Three years later
Location: Southern watertribe
Knock, Knock
Knock, Knock
"Katara"
Katara groaned and dug her head deeper into her pillow when she heard Sokka's annoying voice behind her door.
...
Knock, Knock
"Katara!"
Cursing under her breath, the waterbender reluctantly got up from her bed and opened the door with an exasperated sigh.
"What do you want Sokka?" She asked, rubbing her eye.
"You do know that the meeting with the world leaders starts in two hours right?" Sokka replied, leaning against the wall arms crossed over his chest.
"Yes i know, thank you for waking me up to remind me about the meeting that you've already mentioned atleast fifteen times this week Sokka" She stated dryly, rolling her eyes
"It's a really important meeting" He shrugged, unapolagetic
"Fine, i'll make sure to be there in time" She told him and closed the door before he could say anything else.
Katara had moved to her own house a few months ago. It was still in the Southern Tribe, but it was in a more quiet area of the city, giving her the privacy, she had needed, especially when Sokka and Suki moved in together. She dressed quickly and warmly, rushing to pull her hair back into a braid and tucking it into her coat.
She decided to go out and practice for a little bit before the meeting started. She made her way slightly outside of town and went right into her practiced movements, starting with the push and the pull. She was focusing on a new waterbending trick Pakku had showed her, drawing water out of thin air. It was difficult, she was able to pull a small amount of water but not much, it was challenging, that was a good thing though, it kept her mind busy, which kept her out of the dark place she fell into after Aang left her.
She swallowed hard. Its been about three years now since Aang left her, and disappeared from the world. The first year was hard, she missed him so much she could barely bring herself to get out of bed. She didn't have any energy to do anything. Without Aang life was dull. Just like it was before meeting the airbender. He brought happiness and excitement into her life, with Aang things never got boring. She missed him so much, but with the help of his brother, Suki and the rest of the gaang, the pain lessened. Even though it was still there she was.. managing.
One thing she regrets greatly is not confessing her true feelings to Aang before he left, if she did he probably would have changed his mind about leaving them, leaving her. She shook her head and wiped off the tears that had slid down her face.
oOo
Katara tried to conceal her heavy sigh from the other occupants of the room. She was in the waiting room, in one of the halls of the Water palace, readying herself for the first meeting of the Four Nations Council in the Southern watertribe, which she would be attending along her brother.
"Katara!" a voice interrupted her thoughts. Looking up, Katara felt a geniune smile bloom on her face when she saw who it was.
"Suki?"
Suki embraced Katara in a hug. The two have gotten a lot closer in the past three years. Whenever Katara was feeling down, Suki tried her best to cheer her up and make her not think about Aang. The Kyoshi Warrior had just come back from her trip to Kyoshi Island. She will be attending the meeting with her and Sokka.
Suki pulled away from the hug slightly to look at the waterbender.
"How are you doing Kat?" She asked quietly, eyebrows furrowed in concern.
"I'm doing better" She replied honestly, a small smile on her face
Suki grinned and opened her mouth to say something but a loud gong sounded throughout the room, drawing the attention of the crowd. A young man, stood by the door to the meeting room.
"Chief Hakoda is requesting for all the Council members to take their seats" His voice called through the room and as a mass everyone began to move forward, conversations coming to a halt as they moved into the room.
oOo
"Thank you, thank you," Chief Hakoda's voice cut through the murmur of the assembled group as he stood, standing tall, his voice gruff as he addressed the room. "Thank you for joining me today. It is a great honor to stand here with you all"
Katara shifted slightly in her seat, she was seated next to her brother, and felt lost as her father continued listing hundreds of different area's that needed covered. Katara got lost in her thoughts once again.
The waterbender couldn't contain her sigh of relief when her father's proclamation rang out through the room, however, before anyone could stand up, the lights suddenly went out. The room went completely dark. Everyone tried to figure out what was going on. None of them had expected anything like this to happen.
After a few moments of standing in the dark, one of the firebenders finally had enough sense to light his hands on fire, using them to look around. At first he could see nothing but a few of his friends next to him, however after a minute of looking around, he became worried as he saw unconscious guards on the ground. He shone some light around and looked for some candles to light, just as he found some and was about to lit them up, he went completely still, and dropped to the ground unmoving.
"Trespassers!" a man cried as he watched the firebender's body flop to the ground, making them all panic, Katara and Sokka moved back to back and tried to use the small amount of light the firebender managed to get before he had been taken down, and listened for the sound of the attackers. Katara quickly pulled as much water she could out of thin air and formed two water gauntlets, whilst Sokka unsheated his sword that he always kept on him.
Another Firebender quickly lit the rest of the room, allowing them all to see their enemies.
Only to wish they hadn't..
Nearly half of the people in the room were slaughtered, their bodies lay unmoving on the cold floor, throats slit, blood staining every inch of the floor. She would have noticed a bright red glow come from behind her, from the corner of her eye, had she not been paralyzed with fear, and too stunned to even speak. Before she could scream or do anything, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and her vision went dark.
Yeah... I don't know how to feel about this chapter. It was a bit short and i'm not too happy how it turned out. I hope you guys like it though.
Much love,
