Sat in the cab of the ambulance, Iain was in the drivers side waiting on the new boss to come back from the shop. He looks to his phone seeing a photo from Jeff. He replies back to it just as the passenger door opens. He shoves his phone back into his pocket looking to Comfort who climbs in. She closes her door looking to him.
"You can be on your phone you know. I'm not going to tell you off for going on it." She pulls her own phone from her pocket. "I've got mine on me. I'm not that strict." She smiles handing Iain some of the food items over. "I guessed what you probably like, sorry if I've gotten it totally wrong." She looks to him then to her own food. Iain looks at her then down to the food that she'd chucked onto his lap. Had the boss just bought him food… that he'd not even asked her to get or hinted at? He wasn't complaining, he was starving already. They'd been to a few calls but nothing exciting but it was coming up to lunch time now and it was starting to show. He looks back to the food in his lap to see what she'd picked up. A BLT sandwich, a hotdog, two packets of crisps, a few chocolate bars along with a big cup of coffee. She'd done well! He looks over to her array of food which was quite different to his. "How did I do? Do you want something else?" She looks at him chewing her lip a little.
Iain looks to his hotdog picking it up opening it up seeing she'd even chucked sauces on it. "Nah." He looks over to her. "To say you don't know meh, you've done well. Not even Jeff gets it right half the time." Comfort smiles to him she looked almost relieved. "You don't do things by halves either, do ya?" He looks at the food in the cab, he'd never seen so much in here before.
Comfort shakes her head. "No point in just getting little bits. You always end up needing or wanting more. Fuck that." She shrugs it off. Iain stifles a laugh as he bites into the hotdog. "Nobody has time for that." Comfort opens her cheese salad sandwich up, taking a bite. They fall silent for the moment whilst they eat, making it worth while to eat now it was silence over the radio. Iain sits there pulling his phone back out replying back to Jeff taking a photo of the picnic the new boss has bought him. He sends it over to Jeff who replies back with a shocked emoji. He puts his phone on the dashboard finishing off the kebab, wiping his saucy fingers on one of the napkins. He looks over to Comfort who was on her phone typing away.
"So, why you back on Holby?" He leans against the door turning his body slightly looking to Comfort. She finishes typing sending the message then looks over to him finishing off her sandwich.
"Life changed. Circumstances changed. I needed to move away. I saw the job come up here and thought I ain't got anything to miss out on." She shrugs, sort of matter of fact. Iain nods, folding his arms over his chest. "I probably won't stay for long, this contract is only temporary anyway."
Iain looks at her not impressed. "What? I thought you were meant to be permanent?" He pulls a face. "What's the point in a temp boss? We need someone here to stay, not just keep coming and going." He shuffles in the seat.
Comfort shrugs a little. "Basically if I get the targets up for the station then I have hope of staying. You'll all be asked at some point what you think of me, if them up high ain't happy. I ain't stayin'." She raises her eyebrows, pressing her lips together breathing in letting out a sigh. "So then it'll be goodbye Comfort and hello new boss, again."
Iain scrunches his face up. "Bit shit." He reaches for his coffee, taking a sip. She'd even got this right. In his eyes she was a keeper already. She seemed alright so far but she clearly had some deep dark secrets behind what seemed to be quite a cheery exterior. Even after he'd insulted her. "Well… I hope you stay. You seem alright already."
Comfort looks to him sipping her water from her flask. "What even after you called me fat?" She looks to him over her flask an eyebrow raised. Iain licks his lips sitting there, he nods a bit.
"Ahh… well I didn't technically call you fat… I said…" he shuts up as Comfort puts a hand up.
"I'm winding ya up." She looks at him. "I know you didn't call me fat…" she looks down to herself. "As if anyone would call me fat. I'm as svelte as a marble statue me." She nods putting her flask down looking back to him. Iain looks at her not entirely knowing what to say without it sounding like he was checking her out. Luckily for him, the radio goes off interrupting the conversation. "Looks like you've been saved." Comfort looks at him her eyebrow raised a little with a little smile on her lips. She reaches over for the radio. "3001 to control go ahead."
"Ahh hello 3001, nice to meet you finally, hope your shift has been good so far. We've got a call for welfare. Address being sent over to you now. Caller hung up before we got chance to ask any questions, sounded elderly though. Can you just go and check everything is OK?"
"Yeah sure… nice to meet you to." Comfort replies back putting the radio down pressing the screen for the onboard computer. She looks to it reading the address to Iain who turns the engine back on. "Should be a simple job." She looks at Iain who nods in agreement.
Around ten minutes later they arrive at the address. They look around to the unkept house in front of them. Comfort unclips her seatbelt looking around, she leans forward looking around. She wasn't entirely happy. Iain looks across at her turning the engine off.
"We getting out or we staying in here?" He opens his door, Comfort looks at him.
"Staying here until police turn up." She looks to him. Gone had the talkative Comfort, boss Comfort had shown up. Iain looks at her he raises an eyebrow.
"It's just an unkept house. If they're elderly, then they're hardly gonna come out doing the garden are they?" He looks back at her opening his door again. "You stay here… I'll go in scout it out and if I need ya, I'll radio up." He slips out of the cab. Comfort raises an eyebrow.
"Errr… hang on who's the boss here?" She looks to him. "Not you. Get your arse back in that seat and wait for police." She licks her lips looking around the place. Iain stands at his door holding the door open still he looks around, he didn't see what her problem is.
"I'll be two minutes." He looks to her before slamming the door heading off. Comfort opens her mouth looking to him, she opens her door.
"Iain! IAIN!" She shouts after him but he continues to walk. She tuts, kissing her teeth watching him walking off. She sits back in the cab, radioing for police back up. The only problem was, there was no signal. She pulls a face looking to the on board radio, managing to get something out on that, but whether it was heard she couldn't tell. She looks back to the house, she looks to her phone realising she didn't even have Iain's number. She then sees his phone still on the dashboard. "Bollocks." She tuts looking back to the house, chewing her lip. She climbs out of her seat, climbing into the back rummaging in the cupboards. Climbing out of the back she looks to the house making her way towards it. She shakes her head a little bit, something wasn't right.
She walks gingerly towards the house looking around. She licks her lips breathing in slowly she was a bit worried something was going to happen. She pushes the door open. It squeaks as she does so. Stepping in she looks around breathing in slowly to keep her nerves. Usually she wasn't too bothered but when she was in charge and had a team member to look after it was a bit nerve wracking. She looks around stepping around slowly, worried the house was rigged. She walks along looking around, mainly looking for Iain to drag him out and get them out! She walks along. The wind outside was getting up a bit, it squeaks the front door. It slams shut. Comfort puts her hand on her chest, if she wasn't scared before she was now. She swallows looking around then sees the stairs. She holds onto the banister making her way up, the floor boards creaking underneath her weight. She walks up looking around staying quiet although she wanted to call Iain's name out. She peers into the rooms slowly. She then hears someone.
"Iain..?" She calls out softly. She walks along jumping back as a spider web lands in her face, a large spider falling down with it. She bats it away breathing in, she hated spiders and having one land on her was a nightmare in itself. "Iain…" she calls out again.
"In 'ere!" He calls out. Comfort follows his voice walking into one of the rooms. She looks around seeing him knelt down by someone. She walks in quickly as he looks up. "I tried radioing you."
"There's no service…" she looks at him. "I say we scoop and go?" She looks around then back to the Casualty on the floor. Iain looks to them then nods.
"You ain't going anywhere." A voice comes from the door behind Iain and comfort. Comfort turns around looking to the door seeing a figure dressed all in black, along with a few others behind them. Iain remains knelt down looking to the casualty, he then turns looking to see them. Comfort breathes in, her suspicions had been right something wasn't right here. She stays stood still where she is, keeping Iain behind her. "You got drugs on you?"
Comfort shakes her head. "They're in the ambulance outside." She looks to him standing there. Iain slowly stands up.
"Keep still!" The male at the front holds his arm up, pointing s gun at the both of then.
"Okay.. okay… I was just going to stand up." Iain stands himself up holding his hands up as he does so they could see he had nothing in them. The male keeps the gun pointed at them both watching, letting iain stand up. Iain stands behind Comfort to the side of her, he wanted to get in front of her though to protect her. What sort of man would let a woman take a shot for them? He wasn't in the army now, he was in civvy street, not everyone was equal when it came to something like this. Comfort remains in front though not moving.
"I imagine you've plenty of drugs in here somewhere." She looks to the males stood there. "I imagine this is your trap house or something?" She looks to them all individually knowing it was making them uncomfortable.
"You seem to know a lot, paramedic." The male at the front looks at her. "Bit odd for a paramedic to know so much." He looks at her tilting his head. "You ain't an undercover copper are you?"
Comfort laughs. "fuck no." She shakes her head as she stands there. She didn't particularly want to say too much because of Iain being here. She didn't want him thinking ill of her but if it kept them from being hurt she'd make something up… or keep it truthful. "No I ain't no undercover cop. With my track record, that would never work out." She looks to them. "Let's just say… I ain't been a paramedic all my life." She shifts a bit on her feet. "Now, I know you've got a hidden agenda for calling us here so what is it? If it ain't anything we're going. We won't grass you up. However the longer you keep us away from being able to contact anyone the more suspicious our control are gonna get." She slips her hands into her pockets. The male looks at her not too sure whether she was telling the truth or not. He looks to Iain knowing he wasn't, he was too silent to be one. He looks back to comfort deciding she wasn't but she did seem to know a lot. He walks over to them both.
"We needed hostages for a little something we got going on. What better than two paramedics." He looks at them both holding the gun at them both.
Iain breathes in looking to it, he'd seen plenty of guns in his time. It didn't faze him much but when now he wasn't in the army sometimes it was a little different. He glances to Comfort in front of him, she wasn't budging neither was she intimidated. He was beginning to question whether what she was saying was true. What was her background? She did seem to know a lot. Had she been a cop before? Or was her background darker then he thought? He shakes it from his thoughts looking to the male holding the gun.
"A female paramedic as well even better." He looks to comfort to Iain. "You don't seem to know much."
Iain shakes his head. "Nah mate. Not my scene." He scrunches his face up. Seeing his mum ruining her life with alcohol was enough, he didn't want to be in the depths of drugs and drink. "Ruins ya life this crap does, see it all the time in this job." He remarks seeing the look on Comfort's face. He was wondering whether this was a bit close to home for her for some reason. Now wasn't the time to question it though. "If you just what drugs, we'll go to the ambulance give you what we've got and then we can go yeah?"
The male shakes his head. "Not so fast paramedic." He looks at him. "You ain't getting away that easily." He points the gun at Comfort. "Come on move he grabs her shirt making her walk, waving the gun to Iain to follow her. They head downstairs being followed by the gang. Half of the gang walk in front of them heading by outside and to the ambulance. "Right get your kit. We're going on a journey." He looks to them. Comfort and Iain look to him. "Actually do you know what we'll use the ambulance. Them idiots won't be expecting it. Go on. Get in." He walks along. "You can drive." He looks at Comfort who nods. Iain goes to walk to the back assuming the male will want to sit in the front. "No you can sit in the front with her. Make it look normal. This is where we're going." He shoves an address to Iain as he and two others get in the back of the ambulance. Comfort and Iain glands to one another climbing in the front of the ambulance. Comfort starts the ambulance up putting her seatbelt on, Iain clips his on. She looks to the address then sets off. She'd already set the alarm button off before she'd gone inside she hoped that once they got into somewhere with a signal which wouldn't be too long, help would be on its way.
Comfort drives along to the address hoping now that they were out in the open the signal to say there were in danger had gotten out. She glances to Iain who was sat looking out the windscreen. She didn't know his background, like he didn't know hers but she hoped he could hold his own if they were separated. She licks her lips chewing her bottom lip slightly as they remain in silence. Iain looks around to where they're going then to the onboard computer, he glances to the back seeing none of the gang were watching. He moves the computer towards him, quickly typing a message in to control to say they were in being held hostage before turning it off knowing that it would still be visible to track. He leans back in his seat glancing to Comfort who had seen what he was doing, she doesn't do anything she just keeps driving.
Finally pulling up at the warehouse, turning the engine off she looks around the place. The male pokes his head though the front seeing they were at the destination, he opens the side door letting the others out, he points the gun to Comfort and Iain to get out. They climb out of the cab walking around standing together not leaving each others sides. They may not know each other but when anything happened the team stuck together. Iain already liked Comfort, she clearly had a logical brain on her and also knew about this sort of stuff. How she knew about it he wasn't sure he wanted to know.
"Move!" The male points the gun to them both making them walk. Comfort walks along taking the lead, her hands in her trouser pockets walking along like she didn't care. Iain walks behind her having a feeling she had a plan. They walk along into one of the warehouses where stacks of packages were stored. Comfort raises an eyebrow looking to it all.
"Quite a collection." She mumbles looking around to it all. "Cocaine I imagine?" Iain glances to her then to the packages, they were all wrapped in grey and brown packaging, how could she know what was in it? The male looks to her nodding.
"Yeah it is. Well done paramedic. We're selling it in about five minutes and that's what we want you two for. Cos things are gonna get messy." He looks at them both. Comfort just stares at him she breathes in, she just nods.
"Well you said it yourself a woman hostage is better so let my colleague go. He won't say anything." Comfort speaks looking to the male. He shakes his head.
"Too late, he's here now. Anyway he might have to help you, never know…" He walks up to Comfort holding the gun against her stomach. "You might get hurt yet." He smirks at her. Comfort stares to him not moving but she could feel the gun against her. She licks her lips, if Iain wasn't here she'd be saying something but she didn't want to get him hurt. He stares Comfort down although her gaze doesn't budge, he moves away. He signals to two of the gang to get Iain and Comfort and make them sit down in a corner, whilst they waited.
Seven minutes later a van could be heard entering the building. Looking to one another, Comfort and Iain knew this was where things were going to get interesting. They didn't know whether anyone was there for them, had the message got out to say they were in trouble? Voices begin to be raised echoing around the warehouse. It wasn't going well already by the sounds of it. Comfort and Iain remain sat in their spot waiting.
