If you want to follow my Tumblr blog for edits and more about my boy Kevin, it's called Guardiansofheroes.

Important Note: Kevin Quill's face claim is Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Summary: Kevin "Maverick" Quill is the younger brother of the legendary outlaw called Starlord. Well, that's how Peter would have introduced him. Kevin personally would have said that he was the younger brother of a certified dumb ass in the galaxy. Recently the two Ravager brothers went on a heist picking up an orb for a buyer, but little did they know that orb would bring them far more trouble than they ever dreamed of.

In all of Peter Quill's life, or at least the one he led now after being taken from his home on earth, he had never had a mission gone so wrong before.

His plans had always been solid, despite what others may think or say.

But now, Quill had a problem and was on his way back to the Eclector so Yondu could help him figure it out.

This problem was quite literally in his lap at the moment, a one-year-old little Terran boy who was squirming in his lap.

"I know little guy, but I don't exactly have a car seat handy here...or at all really," Quill said as he shifted the squirming fussy child in his arms.

Quill wasn't quite used to or equipped to handle a child, he could barely take care of himself.

"Hey, I know! How about some music bud?" Quill offered as he reached over and pressed play on Milano's radio to play his tape.

The 1974 hit song Come And Get Your Love by Redbone started to play.

Hail (Hail), what's the matter with your head, yeah

Hail (Hail), what's the matter with your mind

And your sign an-a, oh-oh-oh

The toddler stopped fussing in Quill's lap and instantly, looked amazed and curious about the voices and sounds coming from the radio.

Now instead of squirming to get out of Quill's lap, he was moving back and forth like he was dancing.

"Heh, you like that don't you little guy?" Quill asked him with a small grin as the boy let out a soft squeal of happiness in reply.

Then the boy started reaching up toward the ship's steering wheel in front of him.

Quill let out another soft chuckle, looking down at the kid with some fondness in his eyes.

No one would believe that this kid had just been through a traumatizing ordeal.

Or that Peter Quill was actually thinking about keeping the kid.

"So. you're going to be a dancer and a pilot huh? Guess me and you have a lot in common besides being the same species" Quill said with another chuckle.

The little boy looked up at Quill with a bright smile and replied with happy baby babble.

"Things about to become more interesting for the both of us" Quill replied with a grin and softly ruffled the little boy's dirty blonde hair.

15 Years Later…

"Come on man, Rock-paper-scissors me for it!" Kevin pleaded with a huff getting his hand ready in position.

Quill in turn let out a scoff and attempted to ignore his young brother and walk past him, but Kevin blocked his pathway with his body, eyes lit up in determination.

"Why do I have to rock-paper-scissor for my own walkman? No way" Quill replied.

"Come on! You know I wouldn't ask unless I had one! Besides you got to use it last time on a mission!" Kevin pouted, eyes still determined to get what he asked for.

"And that's my problem why?"Quill asked with a raised eyebrow, placing two hands on the smaller teen's shoulders to push him aside.

"Aw, does that mean that the mighty Star-Lord is really a chicken then? Kevin teased, knowing exactly how to push his older brother's buttons.

Kevin grinned once he saw the aggravated twitch in Quill's eyes and removed his hand from his shoulders.

Checkmate! Kevin thought to himself happily.

"Alright but only one round!"Quill ordered as Kevin rolled his eyes in return.

"Alright Grandpa I got it, put your hand in position already!" Kevin replied.

"Watch your mouth you little sh-" Quill started before he was cut off by Kevin.

"Go!" Kevin interrupted as both brothers threw down their hands in position.

Kevin's mouth dropped in disbelief seeing Quill's hand symbol was rock before glancing back at his own hand symbol, scissors.

He had lost.

"Damn it!" Kevin scowled.

"Oooo too bad! Star-Lord the Emperor strikes a win once again!" Quill taunted as he happily put his walkman headphones on.

"Oh shut up Peter!" Kevin huffed as he walked past Quill, kicking one of the creatures in front of him, going on ahead so he didn't have to witness the embarrassing sight of his brother dancing.

So, Kevin carried on ahead of Quill, focused on the prize.

The prize in question was an Orb, now what made this Orb special, Kevin didn't know but, what he did know was that this Orb had a very expensive buyer attached to it.

Kevin learned about this orb after listening in on Yondu's phone call, finding out that this planet Morag held it and that the Ravagers were hired to receive it for a third party…which included the amazing price.

So naturally, Kevin told his brother about this Orb, they were partners after all.

After Kevin had been rescued by Quill all those years ago and kept him safe from other enemies, including other Ravagers that wanted to eat him, the two boys had made a pact, they were brothers and they relied on no one else but each other.

Flashback

"Ah Pete!" four-year-old Kevin squealed in fear rushing over to his big brother who scooped him up in his arms.

"Hey, hey, chill out little dude…what happened?" Quill asked, brushing the bangs out of Kevin's eyes, he made a mental not-on to cut them later in the privacy of their room.

"Hz gonna eat me!" the three-year-old said with tears in his eyes.

Now it was quite hard for Quill to decipher words from Kevin sometimes because the little boy couldn't pronounce the names right.

The little dude could barely even pronounce his name…he was just called Pete at the moment.

While Yondu was called Doo.

Might have been Peter's own personal touch for that but it was so worth it seeing Yondu's face every time.

"Horuz?" Quill guessed and the little boy nodded with a sniffle.

"I'm not gonna let them eat you Kev, I pinky promised remember?" Quill replied wiping the boy's mucusy nose with one of the other Ravagers' clothes, whose he didn't know whose but that's what they got for making Kevin upset like this.

"Won't throw me out either?"Kevin asked with a sniffle again.

"Nope! I promise it's just me and you against the universe bud, let's go back to our room okay? I'll tell you the story of Kevin Bacon again?"

"Yay! I wuv Bacon!" Kevin squealed, his fears and sniffles instantly going away after hearing his big brother was gonna tell his favorite story again.

Flashback End

"Here we go!" Kevin exclaimed with a grin, looking up at the tall door that was sealed tight.

Kevin looked behind him to see if Quill had caught up yet since he honestly was the best at picking these things.

"Oh god why?" Kevin groaned out in embarrassment watching his brother dance, twirl, and splash in the puddle while listening to his walkman.

"This is why no one takes us seriously…" Kevin grumbled as he turned his attention back to the door, his hands going through his bag, and took out a screwdriver-looking object and started to pick the lock.

After fumbling with it for a few moments the lock finally clicked and the door opened.

"Ha! I did it! I finally did it! Peter did you-" Kevin stopped mid-sentence and was just staring at his brother using one of the creatures he kicked earlier as a microphone to sing along to the song playing on the tape.

"And this is the time I'm always glad to say we share no blood relation" Kevin stated with a heavy sigh as he turned around and walked inside the entrance without his brother.

"Looks easy enough!" Kevin said happily with a grin once he spotted the Orb guarded in an energy shield.

He dug into his satchel bag and got out a gravity mine and threw it onto the floor, which activated it and attracted the artifact right from its pedestal.

Kevin then reached down to grab the orb when he suddenly felt a strong hand on his shoulder. Kevin let out a sudden squeal of fear and turned around quickly, his hand at his waistband ready to grab his machete to attack.

All of this only to meet the sight of his brother's shit-eating grin and laugh.

"God- You- You asshole!" Kevin hissed in annoyance since his brother scared the absolute shit out of him by sneaking up on him like that. Seeing Kevin's annoyed glare only made Quill snicker more and slap his shoulder.

"Watch your language, you kiss anyone with that mouth? Let your big brother handle this" he teased and reached out to grab the orb before letting out a loud surprised grunt from Kevin suddenly elbowed him in the side.

"Screw you old man, I got here first while you were out there dancing like a Mangalore!" Kevin retorted with a smirk seeing Quill's mouth drop open and looking highly offended.

Then Quill reached out again attempting to take the orb, the two brothers tussled and bickered with each other while the orb was being used as a tug of war between them.

"Take that back! You ungrateful brat"

"No, back off you shitty old man!"

"Give it here and apologize!"

"HEY!" A sudden voice yell out, snapping the two brothers out of their bickering and noticed they were surrounded by Sakaaran troops and the voice had come from Korath the Pursuer…their guns pointed right at them.1

"...Okay you can have it…" Kevin murmured with wide eyes and let go of the orb, shoving it into Quill's arms.

"Really?" Quill asked Kevin, glancing over at him with an annoyed glare.

"What? I thought you would be happy? Another great win for the emperor Starlord?" Kevin retorted back with his own glare.

"You still on about that you-" Quill started but was quickly interrupted by Korath.

"Enough! Drop the orb right now or we will shoot!" he roared.

"Okay okay! Dropping it!" Quill yelped out when a gun was shoved into his back harshly, both hands flying up in surrender after dropping the orb onto the ground.

Korath quickly went and picked up the orb, holding it up for both of them to see "How did you know about this?!" he demanded.

"I don't even know what it is man! Do I look that smart to you?" Kevin piped in.

"Hey, we're just junkers. Man! We were just checking stuff out!" Quill added in panic.

Kevin turned his head giving his brother a look that could only be read as You're a moron.

Korath looked at Quill in disbelief, Kevin couldn't quite blame him either.

"You don't look like a junker. You're wearing Ravager garb!" Korath retorted back, stating the obvious.

"This is just an outfit, man!" Quill tried to play it off after being shoved with the barrel of the Sakaaran's gun in the back again.

"Ninja Turtle, you better stop poking me!" Quill snapped annoyed, looking back at the Sakaaran in question.

Kevin rolled his eyes with a heavy sigh shaking his head

This was turning into a huge mess like all their missions.

"What is your name!" Korath demanded, seemingly fed up with their shitshow, as he started coming towards him, staff in hand.

"Kevin Maverick Quill!" Kevin yelped out with wide eyes, raising his hands up more in alarm.

"My name is Peter Quill, okay? Dude, chill out." Quill replied frantically.

"Dude! Don't tell an angry guy who has Sakaaran's pointing guns at us!" Kevin scowled looking over at his brother with a glare.

"Shut up! I got this!" Quill hushed him quickly, giving him one of the 'I'm the older brother here, let me handle this' type of looks.

"Move!"Korath demanded as he started to turn around, the Sakaaran's starting to push on the brothers from the back.

"What?! Why?!" Kevin yelped out in alarm looking at the back of Korath's head to his brother.

Do something! Kevin mouthed to Quill.

Korath turned back around, his eerily calm expression on Kevin as he replied "Ronan may have questions for you."

Just the way the other spoke about it, it was almost like 'it's not me you should be scared of.'

But before Korath could turn around again Quill piped up suddenly.

"Hey, you know what?" he asked and both Kevin and Korath turned their attention to him.

"There's another name you might know us by" Quill replied with a smirk.

"Oh god, Peter please don't start" Kevin groaned, facepalming his own face out of embarrassment.

"Starlord and Top Gun" Quill finished with a proud grin.

"Who?" Korath asked, genuinely confused with the look of bewilderment on his face.

Quill sighed heavily in disappointment while Kevin was still hiding his face in embarrassment.

"Star-Lord man. Legendary Outlaw…Top Gun? His trusty sidekick? Tiny, but knows how to kick ass?"Quill asked.

Korath just stared at Quill like he was the stupidest man on this planet and just shrugged his arms, obviously not knowing what he was talking about.

"Guys?" Quill asked looking back at both Sakaarans, who seemed just as confused as Korath.

"Dude stop I told you it's stupid!" Kevin groaned, looking at his brother annoyed while Korath turned back around.

"What's stupid about it!?" Quill demanded, looking offended.

"Do you see a gun on me anywhere?! Why the hell am I Top Gun? I'm not even tiny either!" Kevin protested with a huff.

"You lost your gun privileges after shooting me in the ass!"Retorted Quill.

"I told you it was an accident!" protested Kevin.

"Move it now!" Korath demanded as he started to head to the entrance.

"Ah, forget this" Quill grumbled and kicked back the plasma sphere he had dropped onto the ground earlier with his little tussle with Kevin.

The plasma sphere hit the Sakaarans and vaporized them instantly.

Kevin looked back and grinned but noticed Korath raising his gun at them.

"Peter!" he yelled out in warning.

"On it!" Quill replied as he quickly got both of his quad-blasters out of the holster and shot at Korath.

"Yes!" Kevin cheered with a grin after seeing Korath get blasted and had happened to drop the orb that rolled over to him.

"I'll take that-" Quill started to bend down to grab the orb near Kevin but his hand was smacked away and was picked up by Kevin himself.

"Nope! You got the Walkman! I get the orb!" Kevin declared with a grin and put the orb safely into the satchel on his back.

"Who's the adult here?" Quill huffed.

Kevin let out a snort and before he replied he heard a groan and turned his head to look at Korath standing up.

"Oh shi-" Kevin said with wide eyes before letting out a yelp as Quill suddenly grabbed the back of his jacket and dragged him down to the floor with him as the blast of the gun went off, creating a huge hole in the wall.

"Hold on!" Quill said as he activated both his and Kevin's helmet before reaching down and turning on his jet boots.

Kevin gripped onto Quill's side tightly as the brothers shot out of the hole as soon as Korath fired off another blast.

Kevin and Quill both let out a groan after landing hard onto the muddy ground.

But there was no time for resting with a pissed-off Korath and Sakaarans right on their tail.

"Time to go!" Quill yelled as he yanked Kevin up by the back of his jacket and the two started running towards the Milano.

"He sounds pretty pissed!" Kevin stated as they could hear Korath screaming in rage from behind them.

"He'll get over it!" Quill replied.

They both heard a slam and the two looked behind them to see Korath had jumped down from the hole, pure rage in his eyes as he started running after them.

"...Maybe not…" Quill stated after his earlier comment.

"Look out!" Kevin warned and pulled his older brother away from a Sakaaran's gun blast from hitting them.

There were five in front of the Milano and all aiming their guns at them.

"I got it!" Kevin stated as he pulled out a Gravity Mine and threw it perfectly into the middle of the Sakaarans who were guarding the Milano.

As Quill and Kevin both climbed up and used a rock to jump into the Milano, the gravity mine had pulled the Sakaarans to the ground.

Thankfully Quill had pressed a button mid-jump to open the window near the steering.

Both brothers slid gracefully onto the wing, but Quill slid a little too hard into the opening and fell onto the floor.

Then Kevin fell right on top of him, making the man groan.

Quill then quickly shoved Kevin off and took off his helmet, getting up quickly into the pilot seat.

Kevin had let out a soft grunt from being pushed off, but he recovered quickly, taking his helmet off as well, and got into the passenger side.

Using this time to buckle up as Quill started up the ship and noticed Korath and the Sakaarans making a canon-like weapon to fire at them.

"Peter!" Kevin warned as the Sakaarans started to aim at them but then Quill pulled the ship up and barely got out of the way as they fired a blast.

Kevin couldn't help but grip hard onto the armrest of the chair tightly as Quill continued to fly away from the angry Korath and Sakaarans cannon blasts.

The teenage boy finally loosened his grip on the chair and let out a laugh along with Quill.

"Yes! Who's the best pilot?!" Quill cheered looking over at Kevin.

Kevin grinned back at his brother, eyes filled with admiration and amusement, but before he could reply there was a sudden loud thud from underneath the Milano.

Kevin let out a grunt as the whole ship shook.

It seemed that while Quill was all confident and cheering for himself he had accidentally flown into an upcoming blast of steam.

The Milano then spun around upside down and Quill fell straight into the window, face-smashing against it while Kevin let out a grunt from the seatbelt keeping him tightly secured in the chair.

The Milano spun around again and Quill fell into the back of the ship with a pained groan.

Kevin grunted as the ship was spinning all the way down, they were gonna crash if one of them didn't do something.

So, Kevin reached up and pressed a few buttons on the keypad to get his side of the passenger in control of the ship and pulled down the handle just before they hit the ground and the Milano was once again steady.

Kevin let out a heavy breath of relief and slumped back into the chair, looking back at his brother who was slumped against the wall panting.

"...Whose the best pilot again?" Kevin pointed out with a smirk.

Quill gave Kevin an annoyed glare and was too busy trying to catch his breath to reply.

"Peter? What happened?" A woman's voice called out breathlessly coming up from below, catching the two brothers attention.

It was Bereet, the woman Quill promised him that he wouldn't bring back to the ship and possibly scar Kevin's eyes once again.

"Uh hey uh…" Quill stammered, most likely forgetting the woman's name.

He tended to do that with all the partners he's had over the years.

Kevin looked over at his brother with an unamused glare.

"Really? My room's right next door to you…" Kevin announced distastefully.

"You didn't wake up!" Quill defended himself with a huff.

Damn older brothers….
