"No… No, I've already been there… That's not it either. No- Wait… This one. This looks interesting…"
All Violet could see was orange.
She was used to the colors of the world, how they bounced off the sun and hit her irises to blind her with their beauty. The softness of a bright yellow sunflower. The peaceful sign of lilacs. The luckiness she felt from a green four leaf clover. And of course the sensibility of a fresh red rose. But she had never seen anything this orange before. Not in Zaun nor in Piltover. And not in a form outside of flowers.
She had almost forgotten that nature wasn't just soft and sweet. That there were also predatorial entities that lurked in her world.
Like fire.
She never recalled fire being so dangerous. The pinkette remembered bodies of flames warming her house when it was cold some nights that not even an air conditioning unit could secure the safety of her family. She associated the element and color with fond memories of cold winter nights, lit cigarettes and idiotic curiosity. But she never associated it with its negative associations. Arrogance. Risk. Danger.
Exhibitionism.
Tonight was the night where everything started to connect for her when it came to the color orange. There was something about the sight of the boys who she called her brothers lying on the ground, motionless and burnt to a crisp, that served to burn a memory into her head. Only this one wasn't one to bask upon. But one to fear.
It was only supposed to be quick in and out. To set a damn example for the bastards that made her and her sister's lives harder to live. For revenge. But she refused to heed Vander's words.
"I know you want to destroy them. But who are you willing to lose?"
No one was supposed to be taken tonight. No one! Claggor and Mylo's bodies wasn't supposed to deliver a sense of warmth to her body that she was so accustomed to in the form of flames. She wasn't supposed to have come out of that building empty handed! Powder…
Powder's bomb wasn't supposed to be faulty…
The sound of wet patter of rubber soles increased in volume behind Vi, followed by a soft murmur.
"Violet?"
The world had gone silent. Suddenly the crackles of the violent flames didn't bother Violet anymore. The thunder above was muted and the rain that followed behind felt more like snowflakes than tears of gods…
"Violet? D-Did it work? It did!... Right?"
Almost like the undead, Vi's body began to shift at a snail's pace for her gray eyes to fall upon the culprit of it all; Powder. Her young sister. The one who said her bombs would work. The one who she told numerous times after many failed attempts that her bombs would actually work sooner or later… The… The…
"Did it work," the pinkette chuckled in eerie amusement. The sound sent a shiver down the blue haired child's back. "Why don't you see for yourself?"
The young bluette began to approach the flames hesitantly, her big dim blue eyes shifting in patterns at the questionable scenery and the dark aura illuminating off of her sister's figure.
"Go ahead. Look into the flames…"
The image within the roaring flames served to shake Powder to her core. Her eyes widening in disbelief and the scent of burning flesh rotting into her nose made her nearly nauseous. Who were those people?! And why were they withering away so fast from the wildfire!?
"D-Did my bomb do that," the younger girl questioned, still confused as to what she was experiencing, disturbed even as to why her sister would show this to her.
"Your bomb didn't do shit…"
"W-What?"
In a matter of seconds, Powder was caught completely off guard by an incoming punch square into her face! The force was strong enough to launch her onto the floor. Or at least it would have if not for Violet automatically grabbing her by her shirt to pull her back to her feet.
"Violet! W-What are you doing?! Where's Mylo and Claggor-."
"They're right there," The pinkette screamed as she dragged her sister by her arm towards the flames. "Look! Look what your bomb did! Your bomb didn't work and they're dead! Mylo was right! You're just a damn Jinx!"
"Vi- Vi please let me go! Violet, please!"
"They're dead! Do you hear me?! They're dead! Mylo and Claggor are gone! It's all your fau-."
In the midst of the flames growing louder in volume and the lightning coming closer and closer to the siblings, the younger sister had found herself slipping from the girl's grasp to scramble to her feet. She barely noticed droplets of blood falling onto the concrete as she rushed for an opening. Any opening.
"Powder! Powder, come back here!"
Powder turned once more, ceasing her movement to bask upon a sight she never would have expected out of her sister. Or at least the person she thought was her sister. All her life she had seen Vi as the person who would protect her from everything. Who would scare the monsters and bad people away. Now all she saw was a stranger. A literal monster out for blood, fresh from the scary stories of her childhood in the flesh.
"POWDER!"
The blue haired girl yelped in horror as she used all of her stamina to try and outrun the beast that was now chasing her through the empty streets of Zaun. The flames had died down. The thunder grew quieter. The sound of rushed steps and slippery rubber had begun to deplete into the air. Heavy breathing was all the young girl could hear. All she could comprehend as the air in her lungs was starting to give out from the active escape from death.
After a few seconds, she had become like the thunder around her. Powder had appeared before Violet, only to disappear not long after…
"... Powder?! Powder! Come back here!" From the darkness came out a tired Violet, who began to pant heavily from the pursuit that felt like an eternity in the making. Her gray eyes now laced with red vision frantically shifted left to right. Up and down. There was no Powder in sight.
"Powder! POWDER! You don't get to just run away from this like everything else!... Powder!" Vi's chest raised and fell at an unnatural state as pants escaped her mouth back and forth. Some moments the adrenaline was too much that she would have to depend on her nose instead of her mouth. Not just that, but to help her from slamming her fist into the nearest wall and face…
Then again. Punching something sounded awfully nice right now…
"Hello, girl."
Bingo.
Turning on her heel, Vi delivered a southpaw at the individual behind her, slamming her bandaged fist into a skinny abdomen. The force was enough to slam the individual into a wall with a loud hiss.
That felt super nice.
What didn't feel nice was a knife sticking at her throat in a matter of seconds. Her attention swiftly switched to the person with the weapon of choice; A messy blonde haired man staring at her with a crooked eye and a smile that embodied her own twisted excitement from a moment ago. He wasn't alone either. There were also three more individuals that started to circle around her like a pack of foxes on a bunny.
"That's quite a punch you pack," The man groaned in front of Vi, prompting her to stare up at him. The individual delivered a sense of dread to the young female, especially at the sight of a demonic orange and black eye.
The Eye of Zaun. Silco.
The sight of the evil man she's been warned of sent the pinkette into a fight mode, barely feeling the blade still on her neck sinking closer towards her trachea. The leader of the pack on the other hand simply stared down at his attacker as if looking at an everyday Zaunite, not a child.
Vi's eyes locked onto Silco's single orange eye, finding domination looming and burning within. "Where's your sister?"
The men of the crime lord began to look upon Vi when she lacked to answer him. They waited for an action. One wrong move to make the frantic blonde slit her throat. Anything. An attack was anticipated. But what wasn't anticipated was the answer delivered back laced in an unknown emotion to all, including Silco…
"Sister? I don't know who you're talking about…"
"I know how you feel," Silco began suddenly, earning everyone's undivided attention. "... Family can be problematic… Destructive. Deceiving. And deadly… But I learned one thing from my family." Silco suddenly bent down to Vi's level, his eyes connecting with her gray ones in search of anything. A semblance of humanity. "They all leave eventually… And you are left with nothing. When you have nothing, you will fall for anything. Only then are you truly free... In this world of omegas, only the alphas survive…"
"You're an idiot." Those words sparked something inside of everyone around Vi, who stared at the pinkette in disbelief of her arrogant words. How could a dumb child say something like that to the Eye of Zaun so casually?
Well, it's because of exactly the opposite. Violet wasn't a child anymore. She wasn't some random Zaunite trying to start trouble with Silco and his men. She wasn't even a threat to them. She was more than that.
"I'm not an alpha. I'm an apex predator…"
She was a vicious monster hungry for blood.
And she would be like the flames; Devour everything and everyone.
Hello, everyone!
So there was supposed to be a two pictures with this chapter since I am trying to work on it as if it's a light novel of sorts. Unfortunately, Fanfiction can't add pics. SO! The best bet I can do is leave my Instagram and Tumblr here for you guys to check out art for the story.
Outside of that, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Feel free to leave feedback! Have a good day! :)
