Daniel "Bell" Folten

2 miles from Duga-2 Radar Array, Khabarovsk Krai, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic

March 15, 1981

Bell backed out from the smoke as one of his fellow soldiers approached him.

"Here commander." The soviet said, tossing Bell an AK-47u and a comm set.

Bell looked up the straight road to see other reinforcements gunning down Mason and Woods, gunshots firing. His attention was turned when a man put a hand on his shoulder from behind.

"Welcome home Comrade." Perseus said, offering him a hand. He wore a black gas mask, not something he remembered seeing him wear. Bell shook his hand and smiled.

Bell had almost forgotten about the American soldiers Adler had gathered for this mission as they arrived in four jeeps.

"Go Comrade, we will take care of these capitalists. Find the American, kill him."

Bell nodded and as the smoke cleared he headed deep into the forest.

The sound of gunfire became fainter and fainter. Only the sounds of leaves crunching beneath his boots and the small sound of flowing water filled his ears. He began to follow the sound of the water, as he cautiously looked all around him for any sign of Park or Adler. As far as he was concerned the lives of Mason and Woods didn't matter as much to him as Adler's did. Russell Adler. That was a name that would forever be burned into his mind. When he found him, he was going to make sure that he saw Adler's body fall, and go limp, lifeless.

He approached the edge of the forest when he came across a flowing river, just like the one in Havana. He looked down the stream to see that it led to a waterfall a few feet away. By the sound of the crashing water, he assumed it was quite a drop. He began to get an odd feeling. He spun on his heel, scanning the area, trying to listen out for anything that moved. Suddenly a twig snapped as it tumbled down to his feet. Without hesitation he looked up aiming his gun at Adler, who jumped down from a tree branch, tackling Bell to the ground. Adler sprung up first, kicking Bell's AK away from him. Bell got to his feet quickly and charged Adler with a knife. Adler had little time to pull out his own knife when his legs were kicked out from underneath him as he fell on his back. Bell held down Adler's hand with one knee as he restrained the other with his free hand. He slowly brought the knife to Adler's face, reopening his scar. Blood poured from his face, onto Bell's knife and hand. Adler managed to squirm free, throwing Bell off of him. Bell decided to keep his revolver concealed behind his back, underneath his shirt for now. Letting Adler think all he had right now was a knife was going to give him an advantage. Bell circled his way around Adler until his back was longer facing the river.

"Drop the knife Bell!" Adler yelled, holding his own blade in hand now.

"No…" Bell chuckled. "You don't get to make the rules anymore Russ." He hissed. "There's no timeline in which you walk out of this alive."

"You could have actually done something with yourself kid." Adler scoffed.

"Not by siding with you. You would have just tossed my dead body somewhere in the ocean! I was never going to be part of the bigger picture was I?

Adler remained silent.

"Answer me!" Bell's hand began to quiver. He already knew the truth, Adler's silence said it all. "At least working with Perseus, I'll have a much clearer perspective. I'll be fighting for the side that isn't trying to harm the world, but heal it."

"What kind of- Bell! Don't you even recognize what kind of messed up logic Perseus has put into your head!"

"My head?! Your talking about what Perseus has put into my head? He isn't hiding nukes like you Americans are across the globe!"

"Those nukes were for defense, not offense! Don't you see the difference?" Adler matched his tone.

Before Bell could respond a throwing axe flew past him, creating a nasty cut across his side. As he fell to one knee, he put a hand to his wound. Blood covered his palm. Park came rushing at him with her own knife in hand. Ignoring the pain, he managed to get back up as he whipped out his revolver from underneath his shirt. Swiftly he hit her with the handle of the weapon, as she fell temporarily unconscious. He aimed the weapon at Adler before he could even think about going for Bell's fallen AK.

"Bell, we've got-'' He couldn't finish the phrase before a bullet was shot to his skull. Adler's body went limp as it crashed into the water. Bell followed Adler's body with his eyes until he saw the river take it over the edge, crashing who knows how far down.

"Good riddance." He hissed. He felt like a giant weight was lifted off his shoulders. A sigh overcame him.

"No ones surviving that." Park said from behind him.

He spun around aiming his weapon at her as she slowly got back to her feet, no weapon in hand.

"Dan-'' He cut her off.

"That's not my name." He said looking down his feet.

"They never told me your name. Lazar, Sims, we never knew your name. If anyone did it was Adler."

"And you want me to believe you? You're the one who helped Adler do this to me!"

"No, I don't expect you to." A moment of silence passed between them. "But you're making a mistake."

"No, I should have done this long ago. I realized how much of a fool I was to ever believe any of the lies I was told. He paused for a moment. "I was just an "asset" to you wasn't I?"

"I really did care for you." She said, guilty.

"I really wish I could believe you."

She slowly walked towards him.

"Sir are you alright? We heard gunfire." One of Perseus' men said over comms.

"My reinforcements are already on the way and in less than a few minutes you'll be surrounded. I can't stop them from shooting you."

Approaching him, she lowered the barrel of his revolver.

She took one of his hands in her own, looking him dead in the eyes as she placed her other hand on the side of his face. "I'm sorry, truly." That was all she managed to say. Even if it was tempting, deep down she knew if she ever swore allegiance by Bell's side that she would be a traitor against her own country, one she cared too much about to abandon, even for him. Someone needed to put an end to Perseus and his madness, once they regrouped that is. Joining him would mean letting her dear brother down. He made her promise that one day she would amount to something greater than he did, and she was not about to prove him wrong.

Seeing the look in her eyes he already knew she was never going to see things his way. She could have sworn she saw a tear shed from his eye. He put on a very stoic expression.

"Go." Bell muttered. They embraced in a quick hug. He let out a heavy sigh. Part of him hoped he'd never see her again. Opening his eyes he saw Mason and Woods charging towards them. "He lied to us!" Woods yelled. Without a thought Mason shot Bell in the back of his leg. He fell letting out a cry of pain. "Park! Leave him, we got enemies on our tail!" Mason said. She looked back and forth between Bell and Mason.

"Get out of here!" Bell said, holding the back of his leg. The three of them sprinted off, crossing the river. Bell watched as they left, noticing how none of them ever looked back. It seemed like a lifetime ago, but at one time he did love her, and she him. He didn't know if the same could be said anymore. "Goodbye." He muttered to himself."

Perseus and his soldiers came rushing to Bell's side. The soldiers made way as Perseus stepped through to Bell. He kneeled down to him. "Did you handle our loose ends?"

"I looked into their eyes as they were drained of life. He had a hint of green in his blue orbs, something I never noticed." Bell's voice was almost soothing. Part of him was shaken.

"And the bodies?" Perseus asked.

"The river took them."

"Good, those street dogs should have been put down long ago." Perseus stood up and removed his mask. "You remember my face don't you?" He said, helping Bell to his feet.

Bell tried not to put much weight on his hurt leg, but he managed. Perseus put an arm around him as he pulled out a radio. "Solovetsky, stand by for detonation order."

The man on the other end responded in a confirmation.

"I think you deserve this one comerade." Perseus handed Bell the radio.

Bell stared at the radio in his hand. He pressed the button on the side. "The West falls today and the new Soviet Era begins. Detonate the nukes."

"Yes sir." Solovetsky responded.

"I wish we could return to solovetsky to watch it all unfold, but that chapter is closed now. We begin the next one together. You did well." Perseus gave him a pat on the back.

"Thank you, sir." They both looked to the river.

"And to think, they still believed I'm Perseus." He chuckled. "As if Perseus could ever be one man working alone."

"So American." Bell said in disgust.

"We'll need a new home now. The Central Committee will be more surprised than the CIA. Even if we made the best choice for the future of our homeland." Perseus tapped Bell's chest. "Yet for humanity their eyes will be as clouded as ours once were. Come there is still much to be done." Perseus led everyone out of the forest and back to the vehicles.

"The flight back to Moscow won't be too long but we cannot leave that bullet in your leg and your wounds unattended." Perseus said to Bell as he was being loaded into one of the vans.

"Do the best you can, we'll patch the rest up once we reach base." Perseus was not talking to the three soldiers that were going to be riding in the back with Bell.

"You might want to hold him down." The man said to the other. Bell began to quiver with fear, after enduring Adler's interrogation, he didn't think he could handle doing this again. Not realizing his shoulder was dislocated, one of the soldiers restrained his arms behind his back as he forced Bell on his stomach. The two other men attended to Bell's bullet wound. One man sat on Bell's legs while the other sat beside his feet. They poured alcohol over the wound as Bell screamed.

"Keep him still!" One the men said!

The man restraining Bell's arms planted his knee down into Bell's back and his free hand onto his neck. His face was being shoved onto the hard, cold metal flooring of the van. He could feel every movement of the knife in his leg as they tried to remove the bullet. Tears of pain fell down his face. His eye had been agitating him ever since Adler put that needle through his socket, the tears mixed with the blood only made it worse.

"It is a deep one." The man said.

"We almost got it!"

The pain became enough to put him to sleep, something he desperately needed after these past few days. The last thing he felt before he lost consciousness was the heavy hand finally easing up on the back of his neck.

Authors Note: this chapter took much longer to write because I really wanted to get this right. I hope you enjoy this chapter. If theres something you'd like to see or just give feedback, feel free to leave a comment. Maybe one day I can come back and revise some of these chapter, almost like a remasterd thing. Since it's something I originally wanted to do I might write a chapter about the good ending where Bell is shot. It will be its own seperate story, and only about a chapter or two. It won't really tie into this story but its something I wanted to do. There might be one more chapter this week, if not then expect one next week. Also I did look at COD wiki and Bell is listed as a commander, just to clarify. From here out most things will not be cannon since this is after the main campaign storyline. Also I'm trying to understand military ranks and other stuff so bear with me.
