"Here is the guest list baby, of everyone that has RSVP'd" Alex hands the A4 sheet filled with neatly handwritten names and contacts to Kelly before resting her hand on Kelly's shoulders. Kelly almost instinctively places a small peck on Alex right hand which is gently massaging her shoulder.
Kelly skims through the list, slightly distracted by a cute but clumsy Esme knocking over a tube of blue paint as it spills over the table.
Alex notices this and walks around towards Esme rushing to pull the tube upright.
"Oh, I'm sorry" Esme apologizes. She looks a little disheartened.
"Don't worry, sweetheart," Alex whispers to Esme.
"Hey, my co-worker David also RSVP'd, should I add them too" Kelly perks up.
"Yeah, sure babe" Alex pulls Esme into a tight squeeze, not wanting Esme to think she is in trouble.
Kelly glances at Alex and giggles.
"What?" Alex questions in confusion.
"You've got a little…" Kelly motions wiping her own cheek.
Esme had managed to get paint imprints of her tiny fingertips of blue paint on Alex's face.
Realizing, Alex laughs as she looks at Esme. Esme looked visibly relieved and began to smirk, initially thinking that Alex would be frustrated with her.
"You little…" impulsively Alex dips her hand in some of the piles of the wet paint on the table before chasing Esme around the room with paint coated fingers. They're all laughing now. For a moment Alex pauses to lock this memory in her mind. A memory of being a mom. Esme is now bellowing of laughter as she runs around ducking behind the chair that Kelly is sitting on.
Alex catches up to her picking her up and tickling her. Esme shrieks with laughter. Her pink overalls are covered in handprints of blue paint.
Kelly watches admiringly at the two having fun.
Eventually, they all settle down and Esme is cleaned up and playing with her toys before bedtime.
"Darling, who is Mon-El?" Kelly asks inquisitively.
Alex looks back in confusion, wondering where Kelly would get that name from.
"He is under 'Winn' in the guest list?"
"Oh", "He is a legionnaire" Alex spots Kelly's confusion that mirrored her own a few seconds ago.
"Like Winn, he is a superhero in the future, but he is Alien, like Kara, I think he is the leader actually" Alex rambles slightly.
"Anyways he used to live in this time, and he is a close friend of mine and the super friends, especially Kara".
"Oh, that's cool, our wedding is going to be jam-packed with Superheroes, nothing can go wrong" Kelly smiles.
"Um babe, don't jinx it; you haven't seen what happened at Barry and Iris' wedding." Alex spurts out with a hint of trauma in her voice.
Kelly looked at Alex curiously and slightly concerned
"ONE WORD, NAZIS" Alex lifted her pointy finger up.
Kelly didn't question further; she really didn't want to be worrying about supervillains this close to the wedding, or any kind of villains for that matter.
The day had come, a beautiful outdoor field, far away from the chaos of National city, chosen by the two moms and almost a married couple.
Rows of white fold-out chairs decorated with vibrant rainbow flowers. Kelly was dressed in an elegant lace bridal suit with wide-leg satin trousers and a shoulder free satin neck top. Her long locks were curled and rested on her shoulders.
She stood with pride centre-stage, slightly nervous but excitedly waiting to see her almost to be wife for the first time that day.
An orchestra of violins and a great piano staged on the left of Kelly began to play "Home to You" by Sigrid, a classic favourite of Alex and Kelly. This was Kara's cue; she adjusted her mic slightly, standing with a wide grin in front of the piano.
The guest began to sit down, Nia and Lena sat excitedly on the front left row in matching blue floral dresses, a seat beside them reserved for Kara. James and Brainy sat on the right side in navy blue suits. They all had big smiles on their faces lighting up the ceremony.
Amongst the guests in the other rows sat Eliza, Winn and his family, Mon-el, and a handful of friends and family of Alex and Kelly's.
As the song started to end the guest stood up. The front row took their places as bridesmaids and groomsmen and Eliza stood in the centre at the front as the officiant, along with Kara who joined the girls.
Everyone turned their heads to an adorable Esme in a pink sparkly dress walked in strides, throwing red petals cheerfully on the white floored Asile, before joining Kara at the front.
Followed behind Esme; Alex.
Everyone stopped and stared, bedazzled by her. She was hooked onto J'onn's arm. She stopped for a moment. The guests stared at her in awe. She wore a long silky white dress embedded with jewels, with a classic poufy white lace skirt that pooled around her on the floor. A
She stared at the picture-perfect setting, a million things running through her mind, the colours, the song, the flowers, the guests- people she loved and cherished so deeply were all here to celebrate with her. And Kelly, Esme. She smiled holding back tears of joy. It was the wedding she always dreamed of. The biggest, gayest wedding she desired for so long. She had it all.
'You mean the world to me' by Freya Ridings, a song that meant a lot to the couple, began the procession.
As Alex and J'onn walked down the aisle.
When she reached the front, J'onn gave Alex a kiss on the cheek and proudly smiled at her before, walking off to stand with James and Brainy.
Eliza began with sweet words. They said their vows, which had everyone in tears, even J'onn, the rings were exchanged and then it was the moment everyone had been waiting for.
"You may kiss your bride," Eliza said enthusiastically.
Alex leaned in claiming Kelly's lips on her own as she kissed her long and passionately with purpose.
The guests cheered.
Alex took Esme's hand and Kelly took her other. The three of them ran down the aisle, with Esme in between, illustrating the biggest grins.
After the biggest, gayest wedding ceremony concluded the biggest, gayest party. They had moved to a large spaced marquee with an outdoor area decorated with fairy lights and flowers, and centring a water fountain. Kara stood amongst it all, was magical, she beamed at the happy couple, her sister and Kelly.
After a while of sneaking as many wedding snacks as she could and a sweet moment with James.
Kara's eyes searched for Mon-El.
"Hey, there you guys are" she finally spotted a pair of handsome young men standing side by side.
Both Winn and Mon-El stood next to each other and smiled, greeting Kara.
"Hi Kara" Winn went in for a hug, "I missed you guys" he spoke into her shoulder. "I've missed you too Winn".
"And unfortunately, my family couldn't make it, sorry," Winn said apologetically.
"That's alright, hopefully, I get to meet them one day".
The three of them chatted for a while, catching up and reminiscing about the good times they had with each other.
"And when Alex punched that guy who kidnapped her".
"That moment is literally the definition of your sister being a badass," Mon-El said.
They chatted together about it all.
"Hey guys, sorry to break this up, but I'm am going to go say hi to Alex" With that Winn walked off heading over to Winn and Alex.
"So, how long has it been for you in the future," Kara asks, knowing that if Winn is married and has had children then they must have been gone for a while, maybe he even had a family of his own, she shook the thought, why was she even thinking of that.
"Almost five years, I think" he paused. Kara stayed silent realizing that Darla, Winn's daughter was already ten years old.
"Not as long as Winn," he said, almost as if he knew what she was thinking.
Kara was visibly confused.
He noticed this. The lines on her forehead the way she scrunched her nose and the crinkle appeared, even if she wasn't lying.
"It's hard to explain, timey-wimey stuff"
She smirked at him saying 'timey-wimey'.
"You?" He asked. She broke away from her thoughts.
"Almost three"
He nodded taking it in. They stood awkwardly in silence for a bit, with Mon-El's eyes lingering on Kara when she wasn't looking.
"I have to say, this is a beautiful wedding, and I'm surprised- a wedding full of superheroes and nothing went wrong" he smiled attempting to break the tension.
"Please don't jinx it Mon-el" Kara squeezed her eyes shut and laughed. His name felt so foreign on her tongue. They revelled at that moment. Laughing together. Staring, enamoured by each other.
"Hey, you two" Alex eyed Kara, who was a little out of it as she composed herself.
"Hi, Alex, congratulations, I'm really happy for you" Mon-El leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek before hugging her. "Yeah, I am too" Alex giggled, joy and smiles oozing out of her like melted candy. Mon-El peered down, noticing a tiny hand placed on Alex's dress. "You must be really good at hide and seek" Mon-El crouched down. "This is my daughter Esme" Alex explained.
Esme peered from behind Alex's dress, a little shy.
"Are you an alien?" Esme whispered.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"I am an alien too, a Dyralian" Esme moved fully into sight.
"Woah, that is awesome, can I tell you a little secret Esme?" Mon-El whispered playfully.
Esme nodded
"But you have to promise not to tell anyone" Mon-El faked a serious look.
He held out his pinky finger
Esme twisted her pinky around his "Promise" she smiled, a lot more relaxed.
"My name is Mon-El, I'm from the future, and I've met a Dyralilan superhero, she is super cool like you".
Esme beamed.
"I want to be a superhero like my mom's when I grow up" Esme spoke excitedly.
"I think you will be" Mon-El winked at her cheerfully.
Esme looked at auntie Kara smiling at them, the way Alex would smile at Kelly.
"Can I ask a question?" Esme spoke curiously.
"Yeah sure, go for it?" Mon-El was enjoying Esme's company.
"Are you Auntie Kara's boyfriend?"
Mon-El hesitated for a second, he wasn't expecting this.
Kara herself jumped at the question.
"Well, uh, no, I'm a good friend of Auntie Kara and Alex"
"Oh okay, it was nice to meet you," Esme said politely, she leaned over whispering in Mon-El's ear. "I think she likes you too".
Mon-El nodded smiling, as he wondered how this little girl picked up on anything going on between him and Kara.
Mon-El held out his hand, Esme reached out to shake his hand before he moved his hand away.
"You missed" Mon-El laughed
Esme giggled.
"Okay here" he held out his fist and Esme fist-bumped him; he pulled his fist away making a silly woosh noise.
"You're funny" Esme stated, grinning her cute grin.
Then a punk rock song blasted through the speakers, which Kara immediately recognized having to listen to on loop due to Alex's punk rock phase.
Alex's face lit up "Are you guys gonna come dance?" she said puppy eyes forming on her face which turned to laser beams noticing Kara's lack of enthusiasm.
Kara looked at the crowd growing on the dance floor, Winn standing out with questionable dance moves.
"Uhm, I don't think so," Kara said.
"Really you're gonna let your poor niece and sister dance on her own on her own wedding day?" Alex knew exactly what would guilt trip Kara.
"Fine, for old times' sake, but you're coming too" she pulled onto Mon-El's bicep following after an eager Alex running towards the dance.
Kara had to admit, this was actually fun, between admiring Mon-EL goofily dancing around with Esme and all four of them, laughing at Winn.
Then the song changes to a slow song, a million dreams from the greatest showman. Kara loved this song and the musical.
Everyone grabs a dance partner; Kelly and Alex, brainy and Nia, Eliza and J'onn, Winn and Esme.
Eventually, it's just Kara and Mon-El.
They stand opposite each a little more than 2 feet apart, he holds out his arm for her hand.
She goes for it, how bad could it be, dancing with her ex.
Taking his hand and Mon-El gently pulls her in close to him. She gently places her hands on his shoulders, and he puts his arms around her waist resting his hands on her lower back. They began to move slowly and in rhythm with the song.
She remembered that feeling of being in his arms, the only difference is he felt much more muscular. She looked into his eyes, misty grey. She couldn't help but admit how handsome he looked up-close.
She noticed the changes too, he clearly didn't age much but his beard looked a little thicker, still neat and she could notice his jawline. His lips. This was too much. She loved that beard.
She moved her head to his shoulder, closing her eyes. This way she wouldn't have to look at him, knowing he would have to leave eventually. She wanted to enjoy this moment, just like the way she had imagined this. However, resting her head caused another issue for Kara that almost made her jump.
She didn't need super-hearing to hear his heartbeat, drumming against her ear.
The song fades but Kara and Mon-El don't even notice, they're in a dream and before they can snap out of it, Re-write the stars plays. It was almost like they were just using a playlist from the Greatest Showman. But Kara wasn't complaining, she was settled, moving slowly in Mon-El's arms. Listening to lyrics that practically described their own complicated star-crossed love.
The rest of the night was filled with celebration, love and laughter and it was over, all too fast for anyone's liking.
Post Wedding – Kara's apartment
Day after the wedding
"So how does it feel?" Kara says excitedly while she is snuggled under a blanket on her couch.
Alex starts to furiously blush, pulling her hands up to her face briefly, "I honestly have never experienced something so magical in my life, except for Esme" Alex beams.
"I just, I, I don't know is it really possible to be this happy", "To have everything I have ever wanted"
"If you want something enough, that you make the difficult decisions, then yes, it is possible, and you did all that Alex, you deserve it all."
"Talking about the wedding, you seemed to particularly hit it off with Mon-El last night."
Kara blushed slightly.
"Alex we're supposed to be talking about you and your wedding, not my feelings for Mon…" Kara stopped herself raising a hand to her mouth.
"Aha, so you do have feelings for him" Alex teased playfully, but Kara didn't seem very amused.
"Kara, you slow danced with him."
"We did a little more than that actually." Kara's cheeks were completely red now as she covered her face with the blanket. Oh why, oh did she have to say anything, Kara screamed in her mind.
"Kara, what do you mean?" Alex stared at her piercingly, the box of potstickers they were sharing pulled far away from Kara's reach.
"After the wedding" Kara began the story
Alex's face was coloured with joy and curiosity. This was going to be good, and possibly cheesy, who knows it's Kara after all.
"Listen there were quite a few aliens at your wedding so coincidentally there was Aldebaran rum. So, after the slow dance, we had a little to drink, y'know for old times' sake". Kara spoke through the sentence slowly pausing frequently.
"KARA!" Alex had her 'get to the point face' on and Kara knew.
"Okay, okay".
End of the wedding – Flash Back.
"So heyy, why don't you come back to m-yy apert, apartment and I can show you around, it's been like a thousand years since you have seeen it". "Y'know for old times sakee" Kara raised another glass, at this point a little un aware of what she was drinking".
They were both at the bar, picking out different colorful drinks, neither of them knew how they got here.
"For old times' sake," he clinked his glass against hers.
They downed it quickly.
"Wow that was fast," they both said referring to each other.
Then they laughed, giggling, Kara almost saw herself lost for balance before she instinctively grappled onto Mon-El's arm.
"Woah there, you're not floating are youu"
"No, I'm not" they giggled again, their minds drifting in and out of their past memory of being drunk together.
By this point, Kara's arm had found it safely nestled in a loop with Mon-El's.
It was a surprisingly warm night in National City and there were no cars, light showers of rain pattered against the pavement as Kara and Mon-El stumbled their way to her building complex, occasionally swinging a little too far left.
The reflection of the moonlight glimmered in the wet road ahead.
Mon-el took a quick glance at her, noticing the way the light made her blue eyes shimmer.
"What?" Kara asked, a little dizzy.
He needed to dodge the question.
"I Uhm, I was just thinking, we never had any wedding cake" that was the best he could do, and matter of fact his disappointment didn't need faking.
"Aw yeah, you're right" Kara made a slight whimpering noise.
"It's okay, I will text Alex to save me - usss some cayyke." She wobbled slightly to the right, leaning onto Mon-el.
She absentmindedly, took out her phone, ignoring the series of texts Alex had already sent.
'Kara where are you, we're serving cake!'
'Seriously I'm worried, where did you go?'
"You didn't take that hot bartender with you Kara ?'
'Anyways, I love you, stay safe, text me when you see this'
'I LOVE YOUUU TOOO, SAVE US CAKEE PLZ!' Kara clicked send.
"Mission accomplished" she yelled raising her phone up into the air enthusiastically.
"Way to go supergirl" he laughed cheering with her, attempting to high five her before missing completely.
"Shhhhh" she pulled her finger up to her lips holding in a giggle.
"Way to go supergirl" he whispered this time, correcting himself.
They walked in silence for a bit before Mon-El gained some composure and perked up.
"So, are you with anyone right now?"
She stopped and stared at him with a dumbfounded look on her face.
"You're really drunk Mon-el, I'm standing right here, I'm with you" Kara managed to splutter out still confused.
"Noooooo, I meant dating, are you dating anyone". Mon-El reiterated his question.
"Oooh, oops" Kara moved her hand to her mouth to cover a laugh.
"Nope," she said simply a little sadness in her voice.
"I AM JUST SUPER" she was yelling again.
"Supergirl" she whispered realising.
"That's a secret though, don't tell anyone, but I'm an alien" her words slurred together.
"My lips are sealed" Mon-El gestured zipping his lips shut.
"Did I tell you I quit my job?" Kara laughed, but her emotion was a little heavier.
"What?", "but you love reporting" Mon-El was genuinely disappointed, knowing how much reporting meant to Kara.
"Yeah, but Andrea, my boss, sucks and..." Kara paused forgetting what she was talking about.
"Hey, maybe I'll go back to "
"Oh yes, your blog"
"It's blob" Kara corrected him with a serious look.
He raised his hands up in defence, sorry, blob" he corrected himself.
After their long walk, they managed to gain some sense after the alcohol running through their bloodstream began to dissipate, but some other kind of drug was driving them nuts.
They took the elevator up, both standing opposite each other leaning against the walls.
"You're dress looks nice by the way" Mon-El interrupted the silence in the elevator.
"You always said I cleaned up nicely"
"No actually, I always said you looked stunning". Mon-El smiled at her.
Kara blushed; she moved her hand to her face brushing her hand past her nose before a small laugh escaped her.
"Don't do that" she said.
"What?" Mon-El was worried he crossed a line.
"Compliment me, I can't." Kara giggled.
"What I can't compliment a friend now?" he smiled at her goofily.
She brushed her nose with her hand again.
"don't do that then," he said.
She looked at him, puzzled.
"That thing, with your nose" he mirrored her, brushing his nose with his hand. "It's too cute, I can't take it".
She giggled again.
"And that, no more giggling" Mon-El added.
She laughed "friends don't do this kind of thing you know"
The elevator doors had opened and began closing without their notice. Quickly Mon-El pushed the closing door back with his hand, it opened back up.
"After you m'lady" he held his arm out.
She walked through and he followed suit.
They walked in silence as she reached her door and fumbled around for her keys.
She let him walk in first this time.
"Wow, I like what you have done with the place".
They laughed simultaneously, both knowing not much had changed with her apartment.
He turned around to face her as she shut the door and turned around to face him.
They looked at each other for a moment, a slow but fleeting moment.
He walked up to her, a few inches apart.
"Well, maybe I don't wanna be friends" he replied to her comment in the elevator.
He leaned into her, waiting for a moment for approval, before pressing his lips to hers.
Her head hit the door with a thump but she didn't feel a thing.
They were simply drunk and in love.
They moved in sync towards the couch, she pulled away from him.
"I've missed this" she smiled.
He showed his agreement by pulling her back into a kiss and pushing her onto the sofa.
Their hands were all over each other, they didn't care, liquid courage driving them along.
"Kara, I have can't believe I have to say this again but I don't particularly enjoy sitting on a couch where you, you know" Alex interrupted Kara's story.
Kara understood what she meant; Alex already complained the last time she told her about her getting together with Mon-El on the couch.
"Just, get a room you know, you have a bed right there" Alex pointed towards Kara's apartment bedroom, shivering at the thought her little sister was getting frisky with Mon-El right where she was.
"Okay, I'm sorry, I get it" Kara laughed but she was visibly embarrassed.
"Anyways, back to the story, if you still wanna know?" Maybe this was her escape and Alex was done.
Alex nodded her head to Kara's disappointment.
She was unbuttoning his shirt before she stopped and moved away again. A little more sense flashed through her mind, ugh she hated her mind.
He looked at her, concerned and a little puzzled.
She moved back sitting up and pulling him up by his shoulders.
"Is everything okay?"
"I don't think this is a good idea," Kara said but her hormones were kicking her.
"Listen, this has been a lot of fun, and no I wasn't trying to seduce you when asking you to come to my apartment, but anyway, I don't wanna have to do this and then have to watch you walking out that door in the morning, I just, watching you leave again" she sighed and it broke his heart.
He wanted to stay, he was gonna tell he would stay, and then he thought about it, she was right, and he can't stay.
"I'm sorry" he moved off of her settling his feet onto the floor. He was pouting but he didn't realise.
"No, no listen it's okay, we can still have fun, just let's not go all the way, we can forget that you're gonna have to leave and have a good time like before".
"Yeah?" he asked looking at her with unnecessary puppy eyes.
"Yeah" she squeaked out.
"Being back together for a night, for old times' sake, at least this way we can savour it" she grinned.
He looked at her, no pout remnants left on his face".
He grinned back at her before jumping onto her kissing her cheek and tickling her waist.
She was giggling uncontrollably now.
They enjoyed that night, watching rom-coms and musicals, eating a lot of ice cream, endless cuddles and kisses. It was going to be a night the pair would remember. After years of not seeing or talking or touching each other, they were nestled right back in and they felt at home.
Kara awoke to a handsome alien sleeping beside her, her head was slightly ringing, 'Aldebaran rum' she thought to herself.
But all she cared about was him, his peaceful face and the way his bare skin basked in the morning sunlight. She kissed his shoulder lightly, trying to not think about him leaving and just living in that moment.
"Morning," he said in a groggy deep voice before his eyes opened and he smiled at her.
He turned to lay on his back and his hand searched for hers before clasping a gentle hold on it.
They talked, letting time waste by, about everything, the future, their past and the past before that. Still pretending like they had all the time in the world. Making impossible plans of travelling to other planets with each other. She had nuzzled in closer to him, cheeks touching and her free hand stroking his chest in random circles.
"Aghh" Kara sighed caressing her head, we can't get fat on this planet but lucky us, we get hangovers."
Mon-el laughed at her. "Count your stars lucky babe."
He wasn't sure if saying babe was part of the rules or not, he noticed it slightly startled Kara, or maybe that was the hangover, he wasn't sure.
"You know hangovers aren't a thing in the future" Mon-El stated.
She looked at him, jealousy evident in her face. "Really, I'm impressed."
"Yeah, one day you can visit and experience the bliss of being drunk and no pain the next morning".
"yes please, anyways I'm hungry" Her mind diverted to food, it was almost like clockwork for Kara.
He looked at her with a smirk.
She rolled her eyes at him, secretly enjoying that he wanted her.
"what are you feeling?"
"you?" he pulled their clasped hand to his chest above his heart.
"Food, Mon-el, food".
She didn't let him answer
"Ooooh what about pancakes" there was no changing Kara's mind.
"Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes" she cheered excitedly, she crawled over on top of him now with her own puppy eyes that he couldn't resist.
"Pancakes it is!"
She leaned in to peck him, he wanted it to last longer, but in a dash, hungry Kara hopped off the bed.
"I'm just going to freshen up" she walked off towards the bathroom.
He took that as his queue, to get up and sneak his way to the kitchen.
It only took Mon-El a short time to find his way around her kitchen. He wanted to make her breakfast.
She smiled back at herself in the mirror before drenching her face with water. Kara sped into her outfit for the day and back to the bathroom. She adjusted her hair, and put on some light makeup. That's when she noticed a small red circle plastered on her neck.
'We really did have a good time' Kara thought to herself while adjusting her collar to hide it.
And then waves of a sweet aroma wafted in and Kara was drugged on it. She sped to the Kitchen and caught Mon-El flipping a pancake and watched it free fall perfectly into a plate. They sat at the corner carefully deciding what sauce they want. Their hands both landed on the chocolate sauce. Mon-El reached it first, Kara pulled her hand away in defeat.
"I think you should stack them" she suggested, smirking.
He looked at her with a facial expression of 'please no'.
"Stack them, stack them, stack them" Kara chanted.
"You know, I almost dislocated my jaw the last time I did that, I may have super strength but pancakes hurt".
"wimp" she teased, smiling.
"Okay fine, for old times' sake" he gave in, stacking six pancakes on top of each other with a layer of chocolate sauce in between each one.
"One bite" he raised his pointer finger up.
Mon-El took a deep breath in before he stretched out his jaw as wide as he could, making a crackling noise as he did, and clenched down on a large bite of the pancake's.
"I cold hew id wouud hurt" he tried to speak with a mouthful of pancake.
Kara laughed, whipping out her phone to snap a photo. "This is gonna be one for the history books".
She giggled as she began devouring her own pancakes, in an eager but much more graceful way.
"What?" Mon-El asked.
"You have a lot of chocolate sauce all over your face, I think it's a good look for you actually" She teased.
"Oh," he quickly pulled a napkin to his face, wiping of all but one small dab of chocolate from the side of his mouth.
"You missed a bit" Kara gestured with her own face, finding this quite adorable.
He tried and missed it again, Kara gave in, taking the tissue from his hand, she arched over across the corner of the table from her stool and almost fell into Mon-el. She grabbed at his face with one hand for her own stability, but Mon-El wouldn't mind her hands all over him all the time. She wiped it off quickly.
"There, perfect," she said as she stroked her hand down his beard to his chin before letting go and sitting back down.
He loved this, endorphins were running through him and he knew at this moment that this was his place, not the time period but wherever Kara was, was where he wanted to be, but superheroes don't work like that and so his joy faded to disappointment.
Kara slowed at the realization that she had her last bite of pancake and this fairytale dream would be over.
They stood opposite each other, 2 feet apart, Mon-El by the door of her apartment.
"Thank you, Kara" he croaked out.
"It was a perfect night," he said trying to focus on the positive.
Kara didn't have a goodbye speech prepared; she didn't want to say anything- so she didn't.
Kara walked over and wrapped her arms around his neck, nestling her face into his shoulder. His heartbeat was slower now, calm, peaceful and she listened trying to store it in her mind. He moved away from her, his arms on her shoulders. "Maybe we'll get our chance one day," he said, trying to offer her some hope. He kissed her forehead and let go of her.
"Kara, close your eyes, for me".
She did as he said.
And after a moment, she opened them, and he was gone.
"I'm sorry, Kara" Alex looked back at her little sister with sorrow.
"It's fine," Kara said disappointment evident in her voice.
Alex thought to herself for a moment, hesitantly she suggested "Why don't you go with him?"
Kara froze at the suggestion
"What do you mean, go to the future?"
"Yeah?"
"Alex, I don't think that's even possible, what about you, what about National city, what about Supergirl and the super friends?"
"Everything you just said – you're making excuses and you're stopping yourself from being happy"
"National city as you mentioned has a whole team of superheroes to protect it, I know this is a big decision and it's not that I don't want you to be around, but I love you and I want you to be happy, you have sacrificed so much for this city, for me, it's time Kara Zor-El takes care of herself, I'll always be here, in this time" Alex attempted to convince her sister.
Kara didn't say anything, the idea of leaving Alex again, her home it was too much to process, but a life with Mon-el, she wanted that more than anything.
"Kara, do you love him?"
Kara slowly nodded her head.
"Then listen to your own words, we can have what we want but only if we work for it, make the hard choices and sacrifice for it".
Kara thought about it for a moment, Alex reminded her of something Kal-El said to her years ago.
"I don't know, it's just" Kara was interrupted.
Before either of them could say anything further, light taps knock against Kara's door.
While Alex's head is turned, Kara wipes the tears about to spill from her eyes and she didn't need her x-ray vision to know who was at the door.
"Come in" she yells excitedly, attempting to forget the conversation she just had.
Esme speed runs to Alex, mimicking Kara's powers to get there fast enough, she jumps onto the sofa giving her a tight hug.
"Hi, sweetheart" Alex greets her.
"Hi mom," she says adorably as Kelly follows walking into Kara's apartment a little visibly tired.
"I see you're getting better control of your powers" Kara laughs.
"Hi, Auntie Kara" Esme squeaks as she settles.
The DEO
"Winn and Mon-El are leaving if you want to say goodbye" J'onn tapped Kara's shoulder as she walked through the DEO.
Kara didn't want to, not to J'onn's knowledge but she technically already had.
But she wanted to say bye to Winn.
"Hey buddy, thanks for visiting, it was lovely to see you again" Kara squeaked.
"Superfriends for life" they high fived and hugged.
"Do you want to say goodbye to Mon-El, I'm sure he is around here somewhere" Winn's eyes skimmed the ship.
"No, it's okay, I've already said bye".
She dismissed before turning around and Winn wandered away on the ship.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt to just see him, one more time, as long as he didn't notice, she turned back, sneakily trying to spot a man in red spandex. She waited, her sisters' words running through her mind 'Maybe it's time for Kara Zor-El to take care of herself'. She gave up, turning back, her eyes moved to the floor before suddenly she heard a heartbeat she could recognize anywhere. She turned her head back to the entrance of the ship.
Mon-El stopped behind her, watching Kara stare at the ship in front of them. Suffice to say he was a little bemused.
"Um, hey Kara"
Kara jumped, turning around to face him. 'Oh no,' she thought to herself.
"Are you looking for someone?" he asked.
Kara straightened attempting to not look suspicious as she shook her head.
He looked at her eyes. 'Comets' he thought to himself.
Without really thinking about it, a rush of adrenaline spiked through him
"Why don't you come with me?" He said repeating the words she had said to him almost three years ago.
Kara was still, did he just read her mind, did Alex tell him they talked.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked you that, I know you have your life and your family here" Mon-El tried to save himself.
"No" Kara managed to whisper out.
"Yeah, I know I'm sorry, it was selfish of me to ask you to leave the home you ha..."
"Shut up Mon-El" she couldn't wait any longer.
He stopped, for a split second he felt waves of embarrassment.
But then...a second later.
She leaned into him, and kissed him, her hands pressed into his face. He instinctively placed his arms around the small of her back pulling her closer to him.
She pulled away for a second, a few tears trickled down her cheeks. She grinned at him from ear to ear.
She clasped her hands together around his neck and rested her head there, inhaling in his scent. She thought for a moment, she didn't want this to end, she wanted him forever. She moved away out of his hold.
"Marry me?" she said, almost so quietly, Mon-El barely heard it.
He was shocked, speechless. Did he hear her correctly? Is this a yes, he wondered? What is going on? his mind was racing.
"I've always questioned whether I can have it all, being Supergirl, a job I love and, well, Love, but I'm tired of questions, and I'm done with pretending that I being Supergirl is enough. I want to be Kara, Kara-Zor-El, with you".
"You see, yesterday Alex and I were talking about you and if I would leave to go to the future with you, you're not selfish Mon-el. And I think she is right, I want you, I want to give you my full commitment". She explained, she hadn't prepared any of this, it was all coming out and she couldn't help it.
"Mon-El, you have always been so brave to admit how you feel, you have sacrificed so much, for this world, for me, and so this is me admitting to you, I love you Mon-El. "Wherever you are, whenever you are, whether its 1000 years into the future or another planet, you are my time, my place.
"So, after all these years, Mon-El, will you marry me?"
His eyes welled up, the thought of Kara wanting to leave everything behind, for him. It shook him to his core.
"Kara, I'm gay," he said smiling.
Now Kara had her fair share of confusion.
He laughed and Kara sighed with relief, acknowledging his very unnecessary goofy joke.
Before Kara could scold him, Mon-El was wrapping his hands around her waist, lifting her up and spinning her around.
She bent her neck to look at him, she wanted to hear it, his answer.
"Yes," he smiled.
"Yes?" She questioned beaming.
"Yes, yes, yes, it will always be yes" he was grinning like a Cheshire cat.
She tilted her head forward, her eyes closed and her lips touched his own in a passionate kiss.
The End
