Prologue

"Are you sure about this?"

"I think it's time to return Tomo."

"Your return will change the tide, things will never be the same."

Nakano looked at her long time friend and manager. "The time is now."

Tomo Sighed, "As you wish, I will set up a meeting with Tokyo Jujutsu High as soon as possible."

"And you're sure that he's there?"

"Yes Nakano-sama."

Nakano turned from Tomo, knowing that she only used that honorific when she was serious. Her eyes spanned across the courtyard of their tiny academy, the leaves this time of year churn to different hues of yellows, reds, and oranges. "The students will be ready…they've been working so hard, they deserve a little field trip."

"Canada to Japan is not a little field trip…"

"But a necessary one at that. I want to take them to where it all began, to my homeland."

Looking over at the young sorcerer, Tomo wondered if she was ready to step into the world her family was torn from. The intergenerational trauma of the whole ordeal, regardless of whether it happened 600 years ago, will take its toll on the young 19-year-old. "Nakano, you are sure you want to do this now?" She asked one more time.

Nakano stripped her gaze from the warmth of the leaves to her hands, looking upon her gold-laced bracelet, the only piece of her family that had survived through the exile, "Yes."
