here you go little birdie, now you can see."
Tokoyami stares in awe at the passing vehicles and the tall buildings he saw before him. He presses his face against the window, now wriggling around in excitement.
"Aww. Is that your son, Hawks?"
Keigo's head turns and sees that the driver was looking at him through the rearview mirror. The winged man laughs at the question. "Haha, no sir. He's not my kid, but I do see why you would think that."
Endeavor rolls his eyes at the statement.
"Don't get ahead of yourself."
After about another ten more minutes of driving, the heroes finally arrive at the pediatrician building. Keigo looks over to the passenger side at Endeavor, eagerly poking his shoulder with one of his feathers, "Endeavor~. Can you open the door for me and Fumi please~?"
The flame hero slaps the feather away, now sighing as he quickly exited the van. He then opens the door to the backseat for the blonde man, where he hopped out the seat holding Tokoyami in one arm. The baby glances over at Endeavor, frowns, and turns back to his holder.
Keigo starts to follow Endeavor inside the building. "Go sit down and wait for us to be called. And try not to cause a scene."
So while Endeavor walks up to the counter to get checked in, Keigo takes a seat in front of a TV that was playing a silly kids cartoon. He looked around. There weren't many people at the office, except for one sleeping lady and her son, who was sitting down at the kids' area playing with blocks. The first thing he noticed was that the little kid has wild green hair, to which he thought was kind of cute. The kid looks up at Keigo and happily waves at him. The winged man smiles and waves back.
Tokoyami stares at the kid disapprovingly.
Endeavor heads over to Keigo and sits down next to him. The smaller man's eyes glances over to get a better look at Endeavor's attire. He wasn't in his hero outfit, but instead a black turtleneck sweater tucked inside his blue jeans, which was slightly covered by the brown coat he had on. Keigo giggled quietly.
He dresses like a dad.
"Mr. Todoroki?"
An older nurse opened the door to the waiting room, looking over at Endeavor. He stands up, turning around to make sure that Keigo was doing the same thing. "Yeah yeah, I'm right behind ya, big guy." Keigo remarks, walking beside the flame hero. The nurse leads them to an empty room and bows to both heroes out of respect. "Thank you for saving our lives, Number 1 and Number 2. The doctor will be in shortly."
Endeavor only grunts in response while Keigo smiles at her, "It's no trouble. Thank you, miss."
The door closes, leaving them alone in a brightly colored room full of stickers of random cartoon characters. Endeavor goes over to sit in one of the chairs closest to the door while Keigo sits on the small podium that has a long sheet of parchment paper. Endeavor raises an eyebrow at him, "Why are you sitting there?"
The bird man playfully kicks his feet in the air, "Because I can. And because I'm scared to put Fumi down."
Tokoyami looks around the room, eyes half lidded accompanied by a bored expression. He yawns.
Endeavor stares. "Eh? Why are you scared to let go of him?"
Keigo shrugs, "I got used to it, I think. Plus I think he likes me holding him."
"Must be a bird thing." Endeavor replies back. Keigo shrugs, "Hmm, maybe it is a bird thing. Or maybe it's because he likes me more, yeah?"
Endeavor rolls his eyes again, "I'm almost certain he does. Look at how he's clinging on to you."
Tokoyami was gripping onto Keigo's jacket tightly as if he was going to fall off him any second. The tiny bird stares lazily at his holder's wings.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Hello hello? I'm walking in the room now, haha."
A man of average height with curly brown hair and large glasses walks inside the room, holding a pen and clipboard. He immediately notices Tokoyami in Keigo's arms. "Oh well hello there little one!"
Tokoyami stares at the man with wide curious eyes, his grip on Keigo tightening even more.
The man fixes his glasses before introducing himself. "Good afternoon, Number 2. I'm Doctor Reiki. Endeavor here gave me a call earlier today, told me it was urgent."
Dr. Reiki sits down on a circular rolling chair, folding one leg across the other.
"How may I be of service?"
Keigo instantly feels comforted by the man's presence. "Alrighty doc, so I found this little guy-" He pats Tokoyami on his head. "-on my front porch when I got off work today. There was a note left by his mother, saying that she wants me to take care of him basically. I have it right here, heh."
The bird man fishes inside his pocket for the piece of paper and hands it over to Dr. Reiki, who quickly reads over it. He shakes his head, placing it on the counter behind him. "Well this is definitely something I've never heard of before." He adjusts his glasses again. Keigo nods, "Yeah, exactly. It was just so sudden, y'know? So I was wondering if you could basically give Fumi a little check up? I have to make sure he's okay before I decide what to do with him."
The doctor smiles reassuringly, "Of course! Do you mind if you place the little fella' down so I can get a better look at him?"
"Yeah sure."
Keigo finally sets little Tokoyami down by himself on the podium, where he then took a seat next to Endeavor. Tokoyami reaches out for Keigo, wanting to picked up by him again. The blonde man's heart broke. Seeing Fumi reach out for him almost made him feel like a terrible person.
Dr. Reiki waves at the little bird, a bright smile on his face. "Hi there Fumi! I'll be your doctor for today, is that okay with you?" The baby looks frantically back and forth between the doctor and Keigo. Before he could react negatively, Tokoyami relaxes at the man's presence. Reiki glances over at Keigo, "I have a Quirk called Comfort. It allows anyone who makes eye contact with me feel relaxed for about twenty minutes. It's really helpful for when I have to work with babies, haha."
Keigo shakes his head, mouthing a long silent 'Ohhh okay'.
After about fifteen minutes or so, Dr. Reiki writes something down on his clipboard and looks towards Keigo. "Good news! Young Fumi is perfectly healthy for a baby his age. After taking a quick look at him, he looks to be about 8 months or so. But I do have some concerns about his weight. See, he's a little smaller than most babies around his age and I'm worried that he may not be eating enough. It's not your fault, of course."
Keigo slowly nods.
"Now it could be genetics, so it might be nothing to worry about. Only time will tell. But other than that, Fumi is perfectly a-okay. He is definitely quiet though, most babies are mostly talkative by now. But I'm sure that's nothing to worry about, it could just be his personality." The doctor grins. Keigo sighs in relief. "Thanks doc. That's good to hear." He turns to look at Tokoyami, who was entranced by a plushie that the doctor had given for being well behaved.
"Now because of this situation, I would like to ask you, Hawks: Are you willing to place this child under your care? I may be a doctor, but I do care about the safety and well-being of all my patients. It's my job to ensure that."
The winged-hero freezes at the question.
Dr. Reiki waves a hand in front of him, "Of course, you don't have to make that decision right now. Apologies for making you think that. Here, this is my card. Please give me a call when you decide on your answer. I know this can't be easy for you, so take all the time you need." The doctor hands Keigo his buisness card and stands up, getting ready to leave.
"It was a pleasure meeting you both. And you too, little one."
Endeavor gives the doctor a small wave and so does Tokoyami, surprisingly. Once Dr. Reiki leaves the room, it was completely silent. Endeavor looks at Keigo, who was staring at the floor.
"Hawks?"
The blonde man snaps out of his thoughts and looks at Endeavor, who's face showed just a tiny hint of concern. He looks back down at his feet shyly. "I'm fine, big guy. It's just...this is a lot for me."
"He said you don't have to decide right now."
"I know. But I-...I'm not too sure. I'm pretty young, I'm only 23. So I never even thought about having kids. Hell, I still act like one."
"You do." Endeavor agreed, now feeling a headache coming on. Keigo laughs at his reaction. "I don't know. I'll think about it, I guess. It would be a pretty big change. And imagine once the media finds out. I wouldn't want to put Fumi through all that." Endeavor shakes his head.
"I can't give you advice about this sort of thing, Hawks. This is all up to you. Give it some time to think about. Parenthood is not easy." he sighs.
Keigo stands up, reaching over to pick up Tokoyami, who held on to his plushie with a loose grip. He smiles at the smaller bird. "I don't know why, but I feel like I have a connection with Fumi. So for now, I'll give parenting a trial run. Which means."
The smaller man flashes a smile at Endeavor, "Let's go shopping! Baby shopping, I mean."
Endeavor stands up to leave, having Keigo following behind him like an excited kid. "Wait we're leaving to go baby shopping? Aww Endeavor!"
The flame hero sighs at the blonde's excitement. "I'm exhausted, Hawks. You know you can shopping for that sort of stuff by yourself, right?"
Keigo pouts dramatically at him. "Yeah, but that would be BORING. I need someone to go with me because I don't know what babies need." Endeavor continues walking outside back to the van that they arrived in.
"You said you're working tomorrow morning, right? If you want to, you can drop Fumi off at my agency while you go off to work. I'll have Burnin' look after him while you're gone. I'm sure she wouldn't mind."
Keigo wings spreads out, now fully prepared to take off for flight. "Thanks Endeavor, you're the best. I'll be sure to make it up to you. Come on little birdie, say bye-bye to Uncle Endeavor."
Tokoyami turns his head to the larger man. He glares at him and resumes back to playing with his plushie. Keigo laughs. "It's okay big guy, I'm sure he'll start to like you eventually. See ya tomorrow Endeavor!"
The winged man takes off in the air, heading straight to his house once again.
The third chapter is now done! And it looks like Hawks will give parenting a try. Gonna get a feel for it, ya know? Poor Endeavor though, now he's gonna have to deal with two birds, one annoying and one who doesn't like him.
He'll be okay lol.
Next chapter, we'll see Hawks adjust to having a baby live with him and he'll go shopping with a surprise guest.
Stay tuned! :)
