Febuwhump Day 10: Alternate Prompt 2: Trapped Under A Collapsed Building
Characters: Alan, Kayo, Virgil, John, EOS
Warnings: Collapsed building
Alan and Kayo had just managed to make it through to the first floor when John's shout came through. Kayo wasted no time in grabbing Alan and charging for the door, not even to acknowledge that they had heard.
They didn't make it before the building collapsed on top of them.
Alan woke up, disorientated. The first thought he had was 'pain' and the confusion of waking up somewhere he wasn't expecting. But it didn't take long for his brain to catch up.
'Kayo! Alan! Scott! Gordon! Anyone?'
'Ugh, John. I'm here.'
'Alan! Thank goodness! Virgil is almost through to you. Have you eyes on Kayo?'
Kayo? Oh god, he was with Kayo! Alan groaned as he tried to move. There was debris all around him, but he wasn't pinned and as he moved he freed himself enough he realised Kayo was still holding his hand.
'Kayo?' He shook his arm and was rewarded with Kayo's hand gripped harder. 'Kayo, I need you to wake up.' Alan almost whooped with joy when Kay groaned.
'Al? Wha happened?'
'Explosion. Are you hurt?'
'Um…I don't know.'
'John said Virgil's nearly here.'
As he said this they both became aware of the sound of debris shifting, and suddenly there was a chink of light. Kayo squeezed his wrist again and Alan smiled, even though he knew that no one could see it.
It didn't take Virgil long to shift the detritus and get to them. Alan reflected on the skill that his engineer brother had, getting them out of that building without bringing more building down on top of them.
Virgil ran the Medscanner over them both before he allowed them to move. Miraculously, they had no broken bones, no major injuries at all, just lots of bruising and minor cuts, although Kayo had a badly wrenched ankle.
Alan and Virgil helped Kayo out and the two sat down at the roadside watching Virgil getting ready to re-enter to find their two missing brothers. Alan couldn't believe that Virgil had managed to get them out of there.
'Virgil, stop.'
'John?'
'What is it, John?'
'I have no more life signs.'
There was a sharp intake of breath, and Alan couldn't tell who had breathed in as a wave of dizziness overtook him.
'What! How? How can there be no life signs, John!'
'They were in there when I shouted but their signals went out when the building blew.'
Alan closed his eyes as Virgil shouted. He knew his brother didn't mean it, but he needed to say something.
'Guys!'
'John, Virgil.'
'EOS?'
'I can confirm that Scott and Gordon's signals actually stopped just before the explosion.'
'Wait. What are you saying, EOS?'
'It appears that Scott and Gordon were not in the building when it exploded.'
'Then where the hell are they?'
