Hello everybody.
A quick one-shot fixing my one major issue with Justice League's Unlimited season one's finale of Epilogue is ironically not Terry being Bruce's son. Well, I can see both sides of the argument anyway.
One issue I am fixing is the fact of Terry McGinnis marrying Dana Tan who as a girlfriend was not great in the series, and rather Terry marrying Melanie Walker instead.
Frankly I wouldn't have even care if they didn't bother explaining how Melanie ended up back in Terry's life but rather just have them together.
As Melanie had potential in the show itself, they sadly never did anything with Melanie, and past that what we did get in the show leads me to believe she really was the best choice for Terry.
Even though her haters are still stuck on her being a thief, never mind the fact Melanie reformed.
Onwards.
Wayne Manor in a sitting area
Terry McGinnis is at a desk rubs his eyes for a moment pondering all the revelations of Amanda Waller on her genetic experimenting for the Batman Beyond project and sending out the Phantasm out that almost resulted him in losing his parent's years earlier when exiting the Gray Ghost film. Or just the weight of wearing the cowl after all these years.
Worse yet is the troubling dreams of having quit being Batman, breaking up with Melanie Walker after all these years, and ending his time as a Justice League participant.
Glancing over at the grandfather clock Terry debates wakening her, but really needs to hear her voice. The voice of the one woman who's truly stuck by him in his life being Melanie Walker. A woman he's loved, his friend and partner for years now, and completely understand the burden of his dual life.
Like Selina Kyle was for Bruce throughout the years and later they worked together in the final years post Tim Drake's capture at Joker's hands and Barbara retiring from being Batgirl.
Only Bruce like always put the mission first as Selina left for being unable to watch him die given they both reached the point where their bodies could no longer keep up with living the nightly strain. Of course, the crisis of 09 which resulted in major deaths or retirements from nearly all of the Justice League didn't help much either Terry guesses.
Back to his personal life is Dana Tan and Max Gibbson's relationships with him ended horribly. Even his relationship with his mother was impacted by the cost of being Batman.
Looking down at the cellphone Terry picks up the phone with placing it to his ear.
"Hello, Mels," Terry says smiling.
"Hi. So, what's up for calling me at three AM?" Melanie asks groggily.
"I just wanted to check to see if we were still on for this Friday?" Terry asks.
"Sure, unless something comes up for your other job with Mr. Wayne so we can always reschedule" Melanie replies.
"I'm actually hoping we don't have to this time. I just want to ask you something" Terry replies glancing at the open ring box on pulling it out of his pocket.
"Well then ask me," Melanie says.
"On Friday" Terry replies.
"Ah so very mysterious, well I'll see you on Friday. Love you" Melanie says.
"Love you" Terry replies.
Hanging up the phone with placing the ring box, and phone in his pocket Terry's lightly startled on noticing his father approaching.
"You're in my chair," Bruce says gravelly.
"Yeah, guess I am" Terry replies rising to his feet after a moment.
"Where the devil have you been?" Bruce asks sitting down.
"I had some stuff to take care of" Terry replies.
"Enigma's overrated, especially at 3 a.m. You could've called. I made you some soup, but it's cold" Bruce says in concern. Following all these years has a very new understanding, and appreciation for Alfred.
"Sorry, didn't mean to worry you" Terry replies warmly.
"I was worried about Gotham. If Batman's not around Bruce says trailing off while trying to open a bottle of pills.
Reaching over Terry takes the bottle from his father opening it and holding out a few pills in his palm.
"I've got it covered, always" Terry replies firmly.
"Kent called. Nothing apocalyptic. He just wants your opinion on a case he's working. Said you could meet him at the Metro Tower" Bruce says taking the pills into his hand.
"Right. Better suit up" Terry says eagerly, a young man's youth.
Terry dashes past Bruce over to the clock opening it to reveal the stairwell down below.
"You should eat something first, keep up your strength" Bruce suggests.
"When I get back" Terry replies.
"You're a stubborn piece of work, you know that?" Bruce asks rhetorically.
"Just like my old man" Terry replies lightly smiling.
With that statement, Terry leaves his father in the sitting room for venturing down as the bats flutter around in the cavern below.
Hope you all enjoyed this and leave a review letting me know what you think.
Terry thinking over how Selina left Bruce is going off how in the Epilogue episode is Catwoman gets mentioned as one of the people who left Bruce alongside his other partners.
There was a plan for using of Selina Kyle having done something similar in a Return of The Joker sequel for cloning Bruce with eviler of like killing the other clones I think, which I'm glad they didn't do.
Given how the Epilogue episode ties right back into the very first Batman TAS episode and really the final two episodes were a cap off to the whole DCAU, sometimes I wish they just left Justice League show alone instead of coming up with the Legion of Doom/Darkside stuff in the following season.
Of course, on the Justice League cartoon and by proxy Unlimited shows I'm frankly not sure what on earth happened with the coloring job, but the blues looked like purple more often than not.
Frankly given the original JL promo art where Superman and Batman both had the original Superman the Animated Series alongside The New Batman Adventures designs, I wish they kept those instead.
Edit: I originally used an idea for Terry being Bruce/Selina's kid that she gave up for adoption that HRwriter897 came up with only I switched it back to the original Amanda Waller idea since as Stand with Ward and Queen pointed out that plan while interesting doesn't fit DCAU timeline.
Until next time.
