Disclaimer: I do not own The Mr. Men Show or any of its characters, but I do own Emily/Little Miss Music.
They stopped by Mr. Grumpy's house. While the blue Mr. Man unpacked his things, Emilly took a look around, excited about seeing her Senpai's place in person for the first time ever. She followed him inside and stood by the door until he was ready to go. As she waited, her mind raced with so many thoughts.
This looks exactly like it does on the show, which makes sense. I really didn't expect anything different. It's just really cool to see it all for real instead of just on a screen!
Then the voice spoke in her head, telling her that she didn't deserve to be happy. It said that soon Mr. Grumpy will figure out that she isn't good enough for him and will never want to see her again.
Oh God, please stop the voice from saying such things! I need Your help, God! Without It, I can do nothing...
She looked up at the sound of footsteps and she quickly pushed the voice away as Mr. Grumpy came to a halt in front of her. "All done," he announced. Then he walked out of his house, gesturing for her to follow him, and he closed the door behind them. "Are you hungry?" he asked her as they walked back to his car.
Usually when someone asked her if she was hungry, her first instinct would be to say no, whether it was true or not. But just the thought of food was making her lightheaded and she suddenly remembered that she hasn't eaten since early yesterday morning. "Actually, I am." This time she decided to be honest; she didn't want to lie to her Senpai.
He gave a curt nod and climbed into his car. She got in the car, too. Starting the engine, he pulled away from his house. They drove in silence and all the while the voice taunted her in her head, convincing her that she would do something stupid in front of the Mr. Man she had feelings for. Not able to take the voice sneering at her, she finally decided to speak. This might be her only chance to spend time with her Senpai. She knew she had to return to her world eventually, but while she was here, she was going to enjoy it as much as possible and hopefully drown out the relentless voice in her head.
"So," she started uncertainty, and he glanced at her while keeping an eye on the road. What should I say? she thought desperately. "Er… do you like living here?"
"It's okay, I guess. Once you get over all the dodo birds who get on my nerves," he quickly added, sounding slightly annoyed. Then he relaxed and asked," Where are you from?"
Alarm shot through Emily. "Oh… um… Far, far away from here. I'm visiting Miss. Calamity. Anyways," she went on before her Senpai could question her anymore," you said you like fishing? Do you go out often?"
"Whenever I have the time," he answered. "And if people are really bugging me, I make the time, even if it means doing some ice fishing."
Emily frowned. "You really don't like people, do you? I can relate to that." When he glanced at her again, she explained," Where I live, there's some really annoying people—either annoying people or people who hurt me…" He opened his mouth as if to ask what happened, but she quickly went on before he could. "I'd rather lock myself in my room and listen to music instead of going out and interacting with people. But everyone here seems really nice— well everyone I've met so far." She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, wishing so badly that he knew how special he was to her.
"If you hate it there so much, why not move?" Mr. Grumpy suggested, and she stared at him before turning back to look out the window.
There's many reasons, she thought. I don't have money; I wouldn't know where to live; and if I did move, I'd have to talk to people instead of relying on my mom or Nikki to do that for me.
The voice was just saying how pathetic she was when a new voice spoke in her head, a much kinder voice. Why not move to Dillydale? it said.
Move to Dillydale? She couldn't do that! Could she? This was her dream world, and usually she was so shy and hated talking to people, but since she stumbled through that portal, she's actually been looking forward to meeting all the characters and getting to know them better. She found it easy to talk to them, including her Senpai. Yeah, she was awkward around him, but that was just her personality no matter what world she was in. She still said more words to him than she's said to her family in weeks.
Move to Dillydale, she thought. I just don't know… Can I really just never return to my world? Is that what You want, God? What about my parents and brothers? What about Nikki? Surely they're worried sick about me right now…
She was knocked out of her thoughts by Mr. Grumpy. "We're here," he announced, and suddenly Emily realized that they were parked in front of a restaurant.
They got out of the car and went inside; they were almost immediately seen to a table. Emily was looking over a menu when someone appeared beside them. She looked up and saw Mr. Scatterbrain standing there with a pen and a notepad.
"Hello, Mr. Grumpy," he greeted the blue Mr. Man, smiling at him, and Emily thought back to all the times Mr. Scatterbrain had been Mr. Grumpy's waiter. Suddenly she felt like a real part of the show, and joy rose in her. Then Mr. Scatterbrain turned to her. "I met you earlier, didn't I? Miss…" His voice trailed off, his eyes sparkling with confusion.
"Music," Emily told him, giggling under her breath. She always found him adorable and knew she could never be upset with him no matter how scatterbrained he was.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mr. Grumpy glance away, letting out an annoyed groan. A moment later, he snapped his gaze back to Mr. Scatterbrain. "Wait, what are you doing here?" he asked. "Shouldn't you be home?" he went on when the magenta Mr. Man looked confused. "I thought Mr. Nosy and Mr. Small were supposed to be helping you with something?"
Alarm shot through Emily. Oh no!
"Were they? Are they? I don't remember…" Mr. Scatterbrain was tripping over his own words as if he thought he missed something important.
"Maybe they finished sooner than expected," Emily quickly spoke up. The best friends only told Mr. Grumpy that they were helping Mr. Scatterbrain so he would agree to show her around Dillydale; the blue Mr. Man didn't know about her feelings toward him or that she wasn't from this world. But now their plan was falling apart. She needed to think fast before Mr. Grumpy started to suspect that something was up.
But it was so hard to think with the voice snarling in her head, mocking and insulting her, telling her that now Mr. Grumpy will want nothing to do with her because she lied to him.
Help me, God!
Suddenly calmness washed over her and she picked up her menu. "So, Mr. Grumpy," she started, looking up. "What do you recommend I get here? I've never had any of this. What's good?"
Mr. Grumpy eyed the magenta Mr. Man for another moment. Then he turned to Emily. "There's a few good things here," he replied, and she was glad to see that she had distracted him. Hopefully he never realized the friends had told him a lie or at the very least, didn't care enough to push the subject. "Spaghetti and beanballs; Bean loft; Bean burger."
Hmm, I've always wanted to try a bean burger. Turning back to Mr. Scatterbrain, she asked," Can I please have a bean burger?"
"Make that two bean burgers," Mr. Grumpy added, and they handed the menus to Mr. Scatterbrain.
Now it was just the two of them— Mr. Scatterbrain ran off to give their order to the cook; hopefully the right order, Emily thought with slight amusement. Then the voice spoke in her head, reminding her how useless she was and that Mr. Grumpy would never love her back, and she sighed softly.
"You're new here so you don't know what he's like." The blue Mr. Man pointed toward the kitchen, where Mr. Scatterbrain had disappeared through double doors. "He's going to bring us the wrong order."
Emily looked at him. "Miss. Calamity gave me a heads up about a few things," she responded. She couldn't tell him how she really knew Mr. Scatterbrain, but she could at least acknowledge that she did know him a little. "Try to give him some credit. He doesn't seem that bad."
Mr. Grumpy opened his mouth as if to argue, but suddenly Mr. Scatterbrain returned, carrying two plates which he set down in front of them. Emily looked down to see a bowl of soup instead of a burger, and the forgetful Mr. Man had given a bunch of baby carrots to Mr. Grumpy. He picked one up and studied it before turning to look at Emily.
"Told you," he muttered. His eyes flashed with annoyance as he snapped his head around to glare at Mr. Scatterbrain. "This is not what we ordered!"
Mr. Scatterbrain blinked, looking confused. "It isn't?" He glanced at Emily as if wanting confirmation. Frowning, she agreed with her Senpai and hurriedly apologized to the magenta Mr. Man, though she didn't really know why. It was just a habitat of hers, always saying sorry even if it's not required.
"Okay, I'll be right back with your right order," the scatterbrained Mr. Man promised as he picked up the plates and ran off again.
"No, he won't," Mr. Grumpy sighed. "We'd be better off going to a different restaurant or just making lunch ourselves." He looked very annoyed, and Emily didn't like that. She wanted to make him laugh or smile, but before she could, Mr. Scatterbrain came back.
"Here you go." He set the plates down in front of them again; of course it wasn't what they ordered, but Emily's stomach growled with eagerness when she saw what it was.
French toast! She had been looking forward to trying a bean burger for the first time but she thought French toast beats a burger any day.
She looked up to see Mr. Grumpy glaring at Mr. Scatterbrain, and she realized he was going to tell Mr. Scatterbrain that he brought the wrong order again! Quickly Emily shook her head and spoke to Mr. Scatterbrain. "This is great. Thank you," she told him.
The magenta Mr. Man smiled at her, seeming happy that for once he got something right. Then he went off to wait on another table. Emily let out a sigh of relief and started eating her lunch.
"Why did you do that?" Mr. Grumpy demanded.
Emily frowned. "I'm sorry, but I really like french toast. D-Do you not like it? I'm sorry…" Oh, God, what have I done? Why didn't she put her Senpai's feelings into consideration before she sent Mr. Scatterbrain away. He ordered a bean burger, so of course he wanted a bean burger.
To her surprise, Mr. Grumpy sighed and muttered," It's fine. Let's just eat."
"Okay."
After lunch, they returned to Mr. Grumpy's car, and he drove her around, showing her where the movie theater was, the supermarket, and a bunch of other smaller stores. When she spotted the hobby shop up ahead, she asked if they could go look inside.
He agreed and pulled into the parking lot. She hopped out of the car and ran inside, noticing that he followed more slowly. She immediately realized that this had to be Mr. Scatterbrain's store, but since he was working as a waiter at a restaurant today, he wasn't here. Instead someone else stood behind the counter.
The blue Little Miss with glasses smiled at Emily and waved her hand in greeting. "Hello there," she said in her nasally voice.
Emily waved back. "Hello."
Just then Mr. Grumpy joined them. "Miss. Whoops?" He seemed surprised to see her. "What are you doing here?"
"Mr. Scatterbrain asked me to watch his store while he's working somewhere else today."
Emily was distracted from their conversation when she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. She walked over there and stared up at the guitar in its case on the wall. It was a beautiful orange color, and Emily could just imagine herself playing it. She's never owned one, but she learned how to play on Nikki's old one and even taught herself a few songs by her favorite bands.
If only I had money…
Dream on! the voice snarled at her. You'll never own that!
"Do you like that guitar?"
She jumped and turned to see Little Miss Whoops standing behind her. "Yeah," the former human replied. "I love playing the guitar, but I've never owned one. I'd get that one," she added, gesturing to the orange guitar. "But I don't have any money…"
Little Miss Whoops nodded in understanding. Before either of the Little Misses could say more, Mr. Grumpy walked over to them. "Come on," he said to Emily. "There's still one more place I want to show you before it gets too late."
"Okay, Mr. Grumpy." Emily turned to Little Miss Whoops. "It was nice meeting you. Bye." She started following her Senpai to the door of the hobby shop, but the blue Little Miss called her back, and Emily looked at her, confused.
"You never said your name," Little Miss Whoops pointed out.
"Oh. It's Miss. Music."
"I'm Miss. Whoops."
They shook hands, then said goodbye, and Emily followed Mr. Grumpy out the door, excitement rising in her as she wondered where he wanted to take her.
