I'm stupid. A complete idiot. How could I screw up? I mean, I really should have seen this coming!
"Uno." Said Fate, her voice calm and cool. I just threw my last two cards onto the table, knowing there was no way to get around this. Now normally I would take this with sportsmanship-like grace but I had all my Snickers on this game!! I slumped back onto the couch and closed my eyes. This is all a dream, I'll just wake up and my snickers will be safely in my drawer.
"Come on Death, don't be like that. How about we do another round and you might be able to win them back?" Knowledge says but I could hear the doubt in her voice.
"Nuh, uh. Nope. Never again." I say opening my eyes.
"Aha!! I told you not to boast about winning. See? Karma got you!!" Beauty said, again trying to make me believe in her superstition.
"Oh my god, Beauty! How many times do I have to say this? We are deities!! There is no such thing as karma!!" Said Chaos, clearly annoyed with the whole thing.
"Exactly! We're deities. So who says karma can't be real too??" Destruction says, defending Beauty.
"Nope, we are not going to talk about this again. Last time you all were pranking each other nonstop. I just want some peace for once!" Life said, hoping nobody would go too deep into the karma stuff.
"Sure but does anybody else notice how Death is using this as a distraction to try and leave without us getting our cut?" Time says, pointing his finger at me who was halfway to the door. I slowly turned around to face the group, all of them smirking with their hands out. I just sigh and place my Snickers onto the table. They all grabbed their bunch but left a few for me; they were nice today because they knew how Snickers were my favorite.
"We should play more often. I won and owned you, Death!" Fate said happily as she tore off the candy wrapper. I just scoffed at that.
"You may have won but you don't own me, nobody does," I said as I reached out to get my second Snickers bar. Fate just stopped what she was doing and looked me straight in the eye with a small smile on her face. Everyone practically saw the gears turning in her head. I groaned as I put my head in my hands. The other deities just laughed softly. You should never tell Fate no.
Death finally came back to the manor where the other deities resided. Word of advice. He was pissed. He had gotten the souls for two of the three brothers but the last one just wouldn't die!! Let's just say a lot of things broke and he always double-checked for loopholes in contracts now.
The deities were all enjoying their breakfast especially because it was Knowledge's turn to cook. They all agree that you've never heard about heaven if you haven't eaten her pancakes. But of course, it was too peaceful."So Death. What do you think about kids?" Fate said so calmly it was weird. Death just looked at her in confusion but answered her question anyway. I mean, no harm there right?
"They're okay, I guess? Don't really pay much attention to them but it's always sad when I have to collect them." Death responded, not seeing the glint of mischief in Fate's eyes.
"Well, as long as you're okay with them you're fine." Fate said, making sure she sounded oblivious.
"Why are you asking?" Death said, his attention going back to his food.
"No reason." Fate said as she waited for the right moment, while Death was taking a sip of his orange juice.
"Just that, your child is being born right now." Fate said as she cut up her eggs. She heard a loud bang and looked up to see a mess. Death's orange juice was spilling over the table. He had spit out his juice in front of him and poor Chaos got it all. Let's just say if looks could kill, Death would be dead. Chaos has a big thing where nobody or nothing is allowed to touch his hair. Well, guess what happened to his hair? It was dripping with orange juice. Destruction, who was sitting next to Death, was standing up because his pants were now covered in syrup; Death had also dropped that in his shock. The other deities were trying not to laugh but they lost it when Death started muttering things.
"Who-how, but... Can't be. I haven't... It's been years since I've... Aren't their rules... Last time I... I thought we..." Death said in shock but his cheeks were red in embarrassment when he realized what he said in front of the others.
Forgotten were the hair and syrup as the deities were laughing so hard at Death. They, sadly, didn't notice how Fate was grinning as she still had more news to deliver.
"Oh, no. Nothing like that; though I don't think we need to know about your life." Fate said with a smirk as the other deities lost the last bit of composure they had. "Besides, if it was that way then she couldn't be everyone else's kid as well." Fate said and everyone immediately stopped laughing and there were collective groans.
"Damit Fate! Why'd you have to bring us into this!?" Destruction complained as Death smirked at the others.
"Well, it wasn't really my choice." Fate explained as the confused looks on the other's faces disappeared. Only one person could make them do whatever they wanted, so it must have meant Fate got an order from the boss.
"I wasn't really going to give you a master Death, I just wanted to scare you a bit but I got a call and God wanted it to happen. At first, I thought it was just Death, but he said he wanted us all to have a master. Next thing you know I made it happen, though I can't really remember all the details because I have to be in a daze to work. So yeah, any questions?" Fate asked as she looked around. The deities had looks of understanding on their faces, they knew Fate couldn't have told them anything until after the job was done if it was an order.
"Now that that is out, would you guys like to meet her? She should be coming into the world in about one minute." Fate said as she made her way to the viewing room, the others following her.It was a room that looked like it was connected to the oceans. The room was always surrounded by calming colors of light blues, purples, pinks, blacks, greys, and whites. Though those colors may not sound calming, when you see them you'll know. The deities use this room to watch over the worlds they have. To view them, you must get into a small boat, though it's actually roomy, and just wait for the water to guide you to wherever you are trying to watch. So that's what they did.The deities all got into the boat after Fate and made their way to the left side of the water. There they all peered over the edge to see the birth of their little master.
"Come on Lily! Just one more push!" James said, trying to soothe his wife who was currently in labor.
"I swear if we have another kid I'm going to make you give birth to them!!" Lily yelled back at her husband as the grip on his hand became tighter.
James just chuckled because he knew Lily was in too much pain to understand what she had said.
Not even a few seconds after, with the help of a medi-witch, Lily gave birth to a small girl. James would have gone with the medi-witch to see his daughter but he knew that Lily was having twins, so he wanted to wait for his other child. Seven Minutes. Their kids were exactly seven minutes apart. Right now, James was by Lily's side, helping her take some potions and eat a bit of food. It was then that a knock was heard at the door. Once James gave the okay for the people to enter, the door opened to a big black dog walking in with a basket full of stuffed animals hanging by its mouth.Behind the dog walked in a man with light brown hair, a sandy skin tone with light green eyes that mix with blue. This man was Remus Lupin, soon to be, Black. Behind him was the Malfoy family, Lucius guiding his wife Narcissa who was carrying her child in a bundle, the child's name was Draco.{a/n: yes i know the malfoys are with voldemort but here the potters, along with the blacks, are grey and aren't really fighting in the war. they're mainly just helping the injured and stuff like that}
Following them was a happy-looking Xenophilius with Pandora as he held his child, Luna Lovegood.Lastly, Frank and Alice Longbottom came in with their newborn baby boy, Neville, who was only born yesterday. They were all conversing when two med-witches came into the room, both of them carrying a small bundle.
"Mr. and Mrs.Potter, we are proud to say you are parents to a healthy boy and girl." One of the medi-witches said as they handed Lily the boy and James the girl. The two held their newborns and looked at them together. The boy looked just like James. His hair was the same jet black and had gotten the gene of being able to defy gravity. Though he had Lily's freckles scattered over his face. He then opened his eyes and the two gasped. He had bright green eyes, Lily's eyes, though they were a bit dim due to the bits of brown in them. He was definitely their child, but the girl. . .
Her hair was the darkest of blacks, but it was soft and smooth. Her skin tone was surprisingly lighter than Lily's, contrasting with her dark hair but it worked. Her lashes were long and thick and she had little baby fat. Her cheeks had a natural rosiness to them and her nose was basically perfect. When she opened her eyes, the pair gasped again. They were a cold but clear grey. Though it was little, there were tiny green specks in them as well, it was really the only indication that she was their child.
"James, Lily. What's wrong?" Remus asked. He was concerned, as was everyone else. They hadn't seen the children, only Lily and James's reaction to them.
"Nothing's wrong Moony," James said but they could hear the bit of doubt in his voice,
"it's just that he looks exactly like me and Lily," He said as he turned the boy around for all of them to see, and yes, he looked like them,
"But she..." James trailed off, not knowing how to explain to them the situation. He just turned the girl around and they all had the same reaction as they did, gasping at her. She looked nothing like the two.Everyone else gasping had gotten his attention. As he was a dog, he wasn't tall enough to see so he turned back. Everyone was too focused on the children so when Sirius turned back, they were a bit spooked.Sirius could only see the boy as James was blocking the view of the girl.
"Will you look at that! We've got mini Prongs now!!" Sirius had said cheerfully as he took the boy out of James' hands. The boy just looked at him in wonder and let out a small squealing sound as Sirius lifted him into the air.It was at that moment, with the boy in the air, that Sirius looked at the other child Lily was holding and he froze, bringing the boy down slowly. He gave the kid to James and held out his arms for Lily to pass him the girl.He held her out in front of him and looked her over. He didn't linger on her eyes though; they reminded him too much of the people who raised him. He noticed how they seemed to be glaring at him but that couldn't be, she was just a child. Still, her eyes could shake the underworld from how cold they looked. This thought brought him an idea.
"Well Prongs, guess you've got a rebel and a badass in your family now," Sirius said finally, after a minute of looking at the girl.
"What do you mean, Padfoot?" James responded, bringing everyone out of their small daze.
"Isn't it obvious? The boy has mischief in his eyes so he's a rebel while the girl looks like she could kill you with a glare, that seems pretty badass to me, right?" Sirius explained while looking at the others, picking up his god-son to hold both children on his hip. This seemed to calm everyone down and pick up the exciting atmosphere they had when they first came in. Once they had sorted through the fact that Sirius was right, they all joked about how the two children would get along and wreak havoc on the two parents; they had also given Sirius a good talking to for semi-swearing in front of the kids. They were stopped when one of the medi-witches came into the room with two pieces of paper and a quill.
"Have you decided on a name for the children yet?" She asked James and Lily who looked at each other with small smiles on their faces.
"For the boy, we've been thinking, Harrison James Potter," Lily said to the nurse, who wrote it down for the bottom paper.
"We had a name for the girl but well, I don't think it'll suit her," James said, rubbing his neck in embarrassment that they hadn't thought this through.
"I think," Sirius said as he looked at the girl on his hip, "a badass girl deserves a badass name, no?" He asked as he looked around the room, ignoring the looks he got from the mothers at his language.
"So what about Persephone as a first name? I don't really have a middle name for her." Sirius asked James, who just looked at Lily before he nodded yes.
"It's perfect," Lily said while stretching her arms out as Sirius handed her the girl,.
"We actually have a middle name that works with it." She turned the girl around and held her out so everyone in the room could see her.
"Everyone, say hello to Persephone Adelaide Potter."
They never said it, but the thought lingered in the air
She was going to be strong
The only question was
How was she going to use her strengths?
That is what made the others tremble in fear
